5. ODEX AND DEODEX
Q: What is odex and deodex ?
A: Taken from R_a_z_v_a_n's thread,
ODEX : In Android file system, applications come in packages with the extension .apk. These application packages, or APKs contain certain .odex files whose supposed function is to save space. These ‘odex’ files are actually collections of parts of an application that are optimized before booting. Doing so speeds up the boot process, as it preloads part of an application,
DEODEX : Deodexing is basically repackaging of these APKs in a certain way, such that they are reassembled into classes.dex files. By doing that, all pieces of an application package are put together back in one place,
The advantage of deodexing is in modification possibilities. This is most widely used in custom ROMs and themes. A developer building a custom ROM would almost always choose to deodex the ROM package first, since that would not only allow him to modify various APKs, but also leave room for post-install theming. On the other hand, since the .odex files were supposed to quickly build the dalvik cache, removing them would mean longer initial boot times. However, this is true only for the first ever boot after deodexing, since the cache would still get built over time as applications are used. Longer boot times may only be seen again if the dalvik cache is wiped for some reason.
Here you have the Jelly Bean ROMs Deodexed and Zipaligned.

[9001][GUIDE][NOOBFRIENDLY]Starter-Guide[STOPPED]

I´m not responsible for what you do! This guide could “destroy” your phone if you do something different how it is explained!!!
I do not have any claim of fullness! If here should be any mistakes feel free to correct me!
Support is now stopped, read this post for more details...
Hi folks
I saw that here is missing a basic guide for our device, then I noticed that we have get a lot of new members, too!
This guide will be so noobfriendly that even my grandmother will understand it
I will try to answer here every question and I will add it then to the front page. I will answer very kindly, too! So feel free to ask everything =)
Please follow each step, don´t skip any step and do all exactly how I explain it...
Must haves:
Following things are must haves for every I9001 phone. In this guide I will explain how to get them on YOUR phone.
Most things will be installed automated by a installation of a custom rom, which is then more easily for you to get them!
Busybox
USB-Debugging
Clockworkmod
Root
Deodex
1. Basics:
About Roms:
What is a Rom:
The whole system of your phone is a rom. Windows 7 is a Rom for your computer (just a metaphor)
A rom contains different sections:
boot.img (kernel)
system.img (the main-system)
recovery.img (recovery mode)cache.img (caches)
Stock-Rom:
The Stock-Rom is the system which Samsung is delivering to the store. Samsung built this rom from the google sources and changed android they way they like it.
The stock-rom is the original rom of your phone!
You can find a lot of stock roms in the Index or just here in the dev forum
Custom-Rom:
A custom-rom is a modified rom which has different improvements. The base can be of a stock rom or it is an AOSP-Rom.
You can find a lot of custom roms here in the forum or just visit the Index
AOSP-Rom:
This is a Custom-Rom too, but the base is built from the sources of Google. The advantages are that there is not any garbage, it is more stable and it has more functionality. But the disadvantage is that it is hard to build and it will take long time for being bug free.
Basic knowledge:
What are Tweaks:
Tweaks are changing values in the system. Tweaks ussually improves the whole system
Kernel Description:
The Kernel is a piece of software which controls everything on your system.
The kernel controls the cpu with the governor. The governor decides the behavior of the cpu, like when the cpu has to be on the max. clock or when it has to be on the min. clock.
The kernel controls the ram and sd-card behavior with the scheduler. The scheduler decides how long a process should be saved in the ram and it influences the sd-card read and write speed.
The kernel controls the voltage of the battery on a specific cpu clock, too
The kernels which are offered here are oc (overclocked), UV (under volted), they add new governors and scheduler and the add the init.d support.
Init.d makes it possible to launch tweaks at the boot of the phone if they are in the init.d folder (system/etc/init.d).
A description of governors and scheduler are here and here
You can change the governor and scheduler with AnTuTu CPU Master
I recommend strongly to change the kernel because it improves your system immense, but in the other hand the car cardle will not work anymore with these kernels.
Only Stock Kernel and the stock kernel with init.d support the car cardle
At the moment are following kernel popular:
Skyhigh
Feamod
Vitality
Stock Kernel with Init.d - KQ7
Bloadware:
Bloadware are apps which nobody needs. Samsung implement them in their stock roms. When they are removed there will be more free space for other apps and more ram will be available
Brick:
Your phone is bricked when it can not boot anymore.
There are two types bricks
Soft Brick:
When your phone is soft bricked it can cause a boot-loop (the reboot-procedure begins always as new) or your phone will stick in the boot.
Soft bricks happen often by installing themes over a odex system (more informations in the 8. point)
You can solve soft bricks easily by installing a new rom with the clockworkmod or with odin (more informations in the 2. point)
Hard Brick:
When your phone is hard bricked it will not do anything. You will not be able to enter the clockworkmod or the downloadmode!
Hard bricks often happen by flashing roms of other phones or flashing bad custom roms (at the moment there aren´t any "bad" customs roms for our device)
You can solve SOMETIMES a hard brick with a JTAG. If the jtag could not help you have to send your phone to samsung for a expensive repair
Batterly life:
You can improve your battery life by changing the governor, the scheduler, turning off gps, bluetooth, wi-fi and by changing the brightness of your display.
You can improve your battery life too by changing the max. and min. clock of your cpu. But here is to say you have to find your personal middle way of performance and battery life settings.
Wipe:
A wipe is when you delete everything on your phone. It has the same meaning as "format" and "delete". How to wipe your phone is explained in the 6. point
Other Settings:
Animations:
In the default settings the animations are diactivated, but they look so nice that you have to activate them . If you want for example the old screen off you have to activate the animations.
How to activate animations:
Enter in the settings of your smart-phone
Select "display"
Choose "animation"
Choose "all animations"
Wi-Fi troubles:
If you face Wi-Fi troubles could this method solve your problems
Enter in the settings of your phone
Choose "Wirelless and network"
Choose "Wi-Fi settings"
Press the Menu-Button
Choose "Advanced"
Activate "use static IP"
Busybox:
Busybox is a collection of commands and functions for every android phone. Some custom roms will even not be working properly without Busybox! Normally Busybox will be installed automated by a custom rom installation , but if not you can install the .zip in the post #3 through Clockworkmod (detailed explanation for installing .zips with clockworkmod are in the 2. Point)
USB Settings:
What is USB-Debugging:
USB-Debugging is a function of Android. If it is enabled you will be able to use adb. Make sure that you have it always enabled because you will need it often and by the way it does not have any disadvantages
What is adb:
adb means: Android Debug Bridge
With adb you can change/edit/install files on your phone with your computer. Broodplank1337 made a big configurator which can do incredible things!
Configurator
How To use Adb is explained in this Tutorial
How to enable USB-Debugging:
Enter in the settings of your phone
Enter in the “Applications”
Enter in “Development”
Enable “USB-Debugging”
How to copy files on your internal SD card:
Make sure that you´ve got at least installed the USB Driver if not download them from the download section (if you have installed kies you got the USB Driver installed too)
Make sure that you have enabled USB-Debugging in the Settings of your phone
Connect now your device with your computer with the usb-wire
Now just pull down your status bar and select the usb notification then you choose "connect storage to PC"
Now you can copy files on your internal SD-card
Your internal SD-card is the storage with 5 GB
2. How to install every Rom/Kernel/Recovery/Mod:
General
If it is a zip file you have to install it with Clockworkmod Recovery. If it is a .tar or a .tar.md5 file you have to install it with Odin!
Odin:
What is Odin:
Odin is a program on windows where you can install custom roms and kernel during your phone is in the Download Mode. To use Odin you need the AriesVE.ops and the kernel or custom rom you want to install.
What is the Download Mode:
When you phone is in the Download Mode you will be able to flash kernel, roms, new recovery modes with Odin. You can only exit the Download Mode by taking of the battery or when odin finished flashing!
How to get in the Download Mode:
Please turn off your phone and wait until it is completely shut down
Press the Home-button + volume-down + power button until there is an android icon
(In post#2) is a Imagine which could help you)
Installing Custom Roms and Kernels with Odin

