Actually it shows 18.47GB doesn't really mean it. It's not that big. Try uninstall it.
Tbh. It doesn't really matter even if it's showing that size. It doesn't affect your usage

My previous stock 4.2.2 ROM even showed I have 98GB of apps. :silly:
You mean the setting section?
Yes I have 9X GB too
But it's not true

go to application manager and find gallery and clear it's data.
that will make it back to normal and never use that evil application ever. it's a monster, eats memory.

Agreed. Delete or freeze that horrible Gallery3D app and install something nice, like QuickPic.

Hello everyone..
This is my first post to nexus 5 thread. And i m totally noob in nexus 5. so please understand me.
I purchased nexus 5 16 GB yesterday. And after using it 1day , my ram consumption is around 890 mb.
So is it usual RAM consumption??
If not tell me some ram optimization app ...
Thanks in advance..

That doesn't sound crazy to me. It depends what apps you've installed - for example, Viber, WhatsApp, Skype among many other apps will remain in memory even when "closed". I've had my phone for about a week or 2 and it runs at about 900mb used and 900mb free. People here will often tell you to not get too hung up on memory usage - that's what it's there for.
I wouldn't install any memory management apps. If you are really worried I would root the phone and use Greenify to explicitly control any apps that you don't want to run in the background.

Actually i m not worrying about it because 2GB IS more than enough ram..
Thanks..
It's the old addage "unused RAM is wasted RAM" and it is actually true. If your RAM is always FULL though, android should be killing things off as they are used less so it should always run optimally. Every now and again, you get a bad app that needs to be force closed as it has a memory leak. I alwo think a reboot every now and again is a good practice for any system using RAM

Seems normal, to put it in perspective touchwiz uses like 1.1GB of RAM without running any apps, or at least my buddy says so on his s4 so don't nail me if i am wrong
Use an USB-OTG cable. AFAIK using that needs a custom kernel. Congrats for your new phone

Is there a App where you can see which App use the most RAM?
I know that you can see it in settings but maybe there is something better.

I've still not seen any evidence that a memory leak exists. But if you understand what a memory leak is, then perhaps you will be able to identify it in settings.
When an app is opened, an app will grab x amount of RAM. When it is closed, it will release the RAM. Typically a memory leak is when the app is closed, it does not release the RAM so when it is opened again, it has x*2 RAM, then closed and opened again x*3 RAM.. Memory leak can also be seen without closing apps, when the app just grabs more RAM for new commands/functions etc, and again - never releases it.
So just look for which apps are using a LOT of RAM.
Do you find anything?..
This is not really normal..

Your system is using a lot so perhaps that is the memory leak people are referring to. I never had this. Most RAM should be apps. I wouldn't expect any other apps could breakdown what "system" means though.
I use an app called System Panel. It shows you pretty much all the info for everything that's running on your phone.

I had it once. The infamous system using 1GB+ of RAM and apps restarting. I only had it once though.
i have a t-mobile galaxy s6 completely stock and since the 5.1.1 update i cant listen to music or podcasts for more than roughly 10 minutes without the app closing on its own. i've tried searching for other people having this problem but i havn't found anything. maybe i was wording my search wrong. but can someone steer me in the right direction to fix the problem before i trade in this phone.
Update: it was an auto stop setting in the battery management section. I guess after the update it selected all apps to auto stop. All is good again.
try to factory reset your phone....but remember it will delete everything...so backup....

Not sure this is a memory management problem. My music has NEVER shut off by itself. Doesn't playing music use the mediaserver anyway, which is a part of the OS? Which apps are you using for music/podcasts?

It only happening on 5.1.1? It might be some apps not working property with 5.1.1 only I guess.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro
Buy this app and freeze all unused and unwanted apps(including system apps) and this will let you free up lots of memory. It doesn't require root and only works for Samsung phones but I'm not sure if it still works on 5.1.1(5.0.2 it works fine).
That has nothing to do with ram management ... Because the same problem was on 5.0.2 andaybe t-mobile messed something up ...

ALL IS FIXED! In the battery management section there is a function to auto stop apps after 10 minutes of the screen being off. I guess after the update it selected all apps to be auto stopped. I will go back to loving my phone lol
I've noticed for the 2nd time, after shooting a good amount of videos which are saved to my 128gb micro sd. My phone starts slowing down, even when videos not being viewed or video app running in the background.. I did a factory reset thinking it was something to do going from root to stock but still the issue still persistent.. I have a Samsung Evo + sdcard.. Anyone else??
have you run out of memory? or is it saving the files to the sd card which can slow down for while

Negative I have plenty of internal memory available, just set the camera to default to the sd card since I got it. See the slowing down is within minutes of recording.Hard to explain to describe but it's definitely happening.. Oh I understand what you meant it can be a day later and still slows down.

So even am too using a Samsung evo+ ultra 128gb sdcard ..
This happens for me too , what I did is , rename the extensions of .mp4 to .hhh or any which can't be recognized . so that my camera app wont have access to the current videos and the lag is gone . give it a shot .
PS: use esfile explorer to change the extension of bulk videos in single step

Great .. I was using since 2012 . cause I got my first Android device In the same year
Honor 6x which i purchased a month back was absolutely working smooth in marshmallow.
I did a update to Nougat Emui 5...mobile would work fine & very smooth for some hours after a reboot or clear ram frequently. If we dont clear ram/reboot & use it for more than a day....It just dont...hangs, lags, stutters
Funny part is...it holds apps which i opened almost 7/8 hours ago from ram(i would have opened 8-9 apps easily after opening that app)
It seems emui has some memory management issues which isn't killing very old processes/apps
In developer options...If we set background processes limited to 4....voila!!! it goes smooth again...as old processes are killed
so my question here is ....can we limit background processes to 8-10...as 4 in developer options is so less
if not....any workaround to fix this.....I remember following d above mentioned method in my old galaxy s2, friend's redmi 1s....i feel ashamed to do it my 6x in 2017...c'mon Honor !!!
Y doesn't it kill apps/processes which are too old and allow everything to run in background....Unless & until we open a heavy memory demanding app like a game...it wont kill old processes running in background....WEIRD !!!
Please refrain from clearing apps from RAM. They will just resurrect and come back more RAM hungry.

Emui is known for its aggressive killing of app in background. You can have 20 apps stored in ram and if you launch ine more then the 1sr app will be killed. Thats hiw EMUI works
Shashank u can decice how many apps to runned in the background . Probably the smart power 4.0 mean about the battery manager.
