hi all,
i have 2 questions.
Qualcomm Dalvik:
There is a difference between flash a rom like @rascarlo rastakat and the file motoX_4.4_qcoptimized.zip or flash the rastakat compiled by @simms22 or @lichti1901 ?
Bluetooth:
When i press the button on my headset on N5, like on GN on the screen go black and shows "initializing", and stop here. if i repress the button return to the homescreen.
I use the os in italian, same on 4.1-4.2-4.3 on gnex, always with the offline voice installed.
is not possible have vocal command working on headset?
tnx in advance

Yes, there is a difference. Think of the ROM as the OS on your computer. Dalvik run's inside that OS or ROM. I would do some more reading before you flash anything.
na, theres no difference between flashing rastakat and the moto x dalvik and flashing rastakat with the moto x dalvik already included. the only difference is there is one less flash with the rastakat that includes the moto x dalvik
about bluetooth i cant help, i dont use bluetooth(rarely).
thanks again

Hey all,
I have the Nexus S 4G on Sprint. I was wondering which MIUI ROM I should use. The one at http://miuiandroid.com/roms/miui-development-roms/ lists only one "Nexus S", will that work on the 4G?
Or should I use the one on MIUI.US that lists the Nexus S 4G? I know there's some weird drama between the MIUI sites which I find unfortunate, but I am just not sure which one I should use.
Thanks!
Rom manager app would probably be my suggestion. I never ran 9-9 but I started with 9-16 and opinion was it had a good battery life performance. I tried 9-23 and thought it ate up the battery faster. It could be my imagination too that 23 was worse on battery. As of this moment, only 9-23 is available on rom manager. I don't know why they don't have older versions listed. In ns4g dev section, look for the miui thread and the first post might have 9-16 still there. I don't know what the differences are between the two.
I would, with rom manager, go to download rom section and go to peter alfonso and get d720sprke1 baseband and flash it so you can have the newest radio firmware. Use a file explorer and go to /scard/clockworkmod/download/bit.ly directory. Rename the oddly named file there to something that makes sense and can be flashed whenever you want to with custom recovery. I'm going to rename it to d720sprke1-radio.zip and then copy it elsewhere for safe keeping. Before flashing, wipe dalvik cache then flash the radio. After that, boot into regular rom or whatever you have running. Reboot into custom recovery and do a backup of the rom you have on there now (in case it doesn't work out with miui). After that, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, and in advanced wipe dalvik cache. Next go back and flash the miui rom you downloaded. Now remember, with miui, you will not have 4g, so decide if that's important to you before. Flash the rom. I hope you don't need more instructions than this. I don't know your experience level.

Keep an eye on brainmaster's thread, he said he might have his 4g version ready today. It's excellent!
So After some roms instaled on my lg there I chose GTR V6 (V7.8 DONT SEMS to work stuck at logo)
My question is about roms and kernels, so after I instaled GTR v6 on my phone I need/can to instal a kernel ? so If I can or need how I do Ive read a lot of threads but I dndt found a good answer so after I instaled a custom room How do I instal a kernel Is the same as rom? revocery then
wipe data/resetfactory and wipe chache and instal like a rom? Plz tell me how to do the right thing
I just want a good phone for a little gaming and like a normal phone
no.. just flash without wiping.

Step 1 - Boot to recovery
Step 2 - Back up (just incase)
Step 3 - Flash kernel of choice
(optional)Step 4 - Wipe 'cache' and 'Dalvik Cache'
Step 5 - Reboot
Step 6 - PROFIT!!!!
The cache, and dalvik wipe are optional to me. I always do it, and have better luck that way. Doesn't harm, just makes that next boot longer as it rebuilds those caches. I had an issue ONCE where I had to wipe cache, and just do it every time I flash a kernel now

Quick noob question: what is a new kernel good for ?
I already have AOKP 4.0.4 on my P500, but saw different talks about different kernels.
So, what is the kernel and what it does.
Wil flashing a new kernel affect other stuff (installed apps, settings...) ?

