[Q] [QQ]POLL - Are you happy with the battery life - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I am reading a lot of different comments in the battery discussion thread. Its hard to tell how many people are happy and how many
hate the battery life. Some people have their phones on airplane mode to show of the lengevity and it really throws me off. Please vote
on the poll and make this simple. Do not post any screenshots or usage just a simple yes or no. Thanks Guys and Gals!

Says im not allowed to vote in the poll. Very happy with battery life

I'm quite satisfied with the battery life.
It's my first Android phone and I had three iPhones. I don't find any of iPhones lasted longer than this phone.

My buddy is coming from an iPhone 4, and so far he hates everything about it as much as I try to change his mind. He is more concerned with the screen-off battery consumption than anything. He swears up and down that if his screen is off 95% of the time (just quick reads of email/sms) then his iPhone 4 will easily last 3 full days while notifying him of sms/email/im/facebook/etc. I don't see how that's possible. He says all the time he would put down the iPhone at night on the 5% warning, NOT charge it over night, and it would always be alive for the alarm in the morning (without disabling any syncing). I don't see how that's possible. He basically believes that phones should not take hardly any battery when their screen is off, and he swears up and down that his iPhone 4 never did. His N5 loses about 6% an hour with the screen off, meaning he has to have over 40% battery for his phone to last through his sleep (he refuses to charge it while sleeping and says he never had to with the iPhone).
Unfortunately GSam battery monitor does not work in KitKat. Can someone recommend a way to get to the bottom of his battery issues (I have already turned off LTE, Location Tracking, auto-brightness, and using ART instead of Dalvik). ...or is 17hours _standby_ all you can expect from this phone?
The ad says: Standby time up to 300 hours†
†Standby time tests used default settings with LTE on and Wi-Fi connected to a test access point. Wi-Fi internet tests had Airplane Mode on with Wi-Fi connected to a test access point, while loading three popular websites cached on a local server. The Nexus 5 loaded a page, waited 40 seconds, and then loaded a page from the next site.
Did he just get a bad one that needs returning?

get betterbatterystats to monitor his wakelocks, 6% per hr drains is BAD, it should be like at most 1% per hour
maybe has location and all syncs enabled?
mine only loses like 6% the whole night, i have like 97% deep sleep at least when screen is off

Check the battery stats in settings. There is a known issue with Google Play Services and wake locks. A reboot usually solves it temporarily.
I put my N5 into airplane mode before I go to bed. No annoying notifications and less drain (no cellular paging). I have verified several nights that I lose 1% battery over 8 hours in airplane mode.

Auto syncs off. Constant account syncing is what drains the most battery when the screen is off.

These solutions unfortunately do not work:
1) BetterBatteryStats requires root to give any useful info. He does not really want to root, but would if he could do it without erasing everything (not fond of backup/restore either, but if you can FULLY backup without root [or get root without erasing so no backup is necessary] then I could get him to let me root it). Probably off-topic, so I will continue to research no-wipe root solutions (keep seeing it referenced with no links)
2) Turning off sync or going in to air-plane mode will not do. He wants an instant notification for any communication-event 24/7 just like his iPhone4 gave him, and I for one cannot blame him, as my HTC One does for me without killing the battery (and thanks to researching this for him, I now have really long battery [even with all notifications] by using Greenify - but he doesn't since he doesn't have root yet).
Number 1 above (and/or Greenify) is the correct solution, I just need to root it first. Hard to do on someone else's phone though... but I hate that he so hates his first Android Experience on the N5 (largely due to the bad battery, and also do to the fact he is scared to root it or even install a custom launcher).
Anyway, thanks for the help (and PM me if you have something to say that is not battery-life related... I'm not trying to thread-hijack)

[OBSOLETE] Recalibrating Your Battery Stats...

