I've been trying to connect to my college's wifi for the past 30 minutes and I still can't seem to get it to connect. I copied the settings straight from my Nexus 7 that is running 4.2.2. I might install a custom kernel right now and see if it alleviates this problem.
Does ist?
Nexus 5 android L factory image same issue, i tryed with every version of the preview and official image and doesn't work.
With kitkat work perfectly and custom kernel don't solve the issue
I flashed yesterday the official build and it doesn't connect to a network like the one you described. I guess they need to fix some things, this is not acceptable.
I have the same problem on Android 5 on my Nexus 9. But my Nexus 5 (upgraded from KitKat, not freshly installed) connects fine to our work WiFi (PEAP).
Really? Wow, but i cant believe that nobody had the same issue while preview.
Do you have the MASCHAPv2 Authentifiaction?

Hello guys,
I can confirm this has been happening since the "preview version" on the Nexus5, we've the same configuration (PEAP+MSCHAPv2) and we've the same issue with our wireless network with these devices.
But why doesnt google know it?

Seems to be in multiple trackers:

I posted that logcat with my friend
I've tried to configure our Wireless LAN Controller with WPA2 EAP-TLS+CCMP support and this configuration it's working well for our Nexus 5 devices. I don't know if you could configure your wireless network with this encryption support but you should consider it.
I know nothing of these wifi protocols but what I noticed is I cannot connect to networks with secondary login on a Web page.
I am freaking out... All networks at work are like that and cannot connect to any.
This started happening yesterday after flashing the 5.0 image.

Hello Steve,
That's the same issue that was affected to me until that I tried to use WPA2 Enterprise with EAP-TLS+CCMP encryption for our Nexus 5 devices with Android 5.0. Would you be so kind as tell me about your wireless access point model and manufacturer? I could try to explain how you can configure your network in order to resolve this issue or at least say if this configuration is possible with your wireless access points.
Regards

Will get all the info I can but I am working night shift so it will be hard to get info. Access points are all like 30 feet high so I cannot just take a look. What I know it's a Bell Canada network if this is any help.
One thing is sure is that the network will not be reconfigured for me to access it. I will need to adapt to the network. All was fine on 4.4.4.

I understand your situation but the PEAP-MSCHAPv2 is broken now with Android 5.0. I think that your unique option if you don't want to change nothing in your wireless access point infrastructure, is perform a downgrade to 4.4.4. This is obvious, I know.
Anyway you should consider to study change your wireless security to EAP-TLS+CCMP in order to avoid some issues inherent of MSCHAPv2 protocol related to some protocol vulnerabilities that could permit to attack your wireless network with a brute force attack.
I'm not familiar with Bell canada Network but it's possible that you have a wireless lan controller in order to centralize your wireless lan management, probably that wireless lan controller have information about your access points.
That seems to be the problem.

Yeah... I can confirm that these issues are only with FLASHING factory images. I tried that and it didn't connect to my work wifi (CISCO routers). But my friend did OTA update. Its working fine for him.
I think there is some problem with factory images. Going back to 4.4.4 for now, and will do OTA.
I tried following:
Flash 4.4.4 Factory Image.
Wipe Data and Cache.
Sideload OTA 5.0.
Wipe Data and Cache.
But I cant connect to eduroam WiFi. MASCHAPV2/PEAP.

I actually flashed the factory image. But without wiping everything aka. dirty flash. Connecting to the WiFi at work still works great.

that may be the problem. i completely wiped the system. and its not working for me. dirty flash is more like OTA right? but manual, may be that previous settings are making it to work. when completely wiped.. its not able to connect.
Remove "pmf=1" from /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf and reboot, wifi works. Root required.

Try to ensure that you are using the 2.4GHz channel for WiFi, if your router has that and 5GHz.
If you can pair with your router using the WPS button method instead of typing in the security key on your phone, I've found that was more foolproof in getting the phone properly authenticated with the router for network access.

