Weird issue with root. - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a weird issue with my N5. I root the phone using WugFresh toolkit and after it's rooted I start having call problems. While in stock not rooted I will call the phone with my house phone and it works perfect, it rings, I leave voicemails and they show up immediately. No problems.
Once I rooted with WugFresh's toolkit and the phone is booted up I start having call problems. I will call it once again from my house phone and nothing, on my end it just rings until the voicemail prompt. Sometimes it rings once then it goes to voicemail, but the phone won't make a sound.
Has anyone had that issue?

Don't use tool kits. You're much better off in the long run learning how to use Adb/fastboot. Now you have a problem that's difficult to tell if it's related to the tool kit or not. Root alone shouldn't cause that problem

Try rooting manually

[Q] can't hear other side in conversation.

hey,
I bought the nexus s (9023) about two months ago, stock rom, not rooted, and for the last week or two, it started making problems.
about 1-5 times a day, i can't here the other side at all. as if it's on mute. not even the ringing tone, before I'm answered. the only thing that solves it, is to restart the phone.
in other forums i've read that it's a mess, and that i should use my warranty. the problem is i bought the phone abroad, and shipping it should take about 3 weeks.
is it a common issue?
can i solve it alone, mabye by switching to a non-stock rom?
i'll be very happy to read some good news here, but bad news is better than non.
thanks a lot,
tal
p.s, iv'e downloaded system info to monitor the temp, and it doesn't happen necessarily when the phone is hot.
I don't know... I am rooted, I have used 5 different roms since purchasing my phone.
Stock
CM 7
Savaged Zen
Oxygen
Soju
I have also used several kernels
CM Stock
Netarchy
Matrix
James Bond
Trinity
So far, on all roms and kernels I have experienced the same problem. You make a call and it connects, looking at the screen the time counter is going but there is no sound; it will sit there and hold the call for 30-55 seconds then ends call. A quick redial and bam it works. Some people have reported that they answered and there was nothing. I don't know, it's really obnoxious.
The other, more annoying problem is that randomly on calls throughout the day the phone will just reboot itself. Right in the middle of a call. AHHHH like 3-5 times daily!
help, anyone?
i'm stuck with this, and a bit clueless.
Well, somehow I discovered that the problem is related to the bluetooth. as long as it's turned of, nothing will happen, on the other hand, when I use my earphone (most of my conversations happen while driving) i need to restart my phone every 1-2 calls
any ideas?
just u can't hear other one while calling u?
thanks.
so it was in the beginning, but now neither of us can hear the other. no matter who made the call.
and again, only when BT is working.

hehee its problem ,
am really disappointing with nexus s , but i dont have enough money to buy HTC product again.
any solution?
Hi, did anybody have any solution to this problem?
I live this problem on almost half calls of specific numbers.
I am desparate...
Try setting discoverable timeout to never? Have you tried a different Bluetooth device?

I have this problem too. This seem to happen on some Kangs and nightly, but not all of them. I can't hear when someone calls me. But when I call someone, I can hear them. I always have Bluetooth off (do not use them).
I live the same problem. No problem for outgoing calls. For incoming calls, I cannot hear caller's voice but they can hear me. It is not for all numbers.
I am on t-mobile and nexus s (cynagenmod nightlies). For all incoming calls from tmobile numbers no problem. But for almost all other carriers, it is just random.
I feel like I started having this problem after updating from CM 7.0.2 to 7.1 RC and thereafter(but not very sure on this).
If anybody still following this topic, I would suggest you to contact samsung if you still have warranty. On the second attempt they sent me a brand new phone with box and accessories.

Or, you might give it a try with a different radio for your model:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
If you go this road, make sure you backup your EFS folder.
What i would do is if it is still in warranty just give it back to them and they'll probably give you a new phone. Since you said it takes 3 weeks to ship, just wait for it and use another phone if possible. Its not like your life is going to end. I think the problem is, not every phone is the same so there will be problems especielly when flashing a rom. For example unstable roms might not allow you to use this app or have serious effects on your phone.
Best to give it back to samsung and get a replacement.

Major problem need an expert

I am using a galaxy note i717. I have issues with it. I have rooted this phone using odin. I have tried everything I know to make it work correctly. The problems are just horrible. The worst one is the phone call thing. Someone calls me, my phone starts ringing and completely locks up, I can't even see who it was that called. My phone will ring forever till I turn it off, completely locked up only option is power cycle. Worst part is it does not even show it as a missed call so I have no clue who called. Another thing is the phone needs to be reset at least a few times a day, as it is just laggy and slow I waited 10 seconds today for my call log to show up after I pressed the button. There are a few others but those are extremely anoying. My phone works fine till I load certain apps then it becomes bogged down. Defender of texel and Group Me are 2 apps that cause this problem. I have tried many things to fix it. I have tried many jelly bean custom roms. All of them have the same problem. I also did the samsung upgrade trick. The one where you unroot and put the phone to stock ics then have samsung upgrade it to jb then root it to a jb custom rom. I have 2 ideas of how to fix it. I can get ics custom roms to work flawlessly, I got a goldie rom already downloaded and ready to install. The other idea might come from an expert. I think it is some setting that is default turned on that needs turned off. I really don't know, I don't want to revert back to ics I like new technology and getting the most out of my devices. I am using black jelly right now, it is a good rom, it was just the last one I tried. The phone has no wings but was about to fly across the room so I gave up before I broke it. I need an expert that knows the tricks to make this phone work correctly. Any help would be appreciated.

