[ROM][4.4.4 STOCK KTU84P][BSZKitKat v1.6][SuperSU|ZipAlign|DEODEX|ODEX][20/06/14] - Nexus 7 Android Development

Stock 4.4.4 ROM (KTU849) for WiFi Nexus 7 (2012) Grouper
Hi! This was created using @dsixda's kitchen (which I had to tweak for our device to get working). This was created by unpacking the latest KitKat OTA (KTU84P) and adding SuperSU/busybox...
Featuring:
Stock Android 4.4.4 KTU84P for Nexus 7 (2012)
4-way power menu! Thanks @cargobr151 - Need to get an update or figure out how to do this for now hopefully we can use GravityBox...
Google Experience Launcher (GEL) or Launcher2 (NOGEL) - you will be asked which to use on first boot. Don't be afraid to pick "always use" you can change the default launcher at any time in Settings --> Home - What happened to GEL? Just grab the Google Now Launcher from play store (no room on /system partition)... If coming from a prior version with GEL and not wiping data you should be fine.
Busybox v1.22.1 (needed for Trickster MOD)
SuperSU 2.00 with latest SU binary
Odexed & Deodexed
FOTAKill.apk in /system/app to prevent future OTA notifications (thanks for the suggestion)
DEODEX (DEODEX is here for themers and by request)
v1.6 - MEGA https://mega.nz/#!mZ1UUYjR!7tJG3tS7i6qDswEAEZ37J1fWjdOEenrKBs_XFwXKAxk
v1.6 - AFH https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862728316
NOTE DEODEX takes longer to boot than ODEX on FIRST boot after wiping dalvik!
md5 - 92013590d4bb58d628cf7242a2893e57
ODEX (Stock is Odexed from Google)
v1.6 - MEGA https://mega.nz/#!mJ0h2RjQ!HRTlGdxOu-FOtDn7dOS9QnTkDvxQAdo9fDp6eiyd_ec
v1.6 - AFH https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298956370
md5 - 9517b7ae70113792bfe8bf5d4d77eaf0
KTU84P Factory Image (for reverting to stock - NOTE running flashall.bat will WIPE internal storage - make backups!!!!)
MEGA https://mega.co.nz/#!eJtRwaTL!RlT3aAFeKnz1mV55NmC5t_caP5RL2UaUA7PyFLk62AU
md5 - 176a1561f322e86216b7edaaa4b2c6bf
CAN flash with no wipe over any of my 1.0/1.1/1.2/1.2.2/1.3/1.5/1.6 builds and stock JWR66Y/KRT16O/KRT16S/KOT49H/KTU84L/KTU84P
Coming soon:
ART? (Sorry still no ART in 4.4.4 for our device! No overhead on /system partition...)
Advanced Power Menu
GEL baked in (again)?
NOTES:
BACKUP using TWRP and Titanium - save those files off the device to a USB stick external HDD or whatnot! Not responsible for lost data!
Be sure you are at bootloader 4.23 or you could have slow charge issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2150251
ONLY TESTED USING TWRP 2.7.1.1/2.8.0.0 - NOTE there was a buggy release of 2.7.1.1 that doesn't play nice with the update-binary in my zip. If any issue flashing/booting first verify MD5 and then flash latest TWRP linked towards the bottom of this page http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/grouper. Should also flash fine under CWM but I personally prefer TWRP. A future update may move to the newer update-binary and updater-script files used in ROMs compiled from source like CM.
May need to unplug and replug USB cable to see Nexus 7 storage under My Computer! (or toggle MTP in Settings --> Storage --> Menu button in upper right)
If coming from STOCK 4.4/4.3 I can't think of a need to wipe - otherwise if issue or coming from another ROM (PA, CM, etc.) please do a data wipe and cache/dalvik-cache wipe
GApps are the stock ones that come with this tablet - no need to flash GApps.
You will see a BUNCH of updates when you sign into Google if you've wiped Data - results in an initial slowdown.
Before you ask, no ART doesn't appear to be working. I will make a new AOSP-based ROM for 4.4.4 for those wanting ART.
Thanks:
@dsixda for the Kitchen! (Consider donating to him work is paused on the kitchen he said due to health)
@Chainfire for SuperSU and keeping it updated for KitKat!
@azoller1 for v4.23 bootloader thread and flashable zip
@robgee789 for all the assistance in this thread!
@Metallice for M-Kernel
@RobZarzecki and @robgee789 for cool GravityBox tips!
@cargobr151 for 4 way power menu!
@treIII for being one of the first to flash and requesting stuff like Deodex and GEL
Phandroid for GEL article gave me idea to integrate into ROM http://phandroid.com/2013/11/14/how-to-install-google-experience-launcher-with-ok-google-command/

