About
The WinDroid Toolkit is a Windows program built in Visual Studio using the C# programming language that simplifies the rooting process for many Android devices. The toolkit makes it easy to unlock your bootloader, flash a custom recovery and gain permanent root. It also includes other functions such as flashing kernels, pushing files and installing apps. If you find it helpful, give me a thanks and a donation if you can. If you find a bug or have a feature request, feel free to leave a reply. Thanks!

S-Off with no wire trick???? That's just AMAZING! KUDOs MAN!

I know haha... Would try it but weekends and his friends coerced me to do... Took the plunge and never looked back

I'm under the assumption the wire-trick is still needed, but the toolkit has jbear built in, so you would go through the same steps but all files/tools/etc needed to go from stock to s-off is included in this one kit
But correct me if I'm wrong as I haven't tried this yet, just going off of what I know about this phone and how the emmc power cycles

It really was worth the temporarily quickened pulse & respiration rate though wasn't it? Almost like a little roller coaster. LOL

No corrections necessary, my friend. That makes better sense. Just kinda caught me offguard. Still sounds like one heck of an accomplishment. Can't wait to get a little time to play around with it.

Has the S-Off function been confirmed? Is the wire trick still required? Either way looks like a nice tool!

I have never done the "wire trick". When I originally got my phone, it had the HBOOT 1.45.0007, I did S-OFF with Revolutionary, rooted, unlocked, and all was well. When the newer radio (11.59.3505.20_2) came out that also updated the HBOOT to 1.45.0013, I was told it would revert my phone to S-ON, but I don't think it did. It did update the HBOOT to 1.45.0013. I then had to relock the phone, go to HTCDEV and use the HTC unlock tool, then I re-rooted the phone. So, I've been HBOOT 1.45.0013, with radio 11.59.3504.20_2, and I'm S-OFF, unlocked, rooted, without ever doing a "wire trick".

I think OP should really have a writeup to explain what the different buttons do, and what exactly they are installing.

Wow, to the best of my knowledge this isn't possible as the s-off part part of the .07 would be due to a patched hboot, that just ignores the security flag checks. Flashing another bootloader would erase the old one which means erase the patch. Radio s-off is much lower level and flashing firmware would not return to s-on no matter the firmware flashed. So correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't the rev hboot just a patched bootloader? Just doesn't make sense how flashing a new bootloader and unlocking the phone would keep the radio secure flags turned off...

I don't know the technical details. I just know that my phone originally had 1.45.0007, now has 1.45.0013, and it is S-OFF and unlocked. I never did any "wire trick". When the new radio came out, there was lots of discussion about what to do to maintain S-OFF. I followed those discussions intently. I'm sure if I went back through the archives here on XDA I'd see where it was done, but I don't have the patience for that right now.

Some day I may dig through the old threads so I can wrap my head around this, seems strange to me but thanks for the reply. [/OT]
Is there anyone one out there that's unrooted or interested in bring their phone back to stock and test this all out?

This is a GUI program built using C# in Visual Studio 2013 that takes advantage of ADB and Fastboot commands and puts them into an easy-to-use toolkit. I will be continually developing it and trying out new features, so feel free to request any features you may want. Keep in mind that I am only 16 and have only been coding in C# since June, so I may not be able to implement every requested feature, and if it is possible, I may require assistance from our more skilled members. Any and all criticism is welcome, from the handling of a certain function to the misalignment of a button. I'm a neat freak myself, so no issue is too small! I hope you enjoy the toolkit! :fingers-crossed:
This toolkit uses the WinDroid HTC One X+ Toolkit as a base, so most features are universal besides the recoveries and S-OFF functions. If there is a feature, function or command that is more specific to the myTouch 4G Slide that would improve the toolkit, please let me know! :fingers-crossed:

I should have looked closer, I am seeing there's a button for each different method. Duuuhhhh Still a great looking tool!

Major update to version 2.0! Check it out and let me know what you think! :highfive:

So does it require a wire trick to achieve S-OFF with this tool or not? I'm already S-off, just wondering if that will be even more easy than the wire trick for those lazy ones who's still s-on?

Because the S-OFF methods here are based off of the current methods, most people will still need to do the wire trick.

