Miracast - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all. Hope you are enjoying your N5s. Yesterday I bought a cheap streaming box ( PANASONIC - DMP-MS10EB-K ) with miracast capabilities. Unfortunately I can not get miracast to work.
There are YouTube videos of the device working with the note3 and s4 as well as nexus 7, but no joy for me and my lovely N5.
Has anyone got miracast working? If so what device are you using?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

At which step is it not working for you?
I'm using a Sony Bravia smart TV and worked right away!
Be sure to enable miracast on your phone though, it's under display settings, "Wireless Display" has to be ON.

It is enabled on phone. My phone does see the Panasonic device and starts connecting. The TV screen shows that it is trying to connect also then after about 30 seconds the Panasonic disappears from the list on the phone and then I get unable to connect.

The Panasonic is still not working so I will get different device. Any suggestions?

I have just bought the DMP-MS10EB-K too and I can't get it to work with my Nexus 5. I get the same problem as you describe.
I have my Nexus 7 (2013) in work and I will test it tomorrow but I have seen videos of it working Nexus 7 to DMP-MS10EB-K.
I will post if it works later.

This thing is Rubbish. I tried a Note 2, Galaxy s3, Surface pro and Surface 2. Non work. It just connects for a couple of seconds then disconnects with no picture at all. Really annoying. Would be nice to get a list on this thread as to which devices do work. If any?

I will get my Nexus 7 and XPS12 which I think has miracast and post the results tomorrow. If I have no luck I think I will be taking it back. Its a shame really as its pretty good at dlna and Netflix. There is a video on YouTube with a guy using it with Samsung phones and a Nexus 7.

Think he might be a reseller of some sort. Did you see his review on Amazon, talk about Over the top its ridiculous. Sounds like he is selling them to me. Besides he doesn't show the device on youtube or how he connected. Very suspect. Let us know how you get on cheers.

Well I suppose it is good to know that it is not just me having problems. What to try next?

Only had time to test for 10 minutes. Nexus 7 2013 connected after a couple of attempts. I could flick the menu's around fine with minimal lag and was impressed. I then tried to play some video and the MS10 froze on two occasions and I had to pull the plug to restart it.
I will play around with the settings and test some other devices tomorrow.

I have tried the Rocketfish Miracast Video Receiver using my Nexus 5. I have no problem connect to my old LG HDTV( no CEC support, cannot change the receiver setting). It mirror the games( Asphalt 8, Sonic Racing, Riptide GP2) I played on Nexus 5 with little lagging. Mainly I want to show pictures and family video of my phone to TV, I found it works fine for me.

Hi, I've also tried with my smart tv LG 42lm620s, but without luck.. I see the TV on N5, when I try to connect to TV, on TV I see the loading bar for the connection, but after some time (~20sec) TV outputs an error of "device not compatible" and TV disappears from N5 list.
I sent an email to LG, still waiting for response....

I bought a Panasonic BluRay player with built in Miracast support yesterday and cannot get it to work with my Nexus 5. They 'try to connect' and then it fails with my N5 freezing every time. Adding to my frustration is the fact that my N5 is completely stock with only root & a custom recovery.
Also, it works perfectly with my stock, unrooted Galaxy S 4 & my Nexus 4 running Slimbean. Short of installing Slimkat, which will eventually happen, does anyone have any ideas for getting this working?

Exactly the same here. Note 2, Nexus 5, Surface 2 Pro, all fall on this device. It seems to disconnect from wireless and then goes AWOL like a banana. Waiting for a response from Panasonic as this is clearly an issue with them, not with the Nexus 5.

[Q]Galaxy Tab 2 or Nexus 4?

