Anyone knows how to root an Asus MEMO Pad 8 ? I've tried every generic tools that I could find and none were able to push the root files to the system partition.
The SoC is an Rockchip RK3188.
Edit : Look at post #8 in this thread for a link to KingoApp Root Tool which works on Asus Memo Pad 8. Thank to chairsz for finding and trying the root for us.

Yes, ADB devices shows the Pad 8 as being "online". When the script tries to move and create files, the access is denied.

if your tabby can power on and you can acess your files, back them up and just hard reset which should be in settings in the backup restore area. you would have to reroot once you power back on though I think.

Yes, entry level or not interesting... And we have no idea if the bootloader is locked. Which might be a pain if we want a custom recovery.
Asus support seems unlikely either. They might just release some more entry level products with a higher Android version than upgrade the current Memo Pad lineup...

I had the same problem with my tablet. I was on 4.1 and updated to 4.2 the bootloader was still unlocked but root was gone when 4.2 loaded. The developer options turns off when you update the OS so you have to go back into the settings, hit about tablet, then go down to the build number and tap it 7 (seven) times. Developer options will then become available. Go into them and make sure that the options you need for rooting are enabled, i.e. USB debugging. Then run motochopper and root will be available again.
This info is posted elsewhere on the forum but as this topic is not closed I figured it would be good to make sure it was posted here too.

Same issue here. Had it rooted under 4.1.2 updated to 4.2.1 and now the chopper can't root it. Pushes the SU app, but failed when it try to root.

I'll just bump this to say I have the same issue. EVERY root method I've tried does not work. Motochopper, trying to flash a custom recovery. Nothing....
See this post. Assuming you are bootloader unlocked and on 4.2.1 this will work. It worked on my TF300T with an unlocked bootloader and 4.2.1 firmware. I even ran it *before* I got TWRP back on the device. BTW, make sure you use TWRP 2.5.0.0. 2.6.x.x doesn't recognize the boot partition on the 4.2 firmware. This is documented elsewhere in the Transformer forums here on XDA.
What about the newer method mentioned in the later parts of the motochopper thread?

I gave it a shot, to no avail. My bootloader is unlocked. I'm not sure what's going on here. When I opened up the program it says no device connected, though my Transformer is connected. Asus Sync also says it's not connected. But when I check my computer drives, "Asus Transformer Pad TF300T shows up... but it's not listed in my usb connections. I'm able to transfer files to and from the tablet. Man, I've never had such a tough time rooting an Android device.

Unknown sources has no effect.
Then you need to update your drivers. The easiest ones to use are the ones in the google sdk. I never had any luck with asus ones. The set I eventually ended up with work really well are attached below.

Great, thanks for posting that link! I'll give it a try when I'm back in town and post an update.
I'm also having trouble rooting, same build and 4.2.1, and the main problem is that SuperSU won't install properly, and manually moving the file won't work due to the fact that I don't have permission...
Anyone find a good solution yet?
I've rooted and installed custom roms on all my HTC phones, never had this much hassle getting it to work.
EDIT: Just got TWRP recovery installed, and SuperSU, using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187982
I followed the "installing TWRP-recovery" part a bit down, and that's it.
Okay i recently picked up a Hisense Sero 7 LT and i know there is a rooting method for the Pro version of the sero 7 but i haven't seen any work done with the LT model so i'm going to be working on a method to root it but i need a little help from the people with a Pro model, so if you have a Sero 7 Pro and would like to help that would be great. What i need is for the rooted Pro users to do is to upload the init.rc file in the root of the device as on the LT model / is read-only and the init.rc file isn't set to read in its permissions, next i need you to run 'ls -lR /data' in a root terminal so i can see if any files are vulnerable to the symbolic link root method. Thank you and i hope we can root this device.

