micro sd card LOW write speed - Galaxy S 4 General

Hi ,
I have problems with my micro sd card class 10 (16 gb) due to low write speed (write speed should be around 10 MB per sec.). I have been using this sd card since my HTC EVO 3D without a problem.
With my SGS4 I never get more than 2 MB/s of write speed (transfering files from pc to phone). I was also playing with sd cache (I tried 1024, 2048, 3072, 4096) but still nothing (SD booster apk).
I att. also benchmark of my card (done with A1 SD Bench).
Thank you in advance.

my Sd card also seems to have a low write speed which is weird considering its the same 32gb sd card i had in my old s3

I am using window7 x64 so I tought maybe something is wrong with my PC but I did not find any solution on google regarding this problem. I had tried a lot of aapks for changig sd cache but without success - I can change cache but I get no difference in write speed.

how have you tested the write speed? If u just link the phone to PC and copy files from pc to the SD Card, it should be slow, because gs4 has no hard disk mode (I don't know if with some apps can make a real hard disk mode, I always copy big files with card reader).
If u want to test the write speed, try to copy a big file from interne SD card to the extern SD card, note the copy paste time and calculate the speed.

DO NOT buy Kingston SD / A-Data MMC card

Hi
So, first i got an 512 MB A-Data MMC card to X-mas. I put it into my XDA, copied a few files onto it. Then i put it into a cardreader/write, copied some files onto it, put it back to XDA. I did the same a few more times, and...one time, about half day after i opened it, i was put it into my XDA, and it said "Card is not readable blahblah do you want to format it? :x Okay, formatted. Another few copy onto the card....same :x. Okay, tried to format into cardreader...copied few files, back to XDA...same. Then if i got out and put it back to my xda only once, it immediatelly cant read it, and wanted to format it. I've heard that T-mobile roms has problems with SD card, so i borrowed an Kingston SD, and i flashed an O2 rom into my XDA. Same results with the MMC card :x. SO i considered that the card is wrong and/or incompatible with XDA. Because the borrowed Kingston SD card was working w/o any problems, i replaced my mmc to an 512 MB Kingston SD. I've heard that Kingston SDs are slower than other SDs but because i knew that it'll work and i dont wanted to get a non-working memory card, i bought it. Well...it's not just slower that others...its S L O W. Copying with cardreader/writer on USB 1.1: 130 kb/s (with a-data mmc: ~330 kb/s). Installing 11 MB cab file from SD to SD: about 4 minutes! Creating backup on my XDA: i just couldn't wait to finish it....it was about 5 percent after 3-4 mins. I just wanted to share it, to avoid ppl buying this crap.
:x

Slow sd card

General SD card problems
If your getting general slow SD card, issues with content on there being read, backup the importent stuff like photos etc and format SD card, seems the old android files on SD card may be messing things up. thanks orihuri for the tip.
If this didnt help and your still having prolems with slow SD card speeds download sd booster from the market and set the cache to 3000+ thanks to lws803 for the tip.
Did this both.. but still very slow sd card if I copy files
from pc -> sd = slow
from sd -> pc = normal
suggestions ?
Could you specify what "slow" and "normal" translate to in mb/s?
And what ROM are you using? Perhaps the problem lies there.

I use always android revolution hd, I had 4.1.x and the speed was ok.
I upgraded to ics 5.0.1.. at that moment I had problems with the sd-card
Now I use ics 4.0.3 --> android revo hd 6.0.
I did format sd card, and boost sd card but not helped.
slow = under 300kb/s
normal = 6mb/s +
So copying from pc --> sd is very very slow 300kb/s and lower.

Don't use the phones connection to transfer stuff then, use an sdcard adaptor and problem is fixed. It's something some user experience on ICS ROM's
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using xda premium
You can try using cpu tuner to increase your sd cache size.....its set at a default of 512 on ics roms. I increased mine to 2048 and the write and read speed increased a ton.

It depends on what class is your card. if class 2 and/or 4 it's slow. I have class 6 and is fast ...
Thanks for the tips.. ill try.
My transfer rate is about 1,25mb/sec
Have been lot faster
Using ARHD 6.0.2
i only had this issue while i was on ICS based Roms. (insertCoin) Even though it was generally updated the issue was still there. Sometimes a reboot did the trick, but after some time i got annoyed and flashed back a GB rom.
Since 1.1.12 i am on Elegancia and there is no speed issue.......yet
Hey i have a 16gb class 10 micro sd and via usb when I am copying stuff over such as videos, music or anything, i'll be lucky if i get 600-700kb/s. Is this normal ?
I have a htc desire HD running ICS ice cold sandwich AOKP 7.4 (Stripper Edition). Im sure it did not copy things to the sd card this slowly before ?