***
Due to further information from both the hardware and OS side of the house, it has been determined that this process is completely unnecessary for the Captivate.
You may still follow this procedure if you like or if it makes you feel good.
Good luck and God bless.
***
So, you are having trouble with your battery seemingly draining too quickly, especially after having flashed many ROMs/Kernels/etc...
It is possible that the problem (or part of the problem) is not necessarily the phone using too much power, but rather the phone not really knowing how much power you have left, or where 100% or 0% really are. If this is the case for you, you should see some results from doing the following:
(Do at your own risk. If your phone runs away and joins the circus I am not responsible)
1. Connect the phone to the charger with the phone powered on, and allow the phone to charge until it shows 100%
2. Disconnect the phone from the charger, and power it off.
3. Reconnect the phone to the charger with the phone powered off, and allow the phone to charge until the battery indicator shows 100% (you can use vol-up/vol-down to make the indicator come back up when the screen goes to sleep).
4. Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on.
5. Use the phone as normal until it shuts off, then plug it in, turn it on and use as normal, charging whenever you like.
You should only need to use this sequence one time.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, I had it in a text file on my computer from a little while back, and was going to bump the topic but I couldn't find it anymore.
This may have to be done again after ROMs and stuff, so either bookmark this post, or copy-paste it into a document on your computer you can refer back to later.
Also, this give creedence to the age-old, often-debated theory that you should give your battery a full charge before turning on your phone for the first time...
It makes me sick when we have to do all this crap.

Sorry, it's a price we pay for messing with the software/firmware on the phone.
Also, if people did an actual full charge before using their phone for the first time, there would probably be fewer "Battery Life Sucks" threads...
Dont forget to boot into recovery after you full charged (adb reboot recovery or Power off the phone and then hold the volume up + Volume down + the power key. When it goes black the 2nd time release the power button and keep holding the volume buttons.) wipe stats Clockworkmod recovery -> advanced -> wipe battery stats.
Question for ya's.when I got this phone the att dude just turned it on and gave it to me without allowing for a full charge.should I go back slap him in the face and get a new battery and fully charge it before first use, cause its almost been two weeks and my batt life still seems kinda poor to me.
Also if I do that should I unroot and restore the att apps or will they not notice or bother to check that

Recalibrating may help slightly, but the Captivate just has a ****ty battery life. Read here, it was the worst in the entire test. No coincidence, the S-AMOLED's came in last in battery life and the S-LCD's came in first.

Without any details of how that test was performed, the results are meaningless.
I get battery life as good as my old iphone with the captivate. I wish it was better but it seems very competitive to me.

Something doesn't make sense since the Epic 4G has better battery life than the Captivate. Me thinks they didn't test these properly.

I can't even come close to the same battery life on this captivate as I did with my old iphone. I have to charge this phone every single night, where with my iphone I only had to charge it 2 or 3 times per week. I take it off charge every morning and by 10pm its down to around 20%. My old iphone I could go 2-3 days, and I do the same things on both phones. Checking facebook and twitter, playing a little bit of kingdoms live, a little websurfing, and checking emails, as they come in.
Same usage and 1/2 to 1/3 of the same battery life. Not so good.
Also, you cant say the test was meaningless because they dont tell you how they tested it. As long as they ran the same test on all the phones then a direct comparison of battery life is very legitimate and meaningful. But I agree, I would like to know what their testing methods are.

By old iPhone, do you mean 1st gen EDGE only iPhone? If that's the case, you can disable 3G on Captivate and get similar battery life.

If you go to the actual Laptop magazine post it explains
The test itself is fairly simple. Avram, our tireless Web director, modified the LAPTOP Battery Test we use for notebooks, and created an Android App that does much the same thing: It opens the phone’s Web browser to one of 60 popular Web sites, remains there for 60 seconds, closes the browser, then reopens the browser to next Web site on the list. It does so until the phone’s battery dies, all while recording the time elapsed.
Here’s how we set up the phones before we tested them:
First, we download My Settings and Advanced Task Killer, two free apps that are useful regardless.
Then, we open My Settings, and do the following:
Turn screen brightness to 40%, and turn off auto brightness.
Turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS location, cell location, and auto sync.
Deactivate screen timeout; that is, make sure the screen stays on indefinitely.
In the Web browser, we turn off Flash support and plug-ins.
We placed the phone in an area that was receiving at least 4 bars of service.
http://blog.laptopmag.com/android-battery-test-reveals-droid-x-lasts-longest-amoled-handsets-trail
Sounds about right to me although I dont think I could get 4.43 hours web. Most screen usaged I have gotten is up in the 3hour range.
I've done this on my captivate.. and I think it made it a little worse..
to be honest.. just leave it be and charge when you can.. lol hope for the best!
maybe other people will have better luck..
Many people also seem to have success with fully discharging their battery before charging it again for the first 2-3 times. Seems the battery learns its 'boundaries'. Many are reporting 20-30 hours after that with moderate usage.