Kernel/Apps:
M-Kernel a68 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2168787 thanks @Metallice!
Use Trickster MOD Kernel Settings - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bigeyes0x0.trickstermod
Recommended settings are at the bottom of the first post in the M-Kernel thread!
I like to use the tablet to read at night and the screen is far too bright for this so I use Lux Auto Brightness - try the free version before deciding to purchase - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vitocassisi.luxlite
I use Titanium Backup (also purchased PRO Key) to backup my apps and data - once again try free before deciding to purchase - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
To keep SuperSU toast notifications from causing any lag I go into SuperSU settings and uncheck Show notifications
In Settings --> Location I set mode to Battery saving. There's a lot to tweak here but this is all I've been setting.
In Settings --> Security under DEVICE ADMINISTRATION I uncheck Verify apps and check Unknown sources (mostly for Titanium Backup purposes)
I use AdAway to block ads (it edits your HOSTS file). No longer available on the Play Store (guessing because Google doesn't like the fact it blocks Google Ads...). I install the APK from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190753. I just use the defaults works well.

This installed. Nice job. But my question is why does it not come with the experience launcher? Thanks

can i flash this straight from a 4.3 Rom, or do i need to go to stock first?

This is a nice rom but I can't get my tablet to charge. Any idea why?

Does auto-rotate works in this ROM? I tried stock + Go launcher and auto-rotate don't work, but only work when manual set to Horizontal or Vertical from Go launcher setting!

Is this based on the KRT**0 or KRT**M build?

First Impression:
Unlike the other stock one, this installs..
Auto rotation works, No GEL not a deal breaker tho

Installed using MultiRom. No problems installing. Loads without errors, signed into Google. No problems. Recommended. Thank you. Nice work

Try the PA GApps package http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=7988
At time of writing the one to use is pa_gapps-full-4.4-20131118-signed.zip just flash it in recovery! Also be sure to turn on Google Now.

If stock 4.3 (JWR66Y) should not need to wipe data or system :>

Hey guys just Flashed this from a 4.3 stock room and all is good (not sure on the white icons at the top though lol) but Is there a way to get xposed framework working on this

Xposed still doesn't support 4.4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401 But I will keep an eye on it! This is the first I've heard of it. Google \is moving away from all of the ICS blue theming everywhere, so you will see lots more white in 4.4...

I've just Flashed faux ultimate kernel and that's running great too very nice job you did here mate

Thanks! My ultimate goal was to get a stock 4.4 where rotation works and the keyboard doesn't pop when going home from other apps (the stock rom PA released was awesome though if you ignore those things and came out WELL in advance of OTA)... To do that I had to wait for the OTA and then it took me 5-6 days learning edify and how to use the kitchen
I will try to get the google experience (I believe it is Launcher3.apk?) working if I cut a new release, and look into getting ART available in dev settings.

I just connected my nexus to my laptop to move a few files but it doesn't pop up on my laptop like it used to so I can't move things via the USB cable

