Help please, factory reset fails - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I made a factory reset of my device, but when I finish I have no signal and camera and gallery are not working. Can you guys help me? Please

Are you I stock ROM or a custom Rom? If on stock I'd recommend flashing the stock image from Google with fastboot. If your on a custom Rom try re flashing it though recovery.

hi. first of all, this does not belong in the development section. next time, please post your questions in the general or the q&a section.
could you please elaborate on the steps that you took? did you wipe your device in recovery? if so, what exactly did you wipe (data, system, cache, etc.). the more information that you provide, the better chance that someone will be able to help you.

I was on a custom rom but I wanted to return back to stock. I rebooted into bootloader and I reflash the stock rom following these steps:
fastboot flash bootloader ...
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio ...
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash system ...
fastboot flash userdata ...
fastboot flash boot
fastboot flash recovery ...
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot reboot

i'm assuming that you followed the steps mentioned in this guide. maybe give it another go and ensure that all the steps are followed accurately.
fyi, it's a good habit to backup your stock rom when using a new phone, just in case you want/need to return to it. also, as gavinmazey mentioned, next time that you find yourself running a custom rom and want to return to stock, it's much easier to flash the stock rom through recovery.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus freezes after Google logo

I have successfully rooted my Verizon Nexus version 4.04 build IMM76K and tried to flash two different ROM’s one is "Vicious-TORO-JellyBean-V3-signed" and the other is "Team Liquid Vicious-Toro V3-JellyBean Fully 100% Functional Deodex". On both it seemed to install fine, no error messages. Then at reboot it booted past the Google logo to the ROM logo and never passed it. I waited for a minimum of 20 minutes until I pulled the Battery and flashed back to stock. Please help.
Did flashing back to stock solve the problem, is your device ok?
Before you flash a custom ROM, always try wiping the cache and wiping the dalvich cache. You then wipe data and do a factory reset. After that you THEN install the ROM, that might've caused the problem. Maybe, I am not sure.
Which clockworkmod did you use to try flashing the ROMs, please give us more detail!
I actually did exactly as you said. Wiped, factory reset, wipe cache and then dalvich. Pushed the ROM to the phone and then installed it.I have been useing Gnex Toolkit v1.7
And did it work or what?
Wiping user data/Factory reset is important after installing the Custom ROM.
There is a good way to fix all this, make sure you backup EVERYTHING, and when I say EVERYTHING I mean EVERYTHING (Photos, Videos, EVERYTHING).
USE FASTBOOT, I have mentioned this heaps of times, I have because it just WORKS. I bricked my device before, and I just used fastboot. Understand 2 things if you're going to use it...
1. It DELETES EVERYTHING
2. You need to have your STOCK ROM in fastboot format
If you're willing to use fastboot and have the proper stock files here's how to do it (From Nexus S post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445635):
I QUOTE: "Put all six fastboot images in one folder, unlock your bootloader, perform the fastboot flashes, then lock the bootloader:
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem lock
"
Cheers
Oh by the way I am not sure if the oem lock and unlock bit applies to you, check a relative guide to Galaxy Nexus please , this was an example

Hi, I have unrooted Nexus somehow its not booting up no just shoing google Logo. I can only enter in dast boot mode and bootloader is locked hence can not load a new rom to it. Tried to unlock the loaded but unable to do so. Used most of the tools in the forumn but sill no success. Its still not boots into android
Any help will be appritiated.
Can you enter recovery? Like stock recovery or clockworkmod. You should be able to.
If you have stock recovery navigate to it using bootloader, then to active the menu press both the power button and the volume keys ( sorry I don't know which one). Wipe data and factory reset. Select it. BUT THIS WILL CLEAR ALL DATA.
If you have clockworkmod again boot into it like above and select wipe data factory reset. This will not delete you data.
If you have TWRP you can for the same as clockworkmod. But go to menu "wipe" and select wipe data factory reset.
Hope this helps,
UselessSniper001
Have you tried Wug's Nexus Toolkit? There's an option in the program for this type of thing. It'll flash full stock on your phone but at least it'll be working again, and from there you can flash CWM and root the phone as usual.
It's in the Nexus S Android Development forum, sorry I can't post links yet since I don't have the 10 posts needs.

I am 101% sure that you are missing something while unlocking either the drivers or the fastboot files.
Otherwise nothing can stop you from unlocking. Finally when you unlock, flash the factory image via fastboot and then proceed again towards rooting and customs. :good:
can u please tell me what method you are using to unlock boot loader?
follow these steps:
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem lock

fastboot erase cache
just flash the recovery image then
Wipe data/factory data reset"
and for last lock the bootloader?

