[Q] N5 camera addons? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I read in a post on here that the camera on our device is magnetic and can have attachments. Can anyone link me to where I can find these? I haven't been able to find them. And are they worth it?

The lens is magnetic. But not intended for the magnetic add on lenses. I have the photojojo lenses and the magnetic attraction to the N5 camera is very weak at best. Although, they fit perfectly, but they also affect the cameras ability to focus dramatically. If you use the metal rings included they stick on very strong, but then the adhesive on the metal rings doesn't stick well to the glass over the Camera sensor.
EDIT: Should add that when you use the metal rings included, the phone is able to focus almost as good as it normally would.

A zoom lens for the Nexus 4?

So I've decided I'll be buying myself a Nexus 4 for Christmas, and I was thinking of what accessories to get for it. I've always liked the idea of a zoom lens add on, as I've had many times where I wanted to take a picture, but the object/scene in question was just too far away, or would look better zoomed in, and digital zoom just isn't good enough. I've been looking at zoom lenses, and so far all the good ones seem to be only for the iPhone- could anyone point me in the direction of a good zoom lens that could/should be Nexus 4 compatible?
The iPhone had zoom lens I remember, I hope there's some for the Nexus 4.
Would be great.
Can't you just use the iPhone zoom lens on the Nexus 4?

I don't think so, as most of the iPhone lenses were made to fit the iPhone camera+flash and frame specifically. (I kind of hope I'm wrong on that, finding a lens would be so much easier if I can just use an iPhone one!)
Here is one I am looking at right now
http://photojojo.com/store/awesomeness/cell-phone-lenses/
The zoom lens is only 2x, whereas a lot of the iPhone ones are 8X, which is what I'd like. I really like the macro lens that site sells though, I will probably get that.
Save the money and just get does Magnetic ring ones that stick on any phone.

n4 is corning glass front and back
If anyone wants i can sell you guys my 3 Photojojo Lens for $40 shipped (Macro, Fisheye, and telephoto lens)
i've only used it a couple times, its been sitting on my desk for couple month collecting dust.
Last time I was at the shooting range a guy attached a telescopic lens on his iPhone and he was able to see his target great at 25 yards. It was clan enough you could see bullet holes without having to use the green splatter targets. I asked him what the power was but he didn't know, but he said it was only $25 on amazon. I want one of those. You could see the target better with that then I could with my $50 dollar binoculars. The scope attached to the back with a case and had a mini tripod with screw mount. Almost decided to buy an iPhone because of the accessories. I just couldn't bring my self to sellout my own ideals.

I'm thinking the Photojojo lenses are the best bet for us. I had an idea though. So while I've mostly seen lenses for the iPhone, I've seen some for other phones too, like the Galaxy S2 and HD2. What if there's a phone with similar/almost the same camera size and placement, so that you could just buy a lense made for that phone and use it? Provided there is a lense for said similar phone, but it's worth a search.
This seems to be a 'generic' clip on one for 5x zoom

D3O Flip case?

Anybody know what the case shown in this video here is, or where to get it?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq3lqqwdUko
At 0.06 when he opens it up you can see 'D3O' on the inside of the cover.
That is a nice case.

That looks amazing! I always missed my blackberry for auto turning on/off when you put it in/out of the holster. I thought that was some sort of patented hardware feature because nothing other than the ipad smart cover does anything similar. Want this case badly! Anyone know where to buy?
Nexus 7 has magnetic sleep/wake, but I have run magnets all over the Nexus 4 and have not found a spot where it sleeps so I don't know how this is working in this video.
Perhaps they are using an app that is using the proximity sensor?
Possible leak of a Tech21 Impact Snap w/ Cover? Seems like it to me. Check out videos for the SGS3 and iphone 5, very similar.
If a D30 case comes out for the N4, I will most likely snag one. That seems like a pretty nifty case. It seems that he may be using an app that uses the phone's proximity sensor to turn the phone on and off when it's covered. I used to use that app when I had the N1 and HD2. It works like a charm, but uses a lot of battery.
That's a nice case. Been looking for a clean looking flip case myself.
I'm very interested in this. It's the only kind of case that intrigues me at all.
I'm guessing it's the d3o case for the gs3. It fits, but the button placement is a touch off, and you have 2 extra holes on the back.

