Install Supersu from the app store (unless it is on the phone already). Open it, go to settings, scroll down and you will see an option to permanently unroot. Click it and let it do its thing. May need to reboot afterwards - manually.

If you are updating your phone in the sense of going from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 then you do not need to unroot your device. Though, you may lose root afterwards - but I haven't had this problem personally.

thank you for your reply..... i'll try it now.... i hope it won't brick my phone... i'm now in 4.0.4 ICS. and i want to upgrade it to 4.2.2 i saw a thread that there's an official update of it. but first i must unroot my phone.....thank you so much for your response.. God bless!!!
If you are S-On then you don't have to unroot. Just relock your bootloader.
But first, exactly what state is your phone currently in? S-Off? S-On? Bootloader unlocked? Bootloader locked? If you do not know then go into your settings and go to where your battery settings are. There is an option for fast boot. Make sure it is unchecked. Not shut off your device. Once it is shut off press and hold your volume down button, then press and hold your power button. Hold both until a white screen (your HBoot) shows up then release. If your bootloader is unlocked it will say unlocked at the top. If it is locked it will say locked. Also, if it says relocked then this means at one point the Bootloader had been unlocked but then relocked later on. Also check to see if it says whether or not you are S-On or S-Off. Let me know.

To exit out of this screen use your up and down volume buttons to scroll to 'fastboot' then press the power button to select it. You will enter the fastboot screen. Scroll using your volume buttons to 'reboot' and press the power button.

The update will fail if you have any missing system files or apps. Meaning, since you are S-OFF do you at any point remove some system apps and/or files to free up space or simply because you did not want them? If so you MUST restore them back on to your device. The OTA implements a patch verification and if something is missing from your device as stated above it will simply abort the OTA update. If you have a backup with all your stuff before you started tampering with your phone then restore your device with that backup and you will be able to proceed with the ota. In addition, you are S-OFF so it is not necessary for you to lock the bootloader when updating your device but if you wish to have it locked anyways then that is fine as well. Just make sure your bootloader is unlocked when you restore your device with your backup.

Hello.
I have a few questions in regards the OTA update for Cricket HTC ONE SV that I have. My device is rooted and has bootloader. However, I cannot do the OTA update. It would install but then when it would reboot to perform any necessary actions, it will say failed or what not. I am not sure if it's because my device is rooted.
I powered down the handset. I then held the Volume Down jey and Power button and was shown the HBOOT screen. The information below is listed:
Tampered
Unlocked
K2-PLC_CL PVT Ship S-ON RL
So I do not know what to do. I am kinda new at this and I want that OTA Update, becaue I am assuming it's better than the 4.1.2 version I currently have.
I see that there is a new Venom ROm available for this phone which I might consider, but it needs the OTA 4.2.2 to be installed I think. Also, do I need to flash to the Stock Rom to perform this OTA update?
If you can walk me through it, I would really appreciate it.

The Viper Rom is for K2_U and currently having support being added for K2_UL. It is not fitted for K2_PLC_CL or K2_CL.
Being rooted is not your issue for the OTA. The OTA is most likely failing because you are S-On with an unlocked bootloader and/or are trying to install the update using a custom recovery when you must use your stock recovery.
If you do decide to relock your bootloader make sure you flash your stock recovery and stock boot.img for security reasons.
I doubt you are missing any system apps because you are S-On which means you most likely still have write protection enabled on your device that prevents such changes. However, if you do have any removed system apps then this can cause a problem as well for the update as the update uses patches and also compares the md5sum between the original apk and the new patch. If they do not match it aborts. If one is missing it aborts.

How can I revert everything back to its factory condition so that way I can update via OTA and perhaps have my phone cleared of any bugs that exist? I know I have to do the stock recovery, but I forgot the procedure and do not know what files to use for this. I need like a step by step guide to revert everything back to normal. Is that something you can assist me with. Something that can help me in my situation?

