I have a Nexus S (Model i9020, I think it's the Korean version since the letters behind the battery are Korean) and I wanted to install one of the custom KitKat ROMs available in the development section. I should have known there was gonna be a problem when the phone wouldn't connect to the computer (Windows 7 was saying there was an issue identifying the device). When that happened, I decided to download the ROM (and GApps) from the phone and then install it via CWM. Here's where it messed up: I factory reset, wiped cache, etc. then install via SD card. It acted like it was gonna install, then came back with Error: Status 7. Now my phone is soft bricked (I can get into download mode and all that). I tried installing drivers for the phone, to no avail. Mounting USB storage doesn't work. Before you ask, I do have experience flashing ROMs on two different phones. What can I do? If I can't do anything it's not that big of a deal since I have another phone I'm currently using. I don't want to have to install Ubuntu just to fix this.
Nobody knows?
Hello?
Same problem happened today with me because I am on older version of CWM recovery and trying to flash 4.4 ROM so, latest cwm is required when you flash KitKat..
I know what happened with me so, I flash recovery by command prompt after that every thing are fine..
I am using this command to flash recovery FASTBOOT FLASH RECOVERY (RECOVERY NANE).IMG

But how am I supposed to do that if my PC doesn't recognize the phone? Fastboot and adb won't do anything.
My Phone wont boot after I tried to flash a 4.4 ROM. Only black screen and it isn't recognized by my PC.
Do you think it died while flashing? Is that possible?
Somebody help, please.
If it helps, this is the ROM I attempted to install...

Nobody bothered to help me, and I fixed it myself. The issue was that I had a bad USB cable, haha!

Hi
A couple of days ago I tried to flash the newer version of ClockWorkMod recovery (from v3.0.2.4 to 5.0.2.0) via ROM Manager, it seemed to install properly but when I tried to enter the recovery it sent me to the BOOTLOADER and there was written that I have no boot or recovery image installed, when I try to install the CWM manually via ADB it cant recognize my Nexus S when I'm in the bootloader (I re-installed the drivers but it didn't help) but when the phone is on I have access to the phone via ADB but I cant flash the CWM.
I tried the next commands:
adb shell
SU
flash_image recovery /sdcard/filename.img
and it showed me allot of memory errors.
Does anyone can help me?

thanx, I tried it but it also didn't work
same problem here noob in nexus s please help
After I sent my NEXUS to a lab it works OK with the recovery they say that they don't know what this issue was but after the changed the rom to stock every thing worked OK
I am also suffering from the same issue, I think itnis caused by only a certain amount of memory being aloted for a recovery image as the newer version is a bit larger, anyone know how to fix this?

in the lab they said that they pushed stock rom via some linux script they have to the nexus and after that they flashed recovery but I think that you can find how to do this in this forum (going back to stock) and to root it again and then you can flash recovery
I'm going thru the same thing after flashing ics rom. Now I had to downgrade to 3.0.0.1 in order ffor my recovery to work.....I even tried flashing each recovery one by one until I was on. 5.2
But its the same issue. No recovery unless I downgrade. Also none of my back ups are recognized.....

Hi all,
Got mine today, tried to install a ROM and it got stuck in bootloop.
I did a number of stupid things not to mention wiping the SD and im in serious trouble.
I can get into bootloader and CWM but thats it.
Ive heard restoring a RUU can cure it but I have a MAC and cant find anything to help.
Can anyone help? Im gutted....and fell like an idiot.
Ive got an S4 on the three network.
Thanks
Hold down the power button for 10 seconds then after the touch buttons stop flashing, just hold the volume button and see if ot enters the bootloader.

