do the Note 10.1 ROMs allow full spen functionality? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I'm interested in trying out an Android 4.3 (or later) ROM for the Note 10.1, but I wonder does installing a ROM disable the spen or limit its functionality in any way? I wasn't sure where I can find this information.
Thank you

Shouldn't but the Samsung apps like spen and s health won't be included as these would be aokp or aosp roms.... Samsung hasn't released 4.3 on the note 10.1 yet so you loose these Samsung specific apps, you should be able to find replacements for most.

Hi, I don't use the Samsung Apps, the main thing I need is the spen to work and for it to have its pressure sensitivity. Is the multi-window feature though a Samsung thing that would not be available (or is that a standard Android feature or is there something I can do to enable it if not?)

mini-app is a unique thing to the Galaxy Tab 2, so it would have to be developed as a mini-app.Right now, the only mini-apps that are available are the Samsung ones. because it is a proprietary of samsung (like the IR blaster) so the only thng you can do is port it. but it requires touch wiz ux frame work so the whole rom should be ported and it is a difficult thing.
It'ss impossible because it need Samsung's framework that' diferent from Android original (CM9 one)
Could always DL equivalent min apps and use something like sidebar launcher to launch them. Tiny apps has a few like floating apps like calc, notes, and music controls. Also their is floating browser, popcorn player, and many more.
Screen with sidebar launcher, and some floating apps running

[Q] S-Pen on GT-P5110?

Hi, i'm new here on xda forums, i own a galaxy tab gt-p5110 and i flashed the lastest official JB 4.1.1 BTU (United Kingdom, since there's no update for my region and ICS is pretty slow and laggy), i decided to use Nova Launcher, since allows to create shorcuts to certain activities (or settings) that usually you can access in the settings menu, mean i was looking for diferent settings actions and i found that there are in the factory mode, actions to an "SPenTestUI" and "S-Pen detection test", also in factory test there are actions for s-pen hovering and accuracy tests there was even a settings tab for some S-Pen options (i dont remember how was the activity shorcut called since i flashed another JB 4.1.1 official rom) so, my question is, there was planned a posibility to use a kind of special s-pen on tab 2? or maybe it was a feature that didn't get to the final product, or note 10.1 and tab 2 10.1 share the same ROM with just a little of things different?
by the way, sorry for my bad english
The S-Pen would never work on the Galaxy Tab 2, because it's some screen hardware involved that our tablets don't have : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34674186&postcount=18

yeah i know that, but what i mean is, was the s-pen a planned feature that didn't get it to the final product?, or maybe the note 10.1 and tab 2 10.1 share a similar system base (or even the same) or there was maybe a special pen for the tab, why are those activities there ??

How is it possible to run Stock apps on a custom rom?

My favorite rom so far is [ROM]AllianceROM_JB XXLSZ_v3_|_Evolution_of_TW_Custom_ROMs_| DPI switch online. But its only supported on gt-n7000 galaxy note. I have a att galaxy note i717. Is there a way that someone can port this rom to i717 phone.
I'm curious to how this alliance rom can support stock touchwiz apps like s note and s memo and Samsung apps on a aokp rom? I not sure if the rom is aokp, aosp, cm rom. I just know it looks like a galaxy nexus rom. So how do these stock apps run on a galaxy nexus looking rom?
Are there any roms that can support touchwiz stock apps on a jb galaxy nexus looking rom for i717? I just simply want my phone to look like jb nexus (with the cool notifications) but support smemo, s note, Samsung apps, etc on my i717.
Thanks! Really appreciated, I've been waiting for a rom like this.
If you just care about looks, why not just use a launcher like Apex or Nova ? If you want more after that, consider a ROM.
I don't know anything about the ROM you're talking about but from what I can see it appears to be a TW-based ROM - thus the stock apps will work.
I'm using a TW-based ROM on my S3 and stock apps can work along with other native TW features. But if all you care about is the look you would probably need a launcher, anyway - so I'd start with that and then see what you want to change from there.

Thanks alto. I want a little more than just the look. I want the toggles and contacts in the notification center, custom toggles and lock screen, pretty much the jelly bean features. I like the contacts, message, and phone layout on the nexus. I see that aosp, cm, and aokp have that layout. You know any good roms that have what I'm describing but still support s-note, s memo, and Samsung apps? Thanks in advance!

S-pen stock Samsung applications

Hi fellows,
I have been running cm 10.1 on my note N7000 for some time now after using stock touchwiz before that. CM is really great but I'm missing S-pen related productivity apps on it. Since, they are apps like other apps on the phone so can anyone please give me the apk for these applications?
Also, can we install premium suite on it for additional features from note 2?if so, please share the link for installing that add well.
Much thanks in advance for the help.
I guess you're new... You cant install Touchwiz based apps on CM, Paranoid Android, AOSP, AOKP etc, because they need Samsung framework.
Yeah it's tough but you need to choose.
buddy u have certain alternatives to samsung spen apps.
although the exact functionality cant be replicated but still, they do the job perfectly.
the top Spen apps available are
1- GMD SPEN Gestures control app
2- GMD Gesture Control
3- GNote - a note taking app available in XDA
4 - Jotter - a premium note taking app available in Play Store
5- Some other SNote alternatives like Asus Note, Notespad mobile, Memo(although there are a few versions to this also by different developers), and many more to name a few here
If u just want to pick urself, I would suggest you go to Play store and just search for Spen or similar...
U'll have heaps of results.
PS- by the way the newer builds of certain ROMS based on AOSP have Stylus gestures incorporated into them ...
try them out...
regards and good luck
Thanks guys. I feared that but was hoping I might be wrong. So, either I'll have to go back to touch wiz or choose from the alternatives suggested above. Much appreciated your help.

[Q] How does Touchwiz compare with stock Android?

Hi all,
I am contemplating changing my 18month old Nexus 5 for a S6 Edge.
I have used Samsung phones in the past but always ended up flashing stock Android ROM as I couldn't stand the replacement Samsung apps.
My question is, is touchwiz now on par with the stock Androis (Nexus) functionalities?
I am aware that we can simply replace the launcher for Google Now Launcher however how do the core apps compare with the stock ones?
Now with Google putting most of their apps in the Play Store we could essentially replace most of the Samsung apps but:
Does the phone dialer support the telephone number lookup available in the Nexus range (look for a business name to resolve a number, same for incoming calls)?
Does Touchwiz lockscreen support the latest option of smartlock (trusted places and trusted devices) ?
How does Touchwiz manage the notification modes of the stock Android (none/priority/all) and can we schedule a DND time for the night ?
How do the lockscreen notifications appear compare to stock Android ?
I haven't been able to find good screenshots of all the menus present in the S6 to compare the functionalities.
1. No
2. Yes
3. It supports all those modes
4. Similar to stock android depending on what
mhhh ok, sounds like the Samsung customisation still isn't as good.
If running a custom ROM such as CM then you lose the great Samsung camera and the Exynos optimisations and staying with stock Samsung ROM you lose some of the basic stock Android features, there is never a perfect system is there ?!

Samsung has cut down TouchWiz a lot this time around though. The phone is actually fast now.
