I am on Rogers and I upgraded from stock Gingerbread to OFFICIAL AT&T ICS. Because Rogers never released ICS, only AT&T did.
Everything works except... wifi hotspot. I use this all the time with my laptop.
It worked fine on Canada Rogers Gingerbread.
Why the hell does it not work with AT&T?
Are Americans banned from using this feature? How can I enable it?

With AT&T you have to pay extra for tethering, i had a galaxy sII for AT&T and didn't have that option.
If it is really important to you, look into rooting and installing a custom rom on your phone.

Hi guys I need help or info about this Ive always wanted Motorola Xoom wifi only but I received Verizon one with 3g not upgraded to lte . I rooted it and installed ics for the wifi only system from Google or android website its stock ..
And works actually very well no 3g ..nothing about service I don't mind since I'm not with Verizon and not planning to go with them I just need wifi but my question is ...is it right I mean everything works good only the battery It seems like honeycomb stock verizon build battery stays longer is it because of wifi only ice version ..or something I'm not sure if somebody can help me with info
Hmmm ... me too. I have a Xoom tablet arriving this week, and it was listed as "MZ600 Xoom, LTE ready, Verizon". Which rom version should I install? I do not plan to activate it with Verizon, as I already have a dinc running CM7 nightly build 258, and waiting for ics. I would just like to run ics on the Xoom. If I don't activate the Xoom, which rom should I use, or CAN I use??
If both of you are not planning to activate with Verizon, using a Wifi only ICS ROM won't be a bad idea. I too have installed this to a friend of mine and he hasn't experienced any issues. You will not be missing out of any features because the only main difference is the 3g / LTE radio.
So anyone has seen the stock ICS for the xoom 3G version?
AFAIK wifi only is the only model to get an official update. Running the wingray build on cdma or lte is just fine.
Was wondering if we can put Rogers ROM on AT&T for 2 reasons.
Turn off LTE and tethering.
Can anyone with Rogers confirm they have tethering ability. Also do you have to pay extra for tethering with Rogers.
I bet AT&T will block those.

Confirmed! We have tethering enabled(free) as well as the option to turn off LTE.
As for loading the Rogers rom onto the AT&T handset, I don't see why not other than maybe some differences in what 3G/4G LTE Bands are made available. Rogers and AT&T are very close in offerings though. Don't know if there's any relation nowadays, but they used to be partners a good 10 years ago here in Canada. I think Rogers bought them out of their wireless venture. Fun fact of the day. Minus the fun
Anyone has an unlocked rogers htc one xl phone that also has an att sim card can do a test if att sim card will get lte speed with rogers rom?
The Radio firmware is a separate image from the system rom. Once we have a Rogers RUU, you should be able to flash the boot.img and system.img from that without worrying about altering the way your radio connects to the AT&T network.
So what would be a better choice? Att handset with rogers rom or rogers handset stock rom. I just want to be able to tether sometimes without att giving me trouble and turn att off. Since i will be getting out of contract... Price for the handset should be the same.
The only difference between the AT&T model and Rogers model is the ROM, so it really wouldn't make a difference. Go with whichever option is easier for you.
(I accidentally thanked your post. Enjoy it lol)
Just a quick question for you HOX Rogers owners out there, does the rogers version include any Rogers bloatware? or splash screens?

The rogers spash screen is there when turning on the phone as well. It's part of the boot animation.

Oh hey, you're right. I never noticed.
It only appears for about a second or two before the "Quietly Brilliant" screen.
ummm it doesnt matter which ROM your on... ur still going to get charged for tethering. ATT looks and sees whats connected to their netwok (ie a PC) and will see you're tethering. As far as 3g/4g toggles, wait like 2 weeks for some custom ROMS.
Can AT&T peek into a custom ROM like say CM9?

The thing about the bloatware is it can be disabled in settings-apps under "all" tab which is nice if you don't want them loading and updating all of the time, but they still take up space.
For those that don't know, I didn't when I first found this out, you have to first uninstall any updates an app may have before the option to disable it shows up.