[ROM][AROMA][CM7/CM9]Omicrom v1 for Vodafone 858 - 22.03.2013

This ROM is built for Vodafone 858/Huawei U8160 - It may work on other phones, I don't care.
ROOT + RECOVERY INSTALL HELP HERE...(my own method)
After I relese Omicrom v1.1, if after 24'hours I don't get 100 downloads in total, I pass this project to anyone else who has time developping. I am working for a cause and I need money donated...
The idea of the ROM is very simple:
Let's say you get bored of stock and root you phone and download a 100 mb JellyBean ROM, but you find it useless and download another 100 mb ICS ROM. You get bored of it and download, let's say MiUI. And so on. A lot of wasted time. I decided to make a package of ROMs so, in case you get bored of one, you simply reboot in recovery and flash the other one. But,my package isn't like downloading two .zips and putting them on SDcard, it's more than that. I took the best ROMs out there, tweaked them for more performance and added some options to flash along the ROMs (for the first release just launchers, more to come)
First off, I want to thanks the people/developers who made this possible:
-Brokn.Down for his CM7 base and for helping me out with the updater-script;
-ylynka, my friend, for testing the ROM as I don't have the phone avalaible;
-ReloadedICS for an awesome app;
-xda for hosting the thread;
What you get with the package:
-ultimate CM7 (JellyBean like);
-lite and lightning fast CM9;
-AROMA Installer (not many options though in the first release);
-Reloaded app for CM9 only (is still under testing, so please report any bug caused by this).
What is AROMA?
Find out more here.
AROMA may or may not work with our devices' touchscreen. Do not panic. Use the volume keys to navigate and the power button to select.
Why trusting my ROM?
It's hard for me, as its developer, to tell you because I can only say good things. Take 10 minutes of your life to test it and tell me why you trust it!
CM7 features:
~Hightly optimized rom for play games and multitask
~Beats Audio™ By Dr. Dre (ported from HTC One X+)
~Holo Launcher Optimized
~99% LDPI resized
~Opera Mini included for fast web browsing
~QuickPic instead of stock cm7 gallery
~Notes, Stopwatch, and other essential apps included
~U8160/80 device parts settings modded
CM7 not working:
-GPU (as the device has integrated GPU in CPU) - shouldn't be a problem
CM9 features:
2D acceleration (using copybit)
Audio
Bluetooth
Bluetooth tethering (?)
Camera - preview, picture taking, barcode scanner mode
GPS
Lights
Sensors
Telephony - calling, messaging, mobiledata
Touchscreen (multitouch)
USB Mass Storage
USB tethering
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi Hotspot
Swap
zRam (i.e. compcache)
CM9 not working:
Camcorder mode
OMX encoders/decoders (e.g. Youtube HQ video playback)
Bluetooth - when enabled, Bluetooth will cause the phone to constantly hold
a wake lock, preventing the phone from sleeping. Turn off Bluetooth when you don't need it.
FM Radio - no CM9 radio app yet exists, but libaudio has support included. This means that some third-party apps (e.g. Spirit FM) can work.
Gallery - after installing Google Apps, you will have two different Gallery apps installed. We need to use the legacy Gallery app, because the newer Gallery2 (and Google's version, GoogleGallery) requires OpenGL extensions that our phone cannot support. You are free to delete one of the duplicate applications from /system/app using CMFileManager (in root mode).
Trebuchet - after first installation, the default background wallpaper may be misaligned, leaving some black banding at the sides. This only occurs on first start, and the problem will correct itself on the next reboot / relaunch of Trebuchet.
USB tethering - the phone will freeze if you remove the cable during tethering. Make sure to disable tethering via the menu option manually when you want to remove the phone from the computer.
Aroma Options:
For CM7 - launchers only (more to come)
For CM9 - launchers, mini gapps and ReloadedICS (if you do not want to participate in telling me if app works or not and want a stable system, don't flash this while it is beta)
Downloads: v1 - http://d-h.st/mzq
v1.1 - http://d-h.st/TIt
Mount /system before installing anything!
After you install CM9 it may not boot for some reasons. Try flashing this fix, then reboot. If it still does not work, flash this fix and reboot.

---Installing ChainFire3D Gaming MOD---
0. Before starting, you should know that I am not responsible for any damage of your phone. Before this process, take 10 minutes to backup the ROM in case the process goes wrong. This is still under testing, report any bugs, etc.
1.Download modded apk and plug-ins (mediafire) and unzip it in a folder on the root of SD-Card
2.Download Chainfire3D from PlayStore (the free version, you can support devs later)
3.Open Chainfire3D and install the driver, then reboot
4.After reboot, uninstall Chainfire3D.
5.Install modded apk provided, then open it (SU rights needed)
6.Then close Chainfire3D and open it again from PlayStore
7.Close it and quick reboot (with ROM Toolbox maybe)
8.After quick reboot you must reboot (normal)! After reboot you can't open Chainfire3D (that's normal) that's why you must reinstall Chainfire3D (modded apk)! Then you open Chainfire3D and install the plug-ins. After this you must fix the Market Settings then you must reboot
9. That’s it. You must tweak each game to work as you wish: smooth and HD.
10. Support CF3D devs!