Guys, i have a [probably] stupid question.
I know the two devices listed are a phone and a tablet but...
I dont have a lot of cash. I currently have a Motorola Defy running on CM10. Im asking myself should i buy a Tab 2 (which is now $179 on amazon.com) and keep the Defy (and have two devices) or sell the Defy and buy a LG Nexus 4 (having a single device). What do you guys recommend? My main uses are browsing the web, reading books and watching movies, occasional games, and occasional office documents editing. I want the portability of the Nexus 4 and keeping my device with me always but the larger screen of the Tab 2 has an advantage.
Thanks a lot!
Hi!
Once I decide to buy a tablet I had the same question.
It´s very easy to share the phone internet to tablet when out of your home or other place without wireless and once connected via bluetooth the tablet will give you a very nice confort for internet browsing, email, etc, besides book reading and other task such as games if it´s also the case.
It´s not good to answer a phone call with a tablet - wierd experience. And you will have to keep it with you, sometimes it´s size will be a problem. If you focus a less sized device you will lose the benefits of bigger screen, sometimes 7" seems to be small and sometimes big. Everything will depends upon your usage.
From my point of view you should keep with your Defy and buy the Tab 2, Wifi version. Nowadays I have also a Galaxy tab 2 7.0 + Motorola phone and they are very good friends one to each other. I am happy with my choice as with my phone I can do everything I would do a 3G version, ie (P3100).
Get the Nexus 4. It is fast, has stock Android, and you don't have to keep up with two devices.

Galaxy tab 2 have 7 inch screen so good for reading books, have full hd playback so good for movies, support most of hd games
So it must be great.
And on other hand if you want pure android experience, fast processor,2gb ram, early updates,a better camera, intense gaming go for nexus 4.
7" is a different experience than a 4". I find myself using the tablet (7.0) over my phone most of the time.
Thanks for all your answers... but i still cant make up my mind maybe ill wait for some time and save up for the nexus 4
Even I am stuck with the same problem. Though the tab 2 has a 7" screen its no HD display, that's what is stopping me from getting a tab 2.

Well Tab 2 7.0 is 179.99 shipped while Nexus 4 is 393 tax and shipping. I love my Galaxy Nexus and Tab 2 7. I think it's a good combo. Between the two will be how you spend your days. Near wifi most of the time? Get the tab. On the move a lot or need a powerful phone? Nexus 4. And then there's the price difference. Even though the Nexus is a bargain, price difference is big.

if bolt, how does Samsung's own sharing work? I really want too be able to plush a custom app we have at work upon into I TV/ projectors and clan isn't an option.

Depending on exactly what you are trying to accomplish, it may already be capable via AllShare Cast. I can show my Note 10.1 screen on multiple note 10.1 devices, I think 8 is the max (I have only had 5 going, no more too add or test), but using AllShare Cast, the other devices would display whatever my screen is displaying. This will also work for newer Samsung TV/Displays, at least natively on their "Smart TV's" from 2012 for certain. Also, their is an AllShare Hub accessory that can be purchased to do the same thing on any TV/monitor/projector with HDMI input. It works with both audio & video & while the hub is a bit expensive for older tv's ($99.00 USD), if you register a Samsung device on the Samsung website, you get a code good for %50 off up to 10 items. I used the code to get the Hub for $49.00, as well as for a Navigation & a Desk dock.
It is great for just about anything except racing or fast action games. There is a small lag, nothing major, almost unnoticeable, unless you are playing a game where a few milliseconds can be the difference between wrecking or making a turn in Asphalt. For everything else though, it is pretty sweet. I use it for my older Plasma in the media room.

Note 10.1 already support miracast via allshare cast, if your tv supports miracast it should work on it and if not buy allshare cast dongle

All share cast will mirror whatever is going on on your tab, it is like connecting the tab via hdmi to a screen, so if you run your app on note it will show on every connected device

Lag on MX Player

Hey all, on my Nexus 5 & 7 I get lag when watch non HD MKV files on MX Player in Hardware Acceleration mode. But on the Galaxy S4, there i no problem at all.
On the Nexus devices I have to use Software decoder, and I feel this uses more battery than hardware. Why is there massive lag on MX player?