When you attempted to updates your device with this OTA were you doing it by use of your custom recovery whether CWM or TWRP?
If yes, then what you can do is grab hold of your stock recovery image and flash it.
To flash it you must plug your device in to your PC.
Open the CMD window and change directories to where your proper adb/fastboot files are located. If using linux then those files should already be part of your path and will act immediately upon being called.
Run following command:
Code:
adb devices
This will try to establish connection from the pc to your device. If successful it will display your device serial number. If it fails it will return with a blank result.
If successful then go ahead and insure your stock recovery image is located where your proper adb/fastboot files are located at to make the next procedure simple. Rename your recovery image to stockrecovery.img. Continue with the next command:
Code:
fastboot flash [COLOR="red"]recovery[/COLOR] [B]stockrecovery.img[/B]
When it is done you should now have your stock recovery restored back to your device. At this point go ahead and reattempt to install your OTA and hopefully this will be the only thing needed from you to accomplish your task which is to bump up to 4.2.2.

So I just got my sensation today from a friend.
It used to be rooted, but he said he unrooted it.
I just checked hboot and it says at the top "unlock" and s-off.
But I do not have root privileges .
A little help trying to figure out what's going on please

So how do u know ur device is not rooted?
If it says s-off, you're pretty much good to go on installing a custom ROM.
Is there a custom recovery installed? That will be the other thing you'd need.
As far as the ROM you're already using, you can install a non rooted ROM on an s-off phone.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda premium
Rooted means the ROM is rooted.
S-Off means the phone itself is 'rooted' (I'm mixing up terminology here to make the explanation simple.)
So you have a phone that you can do anything to. If you install a custom ROM the ROM itself will be rooted, meaning it'll come with Superuser and full root access to the ROM files.
If you have a non rooted ROM on the phone now, you will only be able to flash a new ROM via recovery since you won't be able to run an app like ClockworkMod from the non rooted ROM. But that's no big deal. It just means you'll have to download the ROM you want, copy it to the SD card, and install it via the very easy to use recovery module. And I'd bet heavily that the recovery version on your phone is ClockworkMod and not the stock, so it'll be super easy.
If not, there are still yet other options.
Ok that makes sense.
I just double checked and I'm currently not rooted.
I booted into recovery and I'm current using
4ext 1.0.0.3 beta 7

You are golden.
4ext is a recovery that will let you flash ROMs. With S=Off you can flash most anything you like. If you want to flash an ICS ROM you'll have to upgrade the firmware first (unless it's already been done.)
There are easy to follow guides in the forum on how to do that. Pay attention to the parts about being SuperCID first (It's easy. Just pay attention to it)
For a regular Gingerbread ROM just download the one you want, put it on the SD Card, enter 4ext recovery and flash it. Should take about 2 minutes to set up and about 10 minutes to install the customer ROM after you start the recovery process (10 minutes of the ROM loading. Not 10 minutes of you doing anything. You can go eat a sandwich while the recovery installs the ROM)
If you need any assistance with using 4ext ask for it. (I've never used it so I can't talk you through it. I've only used clockwork) There are plenty of people here who know exactly what the step by step action is to make sure you get it right.

It sounds like you don't have a ROM loaded. The same thing happened to me after I upgraded the firmware. (Which has been done to your phone based on the info you provided) The firmware worked, but it had no ROM to boot into.
A quick re flashing of the ROM through the recovery and everything was back to normal.
With S-On though, I'm not sure you can flash a ROM. can't hurt to try it though. You're not going to make your problem worse.
I'm pretty sure I've already tried that, but I'll have a go again. Thanks for the help.

You need to flash the Clockwork recovery. You can do that by creating a PM58IMG.ZIP file with the clockwork recovery image and putting it on the root of your SD Card and running it as an update.
Or the much simpler way (Meaning fewer extra steps) is to use 4ext this one time to install a custom ROM, boot up into you rnow working phone and download ClockworkMod from the market and let ClockworkMod flash itself as the new recovery.
You might have to install Google Apps separately to get access to the market. That's dependent on the ROM. Some have it prepackaged. Some don't.
You won't have to go back and reinstall the ROM or anything after flashing the new recovery through the ClockworkMod app. Everything will work fine even though you installed it using 4ext.
Thanks a lot bro.
Question.
Can I now, just download clockwork from the market and flash it over the recovery I have now?

No. Not if the ROM you have installed isn't rooted.
Clockwork needs Superuser access to do anything. So it wouldn't be able to function without root.
There's nothing wrong with 4ext. It'll work just fine to boot up once even if you strongly prefer Clockwork.
(Also....not to be greedy, but I wouldn't complain if you hit the thanks button! )

On the plus side it's not worthless. It has value on eBay as a bricked device for parts.
Also, there's a thread around here somewhere called something like "Think you bricked your device? Check here first"
Check in there for other solutions. (That thread might be for the MyTouch 4G. I just switched phones so I've got all my threads between the forums mixed up in my head.)