Is this your router?
http://www.speedguide.net/routers/3com-oc-adsl-11g-3com-officeconnect-adsl-wireless-81
Also, when you connect your phone via WiFi to this router:
1. There are no network problems downloading with a web browser or the Play store
but
2. the WiFi network does not seem to work when an app wants to download data?
The Play store is also an app, so that is why I am asking for clarification of the error symptoms.
Are you running the "stock" operating system, or have you rooted+unlocked the phone to run a custom ROM?
- ooofest
This "ghost wifi" issue as I call it is happening on some devices/roms. I was on synergy r73 for quite a while and would have this issue, fully connected, no data transfer. Toggling on then off would repair it temporarily, but sometimes when trying to toggle, the toggle would just hang for about 15 seconds before shutting it off. Others have reported this too, your not alone. I am currently running Jellybomb which is based off of vrlg7, where as Synergy r73 is based on vrlg1 and I am no longer having the issue. It is possible that this is an issue with the baseband and not the rom as originally thought. You could odin to stock, take the ota and then try the whole thing over again and see if that works, or just flash a rom based on a more current baseband, not just flashing a radio. Again, I have no idea what the issue is, myself and others that were discussing it a ways back never had a clear answer to the issue, but so far what I just explained has worked for me so far.

Hey Guy,
I can not connect to our WLAN in the University. It is secured with PEAP and MASCHVAP2. Android wont connect. Does someone have this problem too? Does anybody have a Fix?
Same Problem :/
I'm experiencing the same problem here. I'm trying to connect to the company Wifi here at work and it's failing, although it is working for all of my coworkers that are not using Lollipop.
The Wifi is configured as a hidden SID with PEAP security. My phone tries to connect, then briefly shows "connecting", then after few seconds goes back to "saved". I would imagine it's going to drain my battery because it tries to connect every 10 seconds, repeating the pattern described above.
Does anybody know how to fix this?
i think i didnt had that issue today everything was ok...i will check next time
Really? Wow, but i cant believe that nobody had the same issue while preview.

My WiFi is working fine. PEAP/MSCHAPV2. Win2k8 R2 running RRAS, AD user authentication, and WPA2 Enterprise on the WAPs.
Did you Upgrade or installed a Factory Image? And How do you Installed the Factory Image?
I remember, that i have not made this step: ★Select "Wipe data/factory data reset", could this be the reason?
Same issue
I'm having the same issue. I installed via factory image
Did you Wipe/factory data reset after flashing the Image?
I'm connected fine with WPA2 enterprise using PEAP/MSCHAPv2. I flashed the factory image last night manually without wiping data (ie. I didn't flash userdata.img). Not having any wifi issues at work today. Sorry, I know that doesn't help you get yours working... but maybe collecting information about who it's working for or not working for and how they upgraded will be of some use.

I did what the flash-all.bat script does, except I didn't flash userdata.img. Although just now I wiped cache for another reason and now my wifi is having the same issue as yours. It doesn't appear limited to PEAP/MSCHAPv2, apparently... looks like wifi on Lollipop has some real problems: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=78702
I might be flashing back to 4.4.4 because I need to have wifi working properly... too much of a deal-breaker for me if it's not.
---------- Post added at 01:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:21 PM ----------
I tried forgetting the network and setting it up again from scratch and now it connects fine. Not sure what happened, but now it works... doesn't change the fact that a number of people are having wifi issues with 5.0.
Hm, can someone, who has these problem, try to flash without userdata.img?
I sideloaded the OTA on to a stock, unrooted N5 and can't connect to my company's PEAP network with no Phase 2 authentication.
Got on to my work wireless using PEAP/MSCHAPv2 fine - sometimes notice a small exclamation mark next to the WIFI icon on the status bar, doesnt really tell you what it means but the connection seems usable and ok.
Used flash-all last night
Same issue - cannot log into company wifi after flashing factory image using flash-all including userdata.img yesterday. I don't know how to check what type of network it is but in Wifi Analyzer it says it is WPA2.
It was fine in the final L preview.
My home wifi that uses WPA/WPA2 PSK works too, so is connecting to wifi hotspot from another smartphone.
Hmmm... Have you all tried rebooting your device? For me, Wi-Fi isn't working on every other boot. I did a clean install of Lollipop too. My wife's Nexus 5 seems to be doing it too...
Okay, I now have rebooted several times now and it is working each boot now... WTF... well whatever. :\

If you have a exclamation mark on your wifi it's not working. You are using your wireless data. Try switching off your wireless data while using Wi-Fi and see what happens.