(In post#2) is a Imagine which could help you)
Recovery-Mode:
What is the Recovery Mode:
The Recovery Mode is like the BIOS of your computer. There you can manage your phone easily. The Stock Recovery Mode does not have a lot of functions, because of this there were made new recovery mode by good devs. A better recovery mode is the clockworkmod
What is the clockworkmod:
The clockworkmod is actually the most popular recovery mode. At the moment it is the most stable one, too
Other expressions for "clockworkmod":
"CWM"
"Recovery Mode"
"feamod"
What are the differences between Stock-Recovery Mod and Clockworkmod:
With the stock Recovery Mod you can just make a Factory Reset and install simple zip files. You will not be able to install custom roms!
With the clockworkmod you can backup, restore and format your system and install any custom rom
Do I need the Clockworkmod:
Yes it is a must have, you will not be able to install any custom rom or other mods
How to get in the stock-Recovery Mode:
Please turn off your phone and wait until it is completely shut down
Press please the power + the volume up button for 10 seconds
When you see a Box with an android icon press once the menu button to be able to use it
How to navigate in stock Recovery Mode:
Navigating:
Volume Up/Down
Selecting:
Home-Button
How to install the Clockworkmod:
Download:
AriesVE
Odin
FeaModRecovery 1.2
(downloadlinks are in post#3)

