Request| can some one port sense rom (viper s) to our nexus 5 ???
I knew this question was coming... Lol. It was pretty hard to get it on the n4 and is still. I don't think we will see it on the n5

Only a matter of time..
*smh* & *facepalm* combined..
<rant>
For the love of all of the vanilla bean ice cream on the planet.. No offense intended to anyone (especially OP) but I'll never EVER understand why of parties love the sense UI why they just done buy sense enabled devices to begin with? I have owned one or two devices with that UI and I liked it a lot so I can appreciate the lure of it but never will I get why people will ask for it on a NON-HTC device..
</rant>
Now having said that.. The technical answer in abridged form: Won't happen unless some kind dev wants to spend many hours reverse engineering and quite possibly coding a large portion of the sense framework.
Why, you ask? As with Samsung's 'TouchWiz' iteration (which I reeeealy hate) any part of the framework that is added by the manufacturer is not subject to open source compliancy which means no source code. A lot of the code in sense is proprietary which means yet another hurdle..
OP u r so cute!

C'mon! Why? You got a Nexus for a reason, right? Just theme it. There's a LOT of stuff out there now to theme your way to Sense like proportions! No sense (pun intended) in having a dev knock their brains out.

You get a nexus because its a nexus bro... Not to just run pure android ONLY, to be able to run sense/tw or whatever you want. Nexus = Freedom and that is why we buy a nexus ?

Not if it's too big of a pain for the devs. They do enough for us. Seriously.

The OP should try it on his own.
I said it back in GN and N4 days. It isn't possible to port Sense to a non HTC phone.
It would be easier to develope ur own UI than this

Its the freedom to be able to run AOSP without OEM reneging on GPL. It's nothing to do with running sense or touchwiz. The beauty of nexus is that Google supply the source code, the drivers and the device tree, which isn't the case with OEM devices

I swear am I the only one that hates sense 5? When I had a S4 I seen a lot of these requests too. I went from the s3 to HTC one and hates everything about it except the sound quality. The app drawer is gross... Blinkfeed sucks. I mean, it was OK looking with a different launcher but idk I traded it for a S4 3 weeks later.
I love the ui of the nexus. This is my favorite phone. I traded in the s4 for this and although I lose a nice camera, thats pretty much all I lose

Personally this is why I bought the N5.. Got tired of having to re-add innate functionality to branded devices and find 'work arounds' for things the carriers felt it best to remove.
I do miss my audio and hdmi out via the samsung docks I had.. That's the only thing though.. and it really bites as I had docks at home and work which are useless now.. the N5 is my first unbranded though and I can say after my experience with the N5 I'll never go branded or carrier issued again.. The pure Google experience is so much more fluid.
I always try the oem frameworks for a while but inevitably end up on aosp. Still on stock for the nexus though although obviously its not too much of a departure

The SAMSUNG MOBILE UNPACKED 2011 event will be held on October 18th in HongKong.
The device has a curved display similar to the Nexus S. Download the SAMSUNG MOBILE UNPACKED Application for more details
You see, several sources are now confirming Nexus Prime will most likely run a dual-core 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4460 CPU along with 1280 x 720 Super AMOLED display.
It is likely to have 4.6-inch screen with 320 ppi which looks beastly enough against iPhone 4S’ 3.5-inch 960 x 640 326-ppi retina display.
Have a look at the recent shots of the Nexus Prime

I would be surprised if Samsung didn't put their Exynos in it.
But either way that design is quite revolutionary for a cell phone. It looks so sick. And knowing it's from Samsung, the quality will br top notch.
Now if only I wasn't a broke ass college student I'd definitely nab one!

lol that alone make some of us pro SmartPhone users laugh. As SamSUX and top notch quality should not even be put in same line much less paragraph. It will be just another typical Nexus based POS that is like always behind the curve as always. Just watch when it comes out it will already be outdated like iPhoney.

Im with you.. I used to jump from HTC to another
HTC Pro -> HTC Hero - > HTC Google N1
and I wanted another HTC but at least in my 3G band frequency (850) the best option in the market was IMO the Galaxy S (at the time I got it) and now the Galaxy S2 which I have. Everything was perfect (except no flash on the S and slowness I didnt know existed until using a dual core cell) but I still missed and currently miss the HTC feel to the cell phones with their designs and metal body at least on the N1.
I cant wait for the Nexus Galaxy or is it Nexus Prime after all? Im gonna go from my S2 to that once the price is right

Actually, with AT&T already giving the Vivid the ICS update, I'd say that this could be pretty realistic.
At least we know if it doesn't come soon, it's not AT&T, it's Samsung.
ICS has not been released for the Vivid. That is someone talking out of turn (a dedicated tester or volunteer tester). That realease would be all over Android Central and our website.

