[dev] doubleshot de-odexed system images (dev base)

Return to Contents Page - doubleshot Developers Reference
THESE ARE NOT ROMs. ...and this thread is not aimed at users.
These are the base of what could be a ROM some day if someone wants to make them into such.
Provided as-is with no promise of support or usability ( but you know we're here for that if you need it, and they worked fine on my device )
HTC Software Versions: (March 2012)
1.28.531.9 - Retail Launch
1.55.531.3 - OTA
1.63.531.2 - OTA
--------
Okay, yesterday I tore open the 1.63.531.2 software package and started seeing what I could see.
While I was playing with it I made another round of insecure boot images ( find here )
...one thing led to another and then here I sat with 3 de-odexed system images and corresponding insecure boot.img files I had made, and a sunrise that was surprising because I hadn't realized it had set yet from the day before...
Anyways, I had fun with this project and hopefully having these here will encourage people to start tinkering with their own ROM creations.
These base system.img files are the same system.img files generated when you make a clockworkmod backup - so no goofy headers or signed stuff to worry about, just the image file.
You can unyaffs it like normal to get at the contents of the image.
If you are on windows, avabox is a fantastic set of tools with a full yaffs setup in it, as well as the easiest smali/backsmali process i've found. Top notch tool and one I use frequently when on windows.
I actually did the de-odexing itself with xUltimate - it went ahead and did it all in one automatic batch process for each software version when I got to that part, instead of me manually doing it with avabox or other backsmali tools. (Nice!!)
Even so, it still took most of the night to set up and then process each software version and de-odex it, so i'm providing them here for people to just grab and start working on.
So, to answer that question of "where do I start?" for getting into developing, here is a pretty good place:

The new OTA software version that started on the 19th and was paused (again...) on the 20th of march is the 1.63.531.2 software version, our newest.

Mirrors welcome, just please make sure to include a link in this thread if you do ( I will copy it to first posting for others reference) and just make sure to link to the thread and not the mirrors direct elsewhere please?
Good places to go next from here would be:
- Edify Script Tutorial - Replacing the Google Market
- Edify Scripting Notes
- Flashable zip template
- doubleshot Developers Reference
...and start to learn how to set up the stuff you make so you can deploy it to a device.
Happy devving!

[Q] [Generic Device] Howto upgrade OS inside the img file

Recently i was given an android device by a friend.. once i got to looking around at it, it appears to be some generic device from china.
After searching for days, i found the maker as fugetek. I emailed them asking for a release date on OS upgrade (from 4.1.1 -> kitkat) and was informed that " Updates are needed, and won't be made. "
Emailed them again asking for the source / project files they used to build the android OS for this device so i could update it myself...
Here is what they sent me:
(image attached)
As you can see.. these are hardly project files / source files, but rather a flashing tool, a set of " how to " doc's for flashing the device, and a compiled *.img
My Question:
1) Is it possible to extract / mount the img file, and manually upgrade the OS to kitkat witout losing any hardware functionality
2) If it is indeed possible to upgrade the android OS version using the img file as src, does anyone know of a step-by-step guide / tutorial on how this is done.
[EDIT] UPDATE: Seems the PheonixUSBPro flashing utility links to an " Alwinner " PDF when you click help..
I am assuming this is pretty much the same image being passed around by the chinese for their generic 7" Android Devices
From what i'm reading.. this is going to a fun, and somewhat convoluted project
Device Details:
Manufacturer: Fugitek Technologies / Lonestar Group:
Model: OCOCCI_MID

Build Number:

Any help would be most appreciated
If anyone requires the " source " zip they sent me, let me know, and i'll upload it somewhere for you.

[Q] Need Help Rooting Cello 7" Tablet

Hi guys, im not a noob when it comes to rooting but this new tablet is giving me a headache and i dont know what to do now.
So far, I have tried many one click apps, even ones for the pc... Even chinese ones and nothing has managed to root it.

Any advice on how to obtain root would be fantastic.
Update
Right, I read on another forum about Chinese phones and tablets with a certain type of chipset can have the firmware / rom copied directly from the device in the form of a scatter file which you then use to create the image on your pc.
I already tried the tools but unfortunately, the software is not compatible with my tablets hardware.
I have now sent an email to the manufacturer explaining that my tablet is stuck in a bootloop and even the reset pin and recovery modes won't work and have requested a copy of the original firmware to flash to my device.
If I am successful in obtaining a copy of the firmware / rom, is there a guide explaining how to modify it in order to root it and how to make a recovery compatible with my device.
At the moment, this is all relying on me getting the firmware / rom from the manufacturer but, if I am successful, I will share my modded + rooted rom with the rest of xda.
While I am waiting for a response from the manufacturer, does anyone know if it is possible to "rip" the current rom / bootloader / etc from the tablet, just in case they don't send me the files I requested?
Any news on this at all? I have an 8inch cello win 8 tablet that won't start up so any future info on cello tablets would be handy.
Any news?

OVERVIEW:
This thread is not intended as a guide or tutorial for installing stock firmware on the BLU Grand X3+. Rather, this is intended as a resource for device owners and developers for downloading stock firmware. After a great deal of searching for this firmware online, I discovered that many sites charge a membership or usage fee for downloading the firmware and, on other sites, Furthermore, anybody that charges a fee for firmware packages -- that are otherwise free of charge on.other repos -- is nothing but a crook. On many of these sites I also found broken and inoperable download links. I was able to dig online and I located one complete firmware package for the BLU Grand X3+. I have uploaded the package to my own cloud storage and I've linked it below to share with others who need it. I am also including links to the latest SPD Upgrade Tool and the Spreadtrum NPI USB Drivers.

I open KernelSU after installation, but it shows
Unsupported
KernelSU now only supports GKI kernels
Core: 4.14.193
Admin version: v0.5.7(10866) Fingerprint:5G/T93115G:11/RP1A.201005.001/1669974822: user/release-keys SELinux state: Mandatory
Because the display is Unsupported, according to the above, you need to compile the kernel yourself.
I checked the unofficially supported devices and saw a similar version number, but there is only one digit difference.

android_kernel_samsung_exynos9610_mint
Kernel 4.14.194 exynos9610 non-GKI device, added KernelSu using manual method
Would it be more appropriate to use this?
Why waste your time trying to flash pre-compiled KernelSU what isn't suitable to your phone?
Try MagiskSU .
If it's not your goal that applications get provided root access but you - the user - to act like an Administrator in Windows OS then it's enough to add SU ( read: SwitchUser ) binary to Android, IMO.

In fact, I have installed the magisk, just on the installation, I don’t know how to proceed, I need to select and repair the file, but this phone does not have a file for flashing the phone like a big brand, I also tried to go to the file in the phone I searched for boot-related files and tried to patch and install them, but they couldn’t be installed. I tried to install the magisk in a virtual machine, but even if it was installed, I still need to patch the files to get full permissions.
