Using the stock launcher, this problem/feature just started popping up recently. I couldn't find any discussion on if this was part of the newer Google Search / GEL updates.
On the homescreen indicator that separates the dock, I now have a plus sign on the far right, which makes the regular indicating dots off center. Swiping left is Google Now like always, but now swiping right after the rightmost homescreen leads to a blank homescreen (screenshots attached). It used to just be that trying to swipe right on the rightmost homescreen would do nothing. How do I go back to this original function?
I'm using Cataclysm Rom [Nov 15] and franco.Kernel r14. I've searched through those threads for more information about this blank homescreen, but no luck. I've also dug through the Cataclysm Settings to see if I've ticked any options, but I can't find anything. I don't have the franco.Kernel app so I don't know if this might be a kernel setting, but again, I couldn't find anything in the franco.Kernel thread.
Thanks for any help!
Move an icon over there and move it back. That fixed it when mine did it.

Thanks, that temporarily got rid of it, but after a reboot, the plus sign and the blank homescreen came back.
Maybe it's just part of GEL now? Haven't found any discussions about it though :/
I too have this, it drives me absolutely nuts! It shows up after reboots and random times! No fix besides putting app there and deleting
It has happened to me twice so far. Can't figure out what it is.

Only had the problem once and this solved it.
Having the same issue, appears randomly and I have to either restart the phone or use the app move/unmove trick to get rid of it.
I haven't found a correlation to any thing in particular or any app but I'd like to know what's causing this..
I have experienced this as well. I just reboot the phone and it goes away. Pretty minor bug but yea i imagine it will get fixed in the next update.

So I got the T-mobile US One S yesterday, and I noticed that every now and then, I get weird graphical glitches, be it on home screen or in the app drawer. Anyone else has this problem?
I attached one of the app drawer, the bar under the status bar is glitched.
First reboot if you haven't done it yet. If that doesn't work try factory reset. A quick reboot solves most weird problems
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA
I tried rebooting and factory reset. The problems still pop up for some reason. There are also times when I hit the "Home" button, where the phone begins to spazz, gets a glitchy screen, only a restart fixes that one
Well, you can probably declair it dead on arrival and get a new phone. Go to the store and show them. Unlucky :/
I had the same issue with the t-mobile stock ROM. When I would close the app drawer, there would still be an outline of the drawer shown. If I switched between homescreens, it would go away. I haven't had this problem since using other ROMs. So it might not be the phone itself.
Even if flashing a different ROM would fix it, I would expect the stock device to work since I haven't done any rooting/modding on it at all.

Wondering if anyone else is having this problem, and if there's been a fix.
Sometimes, when I go to any app that isn't the home screen, my status and nav bar will disappear. Not completely disappear, mind you--they're just blacked out. I can still pull down the notification shade, and I can still tap the buttons on the nav bar. But I cannot actually see them.
This seems to happen completely at random, sometimes rotating to landscape and back again will fix it. Other times, I'll have to reboot to get it to stop. I've tried getting a screenshot of it, but everything appears just fine in the screenshot itself...

I haven't seen anything like that, it may be particular to your device somehow. Is there any pattern in which apps or types of apps cause the problem?
I thought it had something to do with TeslaLED, so I uninstalled it. But it just crops up completely at random. Even if I haven't used the phone (or used any apps) all day.
Maybe my particular Photon is a lemon. Because now it's beginning to also have Wi-Fi failures.
Xodium did u install argggghhs kernel... if so its a kernel problem u can't run it at 1.89 ghz... I had the same problem with my phone until I figured out the kernel

I am running arggggh's kernel, but this was happening even before I touched the bootloader/recovery/kernel in any way. I am also running it at stock speeds (with the minimum set to 96MHz)
I have photos coming. Hang on...

When my infinity is running at random the quick settings pop up, and is really annoying. Is this happening to anyone else? If yes, is there a fix?

No it's not normal.
Either you have a defective touch screen or keep touching the bottom right of the screen without realising it?