Ok, I get it. The bootloop is caused by aroma which does not support the command to retouch the binaries. So I created the first fix with this command and the second fix to reset te build.prop, but as I can see it does not work. My friend told me that he booted ICS from aroma so I will ask him how he did it.
Anyway, tomorrow, 24th March, I will release a new version, with more options than release 1. So, just use CM7 till then. I will try to fix the bug!
Thanks for the feedback!

I haven't got ICS yet, and I haven't got any more ideas what to put inside AROMA..if you give me ideas, I will mare a 1.3 version. Moreover, if anyone could fix ICS, I'd be grateful.

[Q&A] SlimKat Rom

I am starting this thread so all issues related to SlimKat Rom can be documented in one single place. Please post your Questions & Answers in here instead of in the SlimKat Rom Thread, lets try and keep that thread clean.
SlimKat ROM Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2511512
All Credit goes to the developers, Please support them for continued development
I will try my best to keep the thread updated and have questions and solutions posted in the first three posts of this Thread:
How to Install SlimKat ROM
Assuming you have already rooted, unlocked boot loader and installed custom recovery. If not there are multitude guides to do so, search in the forum.
Step 1:
Download the following:
Current SlimKat ROM: http://slimroms.net/index.php/downloads/dlsearch/viewcategory/979-hammerhead
Note SlimKat Rom is in beta currently
Current SlimGapps: http://slimroms.net/index.php/downloads/dlsearch/viewcategory/978-addons4-4/downloads/dlsearch
Note Slim Gapps are also in Beta, You can choose to download the full Slimgapps or the minimalgapps thats your choice. You can also download the photosphere addon.
Current SuperSu: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
Step 2:
Place the downloaded file onto your nexus 5 using the provided cable, alternatively you can also download the files directly onto your phone using the browser.
Reboot into Recovery
Wipe data/factory reset (required)
Wipe Cache Partition (required)
I also always do the following (optional)
In mounts/ Storage
Format /system (optional)
Format /data (optional)
Format/cache (optional)
These are not necessary but I have made it a habit to do so.
Once you have performed the required resets, select Flash Zip file and flash in the following sequence
Flash SlimKat Rom
Flash SlimGapps
Flash SlimPhotoSphere (optional) Note: Does cause audio lag in recorded video with some kernels also videos are darker after photosphere flash. See Q&A section
Flash Kernel ( optional: only if you want to use a custom kernel)
Flash SuperSu ( I prefer SuperSu, SuperUser does not work properly for Me)
Reboot
Now your good to go and setup your phone.
Step 3: (optional)
~ Note for ART I follow this procedure:
After Flashing, once the phone starts I skip through the setup screen
Go to Settings-> About-> tap on build 7 times to enable developer options
Go to Settings-> Developer Options -> Select Runtime --> Art
Reboot and let it finish what its doing takes 10-15 mins.
Once done setup your phone how you like.
Reserved : Guide To SlimKat Features
Features And Guide
Once I have time I will break down all the slim settings and what they do
Features Not Included
PIE - Can be installed using Xposed Framework
HALO - Can be installed using Xposed Framework
NOTE: Xposed Framework does not play nice with ART, You will need to stick with Dalvik to use Xposed.
Feature Request
I will update this as users request features but please dont request features that can be added via addons such as xposed. There is no point adding those features to the ROM, those who want them can always install via Xposed
Keyboard Automatically Switching to Numeric Keypad when a field requires numbers only
Questions and Answers
Frequently Asked Question
http://slimroms.net/index.php/faq
These Are for SlimKat 4.4.2 beta 1.95 + Slim_AIO_gapps_4.4.2 beta1.x
These will be updated/removed as SlimKat updates
DPI/ Screen Issues
[Q] What are the default DPI's
Stock Kitkat = 480
Stock SlimKat = 361
Lowest DPI working for me = 370
[Q] Water in the Google Maps app is distorted, streaked or all over the place when zoomed out
Its a DPI issue, this is how i resolved it:
