hi guys i'm pretty new to android, i've switched from ios lately.
And my question is that on ios when we jailbreak our iPhones we have something called Cydia where we can install all the crazy stuff (system tweaks,apps that can't be published on the appstore,themes, and a lot of other things).
So i was wondering where can i find something similar to that on android. Is there an app or a list or a thread on xda where can i read the tweak description and install it?
thanks in advance
First of all, welcome to the Android world. In order to better assist you a bit more information is needed. What Device ? What Android version ? What Recovery ? What carrier ? Rooted / Non-Rooted ?
my phone is sony xperia z2 running kitkat 4.4.2 and it's unlocked.
it is not rooted and i haven't installed a custom recovery yet but if i need to do so i don't have a problem.
thanks for the welcome.
The links below should get you going in the right direction. The first link is more of a General get to know Android terms, and such. The second is on how to Flash a Rom, and Root. Again general info. The last two are the Specific Forum for your device, and the Section to look for Roms. I would highly advice spending some time reading, and acquainting yourself with the processes, and terminology before proceeding. Best of luck .

Hi developers, I have this Sony phone and there is no custom ROM for this device yet and I would like to create one for my own use and possibly made it available for others if I am successful. I am so tired of the bloated software which I can't get rid of that I don't care about bricking this phone anymore.
Some years ago I used to fix computers, printers and networks for banks. I'm new in Android systems but not in computer systems. I did Install OS's like linux flavors or updated printer firmwares in my days so this is not new for me, I just want a little of a guidance to start.
I know how to root my Android system using the app called TOWEL ROOT (the only that has worked in this phone).
The next step that haven't done yet is unlocking the BOOTLOADER, which I don't find difficult to do according to what I have read so far.
My concern is: there is no custom ROM to install after the BOOTLOADER is unlocked, so if I want one I would have to build one. I've watched a tutorial on youtube and I've read the cyanogenmod wiki, but the amount of information is so huge that I got lost and frustrated and that's the help I ask. Could any of you tell me the information I need to read to understand how I could port a custom ROM to my device?
If more information is necessary I'll be glad to provide.
Nobody has made a custom rom for e1.make if you like.

I'm no expert here, but maybe you could try this: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_porting_intro
Your phone is fairly new and I'm pretty sure kernel sources are on Sony's website, so maybe one of you guys could give it a shot. I would, but I don't have an E1.
Hi there
I recently got an old Xperia S from a friend of mine, which I would like to revive and upgrade to Lollipop. I do not need any files on the phone and think that I wont be needing the DRM files neither. What I need is root access and a good ROM (that's stable and supports all special features of the Xperia S).
I've stumbled upon these: :angel:

* http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-s/s-development/pure-aosp-lollipop-t2940839
My question now, as I'm pretty darn new to the Android world, is: Do these ROMs fit my needs? If yes, which one should I go for?; and if not, what other ROMs could I use?
Thanks in advance
I've been going with the first one, the nAOSP 5.1 ROM. Flashing and everything worked out just fine, but my wifi isn't working. I see the available networks and am able to enter my credentials but after that it just switches between "authenticating" and "connection beeing established". Did I miss out on anything here? What's my mistake? :angel:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. I think the best idea would be to have a quick look through the last ten pages in the ROM thread and the q&a thread for the ROM to see is anyone else is reporting the same issue. That way you can be sure that the developers are aware and are working on the problem. If nobody else is reporting it then it's probably a good idea to report it yourself.

Hi all!
I have to ask this, I have searched for days and days over, buThe all in vain
I want to upgrade to lollipop, but it seems as if I can not do that. So to either douse the my passionate flames, or to spice them up a little, I would like to ask you all;
Is there, or will there be any upgrades for Xperia M2 Aqua? They can be something like AOSP.
Also, I would like to ask one more thing;
Would it be possible for someone, if they have a working build on his/her phone, to possibly upload it or share it? It would make my day!
Thank you for reading this and consider this as real questions and request
Sincerely
Anders
I asking this because I have tried the "Eagle" build on my D2403, but it ain't working, it won't start, only vibrates and then turns off right away.
So I decided to read about codenames, and it seems like m2 Aqua (D2403) got the codename "Seahawk". I would like anyone of you to confirm if this is true or not?
And now I will go back to follow this thread as I really do want to try Lollipop

Kind of "fun" how this thread have over 100 views, yet no answer what so ever.
Some research, and in my build.prop it mention both eagle and Seahawk for this phone.
So which one is it, or is it a bit of both?
And there will be no official upgrade to m2 aqua (D2403).
But I have yet no answer to as to why the Eagle build for Lollipop is not working on my phone.
And this have raised another question;
Can a kernel to 4.4.4 work with 5.0 or does it have to be tailored for 5.0?
Edit:
I should mention that I have had a bad day and lost my temper a bit, and if anyone take the first part in a bad way, I am sorry!
I should also mention that I have tried AOSP android Eagle build, and Unofficial CM12.1 build from the same site. Fxpblog or something like that.

Even if this thread has 100 views, what does it mean? It could mean a lot of this but the most accurate ones would be that either :
This forum is for eagle and these 100 views are the users of the eagle and not seahawk so they are allowed to not know the answer for your questions. Second thing, even if theres some views of people that have seahawk, they may not know the answers for your questions (maybe they are not rooted, or they never tried a custom ROM, that's just two causes). Also questions like this repeats over and over again so either the users or the devs don't want to repeat themselves. Even if a Dev would reply here, he'd probably tell you to search the forum first.
And now, I can't answer your questions myself because I own the eagle not seahawk, but from experience I can tell that it's not a good idea to flash a ROM for specific phone onto another phone (even if m2 and m2 aqua are theoretically the same) because it may end up with a bootloop etc. Now if it is possible to cross flash the ROM, than I would say that you missed some point of the procedure you should have taken to flash lp on the aqua, the most frequent cause of the bootloops are improperly flashed ROMs. Now, by this I mean you could have forgotten to wipe the phone, or wipe cache memory. Don't hate me for what I said, because I'm really not sure how to answer your questions. Peace

Hi everyone, I've a technical question that a few devs from specific forums are unable to answer thus I'm hoping for more insight here.
The Xperia M2, T2U, and C3 share the same hardware (SnapDragon 400). As far as I know, framework files and recovery works without a hitch on all of them.
My question is would a kernel for one device work on each of them as well? I know that a custom ROM will definitely brick the device if it uses the wrong device tree so I'm wondering if the kernel follows suit as well.