Yeah that's a thing. Poor build quality at the factory.
From the poll that's up around here somewhere your odds of getting a dusty screen are about 50/50.
You can find that same thread in any forum for any HTC device on XDA. It's poor quality control by HTC.
You can tear the phone apart and wipe it down....but that obviously has a lot of other risks. Unless the dust is so bad it physically blocks the light from the screen from showing through....learn to like it.
Well I did the tear down and hinge fix for the g2.
Can you point me to the direction to what you have said.
Thanks bro

That'll give you everything you want to know.
Skip the part about obtaining S-Off since you've already go that. Do the rest of the stuff. (Step 2 in that guide is how to get Clockwork recovery the PM58IMG way. It just doesn't call it Clockwork.)
The first thing you need to do though is pick which of the ROMs you want from the 900 threads in the development section.
Hi guys,
My phone now currently running android 2.3.4. My phone originate from Hong Kong and already unlock by the seller.

Actually i not really know how to do. Can you provide me a link for RUU?an official ROM link for me to download perhaps.
I did try to ask the repairing shop, they not dare to help me to reformat, the reason is, they say my phone originate from Hong Kong and i currently now in Malaysia. They do not want to take the risk. I'm so Helpless =(
Before you do any more flashing of anything, go back to the bootloader (pull battery, then power button + volume down) and post here EXACTLY what you see on the screen. If possible just take a picture of the screen.
It makes me nervous that you got your phone from Hong Kong and then an update didn't work. There are a lot of fake Sensations coming out of China. They look like the real ones, but the hardware is different and firmware/roms/radios made for the Sensation won't work on them.
If you have a fake one, trying to flash an RRU on it will deffiantely kill it and kill it badly.

Yeah that looks all legit.
I didn't mean to scare you. But that's been happening lately where someone buys a knock off, tries to install Sensation software, and bricks the phone.
To fix your problem you may have to use ADB to install a custom recovery. Or you should be able to do it using a PM58IMG file. I'm pretty sure there's a PM58IMG file for flashing 4EXT in the 4EXT thread in the dev section. Just put the file on your SD card (using a computer, obviously since the phone doesn't work) boot into bootloader, and let it run. You should then have 4EXT
You can also upgrade the firmware the same way if you want to get ICS or Jelly Bean.
I think your problem is a lot more fixable than it seems. So don't stress. You should have this up and running oon.

so what should i do know ? T__T sad~~
Hi, I am currently running one of the clean roms and am having random restarts and random data connection issues. I would like to go back to stock and am wondering if I just leave my phone plugged in and run the 4.1.1 ATT RUU? Is it that simple? I am also security unlocked so I can always reenable root and flash to other roms right? (Every time I power on there is a statement about something in red lettering)
Does anyone also have the power button pushed in to where pressing the power is really hard. It used to be fine but now it is really hard to press the power button. How difficult is it to replace the power button?
If you have s-off you can go ahead and run the RUU to take your phone back to stock.
What do you mean by security unlocked though? That red text you see on boot just means your bootloader is unlocked.

Oh I just checked and you are right I have S-ON and the bootloader is unlocked. Is it still okay to proceed and still be able to root in the future and flash custom roms? Or will the new RUU lock that?
I just want to flash to completely stock to see if it solves my battery and data connection as well as radio issues.
If you run the RUU while you're s-on and SuperCID you'll brick your phone. You need to get s-off first.
Then when you want to run a custom ROM again you just need to flash a new recovery, and flash a custom ROM.

