[Q] How to obtain another phone IMEI? - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I have a situation like this - My girlfriends sister got her cell phone stolen while traveling on the bus a month ago. She gave the IMEI number to the Police, but they still didn't find it. Almost a month later me and my girlfriend received weird calls almost at the same time, i didn't picked it up, she did. The person said he called to the random numbers because he wanted to joke. But we with my girlfriend started to suspect that he wasn't calling to the random numbers, because the calls to me and her was almost at the same time (we don't know if both calls was from him, because it showed that number is unknown to both of us, either way, we're sure it was the same person, because we receive unknown calls very rarely). How can he randomly call to me and my girlfriend almost at the same time?. We started to suspect he has my girlfriends sisters phone. My girlfriend started to chat with him and she provoked him to tell the model of the phone he is using and it was indeed just the same model (Samsung Galaxy Ace) of the phone that was stolen from her sister. We don't think he stole that phone, he just bought it, but the phone wasn't cleared, he found numbers in the address book and that's how he called us both almost at the same time. We want to make sure that we are right and want to get his IMEI number somehow to compare it to the stolen phones and then we would go to the Police if they would match. Is there any way to provoke to install some kind of .apk that would send us his IMEI number without him knowing that? He isn't very smart as much as we got to know him, because he revealed many information without any suspicion.
Thank you.

IMEI Tracking

Just a quick one guys. I am trying to resolve some issues for my wife right now with her new Motorola CLIQ 2.
Her phone was recently stolen from a party, and she is pretty sure that she just saw one of her ex-friends using a phone with the same case and exact same dents and whatnot (she's clumsy!).
I have the box with the IMEI number, we have locked her number so that it can't be used. TMOUS is giving us hell and saying they can't do anything to lock by IMEI or anything. She is trying to get in contact with the guy she thinks has her phone but surprisingly there is no word from him.
I was wondering, don't all GSM phones have to authenticate IMEI numbers whenever they jump on/off a tower? By that logic I feel that TMOUS could track this phone to a position between the towers. Or they could at least tell me if that IMEI is in use! I'm not asking for them to tell me WHO is using it, I understand privacy, but I am just asking if it is in use at the moment.
Thanks for any help.
Matt
For TMO to even check for that the IMEI would have to be reported as stolen and there'd have to be a legal document giving authorization to do a full trace. My dad's phone got taken and I went through the exact same BS, luckilly I could trace it the same night by using my phone to find the BT signal from his and i just yelled "this would be a lot smoother if they'd just turn it in,then the cops wouldn't have to get involved because I know where the phone is",the next morning it was "mysteriously" in the mailbox but yeah, if you have the IMEI and Serial numbers you should report it to the cops and HOUND them to get it tracked, if you have that info there's no reason they shouldn't be able to find it, but most police forces are too lazy to do so and just wait for the person to stop asking. If/when you get the phone back you'll need to call the cops and tell them you have it back in your possession so they can remove the numbers from the blacklist and the phone will be operable LEGALLY again.
different nations
in italy is more different
if forget / stoled your phone
you call your operator and tell him your IMEI and operator block the phone
but the real is if the "thief" change IMEI is possible use phone with onother SIM
the police, is not tracking the phone because is a hight cost

[Q] Can't text since porting my number

I recently left Orange (UK) and went with Virgin for a month and now I'm back with Orange. Each time I took my number with me except this time something has gone wrong. Ever since my porting day (Monday) I haven't been able to send a text, yet, I can make/receive calls, use data and even receive texts.
I originally thought my accidental wiping of the SMSC was the cause of the problem but having restored that (using this and asking them to give me a update text) it seems it was just a coincidence (although, I'm not convinced).
I have spoken to Orange four times this week and on Tuesday I was told that Virgin had not properly released my number and that it would be up to the porting department. Said department rang me the following day (Wednesday) and said that my number would properly port by midnight that night (i.e. by now).
I rang again today and Orange said Virgin had still not released 'the files' regarding my number and that it would be done by midnight. I poliletely told the lady that I didn't believe her and she's promised to ring me back tomorrow after it has been sorted.
To me, this all sounds a bit fishy. I don't understand how I am able to make/receive calls, etc. and just not send texts. Am I right to be suspicious? Has anybody experienced any similar problem? Does it sound plausible? Maybe I'm being too cynical but I'm getting sick of spending half an hour a day on the phone to them and still not being able to use my brand new phone how I'd like!
Thank you for your time and I hope someone can cheer me up!
P.S. For the record I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and I have tried a different sim in the phone which worked and my Orange sim in a different phone which didn't work. When a text fails to send I get no error whatsoever, just 'Message failed to send, retry?'.
I work for O2 & sometimes it has been known to happen. When you move a number by using a PAC Code, it moves the number but as there is no number on the account... It then closes/disconnects the account.
If there is a Porting problem, the Customer Service Adviser should have a chat with the Help Desk or Tech team as they can try and sort it. However, sometimes we advise customers to talk to there previous network provider as the port in completes correctly with us but not with them.
Hope that helps?
you really help me

