Can't install apps while in ART runtime - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently switched from Dalvik to ART, on Stock and Rooted (I can't get ART to work when I'm on a custom rom) and currently am unable to install apps from the play store... it just says "installing" infinitely.
Anyone else have this issue?

Same thing happened to me when I switched to ART, I even tried a third party app install, didn't work... I think its because some apps don't work with ART at the moment(whatsapp, pandora, etc.) I had to switch back to dalvik, and even then i couldn't install properly. I ended up restoring from a previous backup i made. What apps are you trying to install?

Couldn't even initialize the download for a file manager... probably means I can't install my .apks either. Went back to dalvik, I'll wait it out for ART to become more widespread

Market Issue

After having issues with my Gallery and other things, I have flashed up to TNT 4.2 and did the supplicant and the market fix. I can see most apps in the market and I can install from the market, but when I go to MY APPS the only ones showing are my purchased apps. I manually restored apps from Titanium one by one, as I was not sure what I was doing. All apps are working but don't show under My Apps in the marketplace.
They do show in Settings under Downloaded applications. Any idea how to fix this? I have redone the market fix, numerous times.
Did you wipe your data/cache before or after you installed the supplement? I had the same problem because I didn't. So I did that and then did the market fix and it worked perfectly.
If that doesn't work try side loading a older version of the market and replace the current one. For a while I used the market apk that was on my moto droid, because i was having some problems with the one that comes with the rom.

Keep in mind that it seems that each one fixes the market, but hides apps that you could see previously. I have tried all three and have seen different apps that other wouldn't show.

Download one free app, from the Market. Then check "My Apps" again. This seems to be a requirement for all the sideloaded apps to show up.

I wiped data and cache before installing the ROM but did not wipe data and cache before the supplement. Should I just go to recovery and wipe data/cache now and then retry the market fix?. Will I lose anything by wiping data and cache? I am not sure what that does.

It wouldn't hurt to try. So I say go for it.
Robeet,
I d/l a free app and and that app along with my paid apps show but none of other free apps.
AJkid93, will I lose anything when I wipe data and cache?
Yes you will, but if you don't want to lose everything you can dl titanium backup and backup everything. You can also do a nandroid backup just in case wiping the data/cache doesn't help. This way you can just revert back to the way it is before you wipe all of the data.

Playstore keeps crashing on CM9 OS

I noticed that playstore keeps crashing everytime i try to install an app.
i installed the last rc1 build and it worked fine initially, but since yesterday night, since i installed the last maps, currents, street view etc...
But since this morning i tried to install facebook, and now play store just keeps crashing
Anyone else with the same problem?
i deleted cache and delvik, deletede play store cache. uninstalled updates, tried to install the new jelly bean version but it didn't help.
Any ideas?
tried reflashing the rom over it, deleting delvik and cache, and reinstalling gapps package, no success here.
Try clearing the app data for playstore.

Yes, i forgot to mention it, but it is the first thing that i did...
i removed phonesky.apk from /system/app, installed new apk, didn't help, from the second play store tries to update or download something, it just crashes.
I will wait and try a bit further before considering full wipe... :-(
here's a logcat

Did you try to completely uninstall Play Store then reflash the GApps.zip from recovery?
It sounds like something is glitchy with the app or files associated with it. If you just tried to install new versions over it you might have kept what's causing the problem. So do a full delete of the Play Store.
It can't hurt!
yeah i had tried that, the second the phone booted, the crash notification appeared right away.
I wiped everything except sd card, installed other rom, and so far so good,
i guess i'll wait for the next release of OS...

[Q] Whtsapp stopped working and now throwing unknown errors

Hi everyone,
I have been using my nexus 5 since 4-5 days now and everything was working fine till last night when whatsapp started giving me errors (unfortunately app has been closed). I uninstalled whatsapp and when I am trying to re install it, its now giving me error "unknown error code on application install -24"
I have tried installing via apk, playstore's website, cleared the cache and data of playstore app, rebooted phone but nothing works.
I am hesitant to root my nexus 5 as there is no official recovery available and people are having issues when rooting the device and I cannot afford to have an unstable phone. Hard reset is an option but I would like to avoid it if possible. I have read that if I delete the related whatsapp folder from data/data folder somehow then it will fix the issue. Is there any way I could access and delete that folder without being rooted or if someone has any other solution to my problem.
Any help is much appreciated

Same thing happened to me, Did you enable ART? Because that's what caused my errors (force closing). After switching back to Dalvik and trying to re-install, i was getting -24 error on the play store. I rebooted a few times and left it for a few hours. Tried again and it worked.
Whatsapp is i believe in-compatible with ART.

