How is it possible to run Stock apps on a custom rom? - General Questions and Answers

My favorite rom so far is [ROM]AllianceROM_JB XXLSZ_v3_|_Evolution_of_TW_Custom_ROMs_| DPI switch online. But its only supported on gt-n7000 galaxy note. I have a att galaxy note i717. Is there a way that someone can port this rom to i717 phone.
I'm curious to how this alliance rom can support stock touchwiz apps like s note and s memo and Samsung apps on a aokp rom? I not sure if the rom is aokp, aosp, cm rom. I just know it looks like a galaxy nexus rom. So how do these stock apps run on a galaxy nexus looking rom?
Are there any roms that can support touchwiz stock apps on a jb galaxy nexus looking rom for i717? I just simply want my phone to look like jb nexus (with the cool notifications) but support smemo, s note, Samsung apps, etc on my i717.
Thanks! Really appreciated, I've been waiting for a rom like this.

If you just care about looks, why not just use a launcher like Apex or Nova ? If you want more after that, consider a ROM.
I don't know anything about the ROM you're talking about but from what I can see it appears to be a TW-based ROM - thus the stock apps will work.
I'm using a TW-based ROM on my S3 and stock apps can work along with other native TW features. But if all you care about is the look you would probably need a launcher, anyway - so I'd start with that and then see what you want to change from there.

Thanks alto. I want a little more than just the look. I want the toggles and contacts in the notification center, custom toggles and lock screen, pretty much the jelly bean features. I like the contacts, message, and phone layout on the nexus. I see that aosp, cm, and aokp have that layout. You know any good roms that have what I'm describing but still support s-note, s memo, and Samsung apps? Thanks in advance!

Questions about TouchWiz and S3 Weather Widget

Hey Forum dwellers, this is my first post here on XDA Developers, I have just started down the road of customizing my tablet and have already found this forum very useful. I was wondering if you people could help me with a couple questions.
I have a GT-P6800 of course and the S3 SGH-1747M, I love both of them for their own reasons but I'm trying to make some of their features the same. I have flashed the Stock ICS ROM to my GT-P6800 so they are looking almost the same. My first questions is does the ICS Stock ROM run TouchWiz 5 or the older version?
I really love the stock weather widget on my S3 and would love to get it on the 7.7 tab. I have looked at various walkthroughs, some skins of other apps, some downloading APK files. A lot mention the launcher as a big part of getting the app to work. I am running the stock touchwiz UI so I thought it should work with the APKs but I just get problem loading Widget when I add it to my homepage, it looks correct from the add screen, but not once it is added.
I have been following this thread among others.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724553
Is there any way to have the same launcher on my 7.7 as is on the S3? I notice depending on the APP that there are different widgets, for instance the BBC app, on my S3 I can have a widget with scrolling news, but on my 7.7 I only get the app icon. What is the reason for this? My only thought is it must be the launcher since both devices are ICS 4.0.4.
Anyway any clarification on this would be great, as I read and learn more about the possibilities of Android.
Thanks for any help.
I can only answer tw on 6800 ICS is tw 4.0 so its older than tw on S3
So is it possible to update it to TouchWiz 5?
no it is not possible as the dimension for 6800 and s3 is different... but you can search if there is any touchwiz launcher port in the forum. it might work with the device...

mini-app is a unique thing to the Galaxy Tab 2, so it would have to be developed as a mini-app.Right now, the only mini-apps that are available are the Samsung ones. because it is a proprietary of samsung (like the IR blaster) so the only thng you can do is port it. but it requires touch wiz ux frame work so the whole rom should be ported and it is a difficult thing.
It'ss impossible because it need Samsung's framework that' diferent from Android original (CM9 one)
Could always DL equivalent min apps and use something like sidebar launcher to launch them. Tiny apps has a few like floating apps like calc, notes, and music controls. Also their is floating browser, popcorn player, and many more.
Screen with sidebar launcher, and some floating apps running

[Q] TouchWiz Features in custom roms

Are the TouchWiz features added into custom roms like CM or slim bean? I don't see anything about the motion features that come with stock touchwiz on the SIII. Are they apps I can flash after installing a custom rom? Would love to use the 4.1.2 slim bean, but not if I have to lose some of the cool motion features (like dialing the contact on the screen by moving the phone to your head).