[How To] Flash ICS ROMs with S-ON Unlocked

This only really applies to those with S-ON Unlocked, HBOOT 1.45.0013. Once we figure out how to get S-OFF on all phones, this guide will become unneeded! In the meantime, this is here for those of us that are S-ON but want to play with ICS.
THIS TUTORIAL ALSO APPLIES TO ANY CUSTOM ROMS THAT REQUIRE A CUSTOM KERNEL.
If you're S-ON LOCKED, go HERE and UNLOCK your phone!
I'm assuming you have
Fastboot set up as a PATH, or copied to the folder you are extracting boot.img to
HTC Drivers installed
Clockwork Recovery
1.) Grab your ROM of choice.
2.) Open up your ROM in 7zip or another file compression program.
3.) Extract the "boot.img" file that's inside to a folder.
4.) Open the command prompt and go to the folder you extracted the "boot.img" file too.

}
"cd" in the command prompt stands for "change directory", so you will need to type that before the path to where your boot.img file is located.
5.) Reboot your phone into fastboot mode. To do this, turn off your phone by holding down the "Volume down" and "Power" buttons until the fastboot screen arrives. There should be three Androids on skateboards on the bottom.
6.) Press the power button once on the "fastboot" option. Your phone should now connect to the computer and it should say "fastboot usb" on your phone.
7.) In the command prompt, type the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
8.) Assuming you've done everything properly, this will overwrite the existing kernel on your phone with the kernel that comes with your ROM.
9.) Now, reboot your phone into Recovery. At this point, flash your ROM by flashing the zip file.
10.) Reboot and enjoy your new ROM!
Thanks to Blue6IX for telling me how to do this and to yogi2010 for making me realize I forgot to tell people to actually flash the ROM itself. Figured I'd make a guide for those that didn't know about it since it's probably hidden somewhere underneath pages and pages of comments on other ROMs.
probably worth stickying for a while till we get to know how to downgrade to an s-offable state?
Amazing work guys.
I'm also lucky the phone I purchased off Craigslist was root able.

I can confirm this does indeed work as advertised. I'm S-On Unlocked with latest HBOOT, installed pyr-o-ice 1.1.1 yesterday, its running as it should.

Will this method work for all of the ROMs we have here for the mt4gs? One I have been looking at is Bulletproof. If I use the same technique you've explained, will I get the same end result?
Just got a MT4GS a couple days ago. It was updated to 1.45.0013. I read up to see that it couldn't be S-OFF'd or rooted due to locked bootloader..."oh crap!". Searched more and ran into this... "hells yeah!" Worked like a charm! Now running Pyr-o-ice desensed...awesome stuff! Thanks a lot!

All of the ICS roms (and all of the custom GB roms as far as i know) are rooted here, and include the 'su' binary and superuser apk. That's what counts, so short answer:
yes

We'll nail it eventually. It's a tough nut to crack, but at least along the way we found a temporary fix.
We can now go back to S-ON from S-OFF, and the standard response to how to do that for the longest time was 'it's not possible'. Anything is possible with the right amount of effort invested. I am sure we'll come up with some more goodies along the way...some are brewing even now.
I've made S-ON to S-OFF my life's work until it's done, and have mostly given up on everything else I was working on to achieve that end.
There are a few other devs who have been spending a lot of time on this as well, and we are working together and unraveling the issue one layer at a time.
We'll get it, but it's the toughest nut to crack - the manufacturer is doing whatever they can to prevent us from being able to do so...there is a specific effort to block us from doing it that must be overcome.
Meantime, since we don't have a real RUU for this phone on any software version, the search for one came back with the leaked copy of the OTA as an official signed HTC package. ( To me it seemed like a consolation prize after the exhausting search for an RUU...didn't get one, but got at least this )
I'm glad someone went ahead and made a guide for people to use it to at least get unlocked since HTC broke the OTA they actually pushed over-the-air, this package is what it was supposed to be.
Hang in there, we'll get all you guys S-OFFed as soon as we can!
Y'all are doing a kickass job man. I'm sure once this phone is all the way opened up and dev see that, it will gain more publicity. I unlocked my phone with the htcdev.com, but haven't loaded up a rom yet. All I've really done is uninstalled a few bloatware apps, but can't wait until I can have total access to everything and see what this badboy has to offer.

ok.. noob question, can I flash boot after flashing custom rom?
First off: Thanks are due across the board, as well as to the man who made the .exe Noob-proof app it helped a little bit and worked great
Second: Okay.. I recieved a warranty replacement..new HBoot. following this guide I did all required.
UPON using fastboot command to boot the boot.img it reboots and starts to boot up PyroIce 1.1.2..... which you say isnt right since i need to flash the ROM again in Recovery..
If i Do that it wont boot again and hangs on the MT4GS splash screen, i think it is actually due to the fact that i also flash the adreno drivers patch, but i am not going to try and tinker with it.
bottom line, working... thanks so much guys

I've seen that boot.img is where the kernels are, and I've seen that to flash an ICS ROM in that thread that in order to flash an ICS ROM on a MT4GS you need to flash a kernel after the ROM, in the form of a boot.img.
So I'll say, hesitantly, "yes".
Unless, of course, you meant something else. That, or, I misunderstood something somewhere...