I think that turning all of the screens to 40% brightness invalidates the results. To equal the playing field, the screens should be set to equal luminance.
My battery meter has been flashing 0 for 10 minutes now. Should I be worried? Should I return my phone? True story.

[Q] Help with battery usage / drain, how to increase battery life

Ive searched around and this seems to be a common issue, I tried the factory reset even the htc battery conditioning where you charge fully turn off then another hour back on for 2min off again and charge for another hour with no positive results, I read online some ppl are getting -1/-2 mah an hour I have never seen single digit in my phone.
I included screenshots of my battery drain even adjusted the app to read 1500mah, anything else i missed in settings? Also went into phone information in the Tests menu set it to auto instead of GSM, also with SetCPU I tried underclocking with little change to mah usage, running out of ideas...
Currently its rooted with GingerBreak, and CM7 with #48 nightly installed, any help would definitely be appreciated.
How many hours is your phone lasting on a single charge?
Lately between 5-7hrs one had about 8 and half hours a handful of times
it's true that if you constantly use the phone nonstop like watching youtube, browsing, playing games, etc. the battery won't last longer than 4 hours without getting an extended battery, heck just using moderateley the battery will be about 50% by the end of an 8 hour workshift, but what I found that will extend the battery life with moderate use are these...
1. Turn of wifi, bluetooth, gps, sync. (contrary to what ppl say on this forum I find that wifi eats way more battery than being on 4G)
2 Disable background data. (The only thing I actually need background data checked is to use the android market or maps when I need to, with it off it's a huge battery saver)
3 In settings choose to use only 2G (This will increase battery life 4x and Tmobile 2G is pretty fast, just like 3G)
4 Download Opera Mini (Since you'll be using 2G to save battery you'll want to surf the web with a browser that is super fast using slow connections, and Opera mini is second to none. You can always turn on 4G when you want to have fast video streaming but then you eat alot of battery again.)
5. Install Auto Airplane Mode (you can turn auto airplane mode on when you're not gonna be expecting calls such as at work or when you don't want to be disturbed, hell, if you just want to save as much battery as possible. Since Auto airplane mode disables the radio and data completey which is the number 1 cause of battery bleed with it on from a full charge unplugged you'll still have a 100% when you wake up your phone after a day.)
6 Install juice defender (free is fine)
7 Don't use Lookout Antivirus (I've found Lookout drains the battery quick, if you want an antivirus that doesn't eat the battery try AVG. I prefer AVG because I notice it does not drain my battery like Lookout.)
This has made my phone last more than a day on stock battery with moderate to light use. If I think of more tweaks I'll add later
This is ridiculous. If you have to turn off all those features, then don't even bother getting a smartphone.
My tips are:
1- Set brightness to auto.
2- Avoid Skype and other apps that usually appear as On going on the status bar.
3- Get rid of any task killer. They actually make the battery life worse. Don't worry about tasks running in the background, the OS takes care of them. If you wanna quit an app, try to look for a quit button by pressing the settings button when the app is on the foreground. Otherwise, just press the back button below the screen until you get back to the home screen (for some reason this seems more efficient than just pressing the home button.)
4- If you don't use IMs, get juice defender and set it to disable data when screen is off. It will turn data automatically on once you turn the screen on by pressing the lock button on the top of your device. Note that this is different compared to auto airplane mode, with Juice Defender you can still receive phone calls and text messages when the screen is off.
Last but not least, consider purchasing an extra battery and/or car charger.
Mine usually lasts for about 12 hours with moderate to high use. Almost all smartphones have short battery life if used heavily.