I have rebooted about once or twice at work but same result. Do you think more reboots would have worked?
I was mistaken, mine isn't working at all using PEAP/MSCHAPv2 ... Tried multiple reboots but i never get an IP back
Looks like i'll have to roll back to KK 4.4 as I need my phone on the work network
Edit - now it seems to be working - what the hell lol ... this is random! Ok it's connected fine and i can access stuff, but i still have an exclamation mark on the wifi icon.
Is anyone else experiencing wifi drop outs since updating to lollipop? I can't stay connected to my wifi for more than 5 minutes without it dropping out. When i go into wifi settings it keeps saying authentication problem even though my password is saved. It will suddenly reconnect when it wants to only to drop the connection again minutes later. Ive tried going into my router settings and switching channels but that did not fix the problem. If anyone else has had this issue did u happen to find a fix for it?

Yes I too have this problem. Wi-fi can be fine for a while then it suddenly drops out and when I try to reconnect to my home router or any other it simply says authenticating then saved but never reconnects. Then randomly it connects when it wants. Tested the connection on my S4 with no problem but Nexus 7 (2013) had great wifi before the Lollipop arrived. Wish I had stayed with Kitkat. Cant find a fix anywhere so now my nexus is as good as useless to me. Very very disappointed Google member! ????
Hm do you guys also have a slower Internet connection after upgrading to lollipop? Somehow my Internet was lot faster on KitKat
I've deffo got a reduced wifi range since updating to Lollipop and it does seem to be a little slower also when data gets flowing
I'm too after lollipop upgrade I have lot of wifi and network connection lost in mobile 3g....

Isn't WiFi a kernel thing rather than radio? My N10 which is having WiFi issues on Lollipop has no radio

After Lollipop (5.0), I had problems with my wi-fi connecting with my same Netgear N600 router/system I have always used. My phone would see my router both 2.5 and 5 GHz, but I would input my password and my phone would connect for a split second, then disconnect. I was able to connect to other open networks at church, stores, etc. by just inputting the password and would connect and stay connected. The phone also remembered passwords.
This seems to have worked for me:
I have McAfee Mobile Security and turned off web security and wi-fi security temporarily.
From Settings<Wi-Fi click 3 dots upper right corner<add network and manually input the network name<changed security to whatever you are using WEP, WPA/WPA2 PSK, etc< then input password <and save.
I entered the information for my 2.5 GHz and the 5.0 GHz strated working too.
Hope that helps someone.

Try changing router dns, router wifi channel uninstall Adobe Air and anti virus.
I has having a 30 second delay getting a website to pull up or data access in all apps.
I did a bunch of things all at once so Im not sure which of the 3 fixed it.
I removed Google dns from my router.
Changed my wifi channel from auto (was on 1) to 6. Most of my neighbors were on channel 1. (interferance maybe(.
Removed AVG
Removed Adobe Air.
Yes I should only do one thing at a time but I was getting pissed.
Both my Nexus 5 and Nexus 10 had the same problem. My Nexus 5 worked perfectly fine on LTE though.
So I think it was probably the wifi channel or the dns server settings had gotten messed up somehow and changing these cleared it up.
I'm having the same problem on my Nexus 7. Wifi is slow and drops out every few minutes since I installing Lollipop. I factory reset and flashed the official 5.02 and it didn't help. Wifi was perfect on Kit Kat.
I've noticed WiFi problem in my moto g 2015.
My home WiFi is not connecting, it reacts like gone through infinite loop. My home WiFi is having WPA2 protected access.
Every else's WiFi is connecting to my phone.
Please help.
It would help if we had much more details. A link to a video would be perfect. Does this happen with any other Wi-Fi networks?

