T-Mobile Visual Voicemail APK - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For some reason the Google Play Store is saying my Nexus 5 is not compatible to download the app from the app store. Pretty annoying. Would someone mind sharing the APK for it? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Wouldn't do you any good. T-Mobile hasn't upgraded the app to work with 4.4 yet. Should be fairly soon though
edit: As o_z0ne points out below looks like it just might work . I should have known when the tech support tmo guy told me it's not updated yet to work with kitkat ugh....
thanks o_z0ne!

Working fine for me.

Yeah, it worked just fine when I was on the stock ROM. However, since switching to the Cataclysm ROM the Play Store won't let me download it for some reason.

Right. Like I said, it worked just fine on stock. It wasn't until I switched to Cataclysm that Google Play wouldn't let me download the app.

Have you guys been getting texts from 122 saying Activate:dt=6 ? Searches tell me that it's related to visual voicemail.

Yes! Almost once a day
I googled it a couple of days ago and realized that it pointed to visual voicemail as well..

Thanks for the apk, it works great after the text code trick.
Thanks for the apk zip! Google took the apk off the playstore. I actually sent the text "Activate:dt=6" to 122 before i even loaded the apk.

When I first booted my N5 when I got it, it downloaded T-Mo VVM with no issues. Worked fine. I reset my phone, still on stock, but when all; my apps reinstalled automatically, VVM was not there. When I went to the Play Store, it now says my phone is not compatible. Very strange.

This appears to be an attempt to activate VMM on the line, per TMO support fora (this one was for a Windows phone):
"
I found another thread where a user tried texting a short code that eventually got VV to work on his Windows Phone. Let me know if this process works for you
1. Text "Activate:dt=6" to 122 (omit the quotation marks)
2. Call yourself from your mobile phone (enter the vm system), enter your password, and then hang up after hearing you have a saved message. When you hang up, you should have visual voicemail working on your phone."

Thanks

I keep getting a message saying that the server isn't responding. When I tried calling myself, I just got a busy signal but when I long-pressed 1, it took me to regular voicemail....anyone else run into this or have any suggestions?
EDIT: I've been through the wringer trying to get VVM set up; long story short, T-Mobile says that VVM is available on prepaid phones, but not the Nexus 5, and customer service even gave me the link to a document stating that. It's amazing how some people have gotten VVM/Google Voice to work on their T-Mo prepaid N5's, and some haven't. I'm one of the unlucky ones, I suppose.

According to T-Mobile, they're working on support for the N5. They supported the N4, so I don't see any reason why the N5 won't be supported eventually.

yeah but are you getting voicemails? care to share your apk at all?
Here's the apk I used. You also need your data from a working vvm backup.

I have the Nexus S 4g. Since vvm is not installed, I had Google Voice take over my voicemail. Now, when I install this apk, it won't provision. Not surprising I guess since Sprint now thinks that Google has my number. How do I reverse this? I don't see any way in GV to undo my number from it.

There is no way to do it from the app, go to google.com/voice log in and you can disable there. I did not like Google voice prefer sprint but can't get it to work. From what I have seen only way to get sprint vvm to work on this phone is if u previously had a titanium backup from another phone like someone above mentioned.

You know what I did, I used unyaffs to get into a clockwork recovery backup made on my previous phone(an epic) and did some digging. The fie you will need is in data/data called 'com.coremobility.app.vnotes'. I deleted the one that installing the app created and put in the one I dug out of my backup and it seems to be working fine. I have received two voicemails with it. Hope this is helpful
Edit: ignore the above, there is more to it apparently...not working as it should

Major bummer. I am just about ready to turn this phone in because of this VM issue. Tried GV as my primary but it drove me crazy, especially since it took over sms as well.
I may have a titanium back up on my old Evo SD card. Where does one find the data file?
yeah, that doesnt seem to work, i pulled old data files and added to new vm apk but it actually sends voicemail alert to old phone, so there has to an esn # included somewhere that i cant find....
but yeah the app is there just not functioning
Why the hell wasn't there visual voicemail in the first place?!?!?!

Im running youmail and its real close to original VVM from sprint it just has to send you a txt to notify you of a new voicemail or you can config to check for new mails at intervals

I just bought this model number today. Is this firmware just for people that bricked their phones? I rooted mine today without issue and hope that there will be all the other goodies available like on my samsung phone. The guy at Sprint told me that there were already custom roms and recovery, but I found out he was wrong.
Can't find it anywhere on that link. I wouldn't mind having a stock unrooted restore in hand. This is all that's preventing me from rooting.