Download: Rom Toolbox lite ( Free) from PlayStore
Run app -> Swipe left to switch tab to performance --> click build.prop Editor button
on this new screen-> swipe right to bring out menu on the left side of the screen
First option is LCD density Click that-->change Value to whatever you want --> click ok and reboot
once Rebooted do the following :
Settings-> Apps-> Maps-->clear data, also clear Cache--> Force Close
Open Maps and confirm everything is working.
Some users have been able to get the maps to work properly at 361 DPI, but the lowest value at which it will work for me is 370. Default Stock Kitkat DPI is 480. Default Stock SlimKat DPI is 361
[Q] Everything is too small on default SlimKat, how can i fix that
two solutions:
go into settings-->display-->font-->change font size to make it bigger
change DPI:
Download: Rom Toolbox lite ( Free) from PlayStore
Run app -> Swipe left to switch tab to performance --> click build.prop Editor button
on this new screen-> swipe right to bring out menu on the left side of the screen
First option is LCD density Click that-->change Value to whatever you want --> click ok and reboot
Default Stock Kitkat DPI is 480, stock SlimKat DPI is 361, 400 ~ 420 DPI works best for me
Recovery
[Q] TWRP asking for a password, even though user never setup a password
When TWRP asks for a password, hit cancel.
Then go to Wipe and Factory Reset.
If that doesn't work, then restart your recovery.
If that still doesn't work then try reflashing TWRP again.
Camera
[Q] What is True View in the Camera App
True view is a camera feature to show the whole field of view of the camera.
By default the field of view is stretched and cut on the sides to fit fullscreen.
http://slimroms.net/index.php/faq/slimbean/323-what-is-true-view
[Q] Why is the Camer app Missing HDR+
HDR+ and Photosphere are closed-source. AKA no way to be built from source and must be distributed as an add-on.
Flash photosphere camera if you want HDR+.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48832042&postcount=27
Note: PhotoSphere Addon currently adds a audio lag in recorded videos and recorded Videos are much darker, Read Q&A below about audio lag when photosphere is installed, link for photosphere is in the first post ( Slim gapps/addons)
[Q] Audio Lag in recorded video after Installing Slim PhotoSphere
Flash a different kernel, that will fix the issue
confirmed fixed with trinity.
in Recovery, without wiping:
Flash ROM
Flash Gapps
Flash PhotoSphere
Flash Kernel of choice
Flash SuperSu
Reboot
NOTE: Videos are much darker when Photosphere addon has been installed
Misc
[Q] How do I access the chamber of secrets on SlimKat
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48830608&postcount=25
[Q] Where are the QuickRecord recordings stored, are they cleared at boot and are they overwritten
/data/data/com.android.systemui/files/
It's never cleared from a reboot, but yes, rewritten each time you record.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48832011&postcount=2577
[Q] Where is the clear all in the recent apps list
Clear all is not there as it is not needed, the list just shows the recently ran apps and provides the means of switching between apps quickly. Android will kill apps when needed there is no need to kill apps
[Q] I have no Mobile Network ( not data but no coverage at all)
This applies to only those who have no mobile network i.e they do not have a signal at all on their device and it does not say no service.
You somehow wiped the radio firmware, That needs to be restored.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2514095
[Q] What is ART and what does it do
If you really need to know what ART is then you should not be using ART.
ART stands for Android Run Time, it is an experimental run time which is being developed by google to replace the current dalvik run time. Once released users would be able to get better performance and better battery life.
Currently, as ART is in experimental stage ( I would say Alpha, not even beta) the benefits of switching to ART are minimal. Not all apps are compatible with ART and most users will not see any performance or battery life improvements.
Thats why google buried it deep into the settings. Use at your own discretion. I suggest staying with Dalvik run time till further progress has been made on ART.

