Is it possible AND safe to put Kit Kat on my TF300T? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does what it says on the tin.
Or should I live with Jelly Bean 4.2 on my TF300T
At the moment my tablet is working fine and dandy. I have only ever rooted my Samsung Ace phone before, and this did not go well. However I did learn shed loads of stuff, saving it from becoming a brick.

I will have my new TF300... advice?

Hi there (sorry for my english)
After my Nexus 7 (returning because of the screen lift and touch problem) and the return of my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" (don't like this tablet) i will have in few days the Asus Transformer TF300.
I've read few post here about problem with the update to Jellybean. But does this update is official? I mean, when i turn on the tablet, does this one indicate me that a update is available and start downloading JellyBean?
I like JB (from the Nexus 7), but the problem that the tablet don't wakeup after sleep or the random reboot... What to do with that?
I don't have the keybord, i've just buy the tablet itself.
Thanks!
yes its official and it is buggy as hell, avoid upgrading and wait for a more stable one

Not sure where you come up with this.. Sure there are some bugs but I have yet to find any more bugs than were already in ics. That's just me though.

What i've read, and what came the most of time, is the lost of WiFi (need to power off and reboot), the «sleep of death» and the random reboot.
Please, does it's real of not?
jb is fine for me with or without the dock, its just as stable as ics
JB is stable.
It has some bugs but ics also had bugs. I also dont have the dock and JB is better than ics on ly tf300

Also, there is a pending firmware update but I am not sure what it is for...I'm guessing its jellybean but after seeing the jelly bean issues thread I am hesistant to download it so I'm curious to know if there is any way to know what the update is for without actually doing it, that little firmware message keeps popping up and its starting to freak me out...the suspense is killing me lol someone please advise

Go to settings - about tablet at the bottom - all info is there. If your android version is anything other than 4.1.1 then that would be why you're getting tagged for the update.

Thanks my current version is 4.0.3...should I update or stay with ics? That thread about the jelly bean issues that many people are having with this tablet have me hesitant to update combined with the fact that once u go JB there is no way to get back to ICS..what do you guys suggest?

Are you wanting to root your tablet? If so, stay on ICS.
I would hold out.

Personally I would stick with ICS for now. I updated my girlfriends tablet to JB and now the backspace on her dock works intermittently.

If you're up for unlocking the thing, then you can try one of the JB ROMs with the option to return to ICS (even stock ICS) later. I've been running JB since July on AOKP or BAKED BlackBean and love it. Both of those boot with the ICS bootloader so you're able to swap back and forth.
I am also in the same boat I'm on 4.0.3 and just got the update notification. I had updated as soon as I got my tablet but I guess that turn out to be the minor update. Now knowing that I am still on ICS. I was curious to know where I can get information about Rooting my tablet. Also if I am on ICS do I need to unlock the bootloaders?

Look in the Dev section for the debugfs method. This method does not require unlocking. This method only works on ICS.

Yea I think I'm going to stick with ics for the time being, is there anyway to stop the firmware update message from popping out or disable it entirely as I would certainly hate to press the install button by mistake when I'm drunk or something lol

I see no reason for it not to work on the TF700 also. I posted the link on the prime forums earlier because it should work there as well.

[Q] Android 4.4 KitKat on Motorola Xoom 1?

Hi...
It is said that Android 4.4 is optimized to work (again) with 512MB of RAM...
Anybody knows if 4.4 is being ported as a Motorola Xoom custom rom?
4.2 is a bit slow in my xoom, my only hope is that 4.4 fixes that, or I will be force to return to 4.0.4 or 4.1, or replace my tablet by a Nexus (and I think that my xoom deserves some extra life, it's just 2 years old!!!).
Thanks.
PS: Reviewing the development subforum I can only see about 4.3, I'm worried that our xoom was abandoned and that my only option would be switching to a Nexus

Its being worked on. It involves repartioning your Xoom and they have a 4.3 running snappy on the new partitions also. Check around the boards a lot of very good reading, research and development still going on for the Xoom. Only way I'm parting with my stingray is if it dies or I do. . and by the way I'm running 4.2.2 right now on mine with larger partitions and its fast and stable.

Hi.
Thanks for answering ...
After a quick look to that link, It seems they're working with Android 4.3... do you mean that's the last version we'll ever get, or maybe after 4.3 they'll go for 4.4? :?
There still working on it. But now there experimenting because once they got over the partition hurdle now they have some serious kernel issues to work on among other things. So as of yet there isnt a 4.4 running on a Xoom yet. There are some very talented driven people working on it so keep your eyes open the Xoom is not dead yet and never will be to people like myself.

- Backup my data.
- Repartition my xoom so that some partitions are bigger than they currently are (first Link ->
- Install 4.4.2

Well you can try that and provide feedback for the dev especially if yours is wingray since the kitkat development is based on Xoom wifi version. At least the repartition part brings you some difference. The ElementalX kernel is also great to try

My Xoom is the European Xoom (Wifi Only, no 3G).
Is that a valid Xoom to bigpart + Android 4.4.2? (and ... is it safe? )

Hello ! No problem with a Xoom baught in France ! Very smooth with this kk rom. I overclock at 1504 and actived ART. You just have tout follow the instructions to install big part and go!. About everything is working but the charging light.
Maybe in the next update!

I am not a specialist but ART is Android Run Time which is a new virtual machine attempt to replace Dalvik. The main difference with ART is that app are compile during installation instead of use. I can't say exactly if it is very quicker on the Xoom but I activate it and it works perfectly.

Why don't you give it a shot? It's more valid than just asking, no offense. 'Faster' is adjective and AFAIK all adjectives are subjective. People might think it is faster, or not if that matters, but you really need to try for yourself to see if it is fast enough for you. Schischu has finished building Kitkat Omnirom for all versions of Xoom though
test
It is true than the best way is to try it. But I can say than this ROM on my Xoom is not laggy. Some I test before were!. So don't worry, follow step by step to repartition and flash and enjoy it!

Received a TF300 looking to Flash a ROM

Hey guys, I just recently received a TF300 from a friend, and I was wondering what kind of rom I can install on this?
I have PA3.99 on my Nexus 4 and that's why I do have some knowledge of this, hoping to inject some life into this tablet.
It looks like this has the current latest firmware from ASUS and running 4.2.1.
Is there a proven ROM for this tablet that is stable? Also is this Tablet capable of running any 4.3 or Kitkat Roms?
Thanks for your help guys. Appreciate it.
Hello! Welcome. Wow, 3.99 is kinda old huh? Anyway. Yes this tablet is capable of running KitKat. I have my tablet on Pacman and its running really well. In order to install pacman, you'll need to unlock the boot loader and flash twrp version x.7 or greater. I can't remember what the x was. But it needs to be one of the newer twrps or you can't flash kk.
I think kk pacman is pretty stable on the nightlies.

wow, great thanks for quick response!
Glad to know I can flash this tablet...thought I'd be stuck with 4.2.
I did some quick reading and I have to match my SKU to something for the latest bootloader?
btw, yea, 3.99 is kind of old..but everytime I think of upgrading..the thought of reinstalling all the apps and stuff just deters me. Do you have an N4? What do you run on it?

Well if you're on 4.2 you won't need to flash the SKU. You're already on the latest boot loader. Well that makes sense. I actually have a Note 3 but whenever I change Roms I use nandroid manager to backup and restore all of my data.