yeah that method wont work with executing 'su' from /data/local/tmp because /data is mounted as nosuid which sucks..
I know one-clicks aren't the best way...
...but this seemed kind of interesting:
http www dot srsroot dot com (sorry, too new to post links )
They actually list the E270BSA in their "Tested models" page - but then they also say they have an average 48% success in rooting phones :/ From another forum I saw that their program tries 5 different root exploits.
The program is free - can anyone with a Sero 7 Lite give it a go and see what it says/does?
Hey guys - Klown80 hooked me up. SRSRoot didn't work - don't bother with it - but the new "end-to-end" Android vulnerability exploiter does (if your version of Android doesn't have both bugs patched already.)
On your device, get the app "SRS AppScanner", run it, and see if it says either of the two bugs are still "Vulnerable."
If either of them still is, go to http cydiaimpactor dot com and get the Impactor (which runs on your PC). Extract it (no install needed) and try the default exploit "# drop SuperSU su to /system/xbin/su". If it works, presto! You've got a working su binary and are rooted! Install e.g. SuperSU afterwards to give root access to other programs that need it. It's worked for me on two tablets so far (Sero 7 Pro and Sero 7 Lite) and I'm interested to try it on others!
(Oh, you'll need to have your device good to go for adb already too, for this to work. Seems like a pretty obvious thing to expect on XDA )

So I have rooted the sero 7 lt. This was achieved using cydia impactor - GOOGLE IT.
(see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2340693 for instructions)
Its loading the custom recovery I can't figure out. Something to do with signature verification. The Cut and dry recovery included (hold volume down and power from power off till logo appears, then release power only. At android belly open screen hold power and press volume up to access menu.) Won't matter can't toggle signature verification. Nothing will install. SuperSU and BusyBox installed from within. There is half the battle... time to win the war.

And that is the stock recovery you are talking about, all android devices have it. It is not possible to turn off signature verification within the stock recovery, hence the need for a custom recovery. The only thing you can flash within the stock recovery are OFFICIALLY signed zips made by your device manufacturer.

Hi,
is ist possible to root the new android asus memo pad 10 fhd with intel z2560 soc (x86) and android 4.2.2?
There are no recovery images avaliable yet.Even source code.
But id like to get root for it.
Does somone know how ?
So please report it!
There are so many german people how like to root it.
Please help
Big thanks
Bye
I searched for several hours and tried numerous different rootkits, but none of them worked.
There seems to be someone providing a method for Memo Pad 7 HD, but I didn't want to try it out of fear that it would semi-brick my device (particularly the bootloader).
I love the device though. Only problem is that the screen is too reflective.
My friend,
have a look at my post inside german forum!
I rooted the memo pad successfully
http://www.android-hilfe.de/asus-me...5825-howto-root-fuer-das-memo-pad-10-fhd.html
In some days i will translate it to english
Nice flash.
Hi there. I'd like to ask how is the translation going? I tried to read the whole procedure in German with Google translator, and couldn't get anything clear enough to try to do it...
Oh, and no pressure meant!
Thank you very much in advance!!
1.Download the two links in the post (system.img.gz and superuser.apk)
Put system.img.gz and superuser.apk in the same folder as adb.exe.
2. Put the tablet into bootloader mode (Power+Vol Up)
3. Run these commands in command prompt with administrator priviledges:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase system
fastboot flash system system.img.gz
5. Reboot and again run in command prompt
adb install Superuser.apk

Hi, my friend
Anyone can provide more detail of the root process?
Many thanks!!!!!
Thank you very much, Matt, for the info. I think I'd better wait a little bit longer to gain root access, not really needing root right now..
Alright, I have to confess I am not sure I could get it rooted with that method, still a newbie! xD. I will wait for a easier one-click root.
Thank you very much though!

I just rooted using the commands above, only difference is i used the latest system_4_6_2_root.img file since i've upgraded my pad to 4.6.2.
Im root again!! Thanks guys
O. T. Theoretically this device can even run windows 8, can't it?
Back in thread. I think it's even easier than what described above:
1) Make sure that your device is updated with the last firmware 4.6.2, check the OTA updates on your tablet.
2) If you don't have it already installed, download and install fastboot here.
3) Download and install Intel USB drivers from here.
4) Download the rooted system image from here and move in the directory where you have fastboot installed (see point 2).
5) Reboot you tablet in download mode by pressing Power + vol up.
6) Launch a command window and type fastboot flash system system_4_6_2_root.img.gz
Voila, your device is rooted, you just need to download from the market the SuperSU app.
I didn't lose any setting / application.
All the information is taken from the german forum. Thanks to them.