There are different kernels that people have worked on that are better for certain purposes. Consider the ROM a airplane, and the kernel the pilot. Different pilots are better at certain things, but all are certified to fly the plane
Things that our kernel devs have added are touch screen driver fixes (LGs were ****), undervolting and CPU frequencies additions for performance, VPN stuffs, ect ect. When you install a new kernel,it won't make you lose any data or settings. Everything will be just as it is for you.
Basically adding features and improving performance beyond what LG provides. Looks like Williams awesome looking AOKP is running the same kernel Hehap does on the version of ICS I am running and it is pretty good. I am testing DJnoxDs ICS kernal with touch screen fixes and vysnc off here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587209 and it is pretty fantastic so far.
But if you wanted to try out different kernels with the ROM you areon, you can flash it over in recovery. If you do a backup in recovery before hand then you can easily go back to the kernel he provides.
Just make sure if you are having any issues with his ROM after that, to keep the fact you changed kernels in mind. Check the threads for the kernel you are trying if issues come up after flashing, or at least mention in William's thread that you are using a different kernel if issues are coming up so bug reporting happens correctly.
Got it, thank you very much for the infos.

Hello everyone. I installed on my htc sensation XE (after unlock and S-OFF) kit_kat_4.4.2_with_ION, precisely "cm-11-20140109-Sultan-pyramid" with gapps and sultan kernel Aroma. How can I install the ROM upgrade "cm-11-20140117-Sultan-pyramid" without loosing all my app and data (ex. text, cronology, app saving etc)?? do I have to do a full wipe or do I have just to flash the new ROM? Do I have to use an app for backups?
Thanks
Just flash the newest rom over your existing installation, after that wipe cache and dalvik, that's all.
You won't loose anything.
thankyou very much! I just did it Can I use this operation for all the update of this ROM?? I hope so..
hello again..
I have a problem: I can not adjust the volume of the headset during the call. The volume is too loud and I had not this problem before I flashed the ROM. how can I do?
thanks

Sounds like a bug from the rom.. you could up- and downgrade withouth dataloss/full wipe when you keep the androidversion (4.4.2 in that case) in mind.. and remember backups for stable times
<br /> now, i've a question too and i hope, it's right placed: whats about phone-encryption? I test it in every rom which is 4.4, but i always get the logcat-error, that it's unable to detect the block-size..
From my old phones i know about problems with nand and similiar.. but the a-encryption should basicly work with ext4 and emmc-storage, so would be wonderfull when its work (and its may not that big deal to solve..?)
but @all: thank you devs for all that fixing and developing!!!

Hi,
I have a issue that im not used to... i recently got a Nexus 5, and first thing i did was to unlock, root and install aokp rom(nightly)
Then i wanted to install Franco Kernel, using Francos own app to try flash... the device reboots, and are stuck on the google logo.
Have no other choice to enter fastboot mode, and reflash rom(to have it overwrite the kernel), and it starts up again.
Then tried to download kernel zip and flash it in TWRP instead, but with the same result. Also tried changeing to CWM but it doesnt work with encrypted devices.
I have always used AOKP + Franco Kernel on my older devices, but now it seems impossible.
I dont know why it doesnt work, but i have some ideas, and hope someone can put me in the right direction.
1. My device is encrypted and that makes it fail.
2. AOKP lastest nightly rom is not compatible with Franco Kernel or vice versa.
3. Something is broken...
Regards
Ranarn
aokp is cm based(CAF) i believe, which would make it incompatible with any aosp kernels.

Ah that makes sense, but i guess something have changed then, since i have AOKP + Franco running on 2 older devices.

yea, just last week cm source went back to CAF.
I know chaos kernel is CAF supported, I would give that a shot. I am still running 9.1 and it works the way I want it to for me (before they went CAF).

1). There is a Q&A subforum where this question should have been posted. No offense.
2). The size and colors, just, why? You have a problem with your eyes or something? (< this is a serious question)
And, this is because CyanogenMod has changed the way the kernels are built, kernel modules are now built into the kernel; DonkeyKang (and almost any custom kernel) loads the kernel modules from files. Which, in my opinion, is the stupidest change ever made in CM.
And the Wi-Fi support on the kernel was provided by a kernel module; from which CM12 has disabled the "loadable modules support" and has been now integrated into the kernel.
In short: You will have to wait until the kernel author corrects this, or use a older CM12 version, older than 08/01/2015. On that, you will be able to install your custom kernel.
Okay Thanks!!
That's all I wanted to know...I'll install a Nightly released before 8th Jan.
