[Q] Root Xperia L (C2104) - General Questions and Answers

Got this phone about a week ago and already in love with this wonderful phone Only problem, there are many unnecessary apps on it and i need to delete them and this would require root! All i need to do is root this device. I can't find any forum for this on XDA possibly because this might not have released in some parts of the world!
Help would be appreciated

Ishan

The phone was just released this month. I think all you need is some patience, it's a very young phone now.

How much battery drain do you get?
I am always on WiFi / 3g with stamina mode on and I only get about 8-9 hours
Sent from my Xperia L using XDA-developers app

Even I'm searching for the guide since days!
Btw, does flash work while the HDR is on for you guys?

Just bought this phone yesterday, I like it very much so far.
@ Ash: Flash doesn't work with HDR mode on my Xperia L.
@ ishanbhatnagr96: On my first run, most of the time fiddling with it, I got around 11 hours with it (from 100% to 10%). I'll have to test some more.

I get around 1.5 days backup with Data mostly on with stamina mode. I've disabled trash bloatware and I try to prevent that ****ty media scanner wake lock. My screentime is pretty high and so is music time (mediaserver).

Hey Aayush, can u please tell me how did u prevent that media scanner wake lock?

I couldn't prevent it but it seems reduced. Whenever I switch Data On/Off, 'Phone' app appears in recent app tab, i always swipe that.

I've been trying to squeeze out as much battery backup as possible since S2 days. I've learnt that Android keeps some background processes running even when you don't want it to. You can control that by using apps like Autostarts or Greenify but you need root. I use Greenpower Premium app, too. Disable notifications in FB app and it'll eat surprisingly less battery. And if you use Twitter, look at better and less power consuming alternatives. There are many small tricks one could follow. I charged my phone yesterday and it'll already been over 24 hours and I still have 42%battery left. ~4-5hours of screen on time. And 1-2 hours of music. I also use Apex launcher instead of Xperia Launcher and AOSP 4.2 keyboard. Huge AOSP fan, but it also saves some battery

Yes but there are a few problems.
You can not change anything in the system or else your phone will re-boot. Nothing serious

You'll be able to, soon, have patience. And disable them for the time being, I've disabled over 20 apps. Sony has a buttload of Bloatware that eats battery. XL would have grrrrreat battery backup with CM.

Kobo Arc

I don't know if I'm putting this in the correct place and if I'm wrong, I'm sorry. I haven't seen anyone talking about the new tablet the book company Kobo is about to launch. It seems quite good though? What do you think? http://www.kobo.com/koboarc

Yeah it's quite fast, and very cheap.
What is a bugger is that without GPS it won't install a lot of apps from the Google Play Store.
And I hope someone here will root it, so I can make it connect to an ad-hoc Symbian WiFi tether... who knows what the future will bring..

Also... a doubt: can you tell us if the Arc have built-in USB OTG support?
Nice finally some activity about the Kobo Arc, I tried a few basic rooting methods but I've never really did that by myself before so I'm not sure how to go about it if anyone can find a root method it would be great! So far I really like the tablet for the price you really can't go wrong and I like to screen better the nexus 7
Wow. Thanks for your replies. There isn't an Arc forum on XDA for me to post right? These thread is in the right place I hope?

No, there aren't forum (or not yet, I mean )
got one sitting in a box wrapped for Christmas. wife won't let me open it:laugh:been trying to get some more info on it on the MobileRead forums which has a Kobo section. for some reason everyone so far is having trouble getting flash to work. afaik flash should still be working on 4.0.4 and i would like to know if it is before i open the box. not fussed about GPS but would like flash working as i use apps like TVCatchup
I just read that the UX lead for Kobo has confirmed no OTG source
now I'm on the fence about getting it
It's still running 4.0.4. Wasn't otg not enabled on a number of devices with jelly bean

I don't think the android version affects whether otg is supported on a certain device. It depends on the hardware and software capabilities

I was given an Arc for Christmas. Nice piece of kit.
We will probably need more than 20 posts before getting a dedicated forum
For everyone else, I am also (half ass'd) working on a root for it...When time permits.
I right away installed go launcher for tablets and got rid of the stock "tapiture" or whatever they call it. Much more usable as a tablet now

Port our device to some nice third party firmware! I'd love to see CM10 running on our Arc. (I work for Kobo :3)
I do know our programmers are working on a 4.1 update sometime in January though. And yes, installing a launcher to disable tapestries and the discover bar really does make it a beautiful tablet. I personally use ADW launcher on all of my Android devices though. Looks great and it's quite fast.

