LOVE this phone except for one nit picky thing - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm in awe of the beauty and speed, and love just about every single thing about it. But one little thing bugs me -- the "retro TV off" animation when the screen is blanked.
Is there any way to turn this off?
I don't see an option inside Developer options nor inside Nova Launcher (I'm using beta with the KitKat customizations).
I know it's nit picky. Please don't flame me.

You need a custom ROM, most of them have the ability to edit or turn that off
Edit, this should be in QA

I was afraid of that. (Sorry about the location. Didn't think it was a troubleshooting issue.)

OP why didnt you just buy an iphone in the first place?
I'm not sure what the second problem you're having is, but if its what I think it is, download quickpic from market and use that to set your wallpapers. Lemme know if you see a difference.

Did you find the thread for the best voodoo settings. Following the settings provided there really helped with the banding on dark colors. Basically changed the contrast.

I looked at that thread but i cannot find a damn kernel that will let me edit all of those settings. all it will let me change is the color profiles. and i really dont want a kernel that uses deep idle.
Deep Idle isn't a problem since you can disable it.
Via script or NSTools from market...

Interesting find.

I'm not sure if anyone else knows about this, but if you hold your finger on the status bar until the notification tray starts to open and then stops opening, you can slide your finger back and forth on the status bar to adjust brightness without going into your settings. I just found this out and thought it was cool and worth sharing

While the idea is nice, I find it a bit tedious. I'll go with a switch widget instead.

[Q] disable soft key lights?

If you really want to disable them permanently, it's a one-line change in the kernel. You basically don't tell it where the light switch is .
Which ROM are you using?

Code:
gpio_direction_output(_3_GPIO_TOUCH_EN, onoff);
Well damn, looks like that might not only have turned off the backlight, but also the ability to use the button. Black electrician's tape is probably an easier solution if that was your goal.
Somehow I think you still want to be able to use the buttons though.
Isn't there another line of code that tells how bright the keys can be? Is it possible to set that at 0?

I'm not trying to hinder development, but in my opinion I would rather them spend their time on stuff that is less cosmetic... that stuff can come later because there are more important issues they are working on. I'm sure it will one day get fixed...

Sometimes a little distraction is nice. Trust me, after you've been staring at VCO divider tables for a while, something simple like "Can you just turn off this light?" is a good way to improve productivity. I'm back in the tables again this morning, but this gives me something interesting and rewarding to do during the roughly hour and a half a full build takes.

Pfft!
no one here is asking the main devs for this fix anymore....its already been said several times they dont know....sooo maybe other people in here can try to figure out a fix.
So have a nice day.
Also its not just so "cosmetic" as you think.....the people that are on ics based roms would truely appreciate this fix due to the amount of battery life gained if those damn lights didnt stay on.
I would like to know which line this is as well. I dont need extra keys in beam. I want just the hard keys

I do agree that it would be nice. Think about it the only time the lights are on is if the screen is on, if the screen is on, chances are you are touching the screen unless you are watching a movie... there are a few roms out that don't have this problem like the beam port... Maybe compare roms and kernels? There is bound to be a solution. I hope you find your answer and sorry i wasn't trying to blast anyone.
Its all good....i watch alt of movies while sitting at the back gates waiting for the parks to empty out at Disney so i can go to work and the those lights are quite annoying in the dark watching movies lol
GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! Theres an app called screen filter on the market that does the trick by turning off the softkeys umtil you actually click them details are on my capacitive buttons thread.
Its kinda old news...but it does work but its just more steps for getting what you want......when it could all be avoided

Need a app to keep the screen on like knock on

Is there a app that doesn't lock the screen when the display turns off, I find it a bit annoying on android to turn on the phone, on symbian I just had to press any key to turn on the display without unlocking it, and lock it only using the lock key.
I prefer a app like LG G2's Knock On.

theres a kernel here what does what you want ,well i think it does

I don't want to upgrade to a CFW now. I prefer enjoying rhe phone on stock than to deal with minor hindrances which ruin the experience on a CFW, like the camera bug mentioned in the thread you quoted to.

Thanks for the apps but with both the apps the phone gets locked after the screen turns off, I wanted a app that turns off the autolock of phone and just turns off the screen to save power. So I can press any key on the phone to see the screen without unlocking it each time.

[SHARE][APP][PATCH] DISABLE limiting brightness //THERMAL\\.

SHARING THE APP, ALL CREDITS GO TO TWEAKERS AND OPTIMIZERS ON GOOGLE PLAY, ANY ISSUES, PLEASE WRITE THEM IN THE PLAY PAGE OF THE APP LINKED DOWN BELOW.
FIX SYSTEM CONTROL ON DECREASED BRIGHTNESS TO PREVENT HEAT
The below issue is only present on lg custom roms from 4.2 and up, thermel controls the brightness to low it down to prevent heat, this app patches the thermal to remove some vlaues.
Some advanced users use the dialler to go to the hidden menu to disable the thermal, this app is very useful for simple and fast, also to tablets with no dialler.
Hey every one,
Today, I'm going to present to you an easy way to disable the auto lowering the brightness when in 100%, and make it sit for life-long...
It's an easy way...
I HAVE NOT DEVELOPED THAT APP!!!
Its BTW already there, but i want to share it with you guys!!
Q: What is it? A: its an app called "LGBrightnessPatcher"
Q: What it does? A: it restrict the system from getting brightness decreased, when slight heat.
Q: Require root? A: of course!
Q: Does it glue the brightness to 100%? A: No, you can adjust it from the brightness slider bar...
The app patches the brightness watcher and preventing it from changing the value when the screen gets 100% after an amount of time to let the device cool down, and not to get heat...
Other than that, the patching process would not take longer than 10 seconds!! and its totally safe!! i tested it myself!!
Instructions:
1. Root your device.
2. Install the app from the links down below.
3. Give root permission grant.
4. Touch on apply permanent patch.
5. Wait 5 seconds, got a toast massage?
6. Reboot.
7. Enjoy 100% brightness without limiting!!
Before download, let me thank the developer of the app, Tweakers and Optimizers who make that app possible!!
Its an genus app BTW!!!
Links, why? you'll find it in play store: LGBrightnessPatcher
Have a good day everyone! and get your G3 brighter, i mean stick at 100% all the time...
FEEDBACK guys, i tested it in LG G PAD V500, in stock 4.2.2 and 4.4.2, hope will work for the G3...
Press thank, rate...
15/04/2015: Looks like some folks have troubles installing the patch correctly, to fix the problem install busybox from play store.