Did you manage to resolve your wifi problem?
I bought the Moto G (2015) 2GB RAM / 16GB ROM for my wife and she's having problems with the home wifi. It often says there is a "connection error" and loops to try to connect again and then fails. Her work wifi seems to function ok.
Having read about similar problems with older moto gs, people recommended (1) turning on and off airplane mode. (2) changing channel number of router.
Both sometimes work and sometimes don't. But it's not really a permanent solution. I'm a bit reluctant to do a factory reset and reinstall everything if it won't resolve the problem. The device came with the latest firmware already installed (5.1.1) and I haven't rooted or unlocked bootloader so should be a pretty clean install.
Anyway, would like to hear that factory reseting could resolve this issue or not before trying.
Thanks for any advice!
Mine does it every now and then. I just unplug my router, wait a minute, plug it back in, and then it connects.

Yes. It works for me too. But what happens if you're on a public or work wifi where you can't reset the router? It doesn't really seem like a long term solution.
Is this a standard problem with this phone? Anyone else have a similar problem or preferably a solution?

Yeah resetting other than home router is not the answer. It's an Android issue as all my phones do it from time to time. I haven't been able to figure it out. The other "fix" if you can't reset the router is try going into the Wi-Fi settings, and forget the network/name, and then add it back as new. It takes longer, but it could work for you. That's how I get around it when connecting to work when it won't auto connect.
Hi, I had also faced the same problem with a open wifi network which is free for 15 mins ..
Other than that one ..i had every router connected to my phone..
I was thinking the problem is not in your phone.. It's in router which might be old
Because old routers will have 802 a or something which are in compatible to some phones..
Or the router is not allowing your phone to get connected.. As your phone is latest and it has advanced protocols inscribed in it..
Do one thing.. Shed some light on this now :
1) router model (if known to you)
2) phone models which got connected to that router and it's operating system version (like 5.1.1)
And there is also one more point.. I found our phone might find problems connecting to 5ghz band router ..while it works fine for smaller routers like 2.4ghz
We can decide when you dig some info about the questions I mentioned...
We will get answers
Just turn off wifi and then turn it on it will fix the problem

You would think it would be that simple, but it's not. It just sits there "Connecting", then nothing, then "Connecting". Keeps cycling like that.

My router is a netgear CG3100Dv3 (using WPA2-PSK [AES] encryption) and uses 2.4 GHz. I don't think it's the router's fault though because I've had many friends connect with a variety of phones and none of them have had the problem before. I currently have a Oneplus One (android 5.0.2) and have used a Nexus 4 and Samsung Galaxy S (1) on this router without problems. Maybe it's a problem with android 5.1.1 as I guess not many of my friends have it yet. I've written to motorola support but they still havent got back to me.

Strange. I've never had a problem before with wifi. Maybe I've been lucky until now. Yep - have tried forgetting and reconnecting to wifi signal. Again, a temporary solution that will quickly become irritating when there shouldn't really be a problem for such a simple operation.

It's a temporary solution but a pain in the arse if you have to reset the router every few hours. And as I said before, what happens when you can't connect to a router which you can't reset? (i.e. public, work)
Change the router's channel, then refresh the wifi in the phone.

