Photos App Gone - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys, so I RMA'd my first Nexus 5 and just received the replacement. This one is a 311k (not sure if it matters, just mentioning it because there were at least one thread about it). So I noticed that this new phone actually didn't have the standalone photo app that my first nexus 5 had. It's actually replaced my G+ Photos. Not sure if anyone else noticed that. Personally I don't really use G+ so I preferred the photos app. I actually liked the editing features a little more than the stock gallery app. Anyway, what do you guys think about this?

When you say Photos do you mean Gallery? Because the app is called gallery on Nexus devices.

You need to update Google plus because they're integrated together. If you disabled Google plus enable it because the photos app cones with Google plus. I figured this out when I disabled mine and the app disappeared but when I enabled it the photos app cane back with it.

I meant the photos app. But the previous post figured it out haha. Thanks a lot. The G+ photos app changes to Photos when you update it.

Yes. And now that they have moved the gallery apk out of the camera apk, I think the Google+ Photos app will be the exclusive app at some point in the future. The gallery app is still using the picasa api (which is being killed off) and we have not seen hardly any changes to it in over a year. My guess is it will be retired in the next major update early next year.

nice box xD
How did you get it?
I have lg gw910, but it's a gift from my friend from microsoft
Looks like he got it from the Windows Phone 8 launch event. They gave away a bunch of those phones in that box there.
Hey can you open the HTC clock app that now appears by default on the Start screen? Is it a new version of the HTC Hub app? Anything new or different? Does the time on the Start screen update in real-time?
How much do you paid? Or was ist for free? If yes then why?
thx in advance

You're correct on where I got it. The HTC clock app is new, but the features are pretty much the same as they've always been. So far that's the only "new" app in the HTC section of the market.
Edit: Actually, there is one new feature that ties in with WP8 and it allows you to use the HTC app on your lock screen. So you have a clock, and weather on your lockscreen, as well as a new background.

That's kinda disappointing if its the only app. I know its got Beats pre-installed, but what about stuff like HTC's panorama camera functionality? Flashlight still there and working? Attentive phone?

Hmmm, couldn't find the panorama function. Flashlight is there and pre-installed as well as attentive phone. I must say the wide angle front lense is pretty nice. Can't wait for the new Skype to be released.
Also, a feature that I hadn't seen or heard about before, is that in the camera you can install "lenses" so you can switch between using the "bing" lenses and using it to scan bar codes and such, to switching to apps such as "camwow". All within the native camera app

Performance is great, as always with most Windows Phone devices. It has a 1.5 dual core cpu for a OS that only really needs 1 core so it flys along. Build quality is great, the unibody and slim curved body feels great in the hand. Reception wise, I have full bars where I live so I can't say. And sense? There is no sense.... this is not Android....

well not knowing of any reliable places to download an mp3 file, I just did a quick search of mp3 ringtones, from what I could tell, no you can't. It seemed to just open it and play.

Nope, and nope. I doubt you'll ever see options to keep the wifi on in during with any stock OS to be honest though.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you can. Maybe through Skydrive? Not sure though. Interesting side note, is that on WP7 there was Adobe pdf reader, and now its Microsoft's own pdf reader (the same can be found on Win8)
Wow! You're right! I just got finished installing Windows 8. I hadn't even opened a PDF yet so I checked it out. Yup. The default reader is completely different, as are the PDF file icons. I found a couple of traits I don't like in the new reader, but, just as I have been able to circumnavigate most Windows 8 issues by returning to the trusty old desktop, in looking at the tool bar in the top of the folder containing the PDF, there was an arrow beside the word "Open". This allowed me to open the PDF with the old reader, which worked as per normal on my network printer.
Back to the subject. It is a total screw-up that we STILL can not send a PDF with a WP8. This was a well known shortcoming in WP7. When are they gonna' fix this?
Aaaaaaargggh!

Someone told me that pdf files now show up in the Office hub so you can email them from there.
Here's a video that shows how: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=FE1xh1VF8v4#t=150s
Also, one additional question: If you forward an email message, can you edit the original email text? Thanks.
Can you possibly test the speed and reliability of push notifications? One thing Microsoft does not talk about is how or even if push notifications have improved. Test Facebook, Twitter, something. See how quickly notifications arrive, or if they even arrive at all.

Does it work for you on the N5? I use it to, and it doesn't work on my N5.
Odd, seems to work fine for me. Had no contact images before installing. And all contacts after syncing.
Have you signed into Facebook with it and run a full sync?

cheers, worked perfectly did you guys tick the birthday option?
also what size do you set the pictures, they don't look so sharp with max supported selected (default)
I have used HaxSync on my Galaxy Nexus for a while and it works flawlessly. Have yet to get my N5 to test it on that...

I like it. Very "KitKat" looking. I don't take many pictures nor do I care much about photography (obviously or I wouldn't have a Motorola.) The photos look better and brighter. Likely the UI or placebo I know. Regardless I like.

If you don't like it you can ways just use the "last" view on the list and it's basically identical to the old gallery.

much more Kit Kat themed...which is nice, except for the fact that Motorola decided not to theme the overall OS the same way on the Droid line...

Terrible font camera quality when using Snapchat

Hello,
I recently bought a google pixel 2 XL. Coming from the previous model, google pixel XL.
I never had any kind of photo quality issues.
But on the Google Pixel 2 XL the front facing camera provides extremely bad quality photos.
Before the photo is actually taken it looks decent, but when the photo has been made it just blurs the photo, you can clearly see pixels on the photo and everything gets greyish.
Im running android 8.1
I enabled camera hal hdr+ in developer options.
Also tried a previous version of snapchat but that didnt provide me any difference.
Anyone else experiencing this and knows how to fix this?
Could anyone confirm having this issue too? doesnt matter if this is for Snapchat or any other kind of app with picture taking features.
Google Support isnt taking me seriously cuz noone else has reported this issue before.
Pretty poor on the Pixel 2. Instagram looks fine.

Im wondering if this is the issue on the app or the phone it self or android...
Because im having this kind of quality on more apps. Google Support always end up leading me to the app developers