Are you referring to the notification drawer (the pop-up window with the date, time, connection, toggles, etc.)?
Have you checked your screen for dust enclosed under the glass, or other cruft/fatty smears? Very minor chance, but on other devices, it caused touch registration. I'd look for it primarily in the lower right section of the screen.
No dust? Tough cookie. On which ROM are you? If stock, factory reset would be my next option (if I'd get annoyed enough), and then check if it happens with a nearly 'naked' install. If custom, I'd go stock. If it happened again (multiple times), you might have a hardware issue.
Do you have the dock attached? Which launcher do you have? Do you have an swipe gesture associated somewhere with opening the notification drawer?
Stock ROM, but rooted.
Not unlocked
Yes dock is connected
Yes I'm referring to the toggles, date, time, power selection..
Stock launcher by Asus.
No swipe gestures applied.
I will try and clean screen tonight, I will also see if issue persist when I disconnect from dock. The dock is the tf201 one.

Mhhhhhh... This doesn't bode too well. Give the screen a good wipe, and I hope you get lucky and the issue goes away all by itself. You might try and reinstall the stock ROM by the file method provided in the stickies (can be done with a locked bootloader). If that doesn't help, well... I can't think of anything else at the moment. I then wouldn't take the risk, so I'd return it. Sadly. Sadly, but surely.
I'm actually having the opposite problem as you, sometimes I can't open that notification area. I know when it's going to happen because where it normally says External Storage Inserted it's blank there, and I can't click it.
So I tested last night. Cleaned smudges and such. Seems as though the keyboard is the culprit. Hinges are loose. And now it puts pressure on lower right screen bottom. Thanks for everyone's help.

I received OTA yesterday and so far found one bug. There is a black screen comes up randomly. Top and bottom bars are visible but I can't do anything to get out of it. The only thing that works is restart. I can't pinpoint the app that might be causing it. It happened while updating apps or using Firefox. Anybody else having this issue?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Did you wipe your cash after updating? I had experienced several bags after the OTA update too, but i cleaned cash from the recovery mode and now everything works just fine.
Did wiped cache from recovery mode yesterday and it was OK. Today the black screen issue is back. It's quite annoying having to restart.

Hi there, I am currently having the same bug on my Nexus 4 device.
It appears the same way, with the Softbuttons visibile and the top bar still able to be pulled down. Plus that there is no option if I restart to get my SIM card recognized. Pretty annoying when you have an encrypted nexus device and have to wait 2 minutes to restart with a 40% chance of NOT getting the black screen again.
My assumption is that it has something to do with the kernel. Any suggestions/confirmations?
Best regards

Same problem here... black screen with only softbuttons visible and notification bar working.
I think the problem occurs when an application is in full screen mode (no softbuttons visible) and you do a little swipe to make the softbuttons appear... It must be something with the way the softbuttons overlap the screen, I think.
Any help?
I am also seeing this problem on my Nexus 5 which I flashed the factory image with full wipe. I have had it when exiting apps and also when an app is open it can just happen. If i swipe up from the bottom sometime I get a flash of the screen during the animation so it is as if a layer is over the screen. I hope this is fixed as it is random, this morning it happened and after a reboot i logged in and it happened before I opened an app, reboot, then happened again a few mins later, but after a 3rd reboot has been ok???
For everyone that is experiencing this problem... do you have Tasker installed?
I disabled tasker and since then I don't have this problem... so far.
Still happening once in awhile and I do have Tasker.

It happens to me. My current theory is that, in my case, it may have to do with a profile manager I use which turns the lock screen pattern lock on and off depending on where I am.

I also have tasker, don't want to disable it as I find it too useful, can you keep us all informed if it cures the issue.

I also find tasker very useful.. but I think it was causing the problem. No more black screens since then.
To try to narrow it down even further... do you have a profile to enable/disable the lockscreen in certain situations?

