Hi all, I post here, because I found something very strange on my Nexus 5.
I bought it two weeks ago. Last week I found 4 dead pixels on the screen, so I planned to call Google.
But yesterday I wanted to watch a film with "MX Player" and when the software start, all dead pixels disappear ! Does anyone know what is happening and how solve this problem ? This will avoid me having to contact Google...
Thank you
Most likely they were " stuck pixels " not dead

Yes, but when I leave "MX Player", they appear again..
I can see them in recovery too.

Replace the lcd. It's the only fix for a dead pixel.

send it in for warranty and get a new one. That's the easiest to fix it .
Does one dead pixel really bother you? Who's to say the replacement wont also have a dead pixel or two?
Few apps on the market to try, one called dead pixel detect. Another one that scrambles the screen to try to unstick the pixel, but I forget the name...something like jd pixel or something. Worth a shot.
You can try an app called JScreenFix. Run it for at least 10 minutes and stop anytime afterwards. I found two pixels that changed color and ran this program, but it didn't help me. I think the pixels were fine, but it might have been the touch sensors above it that refract the color of the pixels.
Good luck with finding a solution.

I was told by HTC Customer support that if you encounter what appears to be a dead pixel, do a few tests to check it out.
First they told me to take a " black picture " by covering the camera up and snapping a shot. They said to examing the pixel closely and see if it flickers and to see exactly what color it was.
HTC states that if it is white or gray then it is a dead pixel or " Unresponsive Pixel "
HTC states that if it flickers or is any color other then gray or white, then to take the battery out and let the phone set for about 10 - 15 minutes. Turn it back on and reinspect the effected pixel. If that doesn't work, they will replace with HTC Warranty Exchange and send you a New " not refurb " phone.
I got my new phone in 3 days after making the phone call.
thanks ill send it out

There is some code to check broken pixels on SLCD screen when i buying NS?
Thx
You can install a dead pixel test app, but you still got to see thr faulty pixels yourself.

Hi, I have a problem with the touch screen of the Nexus: a few days ago I realized that a central band of the screen, more or less half an inch high, no longer responds to touch ... To understand, I attach a picture made with 'Position pointer ' from 'Developer options'.
I wonder if anyone has ever had experiences like this, and what do you advise me to do,namely if trying to change the screen, or maybe other most basic solutions (I've read on the web of people who recommend 'squeeze' the screen). Unfortunately the warranty has expired three months ago ...
Thanks in advance
Exact same problem with my nexus, strange:screwy:

Bump, anyone?

Had the exact same problem with my old android phone, it was after a great fall... I assume that it is a hardware problem and you have to replace your touchscreen to fix it...
But its not a big deal as you dont use that part most of the time and also "auto-rotate" is always present to help you... And if still you cant touch some things then use VNC viewer...

I do not know if it can be somehow help .. The page is in Italian, use google translate .. It is said to 'squeeze' the screen, many people seem to have solved .. Do you say that is our case?
Thanks

I haven't seen anything else posted, but I wanted to see is anyone is having the same issue as I am.
Basically, I'm getting what I think are row's of pixels flickering in the area of the screen that are gray.
Here is a quick vid trying to capture it. I can't post videos because I have less than 10 post, you are going to have to trust me for now...
I've also used the dead pixel finder app...everything looks good until I change over to a gray screen, if I stare at it, I can see the flicker...
I first noticed it when I flash Franco r10 (which is what I was on in the video). When I flash back to stock kernel or Bricked, it's much better. But now that I know it is there, I can still see it.
Anyone else having this issue? is there a fix or should I just send it back?
If it matters... LG-D820 White, 32gb
I'm guessing I'm alone with this issue and that it is a hardware problem.

I haven't noticed anything on mine, but I haven't flashed anything yet. Did you notice the flicker before you flashed the first time?
No I didn't notice anything until I flashed r10. But now that I'm looking for it, I can see it on stock and bricked ever so slightly.
I could live with it on the stock colors, but if this is hardware, I worry that it is going to get worse and not better over time.

I have the same issue and saw it as soon as I flashed franco kernel. Noticed that if you set brightness to 100% it will slowly stabilize but will still come back when lowing brightness. I called for an RMA, but cannot reproduce it as obviously on stock, so i'm also lost as to what it could be.
What did you end up doing?
On mine, I could see it on Stock colors, just not as bad... I returned mine on rma....
I recommend getting the app called display tester.
I don't have enough post for a proper link.
https:// play.google.com /store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev. displaytester
Look for a bad pixel and go under the banding section for reason for rma.
My new phone didn't have any of the flicker /banding that my old phone did.
Good luck..

Sorry to bring back an old thread but I just noticed this not too long ago and didn't want to open a new thread. I noticed it while I was on stock first and thought flashing something might fix it. I've had mine since the beginning of November. Is the best option just to RMA it?

can you use a SlimPort cable or chromecast to mirror the screen to a TV and see if the flicker still happens?
So you'll know if the problem is in GPU or screen?!
Hi all. I have trouble with my white nexus5. The issue is all is white screen. Try to reboot in fastboot. Fastboot also show white screen. Any opinion about this? Should i send this unit for warranty and get the replacement? Fyi, my nexus all stock no root what so ever.

Definitely call Google and get a warranty replacement. That is a hardware issue.

I also got that problem once when I tried to lock and unlock the screen but it was due to gravity box, the problem with gravity box was that whenver I swiched to expanded mode on and then lock the screen....the screen would go like that but the new update to gravity box fixed it.
My friend's Nexus 5 also have this problem today. It running 100% stock no root and no unlock-bootloader. Could you guys tell me more about this problem ? Is it a hardware issue?
Well,
On PC that issue (white screen + random colors bands/points) means that you GPU is dead. Probably the same thing here. Unless you know how to change the GPU (it's a joke obsiouly), you'll have to RMA the phone.
hello guys ,, i am facing the same issue,, after installing the app" gravity screen" the screen started flickering,,
due to which i decided to uninstall the app which inturn created this issue.
now the LG ppl are asking me to pay 9k,, please let me know is there a way to fix this,, dont wanna spend that much money,
Thnaks in advance