Yea that's awful. Do you by chance have your brightness set extremely high? And how is the cell coverage where you usually use your phone?
I think all of the advice above is valid and will save your battery. The question is to what extreme do you want to go? I tend to agree with donatello88 that there comes a point when you get so paranoid about battery life that you may as well not have a smartphone because you've turned off most of its features.
Get rid of any task killers, battery monitors, etc. They are simply churning thru clock cycles and that uses more battery. Set email, Facebook, etc to check for updates less frequently. Either use auto brightness or manually set your brightness to about 25-30%. That should b bright enough for everyday use unless your in bright sunlight a lot. Use juice defender if you like. And be wary of antivirus apps. I've heard some can suck ur battery dry.
If you do those simple things and are still getting only 5-6 hours then I'd be taking it back to T-Mobile ... unless of course you're on your phone without ceasing. In that case, what can you expect? Lol
Ok with the tips I just mentioned above, I got a chance to put it to real world test. I caught the bus to my son's grad ceremony and reached there at 4pm ceremony didn't start till 6pm so those 2 hours just surfing the web reading articles and forums I was down to 90% battery. Didn't know how long the ceremony was gonna be so called my sister on video chat using tango and spoke to her for about 20 minutes. Did some more browsing using opera mini set to only use 2g for another 2 hours, my don came out, I took some pics and video of him turned on 4g to video chat again with my duster for about 5 minutes, and after 4 non stop hours of consecutive use with screen on, I'm now at 71% battery life. I'm at the bus stop now on my 12 mile commute home and I'm confident the battery will give me more entertainment until I get home. Awesome! You don't have to believe me, just try out my tweaks and you'll be amazed.
Everyone thanks for all of the help and tips, today was the first day I saw 10hrs+(included screenshots), I had my screen on auto and after some reading saw that with CM7 it doesnt work well so I have changed it down to 20-40% depending on where I am, turned off background/auto sync only turn it on when I need it and uninstalled the app killer I was using also changed a few of the SetCPU profiles.
Im not really a heavy user just wondering if having 3email accounts set to update every hour would be a battery drain too? I mostly text/email during the day and talk about 1-2hrs depending how busy I am at work.
Again I thank everyone for pointing me in the right direction...unfortunately at home I have 1bar to none for service so I do depend on Wifi calling which im sure drains more juice, also at work since it in a high rise not too much cell signal so wifi on most of the day...

Hello risho,
I was having the same kind of battery life... After 3 months of research, I collected all valuable tips.
"Valuable tips" means: tips that do not need constant involvement from your side (you don't need to go switch on/off things, etc..) and also that leave you with a very functional phone (you have location when you need it, you have e-mails flowing regularly enough, etc...)!
With these tips, I am now lasting from 6am to 11pm and at 11pm, remaining battery is 10% at least!
Go and check my thread: [Ultimate GUIDE] Increase your battery life on Android!
Enjoy!

I think I solved the ICS fast battery drain... simple solution

I have a Galaxy Note and updated to ICS about a month ago....
Like many of you I also experienced fast battery drain, around 10% or more per hour, without usage. even more when I use it. 5 hours with moderate usage.
I am on unlimited data plan so 4G is always on.
I also tried fully charging the phone before going to bed at 11pm, woke up at 6am and battery already at 20+%, that's when I was sleeping, no use at all.
For a month, I have been charging my phone 2x a day!
I was very frustrated and wanted to go back to GB.
I was researching for weeks for the solution (also, checking for ICS updates almost everyday, waiting to see if Android had found a solution already), no one seemed to have a concrete solution, some suggest resetting, formatting etc.
These were so complicated for me I didn't even dream of doing them.
3 days ago, I accidentally switched off my 4G connection.
I didn't realize that the connection was off..
I was happy to see my battery charge was still at 98% after an hour, after 2 hours, light usage 95%.
"What's happening?"
Then I saw that my 4G was off.
Now, I was thinking 4G connection was the culprit... but I wanted to explore more and see if there was an app that could be causing this....
I checked my apps that used data and nothing was on, then I checked my sync settings, This is where I found out that I had so many accounts that had SYNC ON! Twitter, facebook, gmail, samsung e-mail etc.
So, I tried an experiment.... I stopped SYNCING everything.
It worked!
For one day, maybe 12hrs. (light usage with 4G connection on, just light usage, I checked my gmail by using the refresh button) 75% left on the battery!!! Wow!!
Then I thought "come on...gmail and android? Same owner/company right? I'm going to try to turn ON the GMAIL SYNC, I'm sure there won't be a problem"
I was right!!!
Now on my second day with 4G connection ON, Sync Gmail ON, medium usage, maybe 20-30min of phone calls, 30 or more texts, email and around 10 minutes of internet surfing.
9 hours unplugged and battery only at 70%!!!
I am very happy!
Oh, last night, I think only about 8-10% of battery was used (6 or 7 hours of sleep only 8-10% used....) nice!
For those who have not tried it yet... please try it... I hope it also works for you.
I just wanted to share my experience and hopefully help others that are, i'm sure, also already so frustrated with ICS.
I apologize for the long post.
Cheers!
so in other words disabling sync for apps that use networks poorly, over a high power useage radio.
its not really a solution, more of avoiding the problem . I know sync falls under android os in the data usage. which means to disable its bg data disables it all, so the real solution is to apply bg data restrictions to sync list as well to cover all ways of data access.
evidence of this is that Facebook ignores bg data restrictions( no big surprise there)
I think there is something wrong with my twitter app?
maybe I changed my password in my home page but did not change it in my twitter app and the app kept on trying and trying to log in but can't, maybe this caused the fast battery drain?
I didn't check it yet, maybe one of these days, but now, I'm happy... I really don't need to sync twitter all the time anyway.
Guys, check your accounts and sync... let us know what happens.
OLD NEWS.
Try this. My experience is on the AT&T Skyrocket, but from the research I've done both the Skyrocket and Note have the same problem. It's probably your charger.