Thanks for your reply. They kept promising me it'll 'be done by midnight' on various days and obviously it hasn't. They keep saying this is Virgin's fault. Do you think it is Virgin's fault and that I could achieve anything if I rang them up (which I dread, I haven't liked their call centres)? If so, what would I say?
Cheers, Rowan.
Edit: I just rang them up again and they now say the porting completed and they still weren't sure so are sending me a new simcard. Fingers crossed!

NET10: Tried to transfer number WEIRD things happened

Hello everyone.
I tried to transfer my NET10 number to a Huawei Ascend mate 2 and now neither phone works.
The full story is: I went through the process of transferring my line (typed both MEIDs and phone number)
A few hours later my old phone still worked but I noticed a signal on my mate. There was no data connection yet obviously. I texted my old phone from my new phone and I noticed that there was a new number.
A few hours later the service to my old phone was cut off. I put in the correct APN and Finally! 4G LTE! My new phone still had a new number though; not the one I wanted to be transferred.
A few hours after that the service was disconnected from my new phone as well! I tried to call the new number that previously worked and it doesn't even exist now.
I called customer support and he wasn't able to figure out the problem. He said he'd call back but never did. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem? I've never heard of anything like this.
Thanks for reading this whole thing, Chris
It has to be fixed on their end. Nothing can be done here
Yeah, after two calls to customer service, they told me that they would over-night me a new sim card.
It's been three days and now I have to wait over the weekend. I don't expect it to arrive Monday either honestly.
I've always been satisfied with net10's service, but GOD HELP YOU if you need any sort of assistance. I should have just took the hit and created a new number. Jeese.
I'll be honest that is what I do and I change my number a few times a year. Even when I worked for ATT I advised people just to get a new number. Because in the end it is the carriers choice if they want to let the number go and can cause issues

My phone was stolen IMEI number changed. Need some info.

Need some advice. My VZ note 3 was stolen. I was fortunate enough that they thief turned it on I guess to show the shady phone shop that it works. My eset software was able to get pictures GPS location etc. I have some friends on the local PD and they were able to make an arrest and get my phone back but this took about a week. Just got my phone back to day and was told that they ZAPPED it and probably would no longer work with VZ. So before I monkey around with VZ I did see the phones IMEI is not what matches the stickers and paperwork.
So my question is 2 parts. Since the phone was obviously reflashed with a different IMEI if this would work on VZ is there any issue with spyware etc.
2. I called VZ and Samsung and they are dumb as a box of rocks and said changing the IMEI was impossible and their was no way to change it back. Can it be flashed back. Thanks
Is it against the rule to discuss changing imei in xda? Sad to ear and really hope you find a way.
Bought a phone that the imei was changed, when I tried to install cerberus, cerberus told me the phone was lock to another account. So that might be an issue, Google the imei, you might not like what result it gets you.

My phone got stolen and the police says there is no way to find it

Hi, so my phone got stolen about year and a half ago and now I got a letter from the police saying that they are canceling the case because they can't tell who is the owner of the phone now. They told us that a sim card was activated on the phone, but they cannot say who is the owner of the sim. Also they found the person who stole my phone and he just told them that he found it and then sold it to another guy who the police found too, but he sold it to an unidentified person. I have tried to track my phone using find my android, but looks like the phone was restarted to factory settings immediately, because the last day it was connected to a network with my google account in it was the day it was stolen. I tried calling the phone when I saw that it is not where I put it, but it was turned off. We searched the whole school, but it was nowhere to be found, because it was stolen. That is the whole story. I am sure that there is a way to track it, but the police just don't want to waist their time. They aren't really doing any work, but there is nothing that I can do to convince them to find my phone. So I am turning to you guys. I have the box of my phone and the IMEI number. Is there a way to track it using the IMEI or something else?

Yes, there is an IMEI tracking app in the playstore that has been known to work.
If they have changed the IMEI, this won't help you.
I'd say, cut your losses and move on, take it as a lesson learned and be more careful with your next device.
I keep my device with me at all times, I've never had a device stolen from me and I've never lost my devices. I've owned dozens.