Okay, As for as i know, it did fix itself when i rebooted a few times and after a while it just worked.
Things i also tried that might have helped. Clear cache for the playstore which you tried. i would do this again after you switched back to Dalvik. and make sure whatsapp is uninstalled before switching to Dalvik. Once you switch back and have cleared cache from the playstore, try to re-install Whatsapp.
As for the backup, on your phone is a whatsapp folder that has a backup of your messages and photos etc. When you re-install whatsapp it'll pick that up and restore your stuff. There is no need to delete that folder.
I Hope that fixes it for you.

Right so far thats what i did, and thats exactly what happened to me. I just left it for a few hours and tried again it worked. Just give it a few hours and re-try / reboot and re-try.
It didnt work. I had to factory reset my phone eventually and wasted my evening doing all the restores, I wish Android had a seamless backup system something like that of Apple's. Helium/Titanium/mybackup, all of them have some kind of flaws

I am not rooted at the moment so TB wasnt really an option. Helium works fine only for apps and their data but I am looking for something that can restore my phone exactly how it was before the reset including home screens, settings etc without being rooted.

That what you are looking for would be a nandroid backup made in a custom recovery, that restores everything. But not possible without root.
Hi,
I have the same problem. Error -24 if I want to install Whatsapp from Google Play Store. Local installation after downloading the APK from Whatsapp gives also an error (app not installed).
Tried several times to delete the cache and setting of the Play Store app and the Google Framework. Followed by restarts of the phone. Until now I was NOT succesful.
As far as I read on other forums, the problem is, that in data/data/ already exists a Whatsapp-directory and therefore Whatsapp doesn't want to install. You could delete this directory, but only if you are rooted. I avoided this step until now, because it's a new phone with warranty and after rooting, all data ist wiped.
I also tried adb to delete this directory, but same effect. Because the phone is not rooted, I can't remove this directory by remote shell.
Is there no way to clean up such remains WITHOUT root?

[Q] Trouble opening Downloads app

Alright this has happend a couple times in the past to and I did not think much if it. It has began happening again ever since I flashed the latest Mahdi ROM. Now it might be a problem with the ROM but It has happend with many other ROMs as well. I was wondering if there is some sort of fix...When I go to open the Stock Downloads application it always say "Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped working" now I can download everything fine but I just can't open the application. I tried going to the app and clearing the cache but that did not do much...any help would be appriciated.
Try reinstalling gapps
Hi,
Have you deleted or froze (with Titanium Backup for example) some system apps?
Because this has happened to me when I froze, don't remember exactly, some files like:
Code:
GoogleBackupTransport.apk
SharedStorageBackup.apk
BackupRestoreConfirmation.apk
And maybe one or two others..., sorry I can't be more precise because now I don't use DowloadProviderUI.apk (deleted), the stock download app if you prefer. Did you flashed the Gapps, if yes which ones?
Im gonna try and re install the gapps now, I did use bloatware remover to get rid of some apps. Im using the pa_gapps-modular-mini-4.4.2-20131230-signed gapps...
clear data for the app in the main phone settings, apps, all..

Play Services force-closing - fix?

Yes, this is a straight-forward fail - I am running a CM13-based ROM and flashed a nightly build (has been redrawn meanwhile) onto my N5 without backing up first. Right after the first reboot, I received a "Play Services has stopped working" error message and this keeps appearing all the time. Additionally, the Google Now Launcher has disappeared from my launcher list - and of course, all the Play Services-dependent features don't work, i.e. Chrome, Contacts sync, Play Store and so on. So, my phone basically is useless.
I suspect all the problems arise from the non-working Play Services. I managed to uninstall them after deactivating the Android Device Manager and re-installed the latest version, but this didn't fix the problem. Is there anything else I can try? Or is there no way around a complete wipe?
have u flashed Gapps?
Tried it, but didn't help either. I'll just go for a full wipe now. But thank you for answering!

try clearing Cache and dalvik cache and then delete the host file from "etc" folder!
I should've tried deleting the host file. Wiping Dalvik and Cache didn't work before...
Anyway, I took the opportunity, put my 32GB mainboard in and set up everything from scratch.
Are you using amplify?
No, I didn't use that.
