is there a trusted source to download discontinued apps? - General Questions and Answers

So I bought a new phone and one of the apps (catch) is no available in play store any longer.
I really like it and want to continue using it. So is there any trusted source for old apks?
Regards

Bump

If you've got the app running on the old phone, you can try to back it up with apps like Titanium Backup (requires root) or App Monster or similar. You can then transfer the apk from the sdcard to your new phone and reinstall it that way.

Ematic FunTab Pro Google Play

Just wanted to put this out there somewhere maybe it will help someone.
I recently purchased an Ematic FunTab Pro from Walmart.com and was able to install Google Play store by simply loading an older market.apk file.
All of the other Google Framework was already on this tablet.
Unfortunately the tablet I received had a damaged screen so I had to return it but wanted to let everyone know that it should be very possible to add Google Play to this tablet.
how do you load google play?

I just searched it on Google. Just type something like "Google play store apk". I've got it installed on my little brother's fun tab pro but I can't figure out how to get it to work. It keeps force closing whenever I open it or when I try to install an app with it. I heard the Google framework doesn't come with the tablet, how did that other guy have the framework already there? Any help would be appreciated but I'm going to try a few more things to see if I can get it to work too. Thanks.
Same problem here, I bought two of them for my boys. Tryin to figure it out. I'm able to side load app from random websits. I'm not a big fan of that though.
I'm just using the slideme market for now. Its better than the broken app stores preinstalled
These things are horrible, nothing works, apps crash. I consider myself an advanced android user and this is pathetic. Im getting a headache. Were returning them back to Walmart later.
My solution:
Download APK extractor and Wifi file transfer (wifi transfer app optional) with registered android device.
Download desired apps to registered Android device.
Use APK extractor to extract app (no root needed)
Either use wifi transfer (wireless and more convenient) or use PC to transfer APK files to FunTab. (Files can be found in the "APKextractor" folder from registered android device and move them to to the desired folder in the FunTab ) detach from computer.
Install APK on fun tab using stock file browser
Thank me and enjoy.
Amazon App Store
Try installing the amazon app store.
Ematic Funtab 7" tablet
My sister bought this tablet for my 2 year old son for christmas he loves it but it would be nice if I can install Netflix on his tab so he can watch SuperWhy and YoGABA GABA and all that kiddie stuff he likes.
I'm trying to install the Google Play APK and Netflix APK the apps try to launch but they don't open, and they crash.
I read somewhere that I would have to send the tab to Ematic and they have to remove a "lock" so I can install all this stuff. From my understanding Zoodles causes this "lock" and it tricks the tab into thinking the outsourced apps are outdated and cannot launch.
I imagine that this so-called "lock" is just having to root this device.
Has anyone tried rooting it? He just received it, yesterday, I would hate to send it to Ematic just so they can root it.
Help?
Google Play Store
I have a Yuntab S4 running 4.2.1 Android which has BIG problem downloading Google Play & any other aps from this store...Do you have a URL for the mentioned "older market.apk" file? Thanks!

Anyone know why the Play Store doesn't always restore apps?

I've always found the Play Store to be incredibly inconsistent when it comes to restoring apps.
When I recently Odin'd back to stock and signed into my Google account, the Play Store instantly began downloading all of the apps that I had installed on the last ROM. Apps that had been uninstalled were not re-downloaded; it only restored the apps that were on the phone most recently.
But when I just installed Synergy and signed into Google, it didn't bother restoring anything. I know that I can go to All Apps > All, but this is just a huge list of every app that I've ever downloaded on an Android device. It's far more tedious.
Anyone know the reason for this inconsistency?
(And no, I'm not a fan of apps like Titanium Backup.)
Some roms give you a check box to check if you want to restore apps and some dont. It should ask if you want to backup your apps and if you want to restore apps during the install.

Google's play store backup only backs up your last ROM that you signed into with your Google Account.
So, if you didn't restore all of your apps when you flashed another ROM, Google Play restored "0" apps for that ROM and made a backup with "0" apps. That's why you aren't getting any restored.
I recommend Titanium Backup.

Google Play store says my phone is incompatible, could someone please send me .apk?