I don't know if it is that easy. I think the bootloader should somehow support the Windows boot, even if we had the Windows 8 installation media.
These just came out in the US and mine should be here tomorrow. Excited to get her rooted! Hope we get a thread/some development!
Got my memo pad fhd 10! I personally think it's pretty amazing. Stock launcher is lacking but with nova is a LOT better. Still need to root as I would like to freeze some of the junk. It's very snappy and the screen looks great. Extremely happy with the purchase but would love to see some devs jump on it.
Also, just did some browser hopping. Boat browser is complete butter on this. Glassy smooth and quick, much better than chrome.
i need usb driver for memopad 10 fhd

system img gz cannot be reached
Unfortunately the link you mention to get system[dot]img[dot]gz is not valid anymore.
can you tell me where I can find it, or if any system[dot]img[dot]gz file can fit for asus fhd 10, android version 4.2.2?
Thanks in advance

OTA Updater misery
Hello Linus Plus
I run Android 4.2.2
I am trying to follow your process. Phases 2,3,4,5 are ok
but the first is not:
when I go to OTA update I get:
"Unsupported ROM
The ROM developer has not enabled support for the OTA
updater. ..."
What should I do?
Thanks for your help
Thanks
Jacques

Hi,
i will create a new one.
Because 4.7 is just release
bye
If I use Pro SuperSu I update without losing root?
My mistake, it works
I finally understood that 4.6.2 refers to the build number and not to the Android version.
Therefore I could go through all of the process and the device is rooted now.
thanks a lot, your process is very easy

I was foolish enough to upgrade from rooted 4.6.2 to 4.7.0 and i keep getting crashes.. the worst crash is the keyboards.. none of them work.. cant do anything with my memopad at all.. anyone know if it's possible to re-flash the cracked 4.6.2 image?? On asus site they say that the firmware u download from there cant be used to downgrade... really hope thats wrong since the latest firmware on their site is 4.6.2 and i've got 4.7.0 which i got through OTA

I can most likely help but I will need you to install antutu benchmark or another application that will tell you the hardware in phone. If it is a MT65xx processor then I know how you can root and Uninstall Chinese apps.
Hope this helps!

Looking at that info, it almost looks like you have a real Galaxy S4, you just have one with Chinese firmware on it. Does this info match your devices info:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2249916
Can you power off the phone and then press and hold Vol Down + Home + Power? Does this take you to a warning screen saying you are about to enter download mode? If so then you do indeed have the real deal, but I think it is a clone.
I see some info that looks funny though, it says your OS is built from the 4.0.3 SDK and you have an ICS kernel in there even though it says you are on 4.2.2, It also only shows you having 500MB of internal storage compared to the 9GB on my S4 if you cant get phone into download mode then I would suggest trying to run Motochopper or Root By Restore to get rooted.

Are you not able to go into Settings and change languages? I have bought a few clone phones directly from china and they usually came with english on them but when I reset them they would revert back to chinese and I would have to go into settings and change back to english. I can help guide you through the menus if your menu is in chinese.
As far as roms go, you would most likely either have to find someone with same device that ported a rom over or port it yourself if you know how. Only other option is if there is a forum that supports your specific device.
FYI - to help make looking for a rom a bit easier you have a MT6575 device

Uninstall SuperSU and superuser then try running Motochopper again. If it still don't work, try the chinese root program I linked above. If it fails to let you update su binary then it most likely failed to root your device. If the chinese root program don't work either I still know of another option since you have a MT6575 processor

Here are a couple of links to root guides:
Search on google for Asus Zenfone 5 Root (if you havent already)
Try: asuszenfoneblog. com link
Otherwise, keep on searching if it doesn't work, the instructions in the link are quite confusing but if read properly, will potentially root your device
Hopefully they'll work for you!
Enjoy @dboypipes
I found a 1 click method but when I used root checker it said I didn't have root m I tried it twice

Ok, some OneClick methods dont do what they say, but i recommend trying the one on the asuszenfoneblog .com website, its a bit complicated but its the best option in my opinion!
Message me on XDA if you need any more help, im finished for the night now (UK Time) so, if you need any help, it wont be until the morning @ryan012
Happy to help I hope we can find a rooting solution for this device!
So I tried that zenfone root APK. On that aeus blog but when I checked it with root checker it had no root acsess. The directions seemed simple enough I don't think I did anything wrong but who knows
