Why did my phone lose 57% battery overnight? - General Questions and Answers

Sorcery 4.2, fancy kernel 28. I had wifi turned off and data off. I also use greenify. I haven't been charging because the usb port is broken. I tried every governor available and every night within 5.5 hours i lost 57%.
How would you recommend i go about diagnosing?

You can get it in the play store, yes working my way to 10 posts

maybe your connection or app still running.
try callibrate, maybe help.

you are using the stock ROM or unofficial ROM
1. if you have stock ROM would be better to change the ROM (if you like) to see if the battery drain presents some change.
2. If you have an unofficial ROM has the same, it is possible that ROM you are using is not well optimized and causing the problem.
3. if nothing changes, you should explore about the current wear of your battery.

I think there was an article by a Google dev months ago that said calibrating didn't do anything. Or was that wiping stats?
What do you mean by my connection? I have data turned off and Wi-Fi too

I don't think either one really does anything. I read the article as well and was told by a few people that calibrating doesn't really do anything.

Search "betterbatterystats" no spaces and is the first result. I ran sourcery for a long time and it was pretty solid going into deep sleep.

Custom Rom & kernel
You didn't include info on what rom you are running. Some custom roms do not take into consideration that people actually want to use their phones. Same thing with custom kernels. I noticed you did list you were using a custom kernel. It is the same thing as roms. Devs don't think about that as it can be solved with apps such as juice defender. That is a great battery saving app. -Hope it Helps

Besides the suggestion above, you can also try WIPE BATTERY STAT from recovery mode and do a factory reset
After that download BatteryCalibration from Play store and follow the instructions and see how it goes
May be your kernel also is an big issue since drop so much percentage

apps work at background even if you don't use it. Try to install Advanced Task Killer at the Playstore, or if the phone drains ur battery too much, than just turn it off and wait for a minute and reboot it.

New personal battery whore record

It's well known I like to be a battery whore, my previous record was a little over 48 hours on a full charge with my Infuse. Today I beat my old record by about....20 hrs!
All notifications off except Gmail. 3g data turned off for about 80% of the time. Wifi on but set to turn off when phone sleeps. I did use the phone, text, talk, surf, etc. Probably would be considered light usage though.

Yea no offense when people give battery stats they give them when they've actually used their phone. Of course a battery will last longer if it's not being used or if no notifications are actually being used. Those are what eat the battery

I never use notifications, never will. This is my normal usage pattern. As I said in the OP, I do use the phone.
Get rooted and remove blot wear
Best way in some sense to get great battery life is get rooted, use Excellent Roms that removes all bloatware and find any apps that are continually running in background and remove them. (Tip) Get titanium backup and backup your apps then remove them but if you need later then reinstall them for future use. Just a few things to mention, so much more to add to save battery. I suggest you just use your phone and try and save in other ways that will extend you daily use.
How much screen on time? That's generally the best measure of battery life, because if your screen isn't on, you're not really using your phone. And a percent usage tells nothing.
My infuse is currently going on 12 days, 14 hours, 16 minutes, 7 seconds since last unplugged with 1 hour 28 minutes of screen on time. That being said, it's because I use it purely as a backup alarm clock without a sim card now that I have my Note, haha. And no, I'm not going to go to the hassle of rooting, downloading a screenshot app, then waiting another 12-14 days to prove it. Just goes to show that battery life doesn't mean much without usage.
Was it with a stock battery

Really? I have yet to see anyone on the leak get their CPU to actually go to sleep. Uptimes and real uptimes are always identical. The CPU doesn't sleep......ever. I have an extended battery and have a setCPU profile to WAY underclock it when the screen times out, but the CPU never truly goes to sleep. I am managing, but it is going through my battery life faster than normal (even in airplane mode it drains).

How much battery drain do you get?
I am always on WiFi / 3g with stamina mode on and I only get about 8-9 hours
Sent from my Xperia L using XDA-developers app
Even I'm searching for the guide since days!
Btw, does flash work while the HDR is on for you guys?
Just bought this phone yesterday, I like it very much so far.
@ Ash: Flash doesn't work with HDR mode on my Xperia L.
@ ishanbhatnagr96: On my first run, most of the time fiddling with it, I got around 11 hours with it (from 100% to 10%). I'll have to test some more.
I get around 1.5 days backup with Data mostly on with stamina mode. I've disabled trash bloatware and I try to prevent that ****ty media scanner wake lock. My screentime is pretty high and so is music time (mediaserver).
Hey Aayush, can u please tell me how did u prevent that media scanner wake lock?
I couldn't prevent it but it seems reduced. Whenever I switch Data On/Off, 'Phone' app appears in recent app tab, i always swipe that.