You have CPU Spy, so run this test to rule one thing out:
1) Charge your phone overnight.
2) When you wake up in the morning, pull it from the charger and reset the timers in CPU Spy.
3) Let the phone sit idle for a few minutes with the screen off.
4) Refresh the timers in CPU Spy.
If your phone spent significant time at 384 mhz during that idle time and none in Deep Sleep, it's your charger. If it's deep sleeping, it's not your charger (do you use more than one charger?) To further verify the problem, restart your phone, let it sit idle for a few minutes, and check CPU Spy to see if it went into deep sleep after you restarted.
I have a couple of chargers that cause my phone to never deep sleep after I charge with them. The thing that remedies it is restarting the phone or plugging in to a "working" charger. It's a know issue, there's a dedicated thread in the Note forum where someone pinpoints the issue for the Note.
I researched a lot about battery problems on this phone, so list more specifics (do you always use the same charger, charge to full, apps, widgets, etc) and I'd be glad to help. Also, when you take a screen shot of your battery life like you did, take one of your screen on time as well. Since that's your primary drain, it's a good indicator of how your battery life is. 8 hours of battery life sucks, but it's really good if 4 hours is with the screen on.
EDIT: Here's the link to a VERY informative thread on the issue for the Note: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1519084
And one more EDIT, with a workaround: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1516565

And has worked for most Android versions.
wow.
the more stuff you have 'on' on your phone, the more battery it will use. hmmm. Do you leave GPS on when your inside a building also?
I think syncing should not be put on auto. Unless on necessary apps like email. And... email only? Facebook and what not social app, keeping track on website when you want to is prolly sufficient. Unnecessary background data mining will without doubt drain the battery.
I will PM all senior mods here on xda and suggest you for 'Elite Developer'...you deserved it like noone else
This is not development and should not be posted in a development forum.
Moved to general.

Shocked at the great battery life on my ATT S4

I have to say I am very very impressed with the battery life I am getting out of my brand new S4 from ATT.
I bought it Monday, and Tuesday was my first full day using it, these were my stats at 9:00pm, after being unplugged off the charger from the morning. 15h 44m with 42% battery left, and 3h 22m On Screen time. That just blows me away, and I was not expecting that whatsoever. I am coming from a Nexus 4 that was rooted with a battery friendly kernel, and that phone would maybe do 4h On Screen time, and be dead in 12 to 14 hours. based off these result, I can expect maybe 5.5h to 6h On Screen time total ?
We'll see how today goes, because I just can't believe those stats above, seems like a freak one time thing to get such good battery life.
All I did was Root the phone, and kept the stock OS on it. Rooting allowed me to install Greenify and DroidWall, Root Explorer and AdAway, my favorite apps. Greenify I used to stop a lot of functions from running in the background, DroidWall lets me pick which apps to never connect over WiFi and 3G/4G network, and AdAway stops the adds of course
I also have sync off on my most things, and any apps refreshing set longer, to like 3hour refresh. I keep screen locked at 50% brightness, and 30 second time off. GPS and Bluetooth off, location finder off.
I also used Root Explorer to delete a sh!t ton of ATT and Samsung .apk's in the system file. I couldn't believe how many items I deleted using Root Explorer, maybe too many LOL Seriously must have been like 30 or 40 .apk's I deleted.
So is it this phone, just much better on battery than I thought, or a combination of the way I set my phone up, by deleting lots of .apk's, and using Greenify and Droidwall ?
Now 3 full days with the phone, each night after 15 hours off the charger, I still have 35% to 40% battery left, and typically used 3.5h On Screen time at that point. And majority of it on the 4G network, just a few hours out of 15 on WiFi.
I am shocked getting this kind of battery life, totally unexpected.