Why did my phone lose 57% battery overnight?

Sorcery 4.2, fancy kernel 28. I had wifi turned off and data off. I also use greenify. I haven't been charging because the usb port is broken. I tried every governor available and every night within 5.5 hours i lost 57%.
How would you recommend i go about diagnosing?

You can get it in the play store, yes working my way to 10 posts
maybe your connection or app still running.
try callibrate, maybe help.
you are using the stock ROM or unofficial ROM
1. if you have stock ROM would be better to change the ROM (if you like) to see if the battery drain presents some change.
2. If you have an unofficial ROM has the same, it is possible that ROM you are using is not well optimized and causing the problem.
3. if nothing changes, you should explore about the current wear of your battery.

Custom Rom & kernel
You didn't include info on what rom you are running. Some custom roms do not take into consideration that people actually want to use their phones. Same thing with custom kernels. I noticed you did list you were using a custom kernel. It is the same thing as roms. Devs don't think about that as it can be solved with apps such as juice defender. That is a great battery saving app. -Hope it Helps

Besides the suggestion above, you can also try WIPE BATTERY STAT from recovery mode and do a factory reset
After that download BatteryCalibration from Play store and follow the instructions and see how it goes
May be your kernel also is an big issue since drop so much percentage

All this happened when I was sleeping. I forgot I had titanium set to run. I'm not sure what it all means. Lightflow for example is awake for 12s, but what's the number 652? 12s doesn't seem bad...and how is Google search working when I'm asleep?

apps work at background even if you don't use it. Try to install Advanced Task Killer at the Playstore, or if the phone drains ur battery too much, than just turn it off and wait for a minute and reboot it.

This phone isn't cheap, but you guys aren't willing to spend $2 on an app that allows you to customise your phone to a whole new level with an amazing dev that takes feedback and implements requests if it can be done?

Great App, but....
I love the app, but after installing it on my G3, I noticed that it really started to lag while switching from screen to screen, or even when typing something, it would take a few seconds to show up. I removed it and havent had lag issues since. Not sure if its something else going on causing it, but the app itself is amazing, just wish my phone would work without the lag.

There should be no correlation between the lag and G3 TWB. I have used TWB on 2 different mode G3's and it doesn't create lag. I would check to see if there is something else causing the lag.

I don't really think its an issue with app itself, but couldn't figure out what else would be interfering with it, so I just deleted the most obvious thing.
Wish I could figure out what else would cause it, cause I would love to have the app back.

No im not the post police lol Everyone has a sense of humour, myself included..believe it or not. I was in no way having a personal go at u. I apologise if u feel u were being made fun of. I just don't see the point in making pointless posts. It just takes all the longer for anyone actually trying to search and read thru the forums/posts when they are spammed with irrelevant comments.
If everyone would just take the time to search and read before posting, everyone's experience here would be so much better.

G Flex 2 battery life discussion

Lets talk about battery life.
I for one am getting terrible battery life. I use the at&t variant 100% stock and unrooted, I get maybe 8 hours of use with 2 hours of screen on time if I'm lucky. I only have a few apps like Facebook , clash of clans, imdb and a weather app that has sync turned off. Maybe someone can provide some suggestions for me to try and track down my issue.

I do not have this phone myself, but I am thinking of buying it. Your best bet would be to root and debloat any unnecessary ATT software. I had the first flex and ATT had so many preinstalled apps. Second, would be to use a cpu control and change the frequencies or the governer. These are probably your only options until At&t decides to release 5.1

The only reason I haven't rooted yet is because I haven't found a way to return it to stock if things go bad.