I'm not sure how to get that, I think you have to connect the device to the computer and use something in the SDK to be able to record screen, I could be wrong. Try searching for it. If I find a solution I'll let you know.

Thanks.
I am not sure if and when PIE is implemented if it would include LMT with it therefore i left it out. I believe the xposed framework PIE does have LMT support.
Hope there are enough people here to help me out. I've been using Slim ROMs for a couple years on G-Nex and now Nexus 5. On the last couple releases I've been having issues with Google Maps not getting a GPS fix, or when it does get a fix it's off by nearly a mile. GPS Data, Waze, Gas Buddy, etc. all work fine. After spending nearly a day re-flashing the ROM, app, clearing data, etc., I finally tried another ROM (Purity) and discovered that Google Maps gets a fix in less than 10 seconds and is within 20' accuracy. I used the latest Slim Gapps on Slim 1.95 and the CM Gapps on the Purity ROM. Has anyone had similar problems?

I just reflashed slimkat on my phone, took less then 5 seconds for it to get a GPS lock. Check the following:
Settings-> locations -> mode
Make sure high accuracy is selected
Also are you using a custom kernel ?
Flash sequence for ROMs is
Slimkat ROM
Slimgapps
Kernel ( if using custom kernel)
Supersu ( supersu always comes last)
Reboot.

Anyone have any issues with the stock Slim Explorer app. I've never really used it before as I've always been an ES Explorer user but want to switch having the auto toggle TRDS modes. The app loads up but as soon as I scroll the screen the app closes and I get a "Slim Explorer has stopped" message. I've seen it in the past a handful of times I went to change DPI with it before installing ES. I did a complete clean install(ie. manually wiped everything and re-downloaded and re-setup all my apps instead of restoring them with Titanium), sha matches, so I can't think of anything else that could be the issue. Maybe it doesn't agree with Super SU???
Yep, did all that except for the SuperSU bit. I did use SuperSU on the Purity install though but haven't had any problems with the built in Superuser before. I'll nandroid back to the Slim ROM to give it a try. It was with the stock kernel.

I've had issues with super user so always use supersu, but maps has nothing to do with either.
Did u check the settings?
Also sometimes you have to be outside to get a GPS lock,
Also try this:
Settings -> apps-> maps.
Clear data clear cache force close.
Reboot
Go outside and open maps c if that fixes it

OK, but it will be a while - when I went into recovery (TWRP) it asked for a password (which I haven't set) then failed to backup the existing ROM.

I have Super SU installed and working already seeing as I use Faux kernel as well as I've always had issues(even on a SlimBean port on Evo LTE)with Superuser unmounting the system as RW. It's weird. It only happens when I scroll from within the emulated/legacy/0 storage. I can scroll within the device partition and change settings just fine.
Do you use ART??? Only other thing I can think of.
Edit: Added a screenshot to the post as well as a bug report

[ROM][TW 4.3]I535 Mostly Stock - ML1 (05.11.14)

THIS IS ONLY FOR USERS ON MF1 OR EARLIER BOOTLOADER WITH CUSTOM RECOVERY (cwm or twrp)
THIS WILL NOT AFFECT BOOTLOADER OR MODEM AS THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED.
GENERAL DISCLAIMER : YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR PHONE!
This is a stock, rooted TW 4.3 rom based off of the recent ML1 update. It does not contain a bootloader or modem. KNOX has been NIXED too. ThePagel was able to grab the .tar which made this possible. Go throw a huge thanks his way.
First build was packaged in all of it's bloated glory. Just wanted everyone to see what all the update had to offer....minus the locked bootloader...lol
Second build, I did some debloating to see how much we could trim this thing up and still meet everyone's needs. Good thing I posted a .zip of all of the apps I pulled out, huh. One man's bloat is another man's treasure.
This time, I'll leave it up to you. I rebuilt it with Aroma to allow everyone to choose what apps get installed.
Big thanks to Imoseyon and Ktoonsez for allowing me to include their kernels. Go throw your wallet at them for making this phone run awesomely again.....or at least throw them some thanks.
Newest build includes my stock kernel built from Samsung source.
Get the ML1 Modem here.
See Imoseyon's Lean Kernel thread here.
See Ktoonsez's KT747 Kernel thread here.
Samsung source http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=sub&sub=F&searchValue=sch-i535
Features:
Aroma Installer (see Changelog in Post #2 for options)
Pre-Rooted
Deodexed
Zipaligned
Busybox
init.d support (Lean Kernel and KT747 Kernel)
4-way Reboot Menu
Tether Mod
To Install:
Must be on MF1 or earlier bootloader
Place .zip on ext. sdcard
Wipe data, cache and dalvik cache (if you don't wipe, don't bring up any strange rom behavior or quirkiness here)
Install rom
Upon reboot, you will be asked if you want to "disable recovery flash", always answer "NO". Don't worry, this will not over-write your recovery, it is just part of the root process.
When booting for the first time, it may take up to 5 minutes. DON'T PANIC!