I bought a breathalyzer that requires an app to use. The app requires android 4.3, so I rooted my Photon Q 4G and installed cm-10.2.1-xt897. However, the google play store still thinks my device is incompatible, even after messing around with Market Helper. I even tried playing around with build.prop manually, which was almost a disaster when it broke my keyboard and I had no way of typing back in the settings I had changed. I changed ro.product.model, ro.product.brand, and ro.product.manufacturer to imitate a Galaxy S3 and S4, neither worked. Anyway, I'd like to try side loading the app on my device to see if it works because I'm pretty sure the google play store is just being stubborn (I've seen other installation issues reported by people with non-rooted phones for this app). Could someone with a compatible phone (stock Android 4.3+) please download this app and send me the .apk file? I'm not asking anyone to steal since it's a free app anyway. Alternatively, could someone explain which settings I should be changing in build.prop to fool the google play store (preferably without breaking my phone)?

Here you go the apk is attached
Editing build.prop to look like other phones is not a good idea.
And to unlock the play store there is an xposed module available. So install xposed and find the module.:good:

there is also a Chrome plugin that allows you to download directly from play store but is tricky as you need a fake IME and google account (Fake) lots of ways to get what you need

Android - Life without Gapps

It has just always been my default move to flash Gapps after a custom ROM flash. Reflex just like flashing SuperSU.
Lately I'm annoyed with it, though. There are some apps I don't want to update, ever. Using an app to remove the market link for an app works till you run the Play Store again, so it really doesn't work. Then you have to go through the apps one by one and update them instead of touching "Update All", or just remove the market link every time before you check for updates via Play. I suppose you could write a script that runs before the Play Store to do this automatically, but this is another annoyance rather than a fix IMHO. And you still get Play Services running the BG whenever it feels like it. Also something I don't like.
So, anybody not using Gapps at all on a DD device? And what are you using to get apps instead? I found androiddrawer.com to be pretty good, but any other full on "store" app seems to either not do enough of what Play Store does, or it does exactly what it does, and I don't want that, OR it's the Amazon "app store" which is just really stupid anymore.
So what I want is either an app store that gives me the option to leave an installed app alone forever and keep its stupid mouth shut about updates, OR ?
What do you use?
Seem to have answered my own question. 1mobilemarket does the trick. Gives me the option to ignore app updates. That's all I needed.
None of Gapps work in here so there are always localized alternatives to each Gapps.
I deinstall gapps with an app with root access

I never install the gapps in the first place. I have a number of extracted apk files for those essential play store only apps, the rest is coming via the f-droid repository.

how to extract apk from Gapps?
I went back to Gapps, unfortunately. F-droid does not have all I normally use, and they really need to have the option to ignore updates. Androiddrawer.com is an OK alternative, but not really ideal.
Think what I'll do it setup a dummy device in an emulator with Gapps installed to keep updated apks on tap and then I can cherry pick what I want with my real devices. Keeps data usage down to a minimum and lets me get rid of Gapps on my real devices. Wish there was a nicer way.
Actually, we here in Indonesia have some alternative app stores, but all of them aren't a replacement of Play Store.
Some of them are carrier-dependent for some features, like Gudang Aplikasi that their IAP only available to XL Axiata users and TemanDev and WePlay where their IAP only available for Telkomsel users.
Another app stores, like web-based JalanTikus and 9Apps, or Baidu Indonesia's MoboMarket.
These app stores' app lists were incomplete and no IAPs like Play Store has. So why Indonesians are using these app stores altogether with Play Store.

I'd like to get rid of gapps but I have one paid app that require the play store authenticator to run :/

Batch download APKs?

Hello,
Is there a computer app/website that allow you to create your app list and download each of them by a single clic? Goal being to donwload all these apps last version APK anytime you want instead of looking for them one by one.
Thanks.
You're looking to batch download from Google play? I don't believe this is possible. Actually, I think Google blocks this as a security issue.
If you're trying to make switching ROMs easier, then making a flashable zip of user apps from something like titanium backup then just letting the play store do the update might be a way to go. Of course Google apps can be obtained from opengapps.org.