MagicJack also works for free phone call's. They give you a random Florida or Wisconsin number when you make a call, and no one can call you back, but for free it's nice. I think if you have a MagicJack hardware device you can use that number with the APP and have in/out calls free over wifi. It works very well with my Verizon Galaxy Nexus (unlimited data plan) on wifi tether

Same for me. I get that exact error when trying to set it up. I'd love to use Google Voice but I'm on the prepaid plan.
I called into T-Mobile and used the web chat and neither were able to do anything on their end. They both confirmed I have VVM on my account but it just doesn't seem to work.
I kind of assumed it was an issue with the app and 4.4, but if someone else has it working I'm not sure...
I downloaded it and it seems to be working. I received a voicemail today and the visual VM notification was on the top statusbar
Set up mine today. Initially I had the same error, tried again a few minutes later and worked fine.

I was able to get mine working late last night. I ended up putting the SIM in my wife's Nexus 4 to verify that it worked. When I switched back to the N5 it connected and worked after that.
I'm not sure if activating it on the N4 had anything to do with it or not, but it absolutely wouldn't activate on the N5 before that.

I seen the message as well and remembered I did this a long time ago to my sisters Lumia to activate visual voicemail. Now it is working for me, after seeing the message I guess the application slowly activated it for us.
Most T-Mobile apps are tied to phones not accounts. So the easiest way is provide T-Mobile the IMEI.

Sprint MMS Issues?

Hi. Just wondering if anyone has had any MMS Issues since buying this phone. I've had several people ask me if I ever got the pictures they sent, and I just never got them. This happened on both stock and custom roms. Weird thing is, this morning I had my wife send me a test MMS and it worked. But later in the day, I didn't receive one again.
Thoughts?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I'll be tentatively getting my N5 on Monday (knock on wood), so if everything goes according to plan I'll test MMS right away and let you know.
I get them but I'm not always notified that a new message exists. Seems to be group MMS messages I'm not receiving notifications for. This is probably more of a Hangouts issue than a Sprint issue tho.
The problem is more unicorns exist in the world than sprint cell towers

I'm on sprint and up until like 3 hours ago, my MMS was working great... But now for some reason, I can't send any but can still receive them no problem. It's pretty irritating. I haven't changed anything yet they just stopped working. Using textra (and have been since I got the phone two weeks ago)

Cleveland, OH FWIW...
If you're using Hangout, try 8SMS. It's a free app, a KitKat modified version of the CM messaging app. One cool feature (which Sprint supports) is that'll send MMS via Wi-Fi. They also have a thread in Android Apps here in XDA.

That's standard for VVM. Always has been. Kind of like a security feature.. Weak attempt to insure that the person using VVM is actually the owner of the account.
Anyone have the most recent update?
Bumping this to ask y'all for a small favor- I found the posted version of the AT&T VVM apk (v2.4.2.62) and installed it- works just fine, once I had them provision my N5 for VVM. Was wondering if anyone had been able to update to the most recent version (v2.5.2.10), and if so, would you mind posting the apk (or otherwise give me some ideas about how to get it from the Play Store)? I'm damned if I can get it- have tried everything (including market helper, market enabler etc) and keep getting the "not compatible" message. I'd like to snag the latest version without having to resort to editing build.prop or to some other relatively drastic measure...
Any assistance would (as usual) be much appreciated- many thanks!

Use YouMail, it is a good replacement for carrier vvm

Not sure if this is just me, but I have narrowed down the at&t visual voicemail app as the one giving me issues. i was installing it from a titanium backup - both tried with data and without. well, the issue i had was that google now would go nuts constantly refreshing. not sure why vvm would have anything to do with now, but after not installing it on a new rom (and this is the 5th that i have flashed, so not just a rom issue) no issues with now.
Using google voice now.
ATT Visual Voicemail 2.5.2.10 apk
For those that want it, here is the APK for AT&T's Visual Voicemail version 2.5.2.10. I uploaded and installed it using AirDroid. It is working as desired on my Nexus 5.

No Notifications
Does anyone have a problem getting notifications from the att vvm app? I have it installed and it works when I open it and hit refresh but the only notification I get is the built in vm that you have to call in to.