Thanks for the feedback!
I would say this is pretty good battery life . I should be able to get 5.5h to 6h On Screen time on this phone. That's nearly 50% better than my Nexus 4. No way I would trade this phone in for the Nexus 5 only having a fixed 2,300mAh battery.
Only other phone coming out I would upgrade to is the Galaxy S5 due out in 4 months in February, with metal body like the HTC One and iPhone...the next gen Snapdragon 1,000 processor...a 2,800-3,000mAh battery...4GB RAM...all new screen technology, no longer AMOLED...and redesigned Touchwiz, based off Android 4.4 Kit Kat.
I was on the 4G LTE network majority of the time, only on WiFi a few hours.

that's Pretty good battery life I must say myself, but by turning off all those features you're defeating the whole purpose
of having a smartphone. with all those features not being usable you might as well own a razer flip phone
I have bt,location, and all those fun gadgets on and still get a good 12 hrs up time and I use my phone too
I'd like to know what you get with your phone loaded up with all the features enabled, thanks
I just swapped batteries after 51 hours. Over 3 hours of screen time, 90% of which was while using LTE. Other than that there was about 10 hours of LTE standby, 2.5 hours of Airplane mode and the rest WIFI. I use Greenify like the OP, but I use Tasker to enable Bluetooth and GPS when I leave my house and disable it when I return home. I leave my brightness on auto and sync on.
When I was connected to WIFI at home I would get crushed by WIFI related wakelocks, but using a network logger I was able to eliminate the causes, most of them were related to my iMac constantly sending out random packets to everything on my network. Other than that I found Google Now was a huge cause of background web traffic, while still keeping location services on, I turned off location history and reporting in Google Now and that cut down drastically on the amount of background web traffic Google Now uses, but I can still use Google Now for what I need it for. I also found apps that have no reason to access the internet like GSam Battery monitor among others were doing so. With a combination of Greenify and removing internet access permission using App Settings (Xposed framework module) I was able to get those under control.
All this was a lot of trial and error, and it took me a while I figure out a good combination of conditions and applications to use to control the amount of background web traffic (causing WIFI related wakelocks). But now I get great battery life and really no loss of functionality. I think Google needs to do a better job of policing developers when it comes to this sort of stuff, the average person isn't going to go through all this.
Side note, has anyone else notices that at around 40% the battery tends to drop a bit more rapidly than the preceding 60%? If I was able to get 3 hours screen on time over the first 50% I'll probably on get 2 hours on the next last 50%. Its clear as day when you graph battery life vs screen on time after 40%. I have 2 official Samsung batteries I use and it happens on both.
I was on my S4 pretty hard today, all day and night long, surfing the web, reading XDA, watching YouTube, sending tons of texts, keeping up with the sports scores on my favorite teams playing today, using Sportstacular a lot.
I think almost 6h On Screen time is really good, and blows away my Nexus 4, which was getting around 3.5h to 4h On Screen time. Wonder how well the Nexus 5 will do On Screen time when hammering on the phone all day and night ?

Marshmellow Upgrade | Awful Battery Life

Anyone else experiencing this? Atrocious battery life post upgrade. Nothing odd running in background, program or processes. Rebooted phone. Started the day at 100% with moderate usage at best, I'm already down to 19%.
Battery life is relatively unchanged in mine after the mm update. Easily make it through the entire day with 50-60% battery life remaining. I disabled a whole bunch of the bloatware (and will be removing it entirely when I decide to root my phone) and battery life is wonderful.

Mine has been fine, slightly better with doze/disabling packages. Do a back up through Smart Switch and try a factory reset. I do that every time I update.
I'm envious of your successes. I'll give it a bit to see if it stabilizes, if not I'll use SS and reset/restore.

