Pulse Notification Light - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does the pulse Notification light LED light up when the battery is charging?
The only time it blinks for me is when I have an sms message or gmail message and in a white colour.
That's about it, it doesn't light up if I have a missed call or battery charging or full battery.
What exactly should it blink for and is there any other colour other than white?

I believe stock only blinks for like email and texts. If you want more notifications and colors you can try an app called LiteFlow. It was recently updated for KitKat and fixes for the nexus 5.

The stock pulse notification seems to be a bit buggy.
It doesn't work all the time for sms?

Since mine is either in a pocket or in a protective pouch on the go for maximum protection, it's not very fucntional for me & I don't need it to blink and/or beep overnight while sitting on the charger - when the (MOD) battery percentage is 100%, it's ready. Solution - I turned it off along with the notification sound, great for extending battery life while on standby ... every little bit help, ya know.

Mine lights up green upon fully charged, and also blinks white for notifications.

Mine doesn't light up when fully charged. I wish it did.

Mine doesn't always do it either - I've just noticed it a few times.

Light Flow Lite will allow you to set notifications for battery and charging states.

Mines a hit or miss with notifications. It doesn't light up when fully charged.

Mine is not working. I'm hoping for a software update soon. There seems to be a system process that will reset the notification light on the Nexus 5 (i.e. sometimes it works, and sometimes I see one quick flash and then nothing).
I am currently using 3rd party apps to work around:
I use Handcent and AquaMail, which have their own notification controls. It works fine. LightFlow works fine but the permissions are crazy. I don't need a LED app reading my SMS content.
If you just need a battery light, try "Charging LED" app. It works too.

Alternative for bLED: NoLED

First thing I want to say is that I didn't create this app.
But for everyone who finds the bLED idea kind of handy: NoLED does it too, but in another way.
Here the link to the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730692
I confirm that this application works very well on the GALAXY NOTE.
Thank you to the developer.
BubbleBuzz is better
Thanks. NoLed is an amazing app

Screen based "LED notification" are not that healthy even with the SAMOLED, the screen is still lit and voltage is going through the screen and not only that but you also degrade both green and red OLEDs as they stay on even when a black picture is displayed as backed up by this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21560940&postcount=103
But if you dont care of any of those then its pretty ok to use at the expense of battery life.
An amazing app indeed. If only it didnt eat my battery. Since removing it I went from 1 day to 2 days on a batterycharge.
Not giving noled all the credit tho, also switched to LA4 a few days ago.
Nice application works very well on the NOTE.
I am a Noled user for 2 Years now, Its the best! ű
I tried iLED and it munched the battery in hours.
After installing Better Battery Stats and researching wakelocks, I understood that screen based LED notification apps will cause the phone to constantly remain in a state that drains the battery, not just the LED draining it.
I believe bLED operates differently and so doesn't drain the battery as much.

You see the major problem with NoLED is in the Android framework. a) Android doesn't allow the CPU to deep-sleep if the screen is on regardless of its content. b) The black pixels are actually switched on. Even though I believe that our screen is capable of switching partial pixels on, the Android API simply doesn't give access to this feature.

Yeah, not only that, but NoLED wasn't working very well for me anyway. It kept coming on even when the screen wasn't sleeping (e.g. over running satnav...).
I am hoping that somebody will eventually add support for BLN to the kernel! I've seen BLN on Nexus S and it looks ideal.

[Q] how much battery does bln use

I wanted to use it and wondered how much battery was used if the LEDs are left on for an hour or 2
Also does blinking use more battery than static? I wanted to have LEDs on for one second then off for five
I wanted to use this because I loved the notification light on my atrix 2 that I had before skyrocket
I'm pretty sure they use little to no battery. I haven't really done any real tests, but i have never noticed any battery drain at all while using bln.

Yes very little battery, you will not notice any difference trust me. Its a very helpful feature, and I recommend the bln control pro app, you can set the notification to blink and also put time limits on how long it can stay on.

The capacitive buttons use very little power in light, it's literally no difference having them on, then having them off.
I may have to give it another try then.
I tried BLN once. I got an email sometime during the night and the BLN were on all night. I woke up the next AM and half my battery was used up.
Could have just been a fluke, something else, I dunno. But I uninstalled BLN after that.

You can set it for certain times of the day, so it won't be active from say 7pm to 6am.

According to Siyah Kernel via ExTweaks the LED backlights behind the Galaxy S2 capacitive buttons are rated at 3000mV.
When you have an actual led notification, it has its own capacitor to regulate the power used to conserve battery, it charges, then discharges, causing the blinking, saving battery. Though the capacitive buttons aren't set up this way, they will save battery if you use blink.

According to the descriptions under BLN Control app in the Google Play Store:
"Please notice (sic) that blinking consumes more energy than static backlight!"

Full charge sound not occuring after update

Full change sound not occuring after update
After I upgraded to ICS (4.0.4) I don't hear a notification that my battery is full after charging and it even says 100%. It was present in gingerbread so why would they disable it?
Really? I'm almost never in awake when my phone is charging, so even on GB I rarely heard it. Crazy to think they took it out. But, I'm glad they added the battery percentage feature. I'll take that over a battery full notification any day.

I'm glad too but it would be nice to know exactly when it's finished so that way I'm not constantly checking status when doing other things(at work, etc. lol)
1. Plug phone in for charging.
2. Check hours later by turning screen on and reading percentage on lock screen.
3.??????
4. Profit.

The battery percentage was built into ics. So att didn't really have anything to do it.

[Q] Can I adjust the notification LED to be green only when it's fully charged?

In the stock rom when you start charging your phone it'll emitt green light when the battery reaches 90%, that's what I'd like to change and only make the LED change to green when the battery is fully charged.
In CM11 it's automatic...

Use LightFlow from market, it does the job flawlessly, but you need to configure all the other notifications again cause it takes control of them, I use it from a long time and I have the full version too.

Then there's one more reason why I hate that my phone has a locked bootloader.

That sounds like a lot of work, but I think I'll do it on some slow day.
Thanks for your answers.

Notification display turn on(lollipop)?

Receiving a notification doesn't turn on the display, is there some sort of setting I have to enable?
Anyone?
The nexus 5 doesn't have a AMOLED screen, so Ambient Display is not supported. Catalcysm Rom added it also to the Nexus 5, but I wouldn't use that, since it worsens your battery live.
You need to download a app to make this possible, like Screen Notifications (from Luke Korth) or Ac Display (Artem Chepurnoy)
Yeah thanks.
I guess I'm on an older version of cataclysm.
Got home, and learned proper name of it. Didn't know it was called ambient display. Cheers...