[Q] HELP! - No Call Audio on Incoming Calls

Has anyone else had this happen or heard of it happening?
Out of the blue today all incoming calls have no audio. I cannot hear the other end and they cannot hear me. If I call out it works fine.
I am running a stock rooted NCB ROM and have been for a few weeks with no issues. I have already tried rebooting, restoring a backup, and I tried installing the R.O.T.D. ROM but this issue persists.
Any ideas?
My wifes s5 had the same issue. I could hear her but she could not hear me. She also lost speakerphone. She had to take it back and get it replaced. Luckily it was within 3 days of purchasing it so it was no hassle.
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
I was afraid of that because after all I did root it so my understanding is that the warranty is void...
Just to clarify... when I make an outgoing call everything works fine. The problem only happens on incoming calls. I would think this is a software issue since the hardware clearly works.
Tou can try a factory reset. Thats what they made her do at the sprint store before they would replace it. I think her issue was slightly different but the same. Does your speaker phone work? Try a data reset and see if that fixes it. If not odin it back to stock and hope they dont look at it too hard. Be quick, I think you only have a few days before you have too use the warranty.

[Q] No Signal/Emergency Service Only after ODINing stock rom

Hi, guys.
I recently had my gps abruptly go out and did a bunch of stuff to my phone in an attempt to rectify it.
to include:
running "gps sgtatus" tools and recalibrating/downloading agps data
tightening all the screws on the back of the phone
inserting a piece of paper below the contact plate for the gps antenna
restoring back to a stock 4.1.2 rom via odin just to access the stupid samsung service mode and doing a nv rebuild
none of these worked. i've basically accepted that my phone will never navigate me anywhere ever again.
HOWEVER, now my signal is going crazy.
Ever since i did the odin flash, I've had:
dropped coverage to "no signal" or "emergency calls only" every five minutes or so with no consistency
virtually unusable sms, with a single push maybe once every 10 minutes
anytime i do attempt to flash something fresh, a signal outage of at least five minutes ocurrs during the initial configuration of the rom
what i've attempted to do to rectify this so far is:
reinstall just about every nandroid restore package i've made since before the odin flash
install every rom i have on my phone, anywhere from JB to KK and touchwiz to aosp
install every baseband i could find, to include MB1, MF1, and ML1 (via recovery .zips)
what the heck can i do?
everything is so unreliable that i basically have a glorified wifi-only device about 80% of the time.
The phone stats:
SCHI535
VRBMF1 modem (had ML1 at one point via recovery .zip, but reverted back)
ParanoidAndroid 4.4 BETA1
Sounds like to me you just a got a bad egg. How long have you had the phone? Honestly with all you have done so far I would just Odin stock, reset flash counter, lock the bootloader and get a replacement from VZW. This sounds like a hardware failure.

i've had it since last april. like i said, i'm okay with the gps not working for now. if i could just get the thing reliable for the next week, that would be great.
i highly doubt multiple hardware components would fail so close to one another, especially with me seeing the side effects immediately after flashing via odin.
how about this:
i'm trying to eliminate all variables, so i'll go as far back to stock as possible.
would going all the way back to 4.0.4 VRALG1 with a locked bootloader remove any software issues?

With all due respect, if you go back to stock and the problem Is not fixed its a hardware problem. Simple as that. And no going back to 4.0.4 will not help. Also seeing these problems arise right after flashing stock proves its not a software problem because if it was it would be fixed by flashing stock.

well, i was able to discover that my imei somehow got wiped, because i never noticed that i could never actually make calls and had the symptoms of this thread.
i followed the instructions in this post, and now i don't even have 4g anymore. 100% tablet mode.
*digs self further into hole*
disregard. i had to check a bunch of boxes in the mobile network options to re-enable data for some reason. basic call functionality still inoperable.

do you have a backup of your IMEI? Even if you restored your IMEI you would still have GPS issues I would think.

i did not have/make a backup, but i think i got the IMEI straightened out.
and i'm not focused on the gps issues currently. i just need to make/receive calls.
i would like to reiterate that, at this time, my phone does the following:
has a fully functioning LTE connection any time that i would ordinarily have one
receives sms and mms with absolutely no delay
rarely if ever sends sms/mms at all
makes emergency (911) calls with no issue
will dial out for ordinary calls, but never actually connects or begins ringing
this makes me think it couldn't be hardware failure if the antenna still works for functions like sms reception and outgoing emergency calls.
is there anything else i could try?

What is your PRL an SV #

Idk What to do

No calls will ring through what so ever. I get a voice mail icon, but I do not receive the phone call. i can text, make phone calls, and browse net perfect. I update prl and profiles calls will come through for about 10-20 mins (test calls) after that it starts again. I contacted sprint they said no towers are down that I would have to take my phone to a store. Well I rooted and put a custom rom on for hotspot. It worked perfect and just randomly started happening 2 weeks ago. I doubt a store will touch my phone because I rooted. I even have rejected calls set to off. I don't know what to do. I pay way to much a month for my phone to not be able to use it. Oh I even tried the ##726 w.e the numbers were to hands free activate my phone again. Didn't work. Any help is much appreciated!
Why not Odin back to stock and take it in?
wanted to fix myself ot save me all that nonsense lol
I understand . Sometimes using Odin and rerooting fixes things too. Might want to try that first.