Touchwiz features do not work without Touchwiz. They are tied into the TW framework. Same as Sense features don't work if you strip out Sense on HTC. Those on AOPK/AOSP/CM are only looking for the speed of the hardware and basic stock Android OS and not the features. There are some 3rd party apps such as camera and wave apps that mimic some of the features you lose depending on if they are compatible with the sensor code.
athe smart alert motion control is the only thing I miss going from TW to AOSP roms.
I almost went back to TW, but I learned to live without them. (it wasnt hard)
Make a nandroid and try slimbean. If you dont like it you can always revert back quickly.

I might do this. There are enough negatives in TW that ditching it for stock will outweigh the positives of TW I think. :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for the answers.
I would really love to find someway to port some of the TW apks to an AOSP rom. The one thing I can't stand is the AOSP contacts. I actually like some of the TW apps such as the messenger, calculator, calendar, and the camera, but I would sacrifice them to run an AOSP rom.
It seems like it should be fairly simple, albeit slightly out of my field of knowledge (although I'll still give it a shot over the weekend) but shouldn't it be as simply as pulling the necessary resources from the TW Framework and baking them into the apks themselves? or is there deeper coding that would need to be changed in order for this to work?
Smart stay and smart alerts I'd like to see portable, if anyone felt so inclined.

Help - Stock TW contact app in a AOSP ROM

Is it possible to bring the stock TW contacts app into any AOSP ROM? I like the benefit of having the latest Android software of an AOSP ROM, but I really dislike the contact app. It is really hard to see with the white background. I have looked all over xsa for a solution. You would think it would be easy as the GMAil 4.2 substitute. I am not sure what files to use.

Have you tried Slim Bean rom? It has all apps inverted and,I believe, the contacts as well. It used to be called the Real Dark Slim addon on but "after 4.2.2 build 2. It's now integrated into the ROM with a toggle." I too hated the white background on contacts. Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I did try Slim in the past. "pre 4.2". I am not sure if the ROM had issues with the graphics or what. It seemed not very sharp after installation. Everything looked fuzzy. I even tried Eclipse ROM. I will figure out something. I just like the look of the stock TW contacts. The app also additional features. At the moment LiquidSmooth has the best 4.2.2 ROM out there.
In general TouchWiz apps cannot be used in AOSP ROMs. On a personal note I loath the TW phone and contacts app. Mainly because you cant swipe between the recently called, favorites, keypad etc.

who knows if the actual stock contact app is actually TW. I just like how it looks. The black background looks better than the white background of AOSP. The stock actually has the same screens where you can move back and forth. I am putting this topic to rest. It is a lost cause. I was going to see if I could replace it using root explorer, but decided against it and it wasnt worth the trouble. Oh well.

It deferentially requires the tw framework. If you want a dark AOSP contacts app search for it. There are lots of inverted stock apps floating around and incorporated into ROMs.

s4 s5 touchwiz rom like on cm11 base or port

as the name says s4.s5 touchwiz for s2p can we do that?
i mean there are a lot of ports of apps from touchwiz roms, but i couldn't find any from s4 or s5,
(seclauncher3, accuweather 2013 or 2014) that works on cm11,
only works some port it's called note 3 launcher(but its seclauncher2 and 3 accuweather apps and services i think old ones).
so i want people to help me to make look like touchwiz rom or port but i think that is impossible to port touchwiz rom from s4/s5 (not with all the features/bloatware.)
i really like cm11 but i would like dialer, messaging, camera, settings etc etc. i saw on here but on i9000 section Touchwiz Fusion Rom,
so that gave me idea but i only found launcher that works and thats not even the newest launcher form touchwiz..
i apologize everyone if this thread is on wrong place i just didn't knew where to put it...
Must be possible, i know s5 rom is ported to s3 mini.
If it works there it should work in our phone cause our hardware is stronger.
Btw wrong topic! Move to SII Plus Android Development
