Screen Turning on by itself.. - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running on Stock 4.4 rooted and Franco's kernel, starting tonight, out of no where my phone keeps waking up on its own. At first I thought it may be an app so I rebooted the phone and its still doing it. Any ideas? I didn't install anything in the last 24 hours and i just noticed it 10 minutes ago.

I have the same thing. Doesn't happen an awful lot, but when it does, it happens a few times within a short time frame.
I started a thread about this a few days ago and no one had any input. I'm rooted, but still on stock.

I did a quick search before i posted and I didn't come across your post or I would have just wrote in that thread. Are you using stock kernel as well ?

How to track down reason for reboot?

During the last couple of days I've had seemingly random reboots. How could I find the reason for this?

Hi,
Try switching kernels.
New 0.2.6 is HERE
thanks for the answer but I'm running faux's AOSP kernel for CM7. Also the reboots didn't start after flashing a new kernel, I've been running 0.2.5b2 since Nov 20 (updated to 0.2.5b3 today - still reboots) but the reboots started sometime during the weekend.
ok I think Viber is the culprit. So no ideas on how I can find out if it really is Viber?
I have the same problem. I tried the stock rom, S-on... and I still have this problem...

Try to look with ES file explorer through your phone storage for /proc/last.kmsg. It should hold clues as to your last unexpected reboot.

There's no such file.
I couldn't view it in ES, I use Root Explorer.
It's in the system folder>proc> then open last.ksmg as a text file.

Did you install any apps after you restored to stock ROM? Was wifi enabled or were you on 3G at the time? What ROM, radio, and RIL do you use (before restoring stock ROM)?

I also used Root Explorer but there is no last.kmsg file. I've also searched for last.kmsg with Root Explorer.

Hey
I've actually had the same issue! So I think it started with the OTA HTC update that went through sometime last week. Since then I've noticed my phone just randomly restarts by itself all the time (like 3-5x in a day). Ive also noticed that the phone is getting very laggy especially while using certain apps like facebook or Messages and then sometimes I think it just restarts out of low memory resources. never had this problem before the OTA update! Glad to know that I'm not the only one.
Now if we can just figure out how to go back to the good 'ol days....

I've been running CM 7 since mid September though. So in my case it's some other cause.
I'm thinking it has something to do with networks. Because the majority of the crashes occur when I'm away from home/not stationary. I haven't been able to catch a crash with logcat since it almost never crashes (2 in total) while I'm at my computer. So now whenever I'm at the computer it is connected via USB and logcat is running.
Also the crashes very rarely (once or twice maybe) occur while I'm using the phone. Most of the time it crashes or has already crashed when I press the power button to wake the phone.
yeah. not sure.. id agree with everything youre saying about my crashes as well. Except i am running stock, no root. So, we'll see.

It may not be there unless there was an unexpected system crash/reboot. I have had my phone "hang" for some time until I gave it the three finger salute, but it didn't actually crash as such.

Atrix 2 Issues

So I have recently started experiencing issues with my Atrix 2 where it reboots itself about 15-25 times a day on its own. Its a very annoying issue that has been going on for roughly a week now. It also started all of a sudden. Any help would be appreciated.
Other Notes: 2.3.6 Rooted, Stock ROM, Currently Under Volted for battery saving,

I recommend disabling undervolting and/or trying to run without the overclocking modules.

I've went all day w/o my SD card and it did fine until about 2 hours ago. Since then it has rebooted 4 times. Any suggestions?

My fiancees original Atrix just started doing the same thing a few weeks back. We had to do a warranty exchange and get her another one. It's the phone.

[Q] screen won't come on

twice now when I press my power button my phone won't turn on. it seems to happen randomly, i pull it out of my pocket and I can't get it to turn on. I end up having to hold the button for like 30 seconds? and then it hard-restarts and everything is back to working fine.
I'm using Cataclysm with Franco.kernel
Qi still beeps when i set my phone on it.
think this is a rom/kernel issue or hardware?
cataclysm + franco gets such amazing battery life :victory:

I don't know about that!! B/C I'm using the same ROM from day 1 no problems like that. I suggest flash another kernel see what happens:good:
I also had this problem about 3 or 4 times. I was always using stock kitkat and it happened with both stock kernel and franco kernel.
i swapped it up completely and am running KANGAKAT with elementX. we'll see what happens! thanks for the answers everybody.
Had the same issue. Called goggle to get RMA. It just arrived today. The sad part is this one is going right back because everytime I try to install a widget, the launcher crashes (stock launcher and 3rd party). I barely have any apps installed at this point. Looking like a faulty device. My original works fine besides the random instance of the screen not coming back on. Thought I was the only one since I started a topic about this a few weeks ago and got no replies. I'm 100% stock and unrooted

This problem started with me after I installed the Franko Kernel.
Spent the whole night reverting to stock.
Not sure what I uninstalled, but my widgets are now working again. Still no idea what causes the screen to randomly not turn back on. Hoping this one doesn't have the same issue

[Q] Freezing and rebooting?

It's happened several times in the past three weeks, seemingly at random. I'll either be texting or playing a game, and boom. Phone goes unresponsive for about 4 seconds and the boot animation pops up. Sure enough, it's reset.
I have no idea how to get logs or I'd post them. Googling around at the time of this post.
Nexus 5, black, 16g, AT&T and (rooted) stock ROM.

Not to my knowledge. If I am it's because an app I installed did it.
How can I check to be sure?

It's happened 4 or 5 times with Hangouts, at least once with Chrome and I don't recall what I was doing for the rest, I just made note of it resetting when I didn't intentionally turn it off myself.

Would there be a quick way to restore my phone to the condition it's in (preferably without the hangups)? Because I'd like to avoid that option if possible.
I pulled a logcat off my phone (and let it run for quite some time, 77k lines. Eesh) and there's a few warnings that kept popping up that I don't know how to decipher since I'm not an Android developer.
-[edit]-
Sorry, stock kernel. Only non-stock thing I've done is root it and installed few apps that either need or work better with root permissions.
I find it odd that the phone would do this randomly considering you are running stock ROM and kernel and all you did was root. With that being said a factory reset is your best option. Use titanium backup or helium.
What method did you use to root?

this is a common problem no matter what rom you are on (some more common than others).
it almost always is a problem(s) in the code, and needs to be fixed by the developer.

yea, it is random some times. can happen a lot, then not for days.
you have to watch the "up time" in settings/about phone, i have had it reboot while i was sleeping before and didnt know it.
if you can make it past a week with out a reboot, thats really good for a custom rom. most i have made it was almost 300hrs.
