Hi,
I installed Slim ROm 4.3 v2 and everything worked fine.
After a few days the camera doesn't work.
Always the same message: can't connect to camera
I tried to reboot CWM deleting cache, dalvick and fix permission.
I tried to delete the cache of the app from the settings
I only find that the way should be to restore the stock rom..
any other suggestion?
thanks!
(sorry any mistake with english)

There are two ways:
Open zip file of any custom ROM running 4.3.1
*Go to System/app and copy its Camera app and paste in the your root directory (ie: system/app and paste there)
*Use ROOT Explorer to paste and change its permission to -rw--r--r--
2nd Method:
*Flash any Custom ROM running 4.3.1
*Install titanium backup.
*Backup its Camera app.
*Now, complete wipe system/cache and dalvik cache
*Flash Slimbean Rom zip and its SlimGapps zip
*Install titanium backup
*Now restore Camera app which you were backed up earlier
Done.

Reflash the rom,
wipe cache & wipe dalvic cache in recovery - no user data will be lost

Hello there, my fellow CM9 users. Is it just me or the root doesn't work on CM9??
Here's the problem:
I have tried to delete an APK on the /system/app partition, but when I tried to delete an APK, Root Explorer says "Delete Failed". I have no idea why this happens ?? :crying:
I have also tried updating the Superuser Binary by using the Superuser app itself, but still no root. I had also checked if root is enabled by going to Settings>Developer Options>Root Access and it's Apps
I can't post a logcat now, since I reverted back to a stock rom. I use my phone all the time..
Try reflashing.. Also try not to update super user.. If so.. once u update clear app data and use..

Yeah, this is also another problem!
When I open Root Explorer, then by going to /system, then there's no RO/RW button!!
Another problem: When I am going to the Preferences of Root Explorer, then after pressing the back button, Root Explorer will FC!

Camera is part of the Gallery apk. If you don't have a camera icon in your app drawer, try reflashing ROM and Gapps. If still not there, you might have to wipe and reflash (hopefully you wiped between CM9 and CM10).
ok i just flashed the newest CM10 rom
( wiped first ) ...
then flashed the included boot.img
and i still dont have the camera app
are u sure this rom even has a camera app ??
EDIT:
come to think of it
i might have flashed cm10 over cm9 without wiping ... hmm

I'm not sure how you managed that twice. When you say you wiped did you do a factory reset also through recovery? Factory reset wipe cache then wipe the dalvik cache then install the ROM. As fas as I know all cm10 builds for our device have a camera. Also if your taking pictures with a camera from the market what do you view them in since you don't have a gallery either?

running cm10
wiped - cache - davilik etc (through recovery)

taking pics with a separate app can be viewed in gallery
still same issue no default camera
This is not a ROM problem. You need to do a full wipe between ROMs, not just cache.

cm10 has a camera app. has to be a bad download or bad flash.

Sorry dude, we're all tapped out. Pretty sure you're the only one experiencing this, so you're going to have to find a solution on your own. In the meantime, try some Market camera apps...many are better than stock anyways. You can also find the MIUI app in the themes section which is pretty good.

I have few doubts regarding installation and operating CM9. Currently, I'm on JaggyROM 3.
Q1.
- Copy GApps and CM9 ZIPs to your SDCard
Click to collapse
I need 20120429.zip for CM9 #8, right?
Q2.
- Flash CM9 zip from SDCard
- Flash GApps zip from SDCard
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET (otherwise your device will be stuck at boot)
Click to collapse
Is this actual order of steps? Cause afaik, we have to first do the reset/wipe & then apply update. And in which order should I apply the CM9 & GApps? or any order is OK?
Q3.
- Don't restore data using Titanium Backup! they might cause FC's
- Restoring Apps + Data might cause problems and is not recommended, avoid it if possible!
Click to collapse
This is THE most important question. How should I restore data?
Will it be OK if I installed ONLY APPS first with help of an installer and then used Titanium to restore data?
Can't wait to install this wonderful ROM.
Thanks.
I used this steps without a problem.
1. Download and copy rom to sdcard
2. Boot/Reboot into CWM
3. Backup your existing ROM (just in case)
4. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
5. Goto mounts/storage, mount cache, data, system
6. Format boot, cache, data, system, advanced menu dalvik
7. Install zip from sdcard, choose zip from sdcard, choose "cm-9-20121102-UNOFFICIAL-pico.zip"
8. Wait for it to install, when finished reboot, wait until on homescreen, leave to settle for afew minutes then reboot again
9. Flash gapp
Those are instructions for installing a clean stock cyanogen rom.
-from liverpool-fan
and this is the CM9#8 filename cm-9-20121004-UNOFFICIAL-pico.zip

Hi guys,
I am trying to install the Asus PadFone clock apk, which requires being in system apps.
I pushed it to system/apps and set permissions to rw/r/r and rebooted- nothing happened
I tried wiping cache and dalvik cache but still nothing.
I used root explorer to push it
Any suggestions?
EDIT:
Never mind, I solved the problem. It turns out the APKs I was pushing needed to be de-odexed before I could use them.

Are you running Stock? If you are then you won't be able to install a system app like that. Happened to me, and trust me it really sucks. Only other real solution I found was to flash a custom ROM for example CM 10. You could also try getting a flashable zip file for the apk and try installing it that way. That could work.
Let me know how it all works out for you,

Should I try to make it into a flashable zip?
For some reason the Camera app on my galaxy 2 10.1 keeps throwing an error when I try to launch it.
It says can't connect to camera and I just get to close the APP.
I tried rebooting the tablet - it didn't help. Also tried clearing the cache for the APP and it didn't make a difference.
Running SlimKat rom 4.4.4.
Can someone shed some light for me on how to fix this issue?

Sometimes (this worked on a different ROM for the 7 inch version, but its worth trying) installing Google camera to system/app and removing stick camera works (always nandroid backup first so if something goes wrong you dont have to reflash.)

Clean flash Kitkat, can't recall if the camera worked or not when I first flashed it but I'm pretty sure it did. So it just randomly stopped.
Where does one obtain Google Camera? Right in the playstore?
And can I just uninstall the stock Camera app using the Dev tools of the rom?

Yes, google camera is in the play store. It actually probably does not need to be installed as a system app. Idk what tools are in SlimKat ATM but I've always just gone into es file explorer as root or used root explorer, mounted / and /system as R/W and deleted the camera apk from /system/app. Then just wipe cache and Dalvik in recovery and reboot. This may or may not fix the problem, but it worked for me. Again, make a backup first.

Don't install it with package installer. If you installed it from the Play Store, cut the apk from /data/app and move it to /system/app and change the permissions to the same as the other apps in folder. Google camera shouldn't matter though.

google camera is not compatible with our tabs....even if you do get it installed its pretty useless IMO. Grab your ROM zip and go into it and find your camera.apk. unzip it to your sd card and then go back in and long press it and reinstall it. It may (did for me) work that way. If not try another (different) ROM. Grab zip file go in and find the camera apk under apps, unzip and then reinstall. NOTE: for me, I had to go into Titanium and completely remove the camera app that i had and then do the above procedure. I trial and errored it and it worked for me. Finally
Edit: and yes, please nandroid backup b4 trying anything