FAQ
Q: I took the update, can I install this?
A: Sorry, your bootloader is now locked and currently there is no method for installing custom roms.
Q: If I install this can I go back to any other rom?
A: Yes. This is just a custom rom like any other rom that you have flashed. It does not have the ability to lock your bootloader because none of that GARBAGE is included.
Q: Will this update me to the newest modem?
A: No, the modem is not included though it is highly recommended that you update to the ML1 modem (flash modem only, no other firmware).
Q: I know that I'm still on the MF1 bootloader but I flashed this and now I've got a big yellow triangle and it says something about unauthorized software. What happened?
A: You forgot to unlock your bootloader. Now you need to Odin back to MF1 and then unlock it with the Casual Tool.
Q: Will the Xposed framework mods work on this rom?
A: Several people have been using them with varying results. Load up a few and let us know how they work!
Q: Will google wallet work on this rom?
A: Yes. See here for instructions.
Q: Why does my flash go off when I receive a call?
A: It's a glitch in the update. See here.
Q: Why is my battery draining so fast?
A: Here's a couple of reasons that have been discovered here and here.
Q: Why am I showing to be connected to 4G and Wifi at the same time?
A: Either use TiBu and freeze "Caller Name ID 1.14.10" or your favorite root explorer and delete Canid.apk.

First boot will ask about fixing recovery. Subsequent reboots will ask to fix root. Always "just say no"....lol.

I read the warning about not flashing the firmware. I did update the modem/ baseband already. Only the modem though. Am I still safe to flash?

Yes. Your safe.
Thanks for this guys! It's my late Christmas gift. I have been waiting for TW 4.3 and held when the stock was released. It didn't take long! I bet those guys that went with the OTA are wishing they would have waited a few more days.

[ROM][AOSP][Flo++0.4.2 (2014/04/06)] [Beta]

*** Disclaimer
Flashing a ROM is an inherently risky operation. You alone are responsible for any damages, data loss, or dead kittens caused by flashing this ROM. Nexus devices are notoriously hard to brick, but should you do so by either your own error, omission, or a by flaw in this ROM you have been forewarned.
Introduction
Flo++ is an AOSP Kitkat (KOT49H) based ROM with the stock kernel aimed mostly at minimalists that want a clean base installation with basic power user functionality. GAPPS are not installed to allow you to flash flash the GAPPS package of your choice. I recommend going with one of the PA GAPPS packages.

FAQ
Q. Can I install this without a custom recovery?
A. In theory, Yes. Just do a factory reset and it *should* work. You do have backups , Right?
As of v0.3 you must use a custom recovery (until I resolve the signing issue using AROMA)
Q. Why doesn't GPS work?
A. Short answer: Actually it does (confirmed with GPS test), you need to install a GPS app or flash GAPPS with Google Maps in order to actually "use" GPS. Longer answer here.
Q. Backup and restore doesn't work. whats wrong?
A. Backup and restore functionality comes with GAPPS or a special transport service written for a storage service. Since I do not intend to host anyone's backups there is a fix posted here. This issue will be fixed before the ROM is released from Beta status (version 1.0).

Known Bugs /Issues
[20140408] Backup and reset do not work out of the box. - workaround here . This will be fixed in next release, but you can enable the function by following the directions in the post.
[20140314] Aroma signature breaks ROM signature. Will fix this when I get a chance, but until then use unsigned zip.
[20149316] It has been reported that GPS is not functional on v0.3 will investigate the report and update as soon as possibile
GPS works (confirmed with GPS test) For user functionality install a third party GPS Nav app or flash PA mico modular GAPPS and install GMaps.

Whoops I misread your question. This is built GNU make 3.81 x86_64-pc-linux-gnu on Debian Jessie/SID using the standard AOSP /prebuilts. I have not decided whether or not to use Linaro.
Right now I'm working on getting the Aroma installer configured. The next version (probably tonight or tomorrow) will include the qc dalvik and bionic optimizations and a couple more tweaks.

This ROM is still a work in progress but please feel free to let me know if you have any suggestions or see any problems. I'm uploading the next incremental change right now (AROMA Installer and QCOMM optimizations)
[update: Having some issues uploading to AFH at the moment, will post the link once I can verify the md5 is good and the upload isn't corrupted]

Advanced reboot and immersive mode and I would be set, especially with the QC and bionic stuff.
This is the perfect ROM I think for me to build my car nexus off since I will be running Timur's kernel + services. I want as minimal as possible.

