[Q] ROM's and Rooting - HTC Sensation

Hi This might be a question that has been answered already or no. I've been browsing through the site and ready on ROM's and stuff. I just wanted to ask how to identify if a Custom rom is stable already and if there is a way to know without trying the rom first. I am scared of rooting my phone because I am afraid that I might brick my phone and if so is there different ways or just a standard way to do like S-off/S-On and flashing a rom.
Phone: HTC Sensation
ROM: Stock ICS Rom 4.0.3

To identify the custom rom you need to flash it yourself and then judge it .But most of the JB rom like viperS/revelation especially Sense 5 is the latest and stable one ..
Also Before rooting and flashing custom rom you need to first Unlock bootloader and then flash recovery after that rooting and flashing roms..
No need to S-OFF , you will find it difficult (Wire Trick).
A great guide can be found HERE just skip the HBoot-S-OFF part and follow other instruction ..

Thanks for the Guide. Just a question though. Does this guide apply on all ROM's like those made by VIPER and those CM10 thingy.

Yes the guide is one time process. After that just download any Rom (VIPER or CM10 ) and then flash through recovery ..

Sorry for having such a lot of questions. Any particular Rom you would suggest. I just use basic stuff like gmail, txtplus app, and some games. A black based design would be perfect. Thanks in advance for the suggestion.

You need to do a lot of reading and research. I'm sure there are guides in your device's section which could help you. Is your device rooted? Do you have a custom recovery installed?

Follow the instructions to flash a custom recovery (there must be a guide in your device's section). That's the only way to flash this ROM.

The hboot Version is a bit weird, does anyone know? Normally you download the latest version of the ROM.
And if you flash a new ROM, first wipe all data, and then flash the new ROM.

Hi,
You are on GB firmware.
You need to upgrade your firmware ,BEFORE you can install ICS or JB ROMS.
Look HERE
Read the thread very carefully.
Follow it to the letter.
Substitute whatever ROM you want in the process.
Although ARHD is a good place to start.

Hi,
If you have data you want to save, use Titanium Backup before you start anything.
The thread I linked you, gets you to install 4EXT recovery.
When you have upgraded to ICS/JB firmware, then,go into recovery/wipe/format all partitions except sd card.
This will wipe your phone clean, ready to install the new ROM.
You can then install the ROM of your choice.
The thread suggests ARHD ROM.
This is a good place to start.

[Q] rooting desire s

hi
i am new
i want to root my desire s.. i am using the official ics rom.. my hboot version is 2.x..
please help..!!
This guide should help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100
I would suggest making S-OFF it will be easier later. Look around forum for this device, there are tutorials. You will need to:
1.unlock
2.downgrade HBOOT
3.S-OFF
4.root
3. and 4. can be done at revolutionary.io website. You need the 2.HBOOT downgrade because this method doesnt work above 2.xx
there are a lot of tutorials. be careful and good luck
how to downgrade my device?

There are more and less stable roms, depending on how you treat the setup. Be careful because now you rooted your phone there are lots of interesting options that are not to be touched if you dont know what they are for.
I'd like to suggest PACman Rom. It's great. Be sure to go to bottom of first post and install NIGHTLY since it has some bug fixes and more..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672537
also don't expect anything to work perfect, it takes days to set it up. Anyway, stock roms also have flaws, and yet people use them. Read and google more if you want to make your phone better.
good luck

[Q] HTC DESIRE WITH HBOOT 0.98.2000 s-off , no custom roms working other than cm 7.1

