[Q] Stop gallery from scanning my music folders? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a few album arts in my music folders, but I want to stop them from showing up in the gallery. I tried putting a .nomedia file in, BUT then the big problem is that play music doesn't show my music anymore.
Any ideas how to solve this?

I don't use the stock Gallery app for displaying my pictures. A much more powerful and useful gallery app is QuickPic, which I definitely recommend. On top of many other features, you can choose to exclude specific folders/directories so they don't appear as one of your albums. This should solve your problem.

[Q] Gallery and Music player issue

Hey guys,
My gallery doesn't display the pictures that i have in my SD card. The stock music player has the same problem with music (Cant locate them).
Ive first encountered this problem with my stock ROM and then Ive upgraded to Modaco's Gr14, and the same issue is there.
Is there a way to force the gallery and music player to search???
Not sure if it's even possible at to happen on the stock ROM, mount the sdcard on your computer, check if there's any ".nomedia" file, remove them if you find any. Also if you have "Dev tools" in your drawer (might be a CM7 feature, can't remember), there's Media Scan, which I think forces a manual scan.
Thanks Si_NZ , really appreciated, I just deleted ".nomedia" files and my photos started to appear in my gallery and music in my music player.

[Q] Android Music Database

I am looking for some clarification on how Android generates the Music DB and in particular how it displays track and album info and artwork. Right now I have some music in a "Music" folder on the root of my sdcard. There are several tracks directly in that folder, and some others organized into subfolders by artist or album. I'm having several problems getting the info to display properly.
My first issue is album artwork. Does Android display artwork that is embedded in the file? Some of them are showing up correctly and some are showing album covers from other tracks. Some of the things I've read suggested that everything be organized in folders by Album and to have an AlbumArt.jpg in each folder. While this is doable, I haven't gotten around to reorganizing my library and would rather the phone just read artwork from the file. I have checked the id3 tags of some of the problem tracks, both with an app on the phone, and from my pc, and everything (including artwork) looks fine. Both the stock music player and several 3rd party players are displaying the information incorrectly and identical so it seems to me like Android is caching the data incorrectly. I've tried to delete the albumthumbs folder on the sdcard as well as Settings->Manage Applications->Media Storage->Clear Data. It just gets regenerated incorrectly.
I think this is related to my next problem. It seems like the tracks that do not reside in their own album folders and sit directly in the Music folder are having the most problems. In particular the songs where there is no Album field in the id3 tags. The phone seems to think these all belong to the album "Music" - must be resorting to looking at the containing directory if no album is found in the tags. What's odd is that even though it thinks several tracks belong to this Music album, its now showing the same artwork for each of them.
What is the ideal way to organize music for playback on Android? Would sorting everything info folders by Album solve my problems? Do I need to make sure I don't have any blank Album tags?
On a side note, is anyone familiar with how iTunes stores its Album art? I'm looking for an easy way to maintain consistency between my iTunes library and what is on my phone. I'm thinking of developing a small application that can scan both libraries and detect differences to keep them synchronized. All of my music is on my old Macbook which I hardly use, but I listen to it pretty much exclusively on my Android phone. The problem is we also have an iPad that I'd like to keep the music on so I can't ditch iTunes entirely.
Thanks for any advice.

Gallery with album art

So, I've searched but found no solid answers. Is there any application that hides it from showing in the normal gallery view without it affecting the pictures showing up in the music players. I know of Gallery Lock and another but they hide it completely and don't allow it to show up in the music players as artwork.
tl;dr: want app that hides artwork from the default gallery viewer.

[Q] google music app

Hello,
I have a nexus 5 with android 5.01 and google Music version 5.7.1788Q.1634597
i found Music app cannot show the album art of all albums which all has a cover.jpg in the same folder of the music files (flac).
however, i have a xperia sp which has CM11 and same Music version, it can display the all cover art with the same set of folders i put into nexus 5.
anyone has any idea of this problem?
thanks!
Joseph
You can try to change album cover in Windows Media Player and then sync your music.
does anyone else have the problem that some (seemingly) random songs are shown one specific album art image instead of their own?
i dont work with folder, i have every music file tagged with the album art. usually 500x500 pixel. however for some songs android decides to just pick a random album art from another song and show it with them.

Yep.Dont know if its the app or album fault.
Hi i just delete all the Music app data and cache ... kind of force it to re load my library then it can show the album art correctly....
you can try in your case.

[Q] How do I hide audio files that aren't music?

On the stock lg music app every audio file is displayed and played and thats the problem. I have a lot of games with audio files that show up in the music app and I don't want them disrupting the vibe (I also have my ringtones in a separate folder from music) so is there any way to hide those files and take them away from the music app (preferably without creating a .nomedia file) I am rooted
I had a similar problem with the music player and Gallery apps was pulling in the cover art as well.
Easiest would be to probably be to use a 3rd party app that allows you to specify which folders to search. It would likely be just /sdcard/Music and maybe /sdcard/Downloads. PowerAmp does this, I know.
Cool I downloaded Poweramp and it hides thing from the stock app too but I have a separate folder that I put my ringtones in and those are still visible and Poweramp doesn't detect it as a folder