You should build with GCC 4.8. Its under Google source And only requires a few chsnges to work.

you might consider installing Xposed and gravitybox(KK) this would neatly solve the power menu and immersive mode. I run both on my non dev rom with no stability issues whatsoever (I don't run any other Xposed modules on that ROM)

I couldn't get gps to work at all on this rom, did you perhaps trim a little too much?
Btw, how did you build this? I returned my flo today since Verizon has the deb/lte for 49.99 this weekend! There is nothing Like this over there and would really like something similar, even if I have to build it myself but I am clueless on how

I'll have a look at this and recheck the proprietary blobs to make sure they are current.
If you want to give building a ROM for deb a go just start here:
http://source.android.com/source/index.html
To compile it you'll need to have a working 64 bit Linux installation, it seems most of the folks here are using Ubuntu. There are tons of tutorials and if you get stuck shoot me a PM and I'll help if I can.

Apparently this is a semi "known" issue with AOSP stock builds. It has been reported in the past that GPS won't work without GMaps. I flashed PA mico modular GAPPS (it doesn't have Gmaps) and installed GPS test and it reported that the GPS is indeed working.
For a car installation this would work well if you have a third party Navigation app you prefer over GMaps.
I then installed GMaps which further confirmed GPS is working. I've come to the conclusion that this is not "broken" , but is a feature that is not supported "out of the box" by the AOSP build. Makes sense to me since supporting the hardware is OS responsibility, where utilizing the data is application level responsibility.
Any updates ?
Mind if I try to port this to deb?

I took a short (enforced) break due to internet issues last week. Right now I'm in the process of recompiling the ROM and cleaning up the installer so It will be a couple days before I upload a new version.
Have at it I don't have a deb device to test with, but if you have any problems I can try to help you through it in PM.
Work issues have slowed down my progress (double shifts and no days off... ) The next update will include freshly compiled Android Terminal and the latest update of SuperSu.
This project is not abandoned - just slowed down for a bit

TESTING!!

[ROM] Semi-stock/Super-clean/Tweaked/Rooted

I've been learning how to build a custom rom for the S5...
Finally got my first stable version that I'd love to share!
Special Features:
Stock Base
Rooted - SuperSU
BusyBox integrated.
zip-aligned
Build.prop tweaks for speed, battery, usb debug
Removed all Verizon/Samsung apps that I could possibly strip out - without having any problems in settings, etc.
(Except S Voice - I just skipped including that because it's useless to me.)
WiFi Hotspot - WITH NOTIFICATION TOGGLE
**** Almost all apps have been moved to /data/app - which means you can uninstall them, not just turn them off.
Replacements:
Replaced stock launcher with Holo Launcher HD
Chrome replaced with Firefox
Messages replaced with Handcent
Includes:
AdFree (Root)
Titanium Backup
I DO NOT WARRANTY THIS ROM IN ANY WAY.
INSTALL AT YOUR OWN RISK. DONT HATE ME IF IT DESTROYS YOUR DEVICE.
I've been running it on my device for the day and it's doing great!
Install instructions:
Use safestrap
Any ROM slot should be fine. I know it's not possible currently in safestrap to make a smaller system partition, but really only 2GB is needed for system.
I'd highly recommend a clean slot -- for some reason while testing safestrap wouldn't fully wipe the data partition.
PLEASE NOTE:
After initial boot, you will be sent through the Setup Wizard, as usual.
Immediately following completion of first boot, your phone will "go crazy" for a few seconds. The select wallpaper window will open (dont do anything), then the screen will go blank for a second.
* Setup Wizard may force close. DONT PANIC!! Everything i still working right. Just click OK.
I have set up a One-Time Init script to install the WiFi Hotspot toggle into notification panel, change the default lockscreen/homescreen backgrounds, enable USB Debugging, and to set up the initial Holo Launcher icon layout.

I know there is a link somewhere here on xda where you can download a zip with all the original apks. Check in the Verizon S5 general section.
Found it! Look in OP Here
Note on my ROM, I seem to have forgotten to remove the security policy updates app. feel free to remove it yourself.
