Hello.
I am new to the forums and i would like to ask a question.
Lets say we have a phone with the stock rom/kernel isntalled. If i root the stock rom do i flash a new insecure kernel or do i just exploit the stock kernel and take root privileges?
Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone...
Is there a flashable "stock" 3.1 kernel package that can be saved on the SD card and flashed with CWM recovery in the event that the current overclocking kernel is having issues? I just wondered if this was possible...
I have nandroid backups to revert to, but if a kernel problem develops, it would be quicker to just flash the stock version...
Thanks
Jeff

No. The only kernels that support root are the custom kernels available in the development section. To use the stock kernel you have to unroot.

So maybe I should rephrase my question. Is there a kernel that is part of the 3.1 rooted ROM(s) that are floating around in the development forum? (closer to stock than the Tiamat rooted ROM)?
Actually - this is sort of moot - as long as you have a recent Nandroid backup, I can always revert back to that...
Thanks

You can take a 3.0.1 stock boot.img from Moto's site, patch it with the 3.1 update zip, and then that'll be a stock 3.1 kernel boot.img. I think this was done somewhere here, actually, but I can't remember the thread details.

Just for future reference, there is a search function on these forums. For example, I typed 'custom kernel stock rom' into it and a whole bunch of useful information appeared.
Having said that...
Is your phone s-off/rooted? You could flash a custom kernel provided that the build numbers are compatible. For example, Bricked kernel is stated to work with the majority of roms since it creates a boot.img from the one on the phone. Ultimately I would recommend extreme care and I would personally be flashing a stock-look custom rom if you still wanted the stock experience with the custom kernel.
Hello everyone. Is there a kernel compatible with miui v5? I want the swipe2wake option because official one does not have it.
If there is, I flash it via recovery or?
And, is there a high chance of bricking my DS when flashing a custom kernel?
Thanks

I think that actually is THERE, but the link is dead and dont know what features it includes. And flashing kernel is actually safe, maybe some bootloops or bugs if somethings mess up.
Hi This might be a question that has been answered already or no. I've been browsing through the site and ready on ROM's and stuff. I just wanted to ask how to identify if a Custom rom is stable already and if there is a way to know without trying the rom first. I am scared of rooting my phone because I am afraid that I might brick my phone and if so is there different ways or just a standard way to do like S-off/S-On and flashing a rom.
Phone: HTC Sensation
ROM: Stock ICS Rom 4.0.3

To identify the custom rom you need to flash it yourself and then judge it .But most of the JB rom like viperS/revelation especially Sense 5 is the latest and stable one ..
Also Before rooting and flashing custom rom you need to first Unlock bootloader and then flash recovery after that rooting and flashing roms..
No need to S-OFF , you will find it difficult (Wire Trick).
A great guide can be found HERE just skip the HBoot-S-OFF part and follow other instruction ..

Sorry for having such a lot of questions. Any particular Rom you would suggest. I just use basic stuff like gmail, txtplus app, and some games. A black based design would be perfect. Thanks in advance for the suggestion.
hello
what is the best way to do wipe+stock of the marshmallow+original kernel+root?
i'm now with original stock 4.4.4+original kernel+twrp+root.
thank you
The recommended method is flashing the rom with the file "flash-all.bat" or you can use Nexus root toolkit which do for you all the job. Because you are in kitkat, you must wipe your device because their are users who says they have a lot of bugs. After you flash the rom you can use nexus root toolkit to flash root and costum recovery.
For original kernel you need to find kernel same as the original but can rooted. That because in android marshmallow you need a coustm kernel for root, Google blocked the way of root device with their kernel.
Hope I helped
so for the result of 6+root+original kernel I need to find good kernel without changes except root?
I need an good kernel that will not drein my battery...you know of something good?
