hey guys i just noticed that our camera doesnt support zoom -.-
is there anyway by how we can port some custom app or somthing by which we can enable zoom and hopefully HD video recording(assuming that its possible bcuz many phones having 5mp cameras have it)
and also it would be good if we could use the "R" button for taking pics
I've tried LOADS of camera apps for this exact reason, and most of them come up saying that the camera does not support zoom, so i guess it is the actual hardware, not the program that is to blame its a same really, the only thing letting this phone down so far, that i have found, is the camera on it, tho i was used to my Nokie N82 8mp, with its AMAZING camera!!
i know its sad why why SE doesnt make devices perfect!! all of the devices have some or the other thing missing
I see no point in digital zoom az its like cropping the full size picture!
There must be an app somewhere that allows zoom. Anyone tried to get the xperia x10 app?
I can't believe this a lot pf people complained how the iphone didn't have zoom now Sony does this?

+1 on that! Quality seriously degrades
Yea, digital zoom is mostly pointless.
All it does is degrade the picture quality by cropping it, which you can do on your PC after you have taken it.
I have another question.
Is there zoom during video?
Nope :S

No luck yet? I've tried many apps but none of them work so far.

Camera Zoom FX and Vignette support zoom and work ok after playing with settings. I think camera zoom FX compresses even unzoomed images to look worse than with stock camera. Vignette does not open right at default but after going through some setting I could fix it. Hope it helps.
I must say I was very surprised that SE haven't made a bespoke camera app for the XPlay, bit naff to have the basic GB one only
Guys, our camera hardware doesn't support any sort of zoom what so ever, disappointing I know. But quite honestly, zoom on a phones camera(unless its a pretty high megapixel camera), usually sucks.

I'm not bothered about having zoom in the app, as digital zoom is pointless and is less effective than zooming in to a full size pic with Photoshop or similar. What I would like is a fully fledged camera app though, with filters, proper settings, panorama/HDR mode etc which is all software so is perfectly possible.
Likewise, I have no interest in the zoom but is there any way to get a camera app with the interface like that on the Arc? I realise we can't have the 3D stuff/sweep etc. but just the interface would be good...can't stand the stock android app.
Hi all
I know this isn't a new issue as I've seen posts on it elsewhere. However, I am wondering if it's an issue that affects everyone or just some.
Basically, when you take portrait pictures at 5MP, my photos get a green line down the left-hand side. Does anyone else using the Ville CM10 (any version I have tried) get this? I generally prefer 5MP, especially given the slightly limited memory on our device!
Thanks
James

looks strange, did you wiped everything before your cm10 installation? and does this green line appear in other modes too (8mpx etc.)

Yes, this only happens with the 5MP mode (and strangely only portrait) - I am currently using 8MP to bypass.
I also did a fresh CM10 install and have tried with various stable/nightly releases and stock/custom kernels. It's not a massive problem... I was just curious more than anything else. Having to use a camera at the resolution it was designed for is a small price for an otherwise rock-solid OS!

Hi all,
after almost getting rid of my Sensation, finaly got round to taking the leap to get a JB rom, to extend the life of the handset. Everything has gone well, and I've installed Albinomans ROM fine. I have noticed one thing so wanted to ask any JB based rom users a question.
In the stock JB camera app the pictures are in 4:3 format (which is fine, and I know there is a flashable zip, but bear with me). I prefer this aspect ratio for pictures, however, when taking a picture, the whole screen is taken up, which is effectively a 16:9 screen, so its hard to frame pictures correctly.
Basically, if you have a JB rom, when taking a picture, is the whole screen taken up? And then when you look at the picture taken it the gallery, is there more above and below what you saw then you took the photo.
I'm interested to know if this is the behaviour of a JB camera in general or maybe something to do with the ROM I have. I dont have enough posts to ask a specific queestion in the DEV thread, but I would appreciate any feedback.
If there is no way round it then I will have to just settle for using camera ICS from the market so I can see what I want to take
Thanks in advance
Jonny

Hi, ive been using this mod for a while now http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901917 . Just flash it and then make sure you are opening the right camera app (There will be 2 now!) . The correct one has the option to choose 16:9. However if force closes first time but dont worry it only happens once!

Thanks for the reply. I have come across that mod in my searches before posting, and its the flashable zip that I mention in my opening post. I'm less concerned about 16:9 and more concerned that 4:3 is shown properly - tbh both would be nice.
Seeing as you have it installed, can you tell me if the non 16:9 modes correctly show the right aspect ratio? If so, it should have a border on the sides, like the ICS camera, then go back to full screen when you chose the 16:9 option.
Are we able to remove that flashed version if its not what is wanted? From what you say it won't replace the original but would probably like to get rid of it if its not suitable.
Thanks for replying, would appreciate the info I mention above.
Cheers

Anyone else using the Google camera app on their s8 or s8 plus, specifically the snap dragon models? If so what is your opinion of it versus stock camera?
So far from my brief usage of the app I think it far surpasses the galaxy camera app.
Hold on, Getting Google Camera right now.
I have it with a pixel hdr mod and it's great here's some sample photos
Way worse than stock imo. Poor processing, less detail, worse colors. I think it's terrible honestly

The Google camera app that I have has HDR plus as an option and that seems to worn really well. Is that the same thing as the pixel HDR mod? If not point me in the right direction.

Wow. I've taken several photos and compared them side by side and each time the Google camera app has better colors and all around looks better, even my wife and kids think so. I guess since they look so different it's throwing you off, but it is by far not terrible at all, at least in my experience.

Hardly. Are you saying it from the point of view of someone with photography experience? If not, I respectfully disagree entirely to put it lightly. From someone very into photography, it pales in comparison.

Photography experience or not I think it's safe to say and widely agreed upon that Samsungs camera oversaturates images and leaves them far too bright. In my experience tons of details are missing from the s8 stock camera app as opposed to the Google camera app. Perhaps your experience is different for whatever the reason may be. I can't speak on that.

Argue all you want, or go ask someone else with experience. Regardless of your opinion on color saturation, examine more than just that. Blow up an image and zoom in. Fine detail is slaughtered in the Google camera app. You're neutering your camera in order to avoid color saturation lol

That's actually the exact opposite experience that I've had. Detail is leaps and bounds better for me using the Google camera app, even zooming in.

Hey Folks!
I've seen many pictures of people who shot great night sky pictures with a looong exposure time with their S7!
Since I moved to Lineage OS 14.1 I am missing this feature a lot. Is there a App that does a good job for long exposure pictures?
I am using Google Camera with HDR+ but this App does not seem to give me the chance to take good night sky pictures.
Any thought about this?
Thanks in advance!
Just use the stock camera application. Enable pro mode and then set low iso and small shutter speed.

I am not using the TouchWhiz Android, but LineageOS. Therefore the stock Samsung Apps are not available.
I was hoping someone knows a good camera that does a good job. Google Camera does not seem to have a "long exposure"-feature for night sky pics...

I already tried Open Camera. It only allows me to take 1/10s exposure time. Fairly not enough for astrophotography...
Any ideas what to try?

Sorry, my answer sucks
I was unaware about the 1/10s shutter speed limit. Can't imagine why I thought it could do longer exposures.

No worries man, thanks for your help anyway!
I am surprised nobody else seems to try to take long exposure pictures with LineageOs...
Try taking system/etc/remissions and copying it to lineage and then unpacking to system zero camera mod. May work