It gives you a notification saying you have an update available, if you want to install it or not, is your choice.
Sometimes you'll even get a text informing you that your phone has an update available.
Another question for the updates, is it only for carrier sold phones? I bought mine at the US but I'm at Israel and I still haven't received the 2.3.6 update.
Very good news, will open development of some nice ROM's. Maybe it will keep me from flashing once or twice a week.
I doubt it. We'll see though, hopefully they surprise.

To throw my two cents in, the fact that SGSII international is getting it soon and supposedly Vivid is getting it now is a good sign for us.
However, I really don't like TouchWiz's overlay of ICS. To me one of the main features of ICS was a revamped and slick look. TouchWiz 4 just kills that. So what do I, personally (and anyone who feels the same) have to look foward to with ICS?
This is coming from an Android noob btw, so if there was extra features besides the FaceUnlock *useless imo* and sleek UI please enlighten me.

The real benefit will be the Kernel getting into the hands of the Devs. In time, they will do many thing with it including a non-Touchwiz version ROM.

From what I understand ICS is completely redone. There are alot of new code and things done different from previous versions of Android. I can understand why nothing has really been released yet. I know there is a couple versions of ICS over in the development section but there are very few things that work.

Yeah.... but he wasn't using a gs3 so I'm not sure where your going with that because I was just saying (btw I know our phone is old, come on now) the news about how ios6 has the new basic features of stock gb is very interesting.
I don't keep up with iPhone crap so when I see a good video or something like that I figure its worth sharing with others that might not keep up with "cutting edge apple features" lol
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
I think most apple users get the IPhone not for its features, but for it's "social" status.

Lmao Apple Idiots, I wouldn't buy a phone that can do basic stuff. I want a phone that can go above and beyond for me.
I didn't watch the whole video but I inferred that it was against android. So you can't really compare an old fascinate to iPhone 5.

I LOVE Armando's videos. Thanks so much for sharing this, it's one of the best videos he's done for a while.
If you have an hour to spare, go and watch his excellent Android vs. iOS series, it's extremely well done and great ammunition to use against Apple fanboys
There's a YouTube video by "Android Authority" that shows SGS3 vs. Iphone5 drop tests. Iphone wins without a fight. I commented there that it's obvious this one is on an Apple payrole.

No. It was showing how the "new" features in iOS 6 have been on Android for at least 2 years. Just goes to show you how "cutting edge" those iPhones are. I'd rather pay full price for a Samsung than give Apple $20 for an iDevice of any sort.

Flaming each other because of what one has vs. what the other one has is silly.
My mom (rightfully) uses Windows and has an Android device. My Sister loves her iPhone.
I've been known to use both and all of the above.
I think these kinds of topics belong in the xda general forums and not in the device specific general forum, just because there is nothing here that is specific to sgs4g.
Just an opinion.

Not trying to start a flame party for apple, that was not the point of this thread.
Anyway like the title says, I have been trying to tell people for years that android is a much more fully feature rich os than io6 always has always will.
A lot of my friend jumped on the iPhone craze, and my usual answer to "hey check out what I can do now" is "wait you couldn't do that yet...wtf apple"
Just found it funny that's all
Btw Ive rocked an iphone, webos, android, a Ubuntu PC, and a windows for the hell of it.(can't afford a Mac) I like a little piece of all of them
And it seems like I can't post stuff in the right place.....ever lol or at least that's what they tell me, sorry all

What iphone doesn't have is freezes, reboots, force closes, volume issues, gps lock problems...Cant wait for contract to be up to get an iphone, I m done with samsung and t freaking mobile
No I disagree, I have an iPad 3 on ios6, when apps stop working, they just crash and exit to springboard, they don't tell you that the app isn't responding. My ipad has rebooted in the middle of a game, and yes, my volume was once full and audio wasn't working one time. I had to reboot.
GPS lock problems are notorious for galaxy s 1. It's not android or tmobs fault. Yes I agree that samsung is at times a pain in the butt and all the tmobile employees have gotten their brains removed are controlled by some remote in t-mobiles headquarters.
I am a big mac fan though.
I hate iphone
I love android
me = mac+android
it's a weird combination, but there are quite a few.
I feel like i'm on a leash in a 4x4x4 box when I use iOS.

