Android Kit Kat - General Topics

Hi friends, I'm really sad about android Kit Kat ?. My Nexus 4, 7, and 10 have all been updated... However they do not have the features Google advertised with the Nexus 5. Examples would be the ability to say "Ok Google" from the homescreen to get to google now. The new immersion mode while playing games, and finally the new transparent soft keys. Why is this the case? It is kind of frustrating that Google wouldn't allow these devices the same features when they are obviously capable... I dont want to have to upgrade from nexus 4 to 5 just yet. Any solutions? Any reasons why google decides this should be the way things go.
Thank You,
Harry

Google Edition Phones?

Hi guys!
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Edition phone because I was excited to mod it. I'm new to modding, so I've been despretly searching this forum for help about custom ROMs, but there doesn't seem to be any.
Why isn't there a device subforum for the google edition phones?
When will the google edition phones be supported by cyanogenmod, paranoid, etc.?
I love this device, it runs fast and I haven't had a single app crash or freeze, which is something that killed my experience on my previous phone, the Galaxy S 2 (Hercules).
Thank you for your time!
You paid $600 just to put another stock based ROM on top of it?

Should I buy TAB2?

I've been mostly HTC fanboy except disappointment with my HTC Sensation which is quite bad (I also have HTC Flyer and HTC Wildfire and I'm happy with both). Now I'm looking to buy some new 10 inch tablet, would you recommend P5110 as a good choice? Are they not faulty like my HTC sensation? Maybe I should look for some other models? Please let me know do you consider your TAB2 being a good choice, which model and what are the alternatives within similar price? I didn't ask those questions before buying HTC Sensation and I have device that have many faults that are caused by HTC not giving damn about making their product fully reliable I hope that is not the case with TAB2. Please share your opinions whether you satisfied with your purchase , would you recommend and any advice for new to Samsung android products guy. Thanks.
The Tab2 is a good choice but i think the Tab 3 is more potential and its price is good (199 Eur).
If you want good support from xda (more roms and other mods) you can choose tab 2 over tab 3 . coz 10 inch tab 3 has an intel processor so don't expect cynogenmod and other AOSP , so you should stuck in stock rom .
If you care performance and design over support then you can choose tab 3
But the better options in galaxy devices are note 10.1 (expensive) or note 8.0 . coz both have s -pen and and are goodplayers in the case of performance . So you don't miss anything out in these tablets

New nexus 7 is a cr*p .it has got multitouch issues and wifi issues and the buid quality is not that good (but on paper the specs are impressive and it has a good developers support(coz it's nexus!))

You can run many hd games really well with tab 2 GT-P5110 because i have it with cyanogenmod 10.2(android 4.3) and with custom kernel which supports gpu overclock but you don't need to so to play without lag. Just remeber that when you have bought(if you buy tab 2) you get custom jelly bean 4.1.2 c custom 4.3 or stock 4.1.2 rom because icecream sandwich is so bad, i had eve downloading problems on many sites with it but it is juat 4.0.4 or 4.0.3 icecream sandwich stock rom. I have had tab 2 for about 4 months and for example (with rom i am using) i can play nfs most wanted and asphault 8 without lag without overclock, and i am sure that too with 4.1.2. Reason why i don't recomend 4.2.2 jelly bean roms is because they haven't so good performance but its just me because i am gamer, but it has good features and so on.
There are probably better choices for the cost, but that said I've ran ICS stock, jellybean stock, cm 10, cm10.1 and cm10.2 on the 7 inch variant and have been very happy with it, my only gripe I've ever had was screen quality, - it's not HD. But that doesn't so me from preferring it over my kindle fire HD.
I am not sure it will be a contender when key lime pie comes out.

I suggest to choose another mark. Samsung will tell you that the device can receive the update but honestly it is a fake. I have a galaxy tab 2 10.1 and in Italy the update to jellybean was for January 2013. Now it is September and I didn't receive any updated. The same for my phone galaxy duos. **** Samsung

Hi. I think your choice also depends on whether you want the tab for games, for reading, watching series or movies, so forth...
I believe nexus 7 is a great choice if you care much about games or you are a developer, however my opinion is that Galaxy line of Tabs have a very good battery life, good developer support, and works fine for everyday use.

No. Super leggy.

I like my tab 2 7.0. Really happy with it, little lagging but I mainly use it as ebook reader and with nova prime on it lag is almost non existent. I don't noticed any lag in other games either. Again, lag only on the stock launcher touchwiz (even the s4 has) and some browsing.