I believe it's related to some drivers and codecs.
On my LG g2, if I use stock rom, I can play with hardware decider but when I switch to cm10.2 I have glitchy experience with hardware decider. I've to switch to switch to software decoders and all works well. Never faced any problem with battery on g2, but this phone socks battery like anything. I've got to be more careful.

Idk man, if it can't make me through a good full day use it's not very useful to me you know? Add that to the terrible speaker, and the fact that mine has 3 dead pixels (getting a replacement, so hopefully I will be happy with the new one) but overall idk man.
Its really fast though!

I tried Dice on my N7 and it had the same problem. I'll try again on the N5.
Make sure you install the latest custom codec. In MX Player go to Settings - Decoder scroll to the very bottom and tap Download Custom Codec. This should take you to ktsamy's thread on this site's Android Software Development forum where you can download V1.7.20 Arm v7-Neon codec. Follow the instructions to set this as the Custom Codec in MX Player. Hopefully this may help you, I was seeing stutter on playback of my recorded TV shows until I set this up on my N5.

Slimport

Alright people: I don't know, if this is the right place, but I'll just post here...
So I recieved this last week and tried it out immediately... But: it doesn't work properly. I got it to work for 2 seconds but then the TV always says 'no signal'... I tried it on 2 different TVs but it's the same on both. It also doesn't work on my nexus 7 (2012) stock, rooted and also not on a complete stock nexus 7 (2012). So I want to know, if i need to enable something of if it is a hardware bug and also if anyone else has this problem.
Thanks to u guys who help me

Mmh i don't know personally, but i have at home an MHL cable i want to know if i can mod the cable to work on Nexus 5
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Mhl is not compatible with any new Nexus devices: it's used by Samsung only so it will work with the Galaxy Nexus.
Slimport adaptors are compatible with Nexus 4, 5 and 7 (2013 only), so its normal that you can't get your 2012 nexus 7 to work.
Instead, it should be perfectly working with a Nexus 5, since no previous configuration is required.
In my case, the first time I connected my N5 to my HDTV via Slimport adaptor it took about ten seconds to see the home screen of my phone, but since then, it has always worked just after connecting it.

I didn't have to wait very long to get an image, it usually takes no more than 2-3 seconds. Maybe the adapter is defective?
Here's a demo showing slimport on a nexus 5:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnR3KofhVMA&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I always have an issue when connecting my gf's S4 to her TV via an MHL adapter. I have to make sure the connections are tight and eliminate alot of movement, PITA!
But I guess just give everything a good push, make sure connections are really good and lay it on a flat surface to see if movement is affecting the connection. The adapter your using might be flimsy too

Not compatible with Tab S 8.4?

I just got my watch today, but it is not able to connect to my Tab S 8.4 LTE... The Gear manager in my tablet cannot find the watch even though it is right next to it. I tried to reboot both devices and turn the Bluetooth off and on, and nothing works. Really Samsung, not even compatible with your own galaxy devices?

The watch will work with every phone with 1.5 gb of ram and android 4.4 and up. I'm sure you will find a second hand S5 for 100 $ to use it for 3 or 4 months. Then resell it.

Yea, that is probably what I should do now. Good advice, thanks.
I'm in the same boat as you. My primary phone is (and will continue to be) a Tab A with telephony. It won't work with the S3, so I picked up a cheap Android that lives in my desk drawer and is only used on occasions when the watch needs to be paired with a phone.
I run a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 and i had to buy a used Samsung Galaxy S4 mini to pair and configure my Gear S3. What a pity !
Hi!
Any updates on this?
I spent last couple of days trying to pair Gear S3 with Tab 8.4 Pro (SM-T325) running stock kitkat 4.4 - no luck (((
It's such a shame that Samsung doesn't even make an attemp to make their own devices compatible with each other. Was a big surprise for me.
So, did anybody manage to couple Gear S3 with any tablet? If yes, how did you do it?