How to get in the Clockworkmod:
Please turn off your phone and wait until it is completely shut down
Press please the power + the volume up button for 10 seconds
How to navigate in Clockworkmod:
Navigating:
Volume Up/Down
Selecting:
Menu-Button
Back:
Back-Button
What is "mounting":
If you mount something you will be able to edit/delete/add files to your system. Developer always recommend to mount /system before installing a mod, because if you don´t do it the mod will not be installed successfully
How can I mount /system:
Enter in the Clockworkmod
Choose "mounts and storage"
Choose "mount /system"
It works with /data , /cache , /efs , /emmc , /sdcard ,too
How to install Custom Roms/Kernel/Recovery/Mods with the Clockworkmod:
Put the zip file on your external-card in a folder (Do not put it in a folder with starting with a ".")
Enter in the Clockworkmod
Choose “install zip from sdcard”
Choose “choose zip from sdcard”
Choose the .zip file and install it
Reboot
3. Root:
What is a Root:
You can compare "Root" with the "admin" on your computer or with a “Jailbreak” for Apple products. If you have "root" you can modify all on your system. If you have installed root there will be no more borders.
Other expressions for "root":
"superuser""su"
What can I do exactly with a Root:
Firstly you can backup your apps (will explain this later more precise)
You can change the cpu frequency (cpu=processor an electronic circuit which executes computer programs)
You can run every app which needs root access
Does the root pay up:
Yes it does because it is the first border to cross for having the best of your phone
How to install Root with Clockworkmod:
Download the root from post#3
Put the root.zip on your external-sd-card in a folder (Do not put it in a folder with starting with a ".")
Enter the Clockworkmod
Choose "install zip from sdcard"
Choose "choose zip from sdcard"
Choose the root.zip and install it
Reboot your phone
How to install Root with stock Recovery:
Download the root from post#3
Put it on your internal SD card. Please just copy it on your SD-card and NOT in any folder
Enter in the stock Recovery Mod
Then you choose “apply update” and you choose the root.zip and install it
Reboot then your Phone by choosing “rebooting”
How to Unroot:
Download the "unroot.zip" from post#3
Put the .zip on your external-sdcard in a folder
Enter in the clockworkmod/stock recovery mode
Install it like you installed the root.zip
4. How to Backup:
There are two ways of backing up your data.
With Titanium Backup:
Titanium Backup is an app which will only backup your apps
Titanium Backup is a free app but I recommend only the pro version, because the free is too slow
Your backup will be saved on you internal-card in:
/titanium backup/
With Clockworkmod:
With the clockworkmod you can backup your apps and your whole system with all settings. I prefer this method because it is simple and secure...
How to Backup in CWM:
Enter the Clockworkmod
Select “backup and restore”
Select “backup” and enjoy your backup
Your backup will be saved on your external-card in:
/clockworkmod/backup/
5. Restore:
How to restore the whole system:
Enter the Clockworkmod
Select “backup and restore”
Select “restore” and choose the date of your backup
How to restore only apps:
Before restoring you should always format your device! How to format is explained in the next point!
Enter the Clockworkmod
Select “backup and restore”
Select “advanced restore”
Choose the date of the backup
Choose “data”
6. How to format:
Do this every time before flashing a stock- or custom-rom!
Attention!
You will delete everything on your phone! Your phone will not even be able to boot! Only Clockworkmod and the Download-Mode will be left! (Your SIM-Card will be untouched)
Please make sure that you saved only your backups on another device before formatting your phone (like on your computer)
This is the best method for using the full experience of every custom rom! I recommend this method because in the past a lot of users had issues with custom roms. They had installed a lot of different custom roms before and they didn´t format their phone correctly before flashing the new rom. This caused a lot of problems
Enter in the Clockworkmod
Choose "advanced"
Choose "Wipe Dalvik Cache"
Go back to the main-menu by pressing the back button
Choose “Mounts and storage”
Select all after all
Format /system
Format /cache
Format /data
(Format /emmc)
(Format /sdcard)
Formating "emmc" and "sdcard" is not a duty! You will need it if you installed a mod on your internal or in your external card
7. Warranty:
What makes your warranty dissapear:
Root
Clockworkmod
Custom-Rom
Other Kernel
How to restore your warranty:
You can restore warranty easily, you have just to flash the stock-rom which was on your device when you bought it. If you not remember which stock-rom you had installed as first visit Sammobile and search for I9001. Download the stock-rom which is for your country, flash it with odin and you will have your warranty back
(For using the Search you have to Regist on Sammobile)
8. Deodex(ADVANCED):
What is Odex:
All apps are at the beginning odexed. Odex means that the apps are actually "packed". When the apps are odex it is more difficult to modify them.
What is Deodex:
Deodexing apps means that you are "unpacking" the apps. When you deodex your apps you will be able to modify them. A deodexed Rom belongs to basic because you will need it for installing a theme or other mods.
Deodexing your rom will not cause any disadvantages
How to Deodex:
Requierments:
Root
Busybox
Java SDK (Download is in the post #3)
USB-Debugging
xUltimate-v2.3.3 (Download is in the post #3)
Connect your phone with the usb-wire
Extract xUltimate-v2.3.3.zip
Start the "Test.exe"
Following must be in the command prompt:
adb = PASS!
odex = PASS!
zip = PASS!
busybox = PASS!
java = PASS!
temp = PASS!
deodex = SKIP!
redex = SKIP!
If something is different please do not deodex you phone because you will fail. If it all matches do following things:
Start the "Main.exe"
Press "1"
When it is finished press please "2"
Enter the folder "origi_app" and delete following files:
Maps.apk
Maps.odex
Phonesky.apk
Phonesky.odex
PlusOne.apk
PlusOne.odex
Enter again xUltimate-v2.3.3 and press please "3"
When it is finished press please "4"
After it is finished start the Deodex.bat (big thanks to nikagl for the commands)
After the automated reboot your phone should be successful deodexed
To check if youre phone is deodexed just run again the "Test.exe" and under the point "deodex" should be "PASS!" or under the point "odex" should be "FAIL!"

How To Connect both Storages at the same time on pc with CM9:
Original Post
So found an other solution where people were complainig off!
First big thanks to Campi1995 who tested it as well
So the problem was following:
people were not able to connect two storages at the same time with their computer and I found an interesting app in the market, it is called Multi Mount Sd-card
For mounting both storages do follwing things:
Install Multi Mount Sd-card
Add the Widget off the app on any homescreen (in the app drawer, you can add widget)
Connect your phone with the usb-wire
Click once at the widget (it should get green)
and BUUUUFF both is connected to the pc
Remember the pay app is better, but the free one works as well.

