Well I have a good friend who is not exactly a genius, he thought if he deleted the efs folder, it would let him use the old web2go on his Galaxy 4G... Well now his imei is all 00000's and I can not get anything...phone calls, web...nothing, regardless what I flash it to.....
Is the phone a brick for now or is there a way I can save it??? Im more than willing to buy a beer if anyone can help me fix this....
Thanks in advance
Update: Ok well ive found that If i leave my sim card in for 10 minutes or so it WILL pick up a signal... The internet will work...BUT very slowly, like 2G slow....I can make calls, but when the other person answers they can hear me, but I cant hear them.
Either way, its not a solution to the problem, is there even a possibility to get the imei back without the original folder??
Have you tried flasing a new ROM?

+1 on this. Should set the factory defaults.
Where exactly was this efs folder located?
EDIT
Just looked into this.
/efs is mounted on a whole different partition. You might've just gotten yourself a very expensive paperweight since some of the files contained in that partition are specific to your device (IMEI #'s etc). =|
Check this for reference:

This happen to me and honestly best way you may have a backup of it on your sd card..if you do put it back to where it belongs and reboot..no one will privide you with that folder since it contains private data..thata the one folder YOU NEVER DELETE
I didnt delete it,its just came up like that one day with garbage characters..i dont know how I got it like that cause that usually happens when you try to unlock phone..maybe a combination of things for me.just everyone backup that folder everywher and anywhere lol..its like the heart of yoyr phone lol.

odin a stock rom but change around a few of the files to actually cause a software brick use efs clear checked
once u turn on the phone and see that u get the phone to pc flash the right way with the files in the proper locatons make sure efs clear is checked and use the pitt file flash do factory rset bla bla bla bla
turn phne off let it sit for about 5 mins turn back on it should take awhile to load
it should rebuild your efs folder off the backup the device retains if that doesnt work go take it back

I didn't do anything with the IMEI except back it up using the terminal emulator and the "reboot nvbackup" command. Not even sure if it did anything or not. How do you reprovision the phone? What does that even [claim to] do? A google search shows a lot of people complaining about this. I hope someone comes along and helps too.

If you reprovision, it will wipe all your data and such. Idk if you wanna try it. I only tried it because someone suggested it, but it was pointless. So, if you were gonna try that, you would want to nandroid backup first. The way to reprovision if you're interested is dial *2767*3855# that'll do the trick for you. I hope someone comes along to help as well. After a while some fix usually comes around. Just gotta be patient sometimes

Interesting. I wonder what the reprovisioning actually does. I didn't flash CWM yet since I'm running the stock bootloader, and it is locked. I heard that unlocking the bootloader can cause trouble if an OTA update changes things on it.

About data/signal issue, that's not your IMEI. It more than likely is your sim card. I had to get 2 replacements from Verizon due to a weak signal. Another simple thing to try is to be sure data roaming is ON in the settings menu, and restart. That is known to work. Rooting prob did not cause this to happen, the S3 has signal issues to begin with. Do not start running scripts to attempt to fix without going through the verizon fixes first. Stay on stock rom, hide your root apps and bring in to get sim card. They won't check for root.
Plan B is to call *611 and speak to someone, they can push a signal code through to fix. Don't say your rooted!

Oh but we shall see what happens when I change towers. To compare, and diagnose this issue, how is your phone setup. Mine is as follows:
Purchased at: Small business authorized reseller
Contract: On contract
Purchase date: 9/5/12 (opened a new account, not adding a line)
OS/ROM: Stock 4.0.4
Rooted: Yes
Bootloader: Locked (had it unlocked temporarily to see if I could do it, but I relocked it to diagnose the data issue)
Recovery: CWM
ICS Encryption: Not turned on (I don't think I can use it now that I have CWM installed anyway)
Apps that run at boot: Call Recorder by Skvalex
Root apps installed: SuperUser (duh), Rom Manager, CallRecorder, Terminal Emulator (used it to execute "reboot nvbackup" as a supposed IMEI backup method)

So far all I've done is "reboot nvbackup" to supposedly backup my IMEI, but I have no idea if it did anything. I'll double check data roaming, but I don't want to rack up a roaming bill. Also I don't have to worry about my store finding out if I root. The sales guy helped me root it before I even paid for it.
The guy I dealt with helped with root questions for me too at actually vzw store... Funny! Sim should do the trick. And yes, that script you ran backed your IMEI correctly, so it's not that. Data roaming is to see if it improves issue, if it does, your having network issues that are not phone related. There is no reason to keep that option on unless your lost in the woods and need data!

OK, great...I hope you don't think I was being patronizing... My intent was more of a friendly FYI and I hope that's how it was received by you
Now that I have a little more time I can say that if it were your own phone you were doing this on, I'd say go ahead and try it. There are many threads here in the various nexus forums where people have said they've done it without any problem with their own devices (after a RMA for example).
If it doesn't work and causes problems you can always restore the factory images if need be.
However, since it's a friend's phone you want to restore the nandroid on to it's a little different.
Are you trying to just get the same apps and app data installed on your friends phone as you have on yours? Or is it something more than that?

I think I some how messed up the radio settings I was reading on this post

what I'm wondering is if this is the case if there is any way to fix it or did I make a paper weight
You can never make a paperweight of this phone) Might take time but it's fixable. Going to read the link. Don't worry
BTW do a hard factory reset. I lost my SD card, camera etc. Tried all the ADB commands and a full reset solved it. Means loosing everything but I think it will do it

Read it. When my camera went and the ADB commands went I dug a deeper and deeper hole. I changed permissions moved files. I did everything you should not. I was convinced I'd a paperweight. When you flash a rom there is an underlying system that runs the rom. A lot of crucial stuff is stored there. Thats why I say do a full reset. I'd made a real mess. I did the reset not expecting anything. I'd messed it up so much but it made it like new. I was so darn happy! Do it and get back. Gonna help in anyway I can because I know exactly how you are feeling

What custom recovery u got? If you have TWR go into it. Press advanced wipe. It will ask you to type YES. Do it.
Or in phone menu go to Backup & Reset. It's there. Good luck. Sorry for the delays but I'm in uk and my fiancée is in USA. Saturday we video Skype all day but I'll keep an eye on you

TWRP and cm touch but right now it's stock. I looked up how to do the hard reset but I'm not home right now. I will try as soon as I'm home. Thanks

Just had a serious argument with the gf. It's 1.15 am here. I text her and in couple of hours she's gonna phone so we can sleep with voip open and a bud in. God she snores like a heffa) Oh another thing if factory reset won't do it, and I expect it to. Flash a radio file. Any will work. A lot say that the kitkat are still the best but I like the new one

Well, I did the factory reset and flashed a new radio still no good. I found out that LG will still warranty the phone if it's all stock. So I think that's what I'm going to do. Thanks for all the help.
