Hey, I am taking a Android Tablet and installing it in the car.
Anyone know of a battery app or something else that I can set the device to auto power down (All Radios, Screen) when power is shut off to the charger.
Obviously when I turn the key and power is supplied to the tablet through the charger it will turn on, and with the screen set to never sleep I am set when I get in.
Just looking for a something that will auto shut down when I get out.
Thoughts?
I don't think there is a way for a normal app to do this.
If you are rooted there is a shell commands that can achieve this.
Have you looked in the market or on the net?
If you are rooted and you cant find any solution let me know, i might give writing such an app a try .
Thanks for the Reply Dark3n!
I spent hours yesterday research and downloading Battery and Power Control apps from the Market (free versions). I was able to find MANY apps that will somewhat do what I am looking for but only based on the Battery percentage, see "JuiceDefender".
Researching the paid versions of the app's got me nowhere, not enough documentation for me to risk the money and just download to see if the feature was there. If someones paid version of an App will let me do this please let me know and I will try it.
If you could write an app like this I would certainly donate to you or any group that you wish!!!!
Funny after I hit reply I looked at your signature, I downloaded your app yesterday too! Your type of app was what I was looking for, just need to add the feature.

, you probably mean the power manager.
Nah that app is fine as it is, but i could write a small app to do this, maybe polish it a little later and put it on the market for others.
In my head its already done
I don't have too much spare time at the moment, but i will keep you updated on any progress.
Could you open a console on your device and type as superuser:
"shutdown" or "shutdown now" or
"halt" or "halt now" or
"poweroff" or "poweroff now".
To see if any those commands are supported on your device?
Device HTC Flyer: Running LeeDroid 2.2.0 Kernel 2.3 - 2.6.35.14
"Shutdown now" = Shut the device off (had to boot it)
"Shutdown" = Shut the device off (had to boot it)
"halt" = Nothing
"halt now" = Nothing
"poweroff" = Nothing
"poweroff now" = Nothing
None put the device to sleep.
Do you want the device turned off?
Or in just any state using the least power possible?
In a state that uses the least amount of power possible.
We could put the phone into airplane mode and turn the screen off, and on charger connect we turn airplane mode off, and put the screen on always on?
That sounds great.
Got a prototype almost rdy.
And here it is

Let me know what you think.
Did you try it?
Hey Man sorry was out with girl yesterday. No cell phones allowed .
Just installed it and it works except for the screen. On power off wifi and Bluetooth shut down and airplane mode is enabled (gps stays on) but the screen never sleeps. Now I don't know if this is due to my low battery and the message popping up "please connect a charger". I am charging now and will report back.
On power up airplane mode shuts off and what ever I had enabled before comes back on.
Thanks man... I will let you know once I get her charged up.
Cool .
I don't think GPS stays on, i think its just showing that it is enabled.
Try using a GPS app with airplane mode on.
Regarding the screen staying, is it possible that another app is running in background or a system setting keeps the screen on?
I don't think i can force other apps to release their lock on the screen.
Well, the lack of communication here is a bit discouraging...
I put the app on the market for anyone else looking for the same solution.

Sorry Dark. Thanksgiving week, ton of family in town. I will have a few a hours today.
Even at full charge screen still stays on. I need to go through all the running apps and the one that is keeping it on.
setcpu or voltage control

Write "dumpsys power" in console/shell. It will tell you who or what is keeping a wakelock.
I have the screen set to always on (no time out) when I have it in the car, it stays on fine while listening to music or if it just sitting there doing nothing, but no matter if I get a call or I make a call -- the screen will always turn off after a couple seconds even though the screen is set to always stay on, also as soon as the call ends -- the phone automatically locks and I have to log in / unlock it every time. I know on the old Froyo ROMs it would stay on if I had it set to always on -- didn't matter a call or not, it stayed on like it is supposed to do and it did not automatically lock either. I am on the Weapon 3.0ROM and I am using the same widgetsoid app as the the switching mechanism for the "always on" screen setting in a widget on one of the home screens. I have checked the widgetsoid settings and there is no definition between call settings and normal data for the screen time out. Under settings in the main menu, there is no toggle to enable/disable the proximity sensor either, but since the phone face has nothing close to it when it is mounted in the car (like it would be if you had it up to your ear), I don't think that this is the proper setting to manipulate. I really believe that this is a timing setting, and I am wondering if it is separate setting that can be changed or linked to the normal screen time out settings.
Is there a way to stop the screen from timing out on the Weapon3.0 Rom during phone calls and then automatically locking the phone when the call ends? its getting a bit annoying and any help would be appreciated.
Am I really the only one experienceing this?
I have tried fully wiping the G2x and started from scratch reloading the ROM, apps, settings, etc. and with the Weapon 3.0ROM when the phone is plugged in charging it still automatically shuts the screen off a few seconds into a call, and then locks the phone even though I have the LCD screen setting set to always be on.
For the most part I really like the Weapon ROM, but this auto screen off and locking when I have the G2x plugged in, in the car is annoying as ****, any help to remedy this problem would be appreciated.

I think that is an unwanted "feature" of the 2.3.3 Gingerbread rom. I am not sure of anyway around it without changing to a rom that is not 2.3.3 based.
I'm curious to if anyone knows of an app/widget that will keep the screen on and not lock the system when plugged in?
Basically whenever I try to play a SNES-emu or any game that uses my new Moga BT controller, the system goes into sleep after the 1 min(or whatever time is set), and this is the same if using mini-HDMI output.
I know this can be as easy as increasing the time and such, but i'm sure I will forget to rest it to stock and when I put the tablet in my bag it stays on all the time.
In the Developer Options, there's a setting for the screen to Stay Awake while charging...
Its safe to presume though that when you enable this, and that when you hook the dock up, it will stay awake as well?
I consider our Tablet to be different than a phone, in the sense that when we turn off the screen, we dont need all the background functions still running. Currently I see TF101 deep sleep battery drain caused by many different functions running in the backend...for example the location services api.
I was thinking of creating a Tasker script that turns off as many different things as possible a few minutes after the screen is turned off.....And turns them back on when the device is unlocked.
I didn't want to spend time reinventing the wheel if this has already been done....
Anyone already try this? Results?
thanks.
I decided I was over-thinking it...and went with tasker scripts to
a) Auto Turn on Airplane mode when the screen goes off
b) Auto Turn off Airplane mode when the device is unlocked.
(This involved using the "Secure Settings" plugin app to allow Airplane mode via tasker on 4.2 JB)
So far the results have been good. i don't see those map api's being called during deep sleep.
I use my tablet as an alarm clock and it has always worked perfectly. After the last system update, though, I find that I can't get the sreen to stay on. I have the screen timeout set to 5 minutes, and I cannot override that. I went in to developer settings and set it so the screen stays on when it is plugged in, but that does not work. I tried using the system clock app and using night mode but that also shuts off after 5 minutes, even when plugged in. I tried turning on the screen saver to the clcok setting when it is plugged in but that still does not keep the screen on past 5 minutes.
Anyone have any other ideas for something I could try?
There are a bunch of apps and widgets that make it easy to switch between "normal screen off with delay" or "screen always on". Have you tried one of these ? Since your setting is blocked as you say, I'm not sure if the apps can override it, but you can try.
for instance No screen off (widget)
or Keep screen on (a background app that checks the device's inclination)

I use app Backlight Switch. It has options to show in notifications and has a widget. You can also create an app list that auto-toggles it.