How to mount your external card on /sdcard/external_sd instead of /emmc/ on CM9
Original Post
Ok guys, after a lot of people were complaining about that the external sd card is now mounted as emmc (including me), I searched a little bit in the forum and I want to share what I´ve found!
Tintenfisch wrote a nice tutorial to make you happy, I tested it and it is working.
Tutorial
Just do what he say and you will be able to use your sd-card as external sd-card
(I activated "Alternate dbase mgmt", because tintenfisch it is recommending it, then I deactivated "Handle USB Connection")
Hoped I helped some people, if there are any questions regarding this post feel free to contact me!

some people buy their phone as sim unlocked (not carrier related) , and those are usually shipped with one of the stock roms available on sammobile . for the rest of us who got their phone with carrier bloatware, we need to have a backup of that stock rom.
as for this thread, although i support any help for people who are starting with android or are new to the device, but i pretty much don't see something that is not covered in the wiki. (not hating, just saying).
You enter STOCK RECOVERY by pressing vol up and power, and then MENU, not just vol up + power
more info
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Plus/GT-I9001 don`t forget to add 9001`s wiki page you can put it on top of your tutorial because LOTS of ppl don`t read it

unable to update after flashing custom rom
I'm having this problem: after flashing a custom rom from sammobile I'n unable to update in KIES. The strange thing is that I get for example XXXKQ7/DBTKP2/XXKPK/ and then the last numbers are of the firmware that previous was on the phone. I think I am doing something wrong but I simply don't know what. Can anyone give me a sollution for this.

The strange thing is that I get for example XXXKQ7/DBTKP2/XXKPK/ and then the last numbers are of the firmware that previous was on the phone. I think I am doing something wrong but I simply don't know what. Can anyone give me a sollution for this.

Looking for mirrors. This is a very large file!
Thanks.
Ah damnit lol this was almost what i was looking for. I need the one for the wifi version.
Do you think the recovery would be the same? Thats the only part i really need lol.
Nvmind i see its all in one file lol
Recovery is in an independent folder, you don't flash the initial zip lol.
Anyway, the recovery and root steps should apply to p5110 as well.
Cheers,
C.
Thank you for all the hard work. I'm sure my Willy nilly ways will require me to use this

Hi,
I see that in your instructions for flashin stock do not use file "BOOTLOADER_P5100XXALD6_365113_REV02_user_low_ship. tar.md5" which is otherwise included in the package, does that mean that it did not necessarily use one?
When it is necessary to use that file?
Thanks.
Updating the bootloader is not required.
Playing with bootloaders is very risky and dangerous in general (can permanently brick tab).
Bootloader is responsible for the download mode. If you can access it and flash using odin, there is no need to mess with it. Upgrading it may result in a locked boot mode, meaning you can't flash custom stuff anymore.
I included only the required files and steps so you guys don't have to look for the right combination.
Peace,
C.
Thank you for the file sir oh sir.

How did you capture the stock recovery from the device? I would like to do the same from my GT-P5113, but (of course) one has to flash CWM first to get access, and that overwrites the recovery.
Stock recovery comes with the stock ROM, so you need to overwrite it, not capture it.
But, to clarify the issue, you can root your device without a custom recovery. After you root, you can dump system images using the "dd" command.
Rooting using CWM zips is just more convenient and easier for everyone, it's not the only option, though. There was root before recovery...

I know that the final goal is to overwrite the recovery to get the benefits of CWM (e.g.). But if you want to save the *stock* recovery first, you need to capture/dump it from the device somehow before flashing (correct me if my logic here is incorrect).
Also, yes, I know a good way to dump it is with "dd", but one needs root to do that (I tried for the hell of it, to see if there was non-root read access, but alas, no).
I think you have hit upon my question regarding root: did you root the tab without flashing CWM? If so that will allow "dd" to capture the stock recovery, yes. If you used CWM, that you overwrote the recovery, and you would not have been able to save the stock recovery in that case.
I have not found a rooting method for the GT-P5113 that does not involve flashing CWM, so I cannot figure out how to same my stock recovery, which I would like to do before flashing CWM (and thereby losing the stock recovery forever).
I obviously dumped the recovery before I flashed CWM, otherwise it wouldn't be stock.
If I get you right, you want to know the root exploit I used to root my p5100 to get suid and be able to copy the "su" binary. In fact, getting elevated rights on a linux system if you have direct access to it is not rocket science. However, because that's a lot to write, here is a more simple solution you can apply to get a stock recovery that I didn't have at the time:
1. Go to samfirmware.com and download a stock rom for your device.
2. Extract the .tar.md5 files and get the "recovery.img" out of them. Usually the "boot" and "platform" files have one inside.
I reckon all p51xx devices have the same recovery anyway, but it might not be the case.

Hi, yes, that's exactly right - I wanted to know how you got elevated rights in order to use dd for this.
I really want the recovery image from *my* stock tablet - not one off the net.
Could you private message me, if you are uncomfortable talking about it here. I am well-versed in Linux (I've done kernel development, I'm part of the Gentoo Linux dev team, etc.), so I am no stranger to Linux. I know there are exploits now and then, but they are not usually trivial. If you found a new one for the current kernel, then I'm impressed, and please do tell. If you found the exploit somewhere on the net, can you send me a link?
Thanks, Joe
Well, I must admit I actually took my time thinking whether I should actually write a reply :-D
However, my main concern is having to write a lot to explain stuff, but considering you are a kernel dev, this should be easy peasy. In short, I didn't force my way in, I just *convinced* the system to let me in. It's an inherent problem of Android, in fact:
1. Extracted the boot.img and unpacked it.
2. Replaced the adbd binary in the ramdisk with an unsecure one.
3. Repackaged and flashed using ODIN.
4. Used adb root to get into the system, the *regular* way. Once adbd lets
5. Installed su and superuser.apk.
There is no need to exploit the kernel if the system is inherently flawed when it comes to direct access (adb root exists). Any and all Android devices that use this layout (boot.img) can be rooted this way. Sorry to disappoint you about the exploit, but I am no *real* dev. I just know my way around :-D
PS: You can get the latest boot.img I did for this purpose here
Hope it helps with your recovery dump,
C.