I don't know much about the whole ROM thing and Android in general. I come from G1 land, where everything was easy . You just flash the ROM and you're done. However, if I understand correctly, here you just flash the ROM you want (ICS whatever) and then the kernel (boot). Did I miss something along the way?
I would think that the kernel should be no different conceptually than the one in Linux (or Windows, or OS-X, or...). It's the interface between the software packages ("Android", plus the apks, framework, all that) and the hardware. So really, I don't see why any ROM shouldn't work as long as your kernel has everything the ROM needs to interface with the hardware and the framework has everything the ROM needs to interface with the software (or the software with the kernel). Do I understand correctly?
[EDIT]
I just reread that... you booted the hboot via fastboot instead of writing it to the phone first... which I guess is smarter than what I did -- cus if it won't work at least you don't brick it that way. Do you have a link to the howto for that? I'm sure it's simple and easy, I just have never done it...

No, jelly bean (only for boost mobile is ics).
You have to look at the Software Number.
For ics you can use Supercid and Facepalm S-off (except boost mobile).
All devices now supported
Boost (k2_cl) cricket (k2_plc_cl) gsm lte(k2_ul) and gsm only (k2_u)
All one Sv users can install this, it only takes five minutes. Boost mobile is still in testing, but it fully works.
Thanks beaups and fuses. Without them this wouldn't be possible at all.

Install custom roms
Hi, is there a change that something can go wrong using this method? Because I have used it after htc dev-unlock an rooting, and have S-off, but my phone doesn't install a custom rom. I understand that you have to be S-off to be able to install custom roms, right?

If you see, that you are S-Off, you should be S-Off, i think.
And you don't need to be S-Off to flash custom Roms, you also can flash with S-On, but you need to flash boot.img with fastboot then.
As i have seen your phone info, you have hboot 2, that means you had already jb installed. So why do you want to use the stock, odexed rom instead?

I want that because my phone acts weird. It doesn't remember whether I want to use my launcher or Sense, if I put a widget on my homescreen the next day there's a grey area where the widget was, etc. So I thought if I can install a stable rom that might be over.

It doesn't change unlocking or S-Off. It deletes all user data, all you brought to your phone (not external sd, internal sd i'm not sure), but not things in system.
It sets the software itself to the point where the phone came to you.
Worked perfect!! Nice job.

If you have HTC sync, make sure that you reboot the pc and the phone so that everything is reset and the files are completely removed from the pc.
Unzip the Moonshine zip that you downloaded and place it in a folder. With your phone fully booted, plug in USB and connect to pc. Click on the distiller and follow the prompts. Also, make sure you have a good charge on your phone because it'll take it between 5 and 10 minutes.
Also, if you are running a custom kernel, you will need to reinstall it after you have finished with Moonshine.

Hi.
Quick question, I'm trying to help someone back in France with this.
If you're on JB (official OTA update) and do this procedure, will you :
- keep your data as they were just before ?
- keep your rom as it was before (ie : will you be able to install the next OTA updates without any trouble) ?
In one word : does this process just does S-OFF or does it change anything else ?
Thanks a lot !

If you can't figure this out. give up and stay stock. This phone is quirky so if you can't figure out how to root on this perfectly organized and easy to navigate forum with all the information at your finger tips. You should not root. You don't even have to search, you could just look at the stickies and figure it out.

i clicked perm root and it brings me to a phone with a red triangle and if i press like volume up and power (something like that) i get into stock recovery
It's very straight forward. All you need to do is follow the instructions in the thread. If you can't work that out, it might be best if you stay stock.