I've been trying to squeeze out as much battery backup as possible since S2 days. I've learnt that Android keeps some background processes running even when you don't want it to. You can control that by using apps like Autostarts or Greenify but you need root. I use Greenpower Premium app, too. Disable notifications in FB app and it'll eat surprisingly less battery. And if you use Twitter, look at better and less power consuming alternatives. There are many small tricks one could follow. I charged my phone yesterday and it'll already been over 24 hours and I still have 42%battery left. ~4-5hours of screen on time. And 1-2 hours of music. I also use Apex launcher instead of Xperia Launcher and AOSP 4.2 keyboard. Huge AOSP fan, but it also saves some battery

[Q]Battery drains very fast

Hello developers
I fully charged my battery last night before I go to sleep, but when I got up this morning, I found that my battery just got 25% remained.
Last this situation happened was about two month ago.
My battery is the original one with my phone.
Oh, I change a battery from HTC because the first one is dead in somehow I don't know.
So, is there anyone know how to resolve this problem?
Thanks for any help.

Text is in something I can't read (probably Taiwanese ? ) but from what I can tell, the CPU of the phone stays at 100% all the time.
There's just no way the screen could use that much power when it's turned OFF the whole night, unless you have a defective board, which would need to be replaced.
If you didn't install any apps that could cause this (meaning this happened as soon as you bought the phone) it appears to be a problem with the firmware's power management, meaning it has none
Flash another stock or custom firmware and that should fix it, just make sure its any other firmware than the one you currently have.
That's my opinion, based on what I can see and on my experience (I'm not a developer).

Thanks for the reply.
In the battery usage page, it never shows how much do apps use battery...
But, with my experience, I got to say this problem happens randomly...
Then,I found that reboot my phone can solve the problem like a magic trick.

Oh... Forgot one thing to say,
I bricked my phone few weeks ago...
So I send it to HTC for repair, then I got a new motherboard inside my old phone , and since the motherboard is new...
So I think the problem may not caused by the motherboard.

I'm glad you managed to get it to work. But if rebooting it fixes the problem, then it might be because of a bad ROM. Try a re-flash or take it back to HTC and explain it to them.
Over-charging the phone will kill the battery and it might even cause it to inflate or blow-up. That's how accidents happen
ASK
hey, is battery saver app in PS works perfectly?? or just make android laggy.
Dude , rebooting is not a perfect solution . Just changes the battery with an other one . Some times your changed battery will makes this all mistakes .
Did you oveclocked your htc?? Ovrer overclocking may cause this problem . Well Check and install a new kernal .
Click thanks if I helped

Seems like a problem that the rom causes. You can try powering off the phone, removing the battery for at least 10-15 seconds and then put it back in and see the results (that's similar to the wipe battery stats option in recoveries). If that doesn't work, the only sonution is to flash another rom, whether it's a stock or a custom one.
Use greenify so the battery won't drain fast

G Flex 2 battery life discussion

Lets talk about battery life.
I for one am getting terrible battery life. I use the at&t variant 100% stock and unrooted, I get maybe 8 hours of use with 2 hours of screen on time if I'm lucky. I only have a few apps like Facebook , clash of clans, imdb and a weather app that has sync turned off. Maybe someone can provide some suggestions for me to try and track down my issue.

I do not have this phone myself, but I am thinking of buying it. Your best bet would be to root and debloat any unnecessary ATT software. I had the first flex and ATT had so many preinstalled apps. Second, would be to use a cpu control and change the frequencies or the governer. These are probably your only options until At&t decides to release 5.1

The only reason I haven't rooted yet is because I haven't found a way to return it to stock if things go bad.

Jeez, thats terrible! I have EU H955 version, 5.1.1, and i am always getting around 4h SOT. Never below 3,5 hrs, sometimes 4,5.
At first time battery life was extremely bad. What I did: I rooted, debloated using Titanium, then Greenify in root mode. There is one process named LG MLT that drains battery quickly, you should hibernate that one specially. Now phone runs cool and battery last much longer.
I noticed a big change when i changed the way the phone uses positioning service to only use gps instead of also using wifi and celluar network.
I'm getting around 3 hours screen on time, and even managed to play a little hearthstone (this game drains battery like hell)
All of this with the new 5.1 update
Wanna like this phone, but battery is concerning. My huawei mate 7 would still have 60% around this time Of day. I'm at 38% now with still 2 hours to go...

What about SoT? I can buy G3 32gb for 330e or this for 365e, but I read a lot about bad battery life, even worts that G3, and a lot of other bugs and heat problems, are they fixed with 5.1 and is battery better with 5.1, some ss? Thanks, anyone can answer.
The battery life on mine was a little better b4 the update. I used to get almost 2 full days with light to moderate use. I posted screenshots a while ago somewhere here. It's slightly worse after I updated to 5.1.1 but still can get a whole 24 - 30 hrs no problem. I'm on Sprint though.
Yah i just upgraded to 5.1.1 (available since yesterday for me) and the battery life is way better. I do to have auto-sync turned off though. Been using for 12 hours so far and still at 70% 1.5 SOT so far played a game as well.

Hibernating lg mlt seems to have done the trick. Greenify with out root took care of it. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Note I get through the day with juice left. Any idea what that process does?

Just disabled mlt. Hopefully that helps with battery life.
I am getting 2 days of use, with probable only like 3 hours of SOT. For me, more than acceptable, but I have noticed, BT kills this thing. If I stream in the car, forget it, it won't last half a day. Even when idle, if BT is on it's a drain.
I can't find it, where's it located