Very interesting - that was my missing piece of the puzzle - I had not realized one could replace the adbd. Makes sense. I will certainly give this all a try! I may be experienced with Linux, but I have a lot less background in android internals; learning quickly, though. In fact, my next project (when I get some time) is to try building the GT-P5113 ROM from source (and also some delving into AOSP). Being able to customize at the source level would be very cool.

I would be eternally grateful if you could post the stock rom for the 5113 (including stock recovery) if you can. I would settle for just the stock recovery in flashable form via odin etc.
A read through Samsung's kernel source reveals that the governors are already coded into the kernel (install voltage control and you can switch between governors and schedulers at will).
It looks like the set stock speed on the 10.1 5113 is 1008MHz.
Does anyone know how/where in the kernel overclocking is programmed?
The source also looks pretty comprehensive for the tablet and apparently is very similar to that of the 7" tab. I imagine it wouldn't be too hard for a veteran coder to fix this up for the 10" users.
I haven't coded in years and I'm not familiar enough with Android to do anything but attempt to compile the source from Samsung.
Hi,
Does this work on P5100XXLD6 ?
Android version 4.0.3
Thanks

NOTE: Dropbox has temporarily suspended my public links for "generating too much trafic". Please use a mega alternative.
NOTE1: understand that I cannot keep no warranty or responsibility on a result of your effort. Please consider your abilities as following operations can easily brick your device. Also, for some dealers of mobile phones, modification like those bellow results in loss of your warranty.
NOTE2: this guide, all the modifications are created by community, to community. Please be noted that non of those shall be used for commercial purposes. Also I will not provide any support to those who wants to use stuff bellow anyhow for commercial purposes.
NOTE3: please note that I am not a pro-programmer, developer, geek. I am a bit advanced user who shares its result to community. All the stuff is provided as-is.. I am able to help but in time limits of my demandative work and personal life that is not on web .
NOTE4: if you have phone from Etotalk with their ROM, it already includes CWM. But the CWM has been modified by Etotalk to prevent a ROM Backup. Some features common in “normal” CWM might not work in Etotalk version.
Lets go!
This guide contains:
1) Short explanation of P770 firmware versions and its differences
2) Preparation for phone memory flashing
3) Guide for Winflash recovery flashing, including english CWM (Clockwork Mod Recovery)
4) Guide for rooting your phone (using CWM) and Google Apps (optionally)
5) Flashing your ROM - general
6) Guide for ROM flashing using Winflash utility
7) Guide for ROM flashing using CWM
8) Guide for ROM flashing using CWM - Recovery
9) Recommended ROMs and links
1) Short explanation of P770 firmware
P770 has two branches of fimware – “World” and “Asian” versions.
First and very crucial difference is, that they use different memory partitioning, resulting in fact that it is not possible to combine those two versions freely. Trying to do so may result in bricking your phone. Details will described in point 5 bellow:
Main differences for users are:
Asian version, marked S118-S124: usually more actual as Lenovo is focused on Asian market. Typically does not include Google Apps, and very often packed with strange Chinese applications of questionable use. Usually supports only Chinese and English
World version, marked S106-S113
Version for world customers, usually shrinked from useless apps and containing Google Apps. Released with a bit delay compared to Asian version. Better support of European languages, sometimes contains more languages than English. I suppose that version is prepared mainly for Russian Market
2) Preparation for memory flashing:
a) Download this package and upack it as a whole somewhere in your computer:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/25344416/P770/P770_update_utility.zip
alternative link: https://mega.co.nz/#!tFcFyAhJ!OInJjjvLV8VYtJUIvN0EKEJo7vI8ul9kDzv9y_3ukNg
b) Turn off your phone, unplug cable, remove battery. Insert the battery but DO NOT plug your cable or power on the phone.
c) Open your device manager in “windows/system”
d) Connect your phone by cable. A new device named “MT65xx Preloader” shall appear for about 3 seconds in a section “Unknown devices”.
e) Catch it with mouse and manually change the drivers to the ones located in “SP_Drivers_v1.5” folder of downloaded (unpacked) file.
f) After updating, turn off phone, unplug and remove battery, reinsert battery and plug a phone. You should see a device “MediaTek Preloader USB VCOM (Android) (ComX)" in a “COM and LPT” section. If you see it, you are ready to go!
- If you don’t see it, you did something wrong, most probably you were not fast enough in point e), retry from b)
NOTE: if you are unable to pass step 2, please reconsider your decision to play with your phone. If something goes wrong during next phases, you will probably end up lost and sad with bricked phone :crying:
3) Guide for Winflash recovery flashing, including CWM (Clockwork Mod Recovery)
a) Turn off your phone, unplug cable, remove battery. Insert the battery but DO NOT plug your cable or power on the phone.
b) Run flash_tool.exe from directory downloaded in 2a