Is this true? I'm thinking about buying an unlocked Rogers HOX to tether, but I don't want to do it if they are just going to charge me the tethering fee.
Anyone using a Rogers on AT&T?

If you don't go crazy with tethering then they won't bang you for it. Yes, I briefly used the rogers rom and it unlocked tethering as well as gave the option to turn off lte, however I have gone back to the updated att rom 1.82 and hacked the stock tethering app to work just fine. This rom is ultra smooth compared to the Asian or Rogers rom.

I believe that's where I found it. Beware, you can't go back to a past build after updating to the latest att leaked rom. That doesn't bother me because it's so much smoother for me, but just giving you a heads up. Search for sqlite editor...that's what I used to edit the proper files for att hot spot to work. I'll look for the thread and post if I find it.

Hi, I have a question about my Samsung captivate that is unlocked and running CM9. I have a phone plan with tmobile, and was wondering if I could get the wifi calling feature that is on the vibrant on my captivate. I am comfortable with flashing custom roms and the like, so if I have to make some changes, that is fine.
In short, my question is “Can I get the wifi calling app that is available on the tmobile vibrant on my unlocked captivate running CM9”.
Thanks, Ben Finch
I'm going to assume you have an up to date SIM from T-Mobile. Some older cards that came out just about the time the vibrant did were incompatible with Wi-Fi calling, and required people to get new ones. So, if it doesn't work, that's a possibility.
I work in a phone store, got to see that action first hand.
As for Wi-Fi calling, you shouldn't have to hack unless you're running a stock Rom on the captivate that has unknown source installations (side loading) blocked by default. If that's the case, browse the stickies.
Wi-Fi calling, last I checked, was simply a regular apk. Check out the vibrant and galaxy s 4g forums, I'm sure it's posted there somewhere. I'm out of town and using my phone, otherwise I'd be able to extract it from my wife's g2 and post it. PM me if you don't find it there, I think I can get it from my desktop eventually.

Hi Ben,
I'm having the same exact issue. Did you ever find a solution? If so, please advise. Both Samsung and T-Mobile reps say it's not possible to have Wi-Fi calling with Captivate. Seems there should be a way.
Just wondering if it was possible to get a JB compatible version of the T-Mobile Wfi Calling app now that there is a leak for the SGS III that has a working version? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1883169
Sorry if this has already been asked elsewhere, i'm just anxious to try JB, but I have to have wifi calling. Unfortunately I don't know enough to do the work myself to get it working.
Thanks,

I don't believe wifi calling will work, I looked at the device tree for pyramid on jellybean branch and right now wifi calling is removed
It'll be easier to use the sensation wifi calling from a jellybean sense in the near future
Whenever t-mobile decides to that is
Recently I bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket from AT&T, along with a Net10 SIM card. Everything works, but the data is unreliable. At home (10 miles from Harrisburg, PA), I have a five bar signal, but the internet works on and off. Even when I have the 4G icon on my phone, the internet does not always load. I have (best) coverage in my area, too. I have searched forums, and contacted customer support, and did not find any useful help. I have tried several APN configurations, and my modem ICS is the latest as far as I know (UCLI3), unless if I have a leaked version. Should I downgrade my ICS, upgrade to the leaked ICS, or root my phone? Is there anything I can do?

I have a Samung Galaxy Proclaim from Net10 that gets up to 3 Mbps on 3G in my area, which is enough for me. It's pretty annoying when I look at my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, and it's not loading or lagging at 200kbps.
UCLF6
I downgraded to the uclf6 modem, which sped up the data connection by a little, but not much. I'll try downgrading even more.
I have tried the two new leaks for the ICS modem, which were UCLK4 and UCLL3. Both modem versions were unstable. What I will stick to is the Telus SGH-T989D modem update, which had proven to be the most stable and beneficent results. Thank you for all of your help!