I'm under the assumption the wire-trick is still needed, but the toolkit has jbear built in, so you would go through the same steps but all files/tools/etc needed to go from stock to s-off is included in this one kit
But correct me if I'm wrong as I haven't tried this yet, just going off of what I know about this phone and how the emmc power cycles

No corrections necessary, my friend. That makes better sense. Just kinda caught me offguard. Still sounds like one heck of an accomplishment. Can't wait to get a little time to play around with it.
Has the S-Off function been confirmed? Is the wire trick still required? Either way looks like a nice tool!
I have never done the "wire trick". When I originally got my phone, it had the HBOOT 1.45.0007, I did S-OFF with Revolutionary, rooted, unlocked, and all was well. When the newer radio (11.59.3505.20_2) came out that also updated the HBOOT to 1.45.0013, I was told it would revert my phone to S-ON, but I don't think it did. It did update the HBOOT to 1.45.0013. I then had to relock the phone, go to HTCDEV and use the HTC unlock tool, then I re-rooted the phone. So, I've been HBOOT 1.45.0013, with radio 11.59.3504.20_2, and I'm S-OFF, unlocked, rooted, without ever doing a "wire trick".
I think OP should really have a writeup to explain what the different buttons do, and what exactly they are installing.

Wow, to the best of my knowledge this isn't possible as the s-off part part of the .07 would be due to a patched hboot, that just ignores the security flag checks. Flashing another bootloader would erase the old one which means erase the patch. Radio s-off is much lower level and flashing firmware would not return to s-on no matter the firmware flashed. So correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't the rev hboot just a patched bootloader? Just doesn't make sense how flashing a new bootloader and unlocking the phone would keep the radio secure flags turned off...

I don't know the technical details. I just know that my phone originally had 1.45.0007, now has 1.45.0013, and it is S-OFF and unlocked. I never did any "wire trick". When the new radio came out, there was lots of discussion about what to do to maintain S-OFF. I followed those discussions intently. I'm sure if I went back through the archives here on XDA I'd see where it was done, but I don't have the patience for that right now.
Some day I may dig through the old threads so I can wrap my head around this, seems strange to me but thanks for the reply. [/OT]
Is there anyone one out there that's unrooted or interested in bring their phone back to stock and test this all out?

This is a GUI program built using C# in Visual Studio 2013 that takes advantage of ADB and Fastboot commands and puts them into an easy-to-use toolkit. I will be continually developing it and trying out new features, so feel free to request any features you may want. Keep in mind that I am only 16 and have only been coding in C# since June, so I may not be able to implement every requested feature, and if it is possible, I may require assistance from our more skilled members. Any and all criticism is welcome, from the handling of a certain function to the misalignment of a button. I'm a neat freak myself, so no issue is too small! I hope you enjoy the toolkit! :fingers-crossed:
This toolkit uses the WinDroid HTC One X+ Toolkit as a base, so most features are universal besides the recoveries and S-OFF functions. If there is a feature, function or command that is more specific to the myTouch 4G Slide that would improve the toolkit, please let me know! :fingers-crossed:

So does it require a wire trick to achieve S-OFF with this tool or not? I'm already S-off, just wondering if that will be even more easy than the wire trick for those lazy ones who's still s-on?

Because the S-OFF methods here are based off of the current methods, most people will still need to do the wire trick.

And since it will have the stock recovery and its a pre rooted rom, I just have to flash a custom recovey, am I right? Thanks in advance...
What about option 2? Results of s-off? Unlocked or relocked bootloader? And if either method preserves my apps and all my settings.... Thanks in advance again...

How do you return to complete factory stock? I am rooted with an unlocked bootloader. I was running ViperOne, but I ran the RUU from the SD Card and and now on stock, but still rooted and unlocked. I am trying to do a warranty replacement. I found instructions to re-lock, but how do I unroot and remove SuperSU?
Are there any additional steps I should take?
Thanks!

Firmware Update
I tried to update my firmware from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 using the Option 2 (App/EXE) method and the phone had a black screen with HTC in white to black fading colors. The pc said updating and sending. I waited for almost an hour and nothing showed to be happening. I disconnected the phone from the pc and aborted the operation. So I then tried to do Option 1. I put the zip file on my external SD card. I tried to flash it with Flashify but it didn't work. I then went in to TWRP to install it and now I'm stuck on the white screen with the green htc lettering. Phone doesn't do any thing when pressing volume down and power or volume and up and power. Is my phone now a paperweight? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

An ruu is not flashable via flashify or twrp. No where in the instructions does it say that. In fact, you really shouldn't be attempting flashes like that with partition based zips period. You could brick your phone.
Try the exe again. It likely never sent because your pc didn't install the correct driver for the phone when you entered fastboot.

I'm sure it's obvious, but I just want to confirm that I won't lose S-Off by using this?
You will not lose s off. That will remain in tact unles you s on yourself via adb