c) Hit “Scatter loading” button and choose a file “MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc” from a directory according to a FW version you have (described in Point 1):
110_recovery for a “world” version
121_recovery for a “Asian” version
Don’t mix it up otherwise a flashing will fail.
d) Hit “download” button and confirm any warning message.
e) Connect the phone by cable (phone has to be off and in state described in 3a)
f) Red bars on bottom side of the screen will show you a progress. When finished, green circle will appear.
g) Close flashtool.exe, unplug your phone, remove a battery, reinsert it.
h) To boot to CWM do this:
Press and Hold a power button for about 2 seconds, then release it and simultaneously press and hold volume buttons (both + and -) until phone boots to CWM
4) Guide for rooting your phone (using CWM) and Google Apps (optionally)
a) Download this zip file and place it to the root of your SDCard
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/25344416/P770/Root_by_javum.zip
alternative link: https://mega.co.nz/#!MYd1UQyL!DwroiHcoML_iEHD2r1pwvSReM2MZgXJlhjeWMaeHlkM
b) Reboot to CWM (point 3h), choose “install zip from sdcard” “choose zip from sdcard” and choose the Root_by_javum.zip file. As the update proceeds, your phone is rooted. Reboot
Optional: Install google apps if necessary
c) Download this zip file and place it to the root of your SDCard
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/25344416/P770/gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip
https://mega.co.nz/#!ERUzQAYa!RNAKJAxLj38cLKi_ezNIpClrHoYIiIaPGHmKqwzcieQ
d) Reboot to CWM (point 3h), choose “install zip from sdcard” “choose zip from sdcard” and choose the “gapps-jb-20120726-signed .zip” file. As the update proceeds, your phone has GAAPS included. Reboot
Note: this Google apps will work with a roms using Android 4.1.1, for other versions, different gaaps might be needed.
5) Flashing your ROM – general
Generally you have 3 options how to flash your ROM – full wipe by FLASHtool, via CWM zip install or via CWM recovery. The choice is usually up to the creator of the ROM as he chooses a way how backup is created.
Flashtool way is a most basic one, it erases not only a rom, but also repartitions a memory and erases internal data. SD card remain untouched. Flashtool way is very useful for switching from “World” to “Asian” version”
If you want to switch from “World” to “Asian” you have as a first step flash an Asian version by flashtool (e.g. you can use a P770_S121_winflash linked in point 9), then flash whatever Asian version you want. To switch back to European you have to use flashtool again (e.g flash P770_S110_winflash). Maybe there are a different ways, but this is only safe process I would recommend.
LAST WARNING: as mentioned above – for CWM flashes, NEVER mix up an “world” and “asian” version of ROM. The reason is that both types are having different partitioning, so if you will be lucky, the flash will fail. If you are unlucky, the flash will proceed, and you have just successfully bricked your phone
NOTE1: first boot of the phone can easily take about 5 minutes. If the phone stuck on boot logo for 10 minutes or more you have 2 options:
a) Boot to CWM and wipe everything (see point 7) and reboot
b) Reflash ROM again, or reflash another ROM.
NOTE2: some ROMs are rooted, some are not. Some includes Gaaps, some not. For guide how to solve it, return to point 4.
NOTE3: As there is mistake in Android 4.1.1, commercial widgets disappears after reboot. Its a mistake of Android, not ROM and can be easily solved by Titanium Backup. (App with widget you want to use has to be backuped by TB, then uninstalled and recovered from backup (all by TB). Problem shall be solved in next release of Android:
6) Guide for ROM flashing using Winflash utility
a) Turn off your phone, unplug cable, remove battery. Insert the battery but DO NOT plug your cable or power on the phone.
b) Run flash_tool.exe from directory downloaded in 2a
c) Dowload a ROM you need (you might look at point 9)
d) Hit “Scatter loading” button and choose a file “MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc” from a directory with a ROM
e) Hit “Firmware update”, the program will check the images (purple bars running in bottom part) and then awaits a connection of a phone:
f) Connect the phone by plug (phone has to be off and in state described in 6a)
g) Red bars on bottom side of the screen will show you a progres. When finished, green circle will appear.
h) Reboot.
7) Guide for ROM flashing using CWM
a) Download a ROM you want to flash (you may see Point9) and copy a zip file to a root of your SD card.
b) Reboot to CWM (see 3h) and do “wipe factory data” and “wipe cache”. Go to “advanced” and do “wipe Dalwik cache”.
c) choose “install zip from sdcard” “choose zip from sdcard” and choose the file you have placed on SD card.
d) When update is finished, perform one more time “wipe factory data”. Reboot.
8) Guide for ROM flashing using CWM - Recovery
a) Download and unpack a ROM you want (you may see Point9), to a directory on your card /clockworkmod/backup, that means that final route shall be /clockworkmod/backup/Romdirectory
b) Reboot to CWM (see 3h) and do “wipe factory data” and “wipe cache”. Go to “advanced” and do “wipe Dalvik cache”.
c) Choose “backup and restore”, “restore” ad “Romdirectoryname”. Restoration might end by error message, but its no reason to be scared.
d) Reboot