Nexus 7 is good device and has very impressive specs on paper but it's not good for real life use. Actually nexus devices are meant for developers and high end users (especially nexus 7) . New nexus 7 is a very defective model on both hardware side and software side..and we can see their real build quality of asus from that device(very poor). If you're considering value for your money then flo (N7) is a no-go
If you want to see the poor build quality of N7 then head to this N7 thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2380223
I can compare to Kindle Fire original, N7, Nook HD (Hummingbird CM 10.2), Nook HD+ ((Ovation CM 10.2). The stock, rooted, 2.7 is my favorite
GPS, front/rear camera, MicroSD Card, microphone, hardware keys and IR are important features for me. With MightyText and Magicjack installed, I have what is almost a phone. A 7 inch GPS is a wonderful thing and that is difficult without the External Storage. Downside is weak screen resolution and poor laggy screen with Touchwiz (use Nova Launcher).
If screen resolution is a major factor, the CM ROM Nooks are a great value.

Miracast

Hello all. Hope you are enjoying your N5s. Yesterday I bought a cheap streaming box ( PANASONIC - DMP-MS10EB-K ) with miracast capabilities. Unfortunately I can not get miracast to work.
There are YouTube videos of the device working with the note3 and s4 as well as nexus 7, but no joy for me and my lovely N5.
Has anyone got miracast working? If so what device are you using?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
At which step is it not working for you?
I'm using a Sony Bravia smart TV and worked right away!
Be sure to enable miracast on your phone though, it's under display settings, "Wireless Display" has to be ON.
It is enabled on phone. My phone does see the Panasonic device and starts connecting. The TV screen shows that it is trying to connect also then after about 30 seconds the Panasonic disappears from the list on the phone and then I get unable to connect.

The Panasonic is still not working so I will get different device. Any suggestions?

I have just bought the DMP-MS10EB-K too and I can't get it to work with my Nexus 5. I get the same problem as you describe.
I have my Nexus 7 (2013) in work and I will test it tomorrow but I have seen videos of it working Nexus 7 to DMP-MS10EB-K.
I will post if it works later.

This thing is Rubbish. I tried a Note 2, Galaxy s3, Surface pro and Surface 2. Non work. It just connects for a couple of seconds then disconnects with no picture at all. Really annoying. Would be nice to get a list on this thread as to which devices do work. If any?

I will get my Nexus 7 and XPS12 which I think has miracast and post the results tomorrow. If I have no luck I think I will be taking it back. Its a shame really as its pretty good at dlna and Netflix. There is a video on YouTube with a guy using it with Samsung phones and a Nexus 7.
Think he might be a reseller of some sort. Did you see his review on Amazon, talk about Over the top its ridiculous. Sounds like he is selling them to me. Besides he doesn't show the device on youtube or how he connected. Very suspect. Let us know how you get on cheers.
Well I suppose it is good to know that it is not just me having problems. What to try next?

Only had time to test for 10 minutes. Nexus 7 2013 connected after a couple of attempts. I could flick the menu's around fine with minimal lag and was impressed. I then tried to play some video and the MS10 froze on two occasions and I had to pull the plug to restart it.
I will play around with the settings and test some other devices tomorrow.

cool thanks mate keep us posted.

I have tried the Rocketfish Miracast Video Receiver using my Nexus 5. I have no problem connect to my old LG HDTV( no CEC support, cannot change the receiver setting). It mirror the games( Asphalt 8, Sonic Racing, Riptide GP2) I played on Nexus 5 with little lagging. Mainly I want to show pictures and family video of my phone to TV, I found it works fine for me.
Hi, I've also tried with my smart tv LG 42lm620s, but without luck.. I see the TV on N5, when I try to connect to TV, on TV I see the loading bar for the connection, but after some time (~20sec) TV outputs an error of "device not compatible" and TV disappears from N5 list.
I sent an email to LG, still waiting for response....

I bought a Panasonic BluRay player with built in Miracast support yesterday and cannot get it to work with my Nexus 5. They 'try to connect' and then it fails with my N5 freezing every time. Adding to my frustration is the fact that my N5 is completely stock with only root & a custom recovery.
Also, it works perfectly with my stock, unrooted Galaxy S 4 & my Nexus 4 running Slimbean. Short of installing Slimkat, which will eventually happen, does anyone have any ideas for getting this working?

Exactly the same here. Note 2, Nexus 5, Surface 2 Pro, all fall on this device. It seems to disconnect from wireless and then goes AWOL like a banana. Waiting for a response from Panasonic as this is clearly an issue with them, not with the Nexus 5.

[Q] Nexus 5 MirrorLink Compatible?

Anyone tried to connect their Nexus 5 to a MirrorLink device? Since LG is a member and the Nexus 4 was compatible I was hoping that carried forward for the N5. What about Miracast? I saw the option to share display wirelessly.
The Google Nexus 4 does not support Mirror Link as far as im aware ...don't think the Nexus 5 does either which is a real shame!

Thanks for the reply. I am getting my screen sharing solutions mixed up. Miracast was supported with the N4 and is on the N5 too. It does suck MirrorLink is not supported. Hopefully someone comes up with a solution to pass the touch interface through.

Just wanted to bump this thread to see if anyone has found a solution to getting the Nexus 5 to work with a MirrorLink device. My Google-fu hasn't turned up anything promising unfortunately....