I will recommend "Package Disabler Pro" to disable bloatware. Costs but is worth the cash.
Mine went through on Thursday and so far battery appears ok.
I have noticed however the lighting is messed up all over. Play books night light feature is broken and dims it to unrecognizable levels. I have to go into the settings again when in the book and disable auto lighting and manually raise it. When back at the list of books screen, the brightness drops to nearly off again.
Also it seems the notifications when listening to music are much louder. I could listen to mp3s via poweramp while reading a book and get an SMS text and itd be a light little sound. this is playing louder than my music and very annoying.
My batter life was horrible after the upgrade. Here's what I did to fix it.
1) Wifi sleep policy - Changed that to "While Charging" (big difference noticed after that)
2) Fully charged phone then let it run down to 0 (must let it power itself off)
3) Wifi Scanning has been moved under Location setting. Go to Location -> Improve accuracy, make sure Wi-Fi scanning is off.
Batter life is awesome now.

1: Apps/sync will use mobile data as priority if this is done while waiting to connect to wifi. In turn, using even more battery if an app/sync wakes the phone switching between networks.
2: This is damaging to Li batteries. To extend the life of your battery, it is better to keep it topped above 80% and cool(not very common in real world applications). These aren't Ni batteries, long gone are the days of "memory discharging".
If you don't need notifications at night, use airplane mode. I miss Xposed, Autotasker, and Amplify(formerly Bounce)... Greenify is a good alt atm
Note: Sometimes even Play service updates will introduce bugs and or "retarded" policies that will destroy the battery, especially the "Now" systems. It can happen at the most random times as well and not at all most. Every now and then the fat man will get stuck in the tube.
All thoughtful replies. I don't have Location on ever, unless I'm using Waze, so that's a non-issue for me. Allowing WiFi to sleep when the phone is off, while I'm only connecting via WiFi, effectively makes my smartphone a dumb phone, until I wake it up, right? The fact that I need to start changing around "normal" settings on my phone, to lesser benefiting ones, to get back to the battery life I had before I installed MM is pretty silly. I've been hoping things would settle down, but they don't. I can try using SmartSwitch later to see if that helps.

No, it will connect LTE and then switch to wifi. LTE use more battery life, the network switch uses a bit, then finally you are into wifi. If your phone wakelocks or alarms(location ping, play service ping, etc) it will use more battery than wifi always on. Personally, I've tested both to make sure a wifi wakelock bug hasn't been introduced as I do with every update and play service update(it does happen and it's horrible drain). I see more savings always on.
If you meant you disable mobile network, yes, dumb phone, text and call. Also, I disable mobile usually always as I piggyback off work cell at work, and always wifi at home. I only toggle mobile data when necessary.

I believe this is what most people encounter. Most dont have unlimited data and use WIFI always. I think by default, WIFI is set to always on, even when phone screen is off. WIFI will rape your battery. I did my own tests with wifi vs 4g and just by using my 4g all the time, battery quadrupled. Many argued that WIFI uses less battery, and i have the best of the best wifi router/modem/isp with 5ghz ac excellent coverage. Not the case for me. I have unlimited and just stick with that now. Battery life on MM has been great for me.
My battery life is 4x better. I couldn't be happier.

Battery the same.
But I have to tap the screen harder to chose app.
Going to factory reset and start clean, been a while.

Not that I know of.
Though they JUST released Marshmallow. Verizon is probably still patting themselves on the back even though they released several months late. What I'm waiting for is a miraculous root.
I never use my phone the same amount every day, so it's hard to say exactly what kind of battery life I get, but I have noticed that it has improved. I would usually be near 15% by 10pm after coming off charger at 6am. Now I float around 25% at 10pm. So it seems to be better, even if only slightly so.
I see a minimal improvement, but I was doing what I could without root prior to sleep unnecessary crap.
Weird, when thye MM updated happened, up until the last two days, I was getting much better battery life under MM. But the past few days my battery life has declined dramatically to the point that I am not getting through a day of minimal use. Screen only 2%, Android OS consuming 76%.
I just fiddled with settings (Changed Wifi sleep to While Charging; Turned off wifi scanning). I am going to also try a reboot to see if that helps. I swear it started just about the time I started looking at Nexus 6p replacements).
Update, rebooting, and removing a few more useless apps and battery life has returned.