Fast guides for "typical scenarios", all the links in guides points to the steps described in first post.
1) I want to backup my Etotalk ROM:
Note: Etotalk uses its own, modifyed CWM version. It does not allow to perform a ROM backup, so a backup starts but never ends until phones memory is full. To backup your ROM you have to:
1.1. prepare your computer for winflash acc point 2
1.2. Flash "S121_recovery" according point 3 you will have CWM 5.5.0.4
1.3. Reboot to CWM, and perform a flash backup (advanced-backup and restore-backup)
Note: "Etotalk" rom is based on asean S_121 firmware, for going back to Etotalk, follow steps according scenario 5.
2) I have Etotalk ROM and I want to switch to "European" ROM (S106-113)
2.1. prepare your computer for winflash acc point 2
2.2. perform a winfflash of S110 rom (link 9.2) acc point 6
2.3. flash "S110_recovery" according point 3, you will have CWM 5.5.0.4
2.4. Now you can flash any rom or mod of "European family" you want. Be noted that flashing can overwrite your CWM again, so if it happens, repeat step 3.
2.5. (optionaly) root your ROM according point 4
3) I have Etotalk ROM and I want to switch to other "Asian" ROM (S118-124)
3.1. prepare your computer for winflash acc point 2
3.2. perform a winfflash of S121 rom (link 9.1) acc point 6
3.3. flash "S121_recovery" according point 3, you will have CWM 5.5.0.4
3.4. Now you can flash any rom or mod of "Asian family" you want. Be noted that flashing can overwrite your CWM again, so if it happens, repeat step 3.
3.5. (optionaly) root your ROM according point 4
4) I have Asian version (118-124) and I want to switch to "European" ROM (S106-113)
4.1. prepare your computer for winflash acc point 2
4.2. perform a winfflash of S110 rom (link 9.2) acc point 6
4.3. flash "S110_recovery" according point 3, you will have CWM 5.5.0.4
4.4. Now you can flash any rom or mod of "European family" you want. Be noted that flashing can overwrite your CWM again, so if it happens, repeat step 3.
4.5. (optionaly) root your ROM according point 4
5) I have "European" ROM (S106-113) and I want to switch to Asian version (118-124)
5.1. prepare your computer for winflash acc point 2
5.2. perform a winfflash of S121 rom (link 9.1) acc point 6
5.3. flash "S121_recovery" according point 3, you will have CWM 5.5.0.4
5.4. Now you can flash any rom of "Asian version" you want. Be noted that flashing can overwrite your CWM again, so if it happens, repeat step 3.
5.5. (optionaly) root your ROM according point 4
Guys, please think twice before you ask by PM. Last days I am overloaded by the tons of questions, and about half of them are motivated by your tendency to save your time by wasting mine. Especialy questions like"please can you compare batery life to SXXX" drives me crazy....
If you want to know - flash and try.
If you are too scared of bricking you phone - keep your stock ROM
I dont want to be unpolite, but please do not be offended if your PM remains unanswered, especially when its obvious that you did not even read whole guide.

Very nice, thanks for your sharing!
Nice work! :good:
I flashed your S124 ROM while my phone was S110... Before you created this thread... I didnt brick my phone.
S124 is a nice ROM but i missed the business theme and magic launcher and lotus widget so i flash back original ROM.
About partitioning, does anyone know how to make internal storage bigger and usb storage smaller? Cause unfortunately stock ROM takes lot of internal memory space...

Lucky you. I found several threads reporting a problems during S110xS124 and vice versa, so I recomend full flash as safe way.
As my primary goal is to shrink a size of a ROM, live wallpapers, etc are intentionaly deleted in my mods.
Non of above links is work

s124 -> s110
hello,
i have a friend who have this phone with s124 version. (asia version)
but he need the phone in european version (s110) french if it's possible.
i think i just need to flash with flashtool all the rom but everytime i want use your dropbox link it's an error 509.
can you upload the files and maybe explain what i must take care to change the rom?
thank you
hallo, seems that a Dropbox has suspended my public links. I have added Mega alternatives.
sekptar: I hope that a to-do writen above is complete, all the informations are there. First flash the full S110 ROM according points 2 to 6. Then if you want, flash my S110 mod according point 7.
I dont know about any ROM with full french support. Install More Locale 2 to get at least partial French support.
many thanks
finally it works now.

Rooting is quite easy. Just download a "root_by_javum.zip" file, and flash it via CMW. Nothing more, nothing less.
I got it rooted , I will post some revisions in the instructions soon

f) After updating, turn off phone, unplug and remove battery, reinsert battery and plug a phone. You should see a device “MediaTek Preloader USB VCOM (Android) (ComX)" in a “COM and LPT” section. If you see it, you are ready to go!

Hi, I've installed the driver (SP_Drivers_v1.5) in Step 2.. but couldnt find the 'Mediatek...' under 'COM and LPT'.. When I plug in the phone (turned off), it didnt show anything in the device manager..
what should I do next?
This is entirely on my own experience on win7 x64
2) Preparation for memory flashing:
a) Download this package and upack it as a whole somewhere in your computer:

alternative link: https://mega.co.nz/#!tFcFyAhJ!OInJjj...l9kDzv9y_3ukNg
b) Turn off your phone, unplug cable, remove battery. Insert the battery but DO NOT plug your cable or power on the phone.
c) Open your device manager in “windows/system”
d) Connect your phone by cable. A new device named “MT65xx Preloader” shall appear for about 3 seconds in a section “Unknown devices”.
e) Catch it with mouse and manually change the drivers to the ones located in “SP_Drivers_v1.5” folder of downloaded (unpacked) file.
f) After updating, turn off phone [the phone is already off], unplug and remove battery, reinsert battery and plug a phone. You should see a device “MediaTek Preloader USB VCOM (Android) (ComX)" in a “COM and LPT” section. If you see it, you are ready to go! The device display is also displayed for about 3seconds similar to the the previous one

After all, i can use this rom using cwm mod recovery, but i think there s a bug since i cannot back up application using setting menu. Is it right ?

