bad battery life - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
i bought mine N5 about a week ago and i have noticed a bad battery life. Usually i get about 2-3 hours a screen time with brightness 20%. It might be a stubid question, but is there maybe possible to recalibrate battery?? Also at the moment i am using Cataclysm rom. Any suggestions?

Did you use search and read the other hundred battery threads?

Turn off Google now. Use greenify and also brick kernel. I get around 3+ hours with this set up. And also to turn off the "OK Google" option.

It is funny how noobs always feel they should start a "bombastic" thread trying to blame it on the phone.

Wtf battery?? Make up your mind.

Ok so this is a first.. I just watched my battery jump from 69 to 41 when I unplugged it. Plugged it back in and then it jumped to 56, unplugged and then 42, now its at 54.
What.. the.. eff..
Any ideas? Running faux rom, oc at 1.2 Max.
Blame the battery drivers, can't fix it.
I'm guessing you don't read. If you did you would know lg ****ed up the battery drivers and every rom for this device has Incorrect battery readings. Reboot phone for correct battery readings

Hey jackass, cut the useless sarcastic comments. Its people like you that need to stay the hell away from this forum. This is a Q&A area. Maybe you failed to read before entering.
But anyway. As I continue, I have never seen a jump like that is all. I know the drivers are useless, but its usually just a 1-3% decrease. Not a massive jump like I explained.
Was just trying to see if anyone saw this perticular type of problem.
Just wiped battstats, we'll see if that fixes it.
Wiping won't fix it. There is no fix until LG releases better battery drivers.
Lucky you, my phone doesn't like to charge when it's completely off anymore. Shut it off with 45%, put it into the charger overnight, wake up in the morning... hey look my phone is on 45% still.
Heh, i guess I don't mind charging it while on, but that annoys me

Happened to me a couple of times. Specially when the phone has died, I plug it in, come back in a few hours. Still at 4%!!
That was with both stock and Faux.

all gave explanation to battery reading problem and all i used is the search button
Actually suprah, none of those explained the jump that I mentioned. What I explained was quite specific. I understand the drivers are not communicating properly, I'm pretty sure everyone knows that. But I haven't seen a jump from such extremes within 30 seconds. Find me a post on that.
Otherwise your just an egocentric prick that has no useful insight and only feels the need to ***** and moan. You just might need to stay away from q&a all together.

Tmobile battery explanation

Thought you guys would get a LOL out of this... on my 3rd battery from tmobile trying to convince them to just send me a new phone.. told the rep it dies in 4 hours of idle time... His excuse "well that's because the G2x is a very powerful phone that does a lot of things so 4 hours is about normal." bahahaha nice try. new phone arrives tuesday.

I had the same problem until I flashed a Rom and Kernel and now have 8hrs with Moderate use...
Rooted with cm7, tried battery calibration, turned off everything, no change.. Really think the phone is faulty

Talked to them about this today. I have been losing about 20% an hour while plugged into USB (while using the phone). They just read the steps the computer shows them.
First I was told that I need a task manager to kill apps I am not running. I was also told if I have a lot of apps that could cause this too. I mentioned that apps in memory aren't using the processor, and therefore not causing battery drain. I was then informed that having a lot of apps could cause the phone to run slowly. I mentioned I wasn't having issues with the phone running slow, but an issue with battery drain. They then told me that the processor has to work harder when there are stalls due to having many apps. I then asked why there was so much memory on the phone for apps, and mentioned that working in development myself, have no idea how this could be. There was no more discussion about this.
I was then asked how much I charge my phone. I said I charge it over night to full, and then while I am using at my desk I usually have it plugged in to the computer by USB when I use the phone, which equals to about half to 75% of the work day. I was told this was too much and there was no response when I mentioned again that this was during use and it was still draining. My only other option was to let the phone die.
A few more things to check and they finally said they were going to send out a new one, but that they were required to go through those trouble shooting steps first. At that point it is obvious they repeat what they are told.