I have my htc Desire s with HBOOT 2.00.0002 unlocked bootloader form HTCDEV with S-OFF , i flashed CWM recovery 5.0 , i flashed cm 7.1 stable version and it worked.
I dint want to get Stuck in gingerbread so i downloaded some other roms from XDA like JEllY FIRE , UnoffiCial CM 10.2 , Carbon ROm , PAc MAN ROM e.tc. ... i flashed cwm recovery version 5 , then wiped Data , Cache , and dalvik cache and Flashed the above roms , but no luck , the phone got stuck on HTC logo ...
So i thought of downgrading the Hboot Version .. and i used the tutorial from a site which told me to use the given attachment to downgrade hboot ,
now i have Hboot version 0.98.2000 (PG****) (as i am seeing) , and s-off , but still when i tried flashing unofficial cm 10.2 the phone got stuck on htc logo .
Please help i want to use Jelly bean ... i need a detailed tutorial or video link to get a good jelly bean rom working on my phone ....
Please Help soon :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

I have hitachi panel ... please reply soon .. how can i flash a custom rom without having that broghtness always 100% error .. .those links in that thread weere dead :crying:
I'm sorry, but no jb or kit-kat rom will work properly on your phone. Even if you get them to boot with one of those kernels mentioned in the thread, the brightness will not be adjustable. So unless you can live with that, you're stuck with cm7 or sense roms
Check this. You have hitachi panel and you need to flash MDDI kernel.Check Flinny site like this http://andromadus.flinny.org/?q=cm10_1 for JB but be careful some links don't work so find it yourself. In basic you can get brightness working on your phone.
Check all post with MDDI and find that kind of rom.
Sorry for your problem.

Can i get a link to the MIDI kernel which i can flash so that i can use flinny's 10.1 rom ???? the link given in the above post was dead
please provide a link to a rom which i can flash and get the stock ICS htc rom ... my hboot version is 7.**** .... which i upgraded today ... i am not pro i just want something which would solve the problem just by flashing
The simplest thing would be to flash some custom rom with HTC Sense, there are a few ics ones in the development section (with sense 3.6, like the stock ics, or with the newer sense 4/4.1)

Does this work just if i flash it ??????? can i get the link please ????????
Yes, as your phone is s-off now, just flash the rom in recovery (after wiping data, cache and Dalvik cache).
I really don't want to get into a discussion about which rom is "best", so I recommend you look in the development section for roms that say "sense 3.6" or "sense 4" or similar, and have quite recent comments in the threads; read at least the last few pages of the threads, and the op, to see if there are any known issues etc., then try one, if you don't like it, or want a change, try another one.

its too confusing ... i am seeing that the sense ICS roms are having some WIFI and Front CAM not working issues :crying: please give me a link of a rom that's working without any such issues and is ICS ... Sense Version doesn't matter to me unless it's 3.0 + .... please give a link of a rom which you think will be most helpful to me right
THANKS AHEAD !!! :good:
Ok, I would use this rom as a starting point, but remember you can always make a nandroid backup, try a new rom, and return to the previous ROM by restoring the backup:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679125
Recently, some people seem to be reporting issues with sms, but considering how long this rom has been there and how many people have used it, I think these issues are only affecting very few users
Is there a jb rom .... I know they don't support Hitachi panel but I heard that some midi kernerls are there which if I flash these roms will work

Sensation XE Stock laggy, whats the right thing to do?

Hi, I have the following problem - My friend got an old HTC Sensation XE, with stock ROM, not rooted, bootloader locked and so on. She got it from friend because her phone died and she needed some fair replacement. She have never done anything like rooting, flashing ROMs, nothing like that. But the problem is that the phone has become laggy, I am very supprised because its on stock rom and when I used to use my Sensation, when it still was a flagship and well after One X was available, it it was okay, snappy and everything as you all know it was a HTC's flagship phone and HTC would not push anything that would make it laggy, I did factory reset and such, but that did not realy help. I in other hand have done fairy bit of rooting, flashing ROMs, custom kernels and such, so I think that flashing some custom ROM would help this problem, and as I have moved from my Sensation and anything related to that I am out of the loop and have no idea what is the best rom to use or maybe a kernel. So I am asking you what to do or flash, I need something stable and fast, stable because phone will be used by person who does not quite understand tech and fast - to resolve the problem of not able to use it comfortably.