Perm root only works after you unlock the bootloader. You need to run the appropriate exploit to get temp root and achieve SuperCID, then you can unlock the bootloader.
As for the question in your title, its not possible to obtain perm root without unlocking the bootloader, on the 2.14 hboot.
Agree with the statements above. Its pretty apparent you lack the basic understanding of the tool and the root process. Do some reading and learning before you do some permanent damage to your device.

how to soff en HTC one S 3.14.531.17RD

Hi This is my third Post in XDA.
is my tutorial for those like me that had many problem and read enough tutorials all a failure to make the htc one s S4 s-Off and more with this version 3.14.531. 17RD I did with Moonshine guarantee them that if they do such as this will have successes I hope to serve you very helpful!
I take NO responsibility of anything is of my authorship I did under my results, if they do the steps well will have no problems.
To begin!
This is my mobile and this is the requirement

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Note before you start:
first I had this version 3.14.531.17RD lower this version 3.14.531.11
As:
Download this official RUU from here
http://www.androidruu.com/getdownload.php?file=Ville/RUU_Ville_U_JB_45_S_TMOUS_3.14.531.11_Radio_1.13.50.05.31_10.30.50.08L_release_309489_signed_ICS_2.exe
Then I closed the bootloader (bootloader) wrote: fastboot oem lock then right click on my downloaded RUU run as administrator I followed the step and ready.
But first of all: this was my mistake, I had installed htc sync uninstall you make the process of with moonshine and runrunner soff again and again and always the same problem, look
Moonshine
Runrunner
As you can see in the pictures above were more 40 min and nothing just bla bla bla as runrunner left me this error, knowing I had that first make the soff to superCID the problem was the HTC sync no matter if uninstall you the is waste that was my mistake until I decided to format my pc from scratch.
VERY IMPORTANT
If you have not installed the HTC SYNC manager pass to step 2
Step 1: Download and install Your Uninstaller! Pro 7.5.2013.02 DC 13.11.2013 from here
http://www.vdownload.us/programs/18603-your-uninstaller-pro-v75201302-dc-13112013.html
Delete Full HTC SYNC Manager
Step 2: install SDK from here (If you have it installed just upgrade to most recent)
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html#download
Step 3: install Java from here (If you already have it installed, go to step 5)
http://java.com/es/
Step 4: install only the driver for HTC (NOT HTC SYNC) from here (be sure to have it)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2217396
Step 5: Once updated SDk enters: sdk/platform-tools: / opened my window command with shift + right click and wrote: fastboot getvar all then the enter key, so they can see the info of my HTC One s tmobile S4
Step 6: Download Moonshine from here
http://moonshine.io/
(the file name is moonshine_ville_3.14.531.11.zip-20.0mb) is for the main of your mobile version 3.14.531.11 once downloaded extracted it copied the 5 files as shown in the picture into the folder: sdk/platform-tools
Step 7:in the mobile remove the selection of Fast boot, enable USB debugging, and remove the safety (Nothing pattern, PIN).
Step 8: connect the cable in the mobile USB make sure this synchronized, write adb devices if shown the serious beginning with HT... Already this synchronized
Step 9: double click on the executable distiller.exe let you see in the photo, this process has a duration close 5 minutes and restarts from 4 to 5 times, wait until you finish see photo
I did this with the stock recovery, nothing TWRP or CWM see photo
Once finished restart several times this is the result!
Step 10: super cid already applied from here

This is all! I have my sense 5 installed Rom from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2445392
and here is the sense 5 on my tmobile S4 see
Another ROM with SENSE 5 download from here

Remember, I try with moonshine and rumrunner and failure see the first pictures of the post as well as all had many problems to be Soff and more with this version 3.14.531. 17RD I am the author of this post and so it was that work for me and I want to share with everyone having problems with soff, if were steps correctly will have success like me
Hey man. I had the same problem as you where rumrunner wouldn't work and I had the same version as you. But I did as you did step by step and I finally got S-Off and then I also did SuperCID.
My question how in the end did you get rid of the moonshine S-Off at the top and got the "TAMPERED.....LOCKED" back??

It relocked your bootloader, just unlock it using htcdev.com, only way to get rid of the moonshine writing is to flash a different hboot.

That's what I was thinking so I tried to unlock the bootloader with the unlock bin file that I got from htcdev.com when I first originally unlocked and rooted my phone but it failed. Do I need to do the htcdev.com process again and attain another unlock bin file?
And as for the hboot, is there a major difference between 2.15 and 2.16??