I do use tasker to disable the lock screen, I wish that the smart lock would completley disable the lock screen, and not just the secure section. I will take all the lock screen options out of my tasks and reboot, will test for a few days.
I tested over the weekend and had no black screens with all tasker/secure settings lock screen disables turned off, I left all other actions on , so I think you are correct. actualy got on OK using the smart unlock, although when in my house sometimes GPS is lost so it will relock, but not a real issue. Thanks for the heads up
This problem has been going on for about a week. I have 5 folders on my home screen and the apps in one folder keep getting rearranged. I'll fix it and then after a few hours if changes again.
Additionally the bottom part of the homescreen with the default apps (these aren't in a folder) gets rearranged too.
Not sure why this is happening. Has anyone encountered this? Is there a fix for this?
Thanks!
I just reported a similar problem with the default icons rearranging themselves at the bottom of the home screen to Samsung support. This is despite the fact that I have the Home Screen layout locked in Settings. I thought that it might have something to do with the use of the Good Lock Home Screen app. Are you using this app too by any chance?
Did you lock home screen layout?
The only way the folder content should alter if this is enabled is if you package block an app in that folder.
Clear system cache.
Yes, I have my home screen locked. I have several folders on my home screen, but I haven’t noticed if the icons in these folders are also getting rearranged. Are you using the Good Lock Home Up app? I read somewhere that this can cause this problem with icon arrangement.

Yeah I am using good lock
I just locked the homescreen hopefully that works, I've already cleared cache in recovery. That didn't make a difference.
It's weird though I've never had to lock the homescreen before.

I have a lot of things blocked, can't for the life of me think of which one it is haha. I'll check with the locked homescreen and see if that works, if not I'll have to turn on each thing one by one, and test, which will take forever because its' totally random when it gets rearranged.

Starting with Android 10 Samsung added dozens, maybe a hundred or more small system apks to modify that wretched OS's behavior so One UI be functional as before.
I have two N10+'s, one running on 9, the other 10.
My package disable list for the 10 version is nearly identical to the 9 in spite nearly having 100 more new Samsung system apps. I ignored these new system apks as they don't seem to impact performance. Most likely are needed.
I recommend not touching these as erratic behavior may occur.
Sound familiar?
Go after apps that are known to cause trouble ie excess battery/internet usage and leave the rest alone. Dependencies... some are obvious, some maybe not so much so. Take a more cautious approach.
Many of the Samsung system apps just sit there and do nothing unless needed.

Not sure, I'll have to wait and see. As I said, it's totally random and sometimes only changes after 24 hours. I'll report back. Naw, doesn't happen when I close and reopen the folder. Seemingly random. It was originally the folder, now it's those default apps on the bottom of the homescreen.

If it continues...
You might be able to get some clues using Device Care>memory and seeing what apps just cache when it happens.
Or see if clearing it has any effect. Then see what apps pop up. You get the idea.
If you got more than 100 packages disabled you might want to rethink it down to about 80 or so.
Only ones you know aren't needed.
Thanks man, looks like the problem has bene resolved with a screen lock. I will take a look into your suggestions though, as I've never had to lock the screen before to prevent apps from reorganizing themselves within a folder or a dock.

Yeah that's not anything I ever saw before except with busy pocket syndrome.
Probably a setting (maybe a new one), 3rd party app or shiny new Samsung bug.
I recall that bug being caused by changing the recents settings in the homeup module. I think it was caused by one of the recents list options. I read it but can't confirm because I use Nova launcher

Found the issue.
Apparently if you use vertical apps list setting for the app drawer this issue arises.
I only switched back to one UI because of this though.
Hopefully Samsung fixes this.
I was using an love Nova launcher but didn't want the additional battery drain of one UI which has to run. Sigh, fix your bugs samsung.

It's truly not that much battery drain. Using galaxy maxhz to adjust refresh rates for situations that you don't need higher refresh rates I still average around 8.5hrs SOT at QHD.