Specifically you'll have to flash the ROM zip file from the recovery and then use fastboot flash boot boot.img.
You can find boot.img inside the ROM zip file

Finally seem to have done it and managed to RUU
The phone is locked to 3 but as a noob I spent 2 days flashing a generic euro ROM.
When i realised i need a ROM to match CID i downloaded 1.53. Tried this a number of times with no joy.
Just tried 1.78 and it seems to be working
Thanks to everyone for your help - us noobs must be sooooooo annoying.
Htc One S bricked
Hi im relatively new at rooting and am currently experiencing issues with a bricked device.
i have two htc one s devices
my personal one is running cm10 ville with clockwork touch recovery and is working perfectly
however the second one i was using the same exact files.
this one is bricked
its in a constant bootloop.
i can get back to my recovery just fine and get to the fastboot in the phone fine
i cleared my cache
wiped my data and wiped the dalvik cache all perfectly fine when i try to flash the cm10 official rom back on it cannot mount the sd card
i would try to install a different recovery and try again maybe using viper one s
but i cannot get the phone to power on
it doesnt showup on the computer when it is plugged in while in fastboot
when i try the cmd fastboot flash recovery it says waiting for device
any advice. this is not my own phone so i need it repaired pretty quickly.
any helpful information would be much appreciated.

Bootloop does not mean your bricked...means you need to fastboot flash boot.img

This little post just pulled me out of missery. Love ya man!
all you guys getting sorted
make a nandroid and sdcard bu NOW and put them on pc,
obviously leave a copy of nandroid on phone also
makes it a lot easier if you get in trouble again
and you/we will
Mounts and Storage --> Format everything --> Now Mount USB Drive --> Put Gapps and ROM
Flash it, erase cache & and Dalvik...Blah blah blah. Flash boot.img in fastboot, and there you go.
Everybody, please remember this and there won't be noob q&a anymore...

Just rooted and s-off a replacement one S. Everything went fine until i got to the point i was going to flash a rom. Ive been using the viper rom. after starting the installer it seemed out that all it did was format the memory. After it finished it rebooted and stayed on the HTC splash screen for probably twenty minutes before i did a hard boot. after getting back into recovery and trying again it did the same thing. i decided to just start over and do reboot from recovery but it is saying there is no OS. so i went back to view my card from recovery and everything on it was erased. Now im trying to copy the viper rom back over via recovery but the transfer speed is down to about 50kbps and keeps saying its timing out. any ideas
What recovery are u using? I read several times, that ViperRom and the latest twrp don't fit. In case of using twrp u should try an older version.

I guess i was using the twrp with that all in one toolkit i would switch to cwm but i cant get my computer now to reconigze the phone. i keep getting the htc mtp driver issue and haven't been able to figure it out. I figured if i can get the other recovery installed i should be able to flash a os

go into bootloader, then fastboot usb mode.
the flash the new recovery via fastboot command, or with the all in one toolkit (chose custom, then locate your file)
i switched over to cwm and tried copying a viper rom to my phone but it keeps erroring out during the transfer. I tried a smaller rom and it copied over but all its doing with i click install is going to a black screen then back to cwm
i also tried several other roms that were smaller in size and it was doing the same thing
Yesterday I managed to press install on the newest update, 4.4.4 on my Nexus 5. It was rooted and still is, but by installing this OTA it somehow made it crash. Now that I try to get into recovery mode I just get the android which is dead with an ! on it. It was rooted with Xposed and TWRP.
What do I do? Im on a Mac
OTA removed root replaces recovery. I'm amazed it managed to replace recovery whilst Xposed was installed. Anyway, seems like it did.
You must fastboot flash a custom recovery

Hi guys,
I have recently rooted my device and flashed a custom ROM (CyanogenMod), after 2 days there was an update for CM. Update was installed perfectly but then after the reboot "settings" on the phone stopped working. closed unfortunately. I went into recovery mode to flash the previous ROM. I am using "TWRP" recovery tool. This where I have done the blunder, I have wiped the system data and all of it. At the moment phone doesnt have any ROM to boot on. Please suggest me to how to flash the factory ROM or any other ROM. Can't really do anything as the phone wont boot up in regular mode (GOOGLE) thats all.

And yeah jd I still have the Rocket.
that was his first and only post, i bet he wont be back. sounds like a root toolkit child.
How?
Having said that I cannot detect the phone in the PC, how can i put the ROM in a folder?
Guess what? He's back!

My friend, you don't use fastboot to flash "ROMs".
Sorry woke up 5min before writing that. Running on 4hrs sleep now. Meant use fastboot to install stock image, flash a recovery. Then use custom recovery to flash future roms. Just pointing him in the right direction. With a little reading, he'll figure it out.