Underwater case for nexus 4

Hi there. I'm looking for underwater case for my nexus 4. I want to shooting fishes when will swiming with the skuba mask and the snorkel.

I would just buy an underwater camera? The pressure itself would break things in your Nexus.

your best bet if you want your phone with you is to buy a waterproof pouch like this one. Its not going to be very useful though since it will blur the camera, kill your touchscreen sensitivity and speakers. i guess it's still good to have your phone close to you for an emergency.
Thank you. what you mean when blur camera? Poor image quality when phone in this case?

yes the pouch is not fully transparent, its going to make your shots blurry. There are some cases for the iphone that are waterproof and with clear plastic so you can take pics but there's nothing like that for the N4. If you want to use it for pictures just get a waterproof camera, they are relatively cheap now and will take much better pics underwater than any phone with waterproof case.
edit : the only thing you can get that is made to fit the nexus 4 is this case(more of a plastic bag). It's a plastic bag with a hole in the back that you put your phone through and then stick a piece of plastic tape over it. Its not reusable and i wouldnt trust it to have it submerge in water.
Yeah I would recommend just getting an underwater camera, even a cheap disposable one over trying to use your phone.
The heavy duty plastic pouches work, but the touchscreen is not going to register very good through the plastic screen, especially with all the water around it interfering with the capacitive sensors, and the pouch itself will cause distortions and reflections on the captured pictures. So even if it did work the images would probably not be very clear.
Now I would recommend one of these pouches just to protect your phone from the sand/salt water. They would be fine to protect your phone while snorkeling and the pressures seen at that minimal depth would not harm the phone at all. Now if you tried to go scuba diving with just a pouch then you will most likely be buying a new phone. At those pressures water will find a way in and in extreme cases the pressure could cause some physical damage.
From personal experience a ziplock bag does NOT work very well even to just protect from getting splashed. They just are not durable enough to stand up to being in your pocket all day and staying closed/sealed.
Topic reminds me of one of the company's at CES this year, HZO protection or whatever. Hopefully the technology becomes standard for phones in the future.

You would love have more luck with the Sony xperia Z or the water proof Motorola.

Even with that protective coating Motorola advertises I would be concerned about salt water. That stuff is very corrosive and once the salt starts to crystallize I would worry that the coating could be compromised. Basically electronics and water, especially salt water, do not mix. I would think that if this coating was effective dive computers and lights would be using this instead of the heavy rubber gaskets and silicon grease that always seem to fail.
Motorola even just calls this "Splash protection"
invisible nano-coating splash protection inside and out

I ordered this for my S2 and the N4 fits in too.

here is what i found http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KRUSELL-S..._PDA_Taschen_Schutzhüllen&hash=item2c6b03b01e
Ok, i have purcrased the Salabox 3xl and the ipega.
the salabox fit well but there is some issue to push the power button. I use ipega with iphone 4 4s and 5. I made with it different videos. Search for "pinna marchera" on youtube. The s3 version fit very very very well on nexus 4 but i can't push the power button to out of the standby. Does somebody have any ideas? sorry for my english, i'm an italian boy.

Rear camera lens cracked...

Can anyone supply a "good" source for a rear camera lens. Everything I find seems a little shady, no warm fuzzy feelings. I would rather pay a little more, than cheap out on junk.
SCH-i535
Thanx.
That thing on the rear is just a cheap plastic cover, the lens is integrated into the camera its self.
I realize this...I just want to make sure I get cheap...not super cheap...I've seen complaints about fog and auto focus problems. I trust people here more than eBay or amazon comments.

Lg quick cover vs camera lens

I really enjoy my quick cover from LG, but what I can not understand at all is how it works when I open the cover and have it against the back of the phone:
1) fingerprint sensor is accessible enough but not fully.
2) camera lens is blocked, which is irritating in two situations. When I take a picture I need to hold the quick cover with one hand away from the lens. Also, in the car I have a holder for my phone which folds the cover to the back so I cannot use my phone as a dashcam.
Two things which could have been better designed in my opinion.
Anybody with same experiences, or even better a work around??

I bought it also and verry disappointed.
I sent a mail to LG if the guy was drunk when he designed it. They know it's not well designed but they will not change it. So i bought another case. Case closed