yes, I am using windows 7 x64 too.. it did show up under COM and LPT but only for a few sec.. then it disappears.. this means that I can proceed?
EDIT: I use windowx xp too, and its the same. only appears for a few sec. Rooted!
Confirmation & Questions
Hi,
i can confirm the same behaviour. I also managed to load the new driver but when I connect the device again the "MediaTek Preloader USB VCOM (Android) (ComX)" in a “COM and LPT” section" only shows a second or so and then it dissapears again. Just like furredd describes it.Not sure if this is ok.
Note: I can see the driver using USBDeview.
Another thing: I tried twice to download the "4) S110_Pu_mod, CWM Recovery flashable, my modification of latest world ROM, shrinked, added More Locale and Xperia Launcher" from Mega but the download stopped at ~65% both times.
I use windowx xp prof.
Any ideas?
Edit: One more thing: I have a phone from Etotalk with their Rooted ROM. Does this mean I can not pull this update through or how am i supposed to understand it?
Thanks

Author tested on his Samsung Galaxy N7000 device.
Device tested for full 48 hours with no bugs.
Repartition of device is done on Samsung Galaxy Note 1 (N7000) 16GB model.
If you face any issues, those are pure stock ROM bugs.
Check Software update & register your device before you root your device with given steps in this post.
Rooting is optional, but I found that Stock ROM with it's original Kernel lags too much.
Kernel mentioned here is Optimised for Performance & Battery life.
It is a rare combination of Performance & Battery Optimisation.
I had installed many custom ROM, but the only issue that I was facing was incompatibility of those ROMs with my Samsung Camera & other phone functions. I noticed that many users wanted to move back to stock ROM but they had either faced installation issues or slower speeds for ROM package & inadequate sources to find exact ROM which is available for their device with their respective country. So, I decided to help those unlucky ones with this post, helping to get custom ROM installed on their devices & eliminate the STOCK ROM lagging issue with flashing of custom Kernel.

repartition of gtn7000
hi i would like to try this method, my gtn7000 16Gb variant is currently running CM10.1.3, CWM 6.0 as recovery.
The pit file attached in your post, does it increase the system partition, I am in need of a higher partition for my note as i get insufficient storage to install apps.
Also in your method is it necessary to flash the updated kernel, as I intend to expand the partition and later install CM10.1.3 or higher versions.
Will the CWM recovery be still there or do i need to flash it again.?
should i tick re-partition option , F-reset time, auto reboot in odin ?

Yes Exactly!

Hi Nitin,
PIT stands for Partition Information Table, it simply tells your device in what amount the internal storage is divided into Internal/ Phone memory & SDCARD0.
Difference between both the memories are, first used for app installation & later for data associated with those applications installed. So with officially N7000 comes with 2 GB Internal/ Phone memory & 12 GB of SDCARD0.
SO if you choose 8 GB PIT file for official stock ROM then you are ultimately getting 8 GB for app storage & rest 5 GB for related data storage.
You can choose between 4,6 & 8 GB of PIT file as per your needs & for ROMs other than STOCK you can extend this memory variant to (4,6,8,10 &) 12 GB Internal & 1.3 GB SDCARD0.
Hope you find this helpful & sorry for posting so late.

Hello Nitin,
Yes my method exactly intended for the very specific reason you mentioned here. "It will EXTEND your partition size " & let you install more apps!
There is no need to install custom kernel or flash any other ROM. I have tested it on all CM version ( CM 10+). Also there is no need to select F-reset time, auto reboot in odin. Go to odin Select PIT, it will pop-up some message just say Ok & proceed. Select desired PIT file from downloaded & extracted ZIP. Odin is smart enough to understand your operation & select all necessary settings automatically.
Simply, restart your phone in Download Mode, connect it to your PC & only flash the PIT file.
Hope this will help you! Any need please leave your question here.

Flashing PIT File will change your partition table & enables device to allocate future data in similar way. I suggest re-flashing ROM would be better. Because with new partition information your device's software & other system apps will reside on proper partition. Hope you will find this information productive.

[GUIDE] Installing XPOSED on Galaxy S4 SGH-1337M (2017) (WITH PICTURES)

THIS GUIDE IS ONLY FOR GALAXY S4 SGH-1337M
Guide made on 2017-03-12
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU DO TO YOUR PHONE!
PERFORMING THIS WILL MAKE YOUR WARRANTY GO AWAY!
LEAVE A THANKS IF IT WORKS
This guide is split up into four parts meaning that if you just want to root your phone or just want to restore to stock then you can YOU CAN NOT INSTALL XPOSED WITHOUT ROOTING AND GETTING STOCK FIRST!
Welcome to my guide on how to install XPOSED on the Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-1337M) this guide is strictly for the SGH-1337M the reason I made this was because I spent a lot of hours trying to put parts of threads together since no one had specifically made a guide that was simple and noob friendly for installing XPOSED. Another reason is some people feel uncomfortable following guides made for the SGH-1337 mainly because it is different from the SGH-1337M. Another reason was I found no updated 2016/2017 guides for it. Follow every part step by step or you may risk losing your phone.
Also make sure you backup anything that isn't synced with Google that you want to keep, photos, music, contacts. This will delete all data on the phone.

General Information:
-Basically XPOSED requires a deodexed firmware and when I wanted to get it I didn't know how to deodex my firmware so instead I found a custom ROM which is very popular and extremely good that has a deodexed firmware.
We can do this two ways, but first we must do this.