Because SD to PC = Reading from SD
PC to SD = Writing to SD
Reading is always much faster than writing.

Good to know that the card I just bought performs so well!!
Is this the microsd pro rated at 70mb read and 20 write?
Can you test your read write speeds with the app SD card tester or a1 SD bench? I'd like to know if 18read 12 write is normal when tested in with a phone app.

yes this is the samsung pro 64gb micro sd rated at 70mb read 20mb write
i ran the a1 sd bench- using longer testing . (without this box ticked the ext sd was a ridiculous 500+mb/s read 13mb/s write)
internal mem- read 135mb/sec write 71mb/sec
external sd - 21.77mb/sec read , 14.09mb/sec write
Is there instructions/links that are specific to the note 3 on how to test the speeds?

not really rocket science. can use that a1 sd bench app. there are other apps arounds.
or time how long a file takes to transfer with a stop watch. then calculate the transfer speed , which is what i did with that single large file. since i'm mainly transfering movies/shows across, i figured this was a better real life test than using an app.

Remove the card and reformat it in a PC, you may have to delete the partition table and create a new one if it was adopted storage due to the encryption.
Also, I would look at the app called SD Insight and verify the card is not counterfeit, this is more common than we would like to admit. BTW, a Class 10 card may not be fast enough for adopted storage, a minimum of UHS1 is recommended and UHS3 is preferred, due to improved write speeds.
how to reformate sd card i tried diskpart comand, sd card formater but could not save my isssue... yes my card have two partion one is about 29 mb or one is about 16 mb..
thanks for the response..

I don't like the sound of that. Is it showing up as an actual drive (E.g. C:\ D:\)? If so, run a chkdsk on it. Search for "CMD" on Windows, and run it as administrator. Then type "chkdsk /f <your drive letter>". It should attempt to repair any broken areas of the card, but if it can't fix them it may throw up garbage text.

Windows will only recognize the first partition on an SD card.
TBH, with the price of SD cards if you can't quickly fix it by deleting all the partitions and reformating, throw it out and grab a new one.

SD Card is is broken ?

Hello Guys,
After installing several of customized ROM's Ive noticed that I can not remove anything from my sd card. Mover, I cant even format it. I tried everything including to put a sd card into adapter and tried to format it under windows. Still, nothing heave helped.
I've used every toutorial from the web without success. Im asking you kindly for an advice.
Use a low level formatting tool.
The only card I -had- use that on to make it functional again failed. It never ran right; never lost data but the phone randomly couldn't detect it forcing me to reboot.
If it won't format on the phone the safest course of action is to deep six it and get a new card.
The risk of losing a data drive unexpectedly outweighs the cost of the card! Use only name brand cards purchased from trusted sources. Use V30 or higher rated cards. The Sandisk Extreme is a good V30 rated card. I have the .5 and a 1tb ones. Slam it in, format, good to go. Zero issues.
Once formatted on the device, leave it there. Don't swap it around unless you format it with the new device first otherwise corruption is possible. Do uploads/downloads through the device to the card. Always format the card on the device before use. If it has a dismount option always dismount the card before pulling it.

Hello and thanks guys for advice's. I don't care about data. I just want to unlock it and use as before.
I sent pictures of the card in the attachment.
Hello,
Thx for advice's so far, but all these methods have failed. I can add a file , but can't remove it or format. I'm hopeless.

If you can't do a low level format the card is unrecoverable; trash. Sorry.
These cards can be damaged by ESD so keep the static down when handling them. If you can feel, hear or see static electricity there's more than enough to destroy the card. High G loading like a 3 foot drop onto concrete can cause internal damage as well.

Run an app like this

to confirm that your card is not damaged, and it is not fake ( not labeled higher than it is in fact ).

Hi,
Heres the output:
If SD-card isn't write-protected
then you may dismount the drive ( from Settings->Storage ) and re-mount the SD-card what may fix the problem: Verify it by moving a file from internal storage to SD-card.
I can copy a file without any problem, but after restart, everything goes back to the beginning.
So if I copy file A, and delete file B (same folder - dload), after restarting the phone file B is back agaian in the folder, but there is no file A anymore in the folder. File A is gone.