More people need to emphasis this. I'm so very tired of 'tech support' telling folks to use task managers and killers on Android.
so far running cm7 and now cm7 xboarder v1.0.1, I am getting anywhere from 17-23 hours of battery life on a daily basis. I am texting throughout the day, regular phone calls with at least a 45 min call every noight and regular pandora use for around 5 hours a day. After rooting, my battery life tripled and then cm7 and its variants are making it even better. just my 2 cents
X boarder?

id say my battery life is pretty good, cm7 RC1 and fauxs kernel. lasts me all day maybe more. moderate use too.
Ehh whenever im at the t-mobile store and they're always speaking nonsense, complete idiots.
I spoke to an escalation Rep at LG and she told me LG is okay with 25% drain an hour. Ha! L

My pet theory concerns the charger. Did a battery swap and still had issues. This was the week the phone was released. Started using my hd2 chargers and have had zero issues since. In reality there are probably several issues, but this is what has worked for me.
make sure you guys turn off led notifications...kills the battery in no time
Any idea how to turn it off? Looked everywhere for that setting

Get a busy number NEX5 won't hang up

Am I the only one experiencing this?
I mess with it and it usually finally quits and a couple of times had to turn phone off and back on to get it to stop giving busy signal.
If you mean like when you call a number and get a busy signal and hit end call it'll say call ending and it'll be greyed out but the call is still in progress, yes. It was very strange and I thought it was just me.

I thought it was just me too. Are you both on custom roms / kernels?

This happened to me too, had to wait for it to end by itself. I'm completely stock, not rooted no nothing. Probably a 4.4 bug?

I am completely stock. This is extremely annoying making the phone unusable whenever you dial a busy number. I wonder if other phones on 4.4 have this as a bug or if it is in the dialer program of the N5 OR hardware..

On the way home from work everyday, the local radio station does a giveaway that I try to win. So, needless to say, I get at least 5 busy signals a day and never had a problem hanging up.

It happens everytime with me.
I wonder if the service has anything to do with it. I am on straight talk.
The N5 doesn't do handle 'rejection' very well, huh?
Definately happened the same to me. Bootloader wasn't even unlocked yet. I thought "oh great, LG modems".

Ah, OK, so it is either 4.4 pr the hardware. Only I wonder why it is not universal with everyone - that is weird.
I've only had this happen one time, but it wasn't with a busy signal, but with someone's voicemail. I'm wondering if it's a time-based issue, which happens if you hang up at just the right time after a call is put through (or sent to "busy").

It happens to me with every "busy" signal. I cannot reproduce it on answered call, if I try to hang up immediately.

Bone stock on AT&T. Numerous times with a busy signal and I believe a few other times when it wasn't a busy signal, voice-mail maybe.
LOL, thought it was just me. Happened 2x's and had to reboot the phone. I'm rooted, stock ROM and recovery.
I also have this problem, reproducible every time, for busy numbers and non-active/incorrect numbers.
Phone is locked, stock and unrooted.
Restarting the phone doesn't make a difference, neither does clearing Google Play Store data (as suggested here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2515543), nor clearing app data of Google Dialer.
I spent 15 min yesterday wasting time due to this. Unacceptable in a phone at any price point. Sure hope they fix it with software but it could be a hardware problem.
This issue is fixed with the 4.4.1 update.
Woohoo!!! This issue is resolved with the 4.4.1 update...get it now!!!

Good idea to shut down phone?

Hey everyone, so I was randomly checking my phone stats and realized I haven't turned off my phone in over a week. I know it's bad to keep laptops always on but does anyone know if it would be the same for a phone, more specifically the N5? Do you guys usually reboot once in a while. I know I read somewhere that people reboot it every morning but does that really make a difference in the phone's life?
Hi,
A smartphone is made to be used 24/24 hours, no need to power OFF or reboot it once a day (why every morning?)...
If you encounter some slow down after, for example, one or two weeks without a reboot, then yes you can reboot it.
Use your N5 as normal, as your use, if you don't need to reboot it so don't reboot it (unless some apps or mods need it obviously), no difference for your phone's life (and even about what?)... Do not worry about things like this. It's just my opinion.
It's usually a good idea to reboot once in a while. Sometimes apps won't update until you do a reboot, for example. I don't know of it's a matter of Google Play Services needing to refresh itself or something, but it's definitely a weird little quirk that I've noticed.
Thanks guys. I guess I was just comparing it to other devices that should be turned off when not in use and figured I ask if anyone had some input.
I usually reboot at least once a week. That should suffice

Looking for 4.4 KitKat software with Knock Code

Hi guys.
Some two months ago, I got the AT&T update which destroyed the battery life on this phone. Small tasks make it turn warm quickly and it lags a lot.
Ex: on the first KK update, my G2 on standby could stay at 100% for several hours. Now with this newest update, my G2 on standby stays at 100% for about an hour or so.
Does anyone know how to return to the very first KitKat update that added Knock Code to the G2? I can't stand the barely one-day battery life anymore.