Firstly i agree that our Moto G has some kind of issue with some routers.. but there will be solutions for them from the ROUTERS POINT OF SIDE to make it work
i have read about your router .. Things i suggest (if you have already done them then let me know )
1) your router has option to change MODE to get speeds more than 150mbps.. try changing that 802.11 MODE , restart your Phone and Router and also keep CHANNEL to AUTO , try changing the security WPA to others also..
2) your Wifi of your phone will have a MAC address , copy that and paste in your Router to allow this device..
i am still finding info on your problem..
the reason why i think your Router can solve the problem is : i had once read about 802.11 b/g/n/ac types.. i am getting a doubt that they are the ones causing the problem.. if you are aware of it
have a look at this bro once : http://www.smartmobilephonesolutions.com/content/cant-connect-to-wifi-on-android-smartphone
in this he said that Wifi fix apps can solve the easy problems..:highfive: , hope you find solution

Hmm. That doesn't sound promising. Will they sort it out with the next firmware update? Are motorola even aware there is this problem?

Ok. Will change channel to auto mode. It was already on "up to 300 Mbps". Will also put MAC addresss in the router.
However this still relies on having access to the router. What happens when you don't have access. If this is going to happen on many routers then I prefer to return the phone and buy one which never has this problem.

I'll give a wifi fix app a go to. But they just seem to automatically delete known wifi SSIDs and passwords.
Another option would be to root and install new ROM and radio, but would prefer not to.
It seems like a lot of Nexus 5 users on 5.1.1 are having wifi problems too:

Anyway, thanks for you advice!
Just a quick update if there is anyone else reading this thread with a similar problem.
I changed the channel mode to auto and that has seemed to fix the problem. The moto g seems to connect without problems now. I didn't enter the MAC address nor used a "wifi fix" app so far.
Fingers crossed...
I have the same problem. Wifi just stops working and had a ! Symbol beside the wifi icon. I have probably had a 100 phones and devices connected to this router without a problem. I have changed a bunch of settings the router and it didn't help.
Disabling wifi off then on works, but that is no solution. I will try anther Rom or kernel. I am on resurrection 5.1.1

My problem was slightly different in that the phone wouldn't even connect to the wifi signal. It would cycle continuously between "connecting" and "authentication error".
Does it work with other routers?

Thanks for your help! I'm still a little wary that the phone will have problems in the future on other routers, but it's a good enough fix for now. Hopefully a later firmware update will sort it out.
Unfortunately, my wife took the moto g on a business trip last week and could not connect to any wifi signals (her colleagues did not have a problem).
Not sure what to do now. I'm in contact with motorola support but they don't have any suggestions yet (apart from blaming the router - which has never had a problem with any other devices!)

Well I just emailed Amazon and they're sending a replacement. Hopefully this will solve the problem
So since I got the Marshmallow update on my Moto G (XT1540) I am unable to connect to the WiFi at work, I have the correct SSID and password and it worked fine on Lollipop, but keep getting "Authentication error" now that I have Marshmallow. I have tried doing a Forget Network and rejoining it and doing a Network Reset in the Backup and Reset settings menu.
Our internal help desk and myself are puzzled by it isn't working... We have a fairly current Ruckus WiFi deployment, using WPA2 and EAS encryption. This WiFi SSID is specifically intended for employee's mobile devices, and no one else has reported any issues, but to our IT staff's knowledge mine is the first Marshmallow device attempting to access the WiFi.
Any thoughts, or any way to track down what the real cause is? Would a logcat show me anything?
BUMP
Anyone else having issues with WiFi since Marshmallow? I only have this issue at this one site, always the same Authentication Error and I know it is not the password (on my company issued iPhone I have deleted and added the WiFi network several times, so the password is correct). Our help desk is stumped. I am assuming this is related to encryption type (TKIP/AES) from the error. This worked fine on Lollipop...

Were you able to resolve? I had no wifi issue until today. I am in the process of changing routers and just installed a Linksys 1900ACS. When connecting my phone to wifi, it gets stuck on "Obtaining IP address". However, when I try to connect to the guest network, there are no issues.
Update: I wanted to keep WEP to avoid changing the settings in all my wifi cameras. But when I changed to WPA2 Personal, all worked. Don't know why WEP did not work as it did with my previous router.

No, we were not able to find a solution other than I connected to the guest network, which oddly is on the same APs, using the same encryption, just a different SSID and passphrase, which works fine. Can't explain it or find a solution, sorry.