Yes get New bin file.
2.16 pros
1.sd is now 12gb
2.can run newest sense software
Cons
1.cant mount SD while in recovery
2.cant run roms made for 2.15
Basically if your a sense guy upgrade to 2.16 if you find yourself using cm mostly best to stay on 2.15. There are a few cm builds that are for 2.16 but most use 2.15.
But we're way off topic so pm if you have more questions about 2.16 or upgrading.
To OP sorry for the thread highjack now back on topic

Warning/Discussion 4.4.3 root/unlock/s-off

Update:
SunShine now supports the 4.4.3 update, it will now unlock and s-off all Verizon m8s.
Updates patch vulnerabilities. Roots, s-offs and unlocks use vulnerabilities. If you want root on 4.4.3, you NEED to s-off/unlock before updating. I will not be releasing more "hacky" roots like WeakSauce in the near future. @beaups and I will continue to work to bring new solutions to this device
Tool status:
4.4.3
WeakSauce - incompatible for good
Firewater - incompatible for good
SunShine - incompatible (update will happen within the next few months)
If you want root, you need to unlock/s-off before updating to 4.4.3
Firewater - unlock/s-off - Free - http://firewater-soff.com/ (does not work on all m8s!)
SunShine - unlock/s-off - $25 - http://theroot.ninja/
General advice:
1) Don't try to fix something that isn't broken. If your old version of firmware and/or software works just fine, you can certainly wait to update to the newest one for a few days or even weeks. Let the developer community fix all of the bugs and make sure that everything works.
2) When updating, make sure first that you will retain or will be able to reacquire root. It's not always the case.
3) Avoid manufacturer/provider OTA updates like the plague. OTA's can break your s-off/bootloader/recovery/root etc. Wait for a developer to release a standalone rom based on the new version.
Hi, i need some help. i was trying to unroot my htc one m8 on Verizon and now it got stuck on hboot screen. trying to restart in every way but its keep coming back to bootloader page. can any one pls help me
First off thanks for all the hard work jcase! Do you know of any other temp root solutions for 4.4.3 at the moment? I don't want/need s-off or unlocked bootloader. Plus I don't have a computer anymore to pull it off. I just need root for those moments I want to tether and be able to get rid of it otherwise ( Some apps won't work with root that I use ). Weaksauce worked perfect for me in that aspect and would love to keep that routine on 4.4.3. If not no biggie, I can just chill on 4.4.2 till something pops up. Thanks again though!
I'm impressed, Verizon goes to all this work to patch all of your exploits and you fix them(only one you actively work on anymore, Sunshine) on the same day of release. I would honestly be so mad if I was them hahahaha lol
So question, I fully intend on purchasing your app to reroot my phone. My question is, if I'm rooted now, and I have various xposed modules installed, what do I need to do before accepting the update? Can I just accept, install, purchase your app, and have root again? Just trying to not brick my phone here. Thanks.

Sunshine does not "unroot" or wipe your device the way htcdev bootloader unlock or exploits like Unrevoked or Juopunut wiped handsets in the process of securing S-OFF. It's always a good idea to do a nandroid backup before doing any of these things. Unless you have S-OFF you can never be certain of preserving root after an OTA.
jcase said as much in this thread and other threads. It's all over this forum. Don't take an OTA unless you are S-OFF, and even then, better to wait.

From what I'm reading, you have to have the stock recovery to successfully take the ota, which will remove root but not return you to s-on. So, as long as you're still s-off, you can put your custom recovery back on thru adb and flash the root package of your choice to return to full root.

They did not patch the ability to run the phone as root.
They patched the vulnerability that Weaksauce uses to give you the ability to gain root access.
If you have s-off the update does not change that so you can like explained above re-flash a custom recovery after the update.
The best thing to do is wait for Scott "Scolser"or someone else to put together a rooted stock 4.4.3 rom.
everyone is so worried about breaking root and such.. there is a 4.3 update on here that only updates firmware and radios.. you should be using that one.. flashed from hboot.. not using the full 600mb OTA thats on here too

Checked out towelroot. No go on our device period and support ended for it on future updates. Like i said before, no biggie. 4.4.3 doesn't add anything life changing for me or atleast anything better then the ability to tether. Will chill on 4.4.2 till someone else makes a temproot method. No hurry. Thanks again for all you do for the community!
The idea being... Users like me who are on a custom ROM... To take the radio's and firmware... And let the ROM based off 4.4.3 take care of the rest... The venom ROM that I am on was based off the international 4.4.3 update... But needed the actual firmware update to work completely and get rid of things like LONG boot times and issues w the SDcards... Now if you're on stock and unlocked and s-off etc then yes you need the full update... But unfortunately.. the full update breaks root and unlock at the moment until a work around is made our found... It is what it is... Our awesome developers need time to make something up

Sunshine has been updated to work with the 4.4.3 ota. Its my understanding that once you're s-off, you can fastboot a custom recovery and then flash the root package of your choice.

If I understand you correctly, your preferred method for s-off users would be to return to stock (using the RUU for example), take the update, then fastboot flash new custom recovery and supersu and go from there?