Jeez, thats terrible! I have EU H955 version, 5.1.1, and i am always getting around 4h SOT. Never below 3,5 hrs, sometimes 4,5.
At first time battery life was extremely bad. What I did: I rooted, debloated using Titanium, then Greenify in root mode. There is one process named LG MLT that drains battery quickly, you should hibernate that one specially. Now phone runs cool and battery last much longer.
I noticed a big change when i changed the way the phone uses positioning service to only use gps instead of also using wifi and celluar network.
I'm getting around 3 hours screen on time, and even managed to play a little hearthstone (this game drains battery like hell)
All of this with the new 5.1 update
Wanna like this phone, but battery is concerning. My huawei mate 7 would still have 60% around this time Of day. I'm at 38% now with still 2 hours to go...

What about SoT? I can buy G3 32gb for 330e or this for 365e, but I read a lot about bad battery life, even worts that G3, and a lot of other bugs and heat problems, are they fixed with 5.1 and is battery better with 5.1, some ss? Thanks, anyone can answer.
The battery life on mine was a little better b4 the update. I used to get almost 2 full days with light to moderate use. I posted screenshots a while ago somewhere here. It's slightly worse after I updated to 5.1.1 but still can get a whole 24 - 30 hrs no problem. I'm on Sprint though.
Yah i just upgraded to 5.1.1 (available since yesterday for me) and the battery life is way better. I do to have auto-sync turned off though. Been using for 12 hours so far and still at 70% 1.5 SOT so far played a game as well.

Hibernating lg mlt seems to have done the trick. Greenify with out root took care of it. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Note I get through the day with juice left. Any idea what that process does?

Just disabled mlt. Hopefully that helps with battery life.
I am getting 2 days of use, with probable only like 3 hours of SOT. For me, more than acceptable, but I have noticed, BT kills this thing. If I stream in the car, forget it, it won't last half a day. Even when idle, if BT is on it's a drain.
I can't find it, where's it located

T-Mobile has confirmed Marshmallow for Note 5

Take this with a grain of salt but the Software Updates page at T-Mobile has been updated and the Note 5 is on there. Now we all knew that it would be updated to Marshmallow but maybe this is a sign that we will see it sooner than later.

When this is released by T-Mobile will i need to un-root to get the OTA update? If so, will there be a root in the works for Android M? I am rooted on 5.1.1 BOH6 with Arter97 Kernel, Xposed and the latest TWRP. Just curious thanks for all the hard work devs.
My reason for asking is probably the same as anyone else. I want the newest OS but I want to keep the tweaks made possible through root such as, modifying the build.prop file to fix the RAM leak, better battery life through titanium back up by freezing apps and adding some features by editing the /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db in SQLite Editor
Great, get ready for all the complaining about the update not being fast enough to arrive. Only to be followed up with complaints about how the update made the phone slow and the battery drain.

Also "do I have to unroot" for OTA, like someone already asked.

Yes, if you want to get OTA updates the phone cannot be rooted.
Good luck,
Have a great evening!
You won't have to unroot to update. Not with smart switch on your computer, however it will unroot your phone, and generally when android updates a whole system, root is lost till someone figures it out, when kit Kat first came out root took forever

Funny when I read that I was like wow no matter what forum I am a part of these sad to say but real bad (tried to keep it clean) questions get asked. Come on people do your research before you root. Also how do you expect people to see into the future and answer what will happen down the line

Hi, I'm from the future. What was the user's question? </sarcasm>
Hopefully it can be ported for note 3.

Do you ever feel like you don't care either way unless they bring something new and innovative. As long as it works as designed, who cares.

Wow, that was quick. Tmobile has been pushing updates out pretty fast over the past year, so maybe we'll see it this month.
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
Edit: I think that's wrong. If you click testing phase it brings the pink line over to testing, if you click completed it brings it all the way over. If you click note 5 under the updates, it shows that it's still under manufacturing development
still shows manufacturer development for me.... hopefully changes.. .the marshmallow leak has been pretty stable, but it occasionally reboots while on calls still.

Not to be an ass, but your not understanding how to use the site, you have the scroll down to your phone then it tells you which stage it's in. What your showing is examples. We're still in manufacturer development

Save your finger until Mid-Late January.
International versions updated by Samsung haven't even gotten it, and historically they get it a month or more before the carriers in the US release theirs.