Lol agreed. I don't know how many time I've dropped my SGS4G and still working. My brother ipod touch (basically iphone without calling features) took one drop and it was done for. Even my old samsung moment withstood the extreme, after spiderwebbing it that AMOLED screen continued to work like a champ.
I didn't initially want to contribute to a VS iPhone thread, but

The S3 have poor built quality, accept it. I own one I know, I had the SII, Note and Nexus as well. There are many complaints in the S3 section too, even with people who gets their screen broken while the phone is in their pocket. There are some design flaws of the phone that have no relation on how the user use the phone. Base on these iPhone 5 drop test I'm impressed with the built quality (but that's about the only good thing about the device): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2BxL0nRDlY&feature=plcp, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m669QDakJNg&feature=plcp

And form my own phone, what happened after you remove the back cover multiple times, I never had this problem on other phones because they have a stronger cover:

It still takes better pictures than my Vibrant. Wozniak said when he shown photos he taken to his friends, they prefer the S3 photos over the 4S. Both the S3 and iPhone 5 camera are Sony sensor, the difference is in the DSP and how each company are tune them. Regardless no matter how nice iPhone takes pictures, the camera app have nearly zero options making it useless to me.
Want to get a new phone soon but don't know what to get in regards of long term development I've had my infuse since day one and love the way that its not obsolete after 6months any suggestions would be appreciated
Again Im thinking in terms of longevity

LG OG.
Several of us that were using the Infuse are there.
I personally have gone with the Nexus 4 (Optimus G's brother) not only because i love the look of it but also because of all the developing that's going on with it currently. I can't speak about the OG development but what I've been in terms of development for the N4 is incredible.

Mostly the design. I've had my fun with a brick looking phone (Infuse). You don't really appreciate the curves until you hold it in your hand and get a feel for it. The glass also is curved at the edges like the HTC One and makes swiping feel very nice. The etched back glass looks incredible in the right lighting too. Overall the phone is just simply sexy. The price is absolutely unbeatable and being the first to get updates is really nice too although I'll be going the custom route which this phone as at least 10 different ROMs already.

N4 has 3, 4 & 5 and with a different kernel you can increase the battery life pretty well though it will never be easily removable.

I would support the choice of the Nexus 4. Most bang-for-the-buck Android device since ever imo.
If money isn't that much of an issue, I would definitely look to the HTC One for beauty or maybe the SIV since there will almost definitely be a huge following for that phone..
+1 for the GNote....once you use it...you're hooked.

Checked out some reviews on the note and all others mentioned and all it did was make me want them all
The HTC one is sexy but the note is the one I've been eye balling since its introduction

I wouldn't suggest it....HTC is terrible with development. They have crap source...and even had a DMCA takedown on the HTC msn8660 official cyanogenmod source. Not to mention you not only have to unlock the bootloader but also s-off the device if you wanna be able to flash roms away from a computer. HTC one x had a big problem with achieving s-off for a couple months too....
HTC one looks good as do most htcs, but if you want dome aosp deving its def not the device to go for IMHO
Btw, long time no talk guys I'm still trying to decide on my next device as I'm due for an upgrade as well...

I'm personally leaning towards the SIV... about the same size as the Infuse, except a 5 inch screen+quad core+2gb ram....

I love my infuse but upgrade time came about two weeks ago and I went for the note2 and its awesome!!!! once you start using it you really appreciate the size of the screen it just makes doing everyday things on the phone easier and more enjoyable. I was also on the fence about waiting for the s4 but I went for the bigger screen and battery

I'm up for upgrade too and was looking at the HTC phones. I like the solid metal feel, but I guess I should reconsider. What would you recommend especially regarding development friendliness? (Samsung? LG? I know the Nexus is great for that) I'm not opposed to waiting for a while. I am extremely content with the active and awesome development work on here.
Is the large size of the Note 2 inconvenient at all? My beloved Infuse already takes up most of my pocket
I'll likely get a nexus4 or an iPhone. I'm tired of waiting for 3rd parties to support devices when the motivation is to make you buy a new one.
My wife has an atrix 4g, and still on stock 2.3. It's buggy to say the least.
I have a nexus 7, and didn't even feel the need to root it until recently. Stock actually works, and doesn't leave you wanting much more.
Sure, our infuses still work. We can flash firmware beyond 2.3, but the lack of official support means that some things are broken and will never be fixed... HDMI, 720p, etc.

Been debating getting the N2 for a while.. Just not sure if I want to get it 5 months into its life. But honestly, compared to the GS4, the only thing really better to me at least is the 1080p display which is more of just a number selling point almost. Been out of contract for like 3 months now and getting ready to pull the trigger...
Blackberry Z10 or Q10.
I was playing with the BB Z10 the other day and it looks like they have a winner on their hands.