I would do it all just to make sure you are back to complete stock since you mentioned you rooted the device also.
Follow the instructions in the first post of this thread and since you plan to RMA the phone be sure to check the tamper flag and follow the steps outlined to reset it if necessary... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47156064

Code:
. If the tamper flag value is "true", then you'll have to reset it. The following steps will reset this flag, and lock your bootloader.
•So, first, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2239421 (Thanks @osm0sis for the wonderful script)
Under "Flashable Zips", you will find the Nexus BootUnlocker script. Download it.
•Put the zip on your internal storage.
•Download the latest TWRP recovery image for the Nexus 5 from here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hammerhead. Rename it to TWRP.img.
Now boot it. You do this by booting your phone in fastboot, and typing the following command:
Code:
fastboot boot path/to/TWRP.img
TWRP recovery should boot.
•Flash the zip in TWRP, then reboot.
Now your bootloader should be locked, and your tamper flag should show "false".
So i have to do this before i flash the stock recovery, since it needs TWRP, am i right?
And else it says that this will lock the bootloader, will i be able to execute the previous commands(flashing recovery and stuff) with a locked bootloader?

No, flash everything back to stock then deal with the tamper flag reset.
Once everything is back to stock but the bootloader is still unlocked, boot into the recovery...
fastboot boot nameofrecovery.img
Then flash the tamper flag script.

Sorry man but i'm not getting something here.
If i flash everything first, even the recovery will be stock, so i have to flash twrp once again to flash the tamper flag script. So i end up with twrp recovery and the tamper flag reset, while it should be stock recovery and tamper flag reset.
What i'm i missing here?
You can boot a custom recovery without flashing it. Like a temporary installation

Thinking the same thing. But.. I can admit getting in a hurry and flashing the wrong image!
I made sure that I was using the right image and it still wont go past the Google screen. Any other ideas?
edit: okay the phone can't even write the recovery to the phone through fastboot! Any other thoughts?

Long press the power button force it to reboot. As soon as the screen goes black hold down the volume down button. That will boot you into the bootloader, from there you can get to recovery. Factory reset, wipe cache.
You flashed stock recovery?
If you have stock recovery go to the bootloader like I said earlier. Choose recovery. Then you will see android laying down. Press volume up and power button at the same time. Do a factory reset.

If you flashed the whole image inclusing userdata.img it should boot usualy, never xperienced it did not personaly. So besides a wipe have no idea bro, you might try to reflash the rom again. Are you using a Toolkit?

I did this with the flashh-all.bat provided by the official image. I can't even do that anymore because it just gets stuck when writing the bootloader. Totally out of ideas right now. Is there any way I can reformat the partition through fastboot? Would that help?

Try this:
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
After that flash the rom again with flash.all.batt
maybe flash each part individually (not using flashall)

How to flash a factory image. Erasing everything in fastboot should have done the trick. Erase everything then do method 2. You have to reboot the bootloader after flashing the bootloader and again after flashing the radio. One year to RMA. .
---------- Post added at 02:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:57 AM ----------
These are the commands I would use. The name of the images for the bootloader and radio are for 4.4.2.
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-hammerhead-hhz11k.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio-hammerhead-m8974a-1.0.25.0.23.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot format cache
fastboot reboot
Thanks all for the help! Will try it tomorrow. Hopefully it works

I'd go one better and look to do a COMPLETE reflash - userdata and all! I'd also rename bootloader-hammerhead-hhz11k.img to bootloader.img and radio-hammerhead-m8974a-1.0.25.0.23.img to radio.img as it means there's less to get wrong! SO, to recap:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot format cache
I'd then boot into the stock recovery and perform a factory reset to make sure everything is in order and then reboot. I've done this exact method a number of times on my Nexus 5 and it works every time

I usually do the same thing too but I left the names as a hint to verify that he had the correct images.
I almost never flash userdata and recovery unless I'm selling a device. I've also never rebooted the bootloader between every image Except after the bootloader and radio images but I agree that your method is covering all the bases!

As I hardly have any data to backup bar some custom ring tones I always reflash the userdata partition to be thorough. As for the reboots, I've just done it from habit, again just to be thorough. If it still doesn't work after that then it's goosed!
Try using the backup bootloader. Press and hold both volume buttons with the power button. That will take you into the backup bootloader.
Thanks to everyone for helping but I could not even get past writing the bootloader to the phone. I honestly think the flash storage and failed so will be RMAing. Hopefully they will accept it...

Nothing can be written on internal storage (insert sd card error on camera, etc)

I posted this on reddit...but didn't get much help...i hope the geniuses at xda can help me
As the title says, the camera app (any camera app) won't work because as you start any of them, it asks to insert the sd card, but this is a 2013 Nexus 5...so it doesn't have an sd card.
I've done a fair amount of research and the only thing that seems to be mentioned is factory reset. I've done that...both through the settings and twrp. The phone has a stock marshmallow rom.
I tried to download any other file and it won't let me download anything becauase the "sd card" is not available. So it's as if the internal sd card isn't mounted? how do I fix this? I don't have a computer nearby to do anything with adb...any help would be GREATLY appreciated...
The amount of storage according to the settings is correct (3gb used of 12 gb..16gb nexus 5)...all app permissions are correct. I've reflashed two different stock firmwares with the exact same result.

Thanks for the help one way or another.. Hehe

I assume the phone has an unlocked bootloader since you were able to flash stock ROMs.
