Flashing .ftf doesnt lock your bootloader. AFAIK, you can always lock you bootloader even you didnt backup your TA before unlock it.
But even you lock you bootloader, OTA update will brick your device and break some functionality like download music info or Bravia Engine (for device that have BE I mean) because you have lost TA forever. Locking you phone back just in case you want your warranty back.
And yep, this thread should be in Q&A section.

Keep your battery out for 10 seconds. Put it back in. Hold volume down while connecting your phone to the computer.

Yes you can flash any region, but be careful to chose your model while there are two Xperia L 2105 and 2104. Anyway, if you can enter recovery try to make a full wipe then restart. If it doesnot work go for a Flashing FTF procedure
Thanks for your help. Factory reset didn't work but then I flashed ftf file and it worked. I just was little bit scared because it was the first time boot loop occurred to my Xperia L

The right instructions is : Flashing the stock kernel > Restore TA.

Test CWM on D2303 down, at one's own risk! (Otherwise it is necessary to flash factory firmware!)

yes, you need to check it on the firmware version 18.0.C.1.13. I myself can not check, because I have a D2302
I tried to flash it the D2303 versions but for me the phone didn't boot afterwards. Has any one else tried it?
M2 owner rooted
so is the boot image not working and your mobile stuck i was going to try it but will wait for someone to say it works okay

Try this:
1. Unlock the bootloader
2. Install original firmware through flashtool
3. Replace boot.img
It should work! After the vibration happens a second time, you need to press the "volume down"
locked bootloader
will this work on locked bootloader .

No need to unlock the bootloader in advance
so bsically your phone needs to be
1. unlocked to any network
2. unlock bootloader
3. rooted
4, cwm
5. if all done before no .4

Thank you. I tested again and it does boot into cwm this way but when it boots into system the screen remains blank. But it feels like system has booted as you can feel the vibrations on screen touch.

Hey there. I installed it but no good. When I rebooted I got. Nothing on the screen and only a flashing red led.

OK! I finally got it running on Xperia M2 Dual D2302
My steps and issues:
1/
Initially I saved the first SUS update received from Sony which appeared to be and finally is 18.0.B.1.23 (android 4.3) despite the phone being already on that same firmware > did the ftf out of it.
When I launched SUS again 2 days later it wanted to download the new update, 18.3.B.0.31 (android 4.4.2, I believe), instead of using the previous one. So I downloaded it and created the ftf for later.
2/
I rooted using TowelRoot without any problem. sweeeet (>_<)
3/
Did the TA Backup and dry tested it. Fingers crossed...
4/
Went to unlock using normal Sony procedure but I wasn't receiving any email at work. Finally I ran it through Flashtool, which indeed takes you to Sony website. I had to choose Xperia M Dual as M2 is not available. Then the phone locked with a black screen. Hopefully Sony has added an off HW button to disconnect the battery (finally!). I started the phone which entered into a boot loop
Then in whatever order I tried:
- to flash the boot img given by NFound
- tried to relock, unlock via Flashtool
- let it boot loop for awhile
- and finally flashed the first ftf I did > SUCCESS! The phone started fine.
5/
from there I was able to pursue the tutorial by flashing NFound boot img. CWM available
6/
flash SuperUS-Update with CWM, here's ROOT!
7/
busybox... etc
GREAT!
NFound, your post #8 HAD the solution, I realized that just now
Thanks for your work and risk taken with this. This M2 Dual is not even for me but for a workmate, I must be insane or simply perfectionist...
Have you tried to update to 4.4.2 with the recently published update?
Thank you!!
Finally running on my D2302
Can we use this on the new update?

Sony z3 d6603

1. Unlock bootloader
2. Install SuperSu through Recovery
3. Flash Stock Sony Rom
4. Flash CM12

Sorry for being rude, just woke up in bad mood...
The Safe way to root Z3 is to downgrade to KitKat, root it and use PRFCreator to make prerooted FW. You can find all the info here if you spend like 10 minutes of your life.

Why not just unlock the bootloader the official way, flash a custom recovery (Cyanogen, TWRP, etc.), and then flash SuperSU Update ZIP from there? It takes maybe 10 minutes, and apart from obtaining the unlocking code, it is pretty straightforward.

So i dont need to downgrade to nothing?
Also which ROM is the most stable and which custom recovery you reccomend on installing?

Because unlocking phone without having TA backup is irreversible process leading to loss of low light pictures quality and couple other DRM related issues. Downgrade to KitKat is safe way to keep your bootloader locked and possibility to backup TA.

AFAIK if you re-lock your bootloader then flash a stock FTF with FlashTool, TA is replaced with a working copy. I might be wrong though.

Problem of TA is that it is device specific, unique on each phone.
