Hi all
I know this isn't a new issue as I've seen posts on it elsewhere. However, I am wondering if it's an issue that affects everyone or just some.
Basically, when you take portrait pictures at 5MP, my photos get a green line down the left-hand side. Does anyone else using the Ville CM10 (any version I have tried) get this? I generally prefer 5MP, especially given the slightly limited memory on our device!
Thanks
James

looks strange, did you wiped everything before your cm10 installation? and does this green line appear in other modes too (8mpx etc.)

Yes, this only happens with the 5MP mode (and strangely only portrait) - I am currently using 8MP to bypass.
I also did a fresh CM10 install and have tried with various stable/nightly releases and stock/custom kernels. It's not a massive problem... I was just curious more than anything else. Having to use a camera at the resolution it was designed for is a small price for an otherwise rock-solid OS!

It's a damn hard problem to fix. If you think about it it's a deep down driver level issue that requires a pretty broad skill base to diagnose and fix. Years of coding experience to understand yet alone begin to fix it... It doesn't help that this isn't supported by Samsung nor the camera developer.
So it's incredible that the damn thing even turns on. I'd say Entropy and jt are smart enough to fix it in time though

I miss 720, imo its the only thing holding me back from flashing any other ICS Roms. I wonder if the camera can be fixed with an aftermarket app, like how TORCH was fixed by using an app.
I guess this could help you https://www.box.com/s/e122d0f656ea949f58c2 It's from this forum http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=432576&highlight=Fix+grabacion+720p+JB

Sorry, but this forum is not only to HTC devices. If you take a moment, you see that it's like this web. The only mistake I maked is that this patch is for the Samsung Galaxy S i9000GT, but I post it just to help you. Maybe this patch could give you some idea to make one by yourself.

I wasn't mad at you or anything...I knew you were trying to help, I mainly made such a big deal to ward off newbs...they may flash it. May break something then they freak out...wanted to save them.the trouble
Anyways...some of our best devs have been trying to fix it for quite a few months (entropy, jt1134...).theyve tried to use/adjust the I9000 camera patches...but still nothing :/
I just saw HTC in the address and assumed it was an HTC patch

Actually...720p is A LOT smoother then it used to be (haven't used it in months ) and just for the heck if it I flashed your linked I9000 zip...well after the flash it was back to how bad I had remembered (neither were good)

Here's the fix for 720p recording.
I am also torn over the missing 720p recording, but I am still incredibly happy with JB! The only other major issue is the banding I get in photos, although someone had mentioned that possibly JB changed the shutter/refresh speed in the camera which produces the banding under fluorescent lighting conditions. Unfortunately I saw nowhere to manually adjust this.
The other major issue was the darn thing disconnecting from Bluetooth in my Toyota Entune system, but supposedly version 2.12 and the OC V2 Kernel fix the issue. Will be testing it out today.
I get the same lighting effect on my pics as well. Paranoid Android, is working flawlessly. Besides 720 and other issues, its a great rom, and good on battery life.
Everything is almost fixed, so we might get lucky w/ 720

I just wanted to update and say that the banding lines I was receiving seem to be isolated to a specific building at my university. I am guessing the JB Rom somehow changed the shutter rate setting and in doing so it introduced a "flicker" banding line effect due to the fluorescent lighting in the building. If I go outside, or to other buildings with fluorescent lighting it does not do this, so the bulbs in the original building must be perfectly attuned to a rate that interferes with the imaging sensor.
I haven't found a way to tweak or fix this issue, but as long as photos in most other lighting and outside are fine I am alright with it.
Please try this out and let me know if this is also your issue.

That's cool! I wish I could find a way to reproduce that!
I'm having some issues with my camera when using flash. I'm running the latest version of clean rom, and i've tried others with the same results. When i use flash i get lines that show up as it saves into gallery. Kinda weird cause as i take the picture it looks great, then adds lines. Thanks for any help in advance. Here is an example, there are worse ones too.

Here is a link to the picture, i dont think the other one worked.
This is very similar to my hugely popular mod for the Nexus 7 that I did. I did this because it seems CM on the One doesn't support 720p or 1080p, so maybe some vloggers or people who like to take videos of themselves (vain people?) would enjoy this very simple modification.
I got 1080p video recording working on my One under CM and felt you guys should know about this too. It's a simple fix as it's not a limitation of hardware or a kernel function or anything, rather for some reason HTC is using a weird way to enable 1080p in the stock firmware that doesn't carry over to CM. They aren't using the media_profiles.xml. This mod includes 1080p recording for the front camera, as well as some alterations to the bitrate of the audio and video to give it slightly better quality in the output videos. You won't really notice it unless you're really trying, but it's little things that all add up to give a better experience.
This is NOT needed under stock ROMs
Somehow, HTC have made their camera application NOT need to read the media_profiles.xml, and as a result the stock ROM does not need this modification. Only CM based ROMs need this. I don't know if it's needed under the Google Edition firmware or not. You'll have to let me know.
How To Install
Download the zip (M7-1080p-Camera-for-CM)
Reboot to recovery
Install
Reboot to Android
???
PROFIT!
The Mod
It's the same deal as on the Nexus 7: simply use my attached pre-modified file and push it to /system/etc/media_profiles.xml. I expect the permissions will be 644.
How It Works
I had to explain this on the Nexus 7, so I'll explain it again. The hardware already supports this functionality as the camera itself just sends RAW information to the processor, and then based on the settings the processor is given by Android, the processor encodes it in the format it's been told to, for example for the rear camera it would be told to record 1920x1080 @ a certain bitrate to H.264. The processor itself doesn't tell Android what the hardware is capable of (and considering the Snapdragon 600s enormous video encoder capabilities, they're very high), Android is told what it can do by the file media_profiles.xml.
No this will not improve video quality in Skype/Hangouts/whatever other thing you want to do, this will only work for video recording applications.
Download Link
Check the attachments below. There are two files: media_profiles and M7-1080p-Camera-for-CM - media_profiles is JUST the XML file, and M7-1080p-Camera-for-CM is the installer for CWM/TWRP. Most users will want that. Just install it from in CM.
Video For Your Delectation
I'll make a YouTube video of it soon
am I totally wrong or the HTC One front facing camera records on 1080p, so why this?
I'm guessing that somehow I'm wrong and this is actually useful

You are not wrong, I'm also seeing all the same profiles (MMS, 720P, 1080P) when switching to the front camera... so why this MOD? lol

Interesting. It appears to work in the stock firmware, but not on CM, but even in the stock firmware it doesn't have the 1080p media profiles. I'm guessing HTC are doing something sneaky to make it work. Well this mod still works for CM nonetheless. Guess I need to add this to CM like I did with the N7. Of course the purpose of this mod is slightly killed by the front camera working like *** on CM.
Good to know though.
Seeing this mod is rather pointless on the stock ROMs, I will make it useful and max out the encoder capabilities. Be back in an hour when I find the full abilities of the Snapdragon 600s video encoder.
EDIT: Updated first post to now include my updated media_profiles.xml for 1080p front camera recording and increased bitrate video and audio.
Just realised why CM doesn't do 1080p for the front camera. They use a common media_profiles.xml for ALL MSM8960 HTC devices.. which means older crappier phones have the same profile. Effectively, this limits CM on the One a lot. Lemme relearn how to make a commit to CM so I can add this into their repo.
Does this get rid of the green hue in the front camera too in CM?

Unfortunately not. I'm not sure what causes that, but I want to look into it because it's really odd it only happens to the front camera. I suspect the sensor has a weird colour profile that isn't being set up right? Could be wrong.

In my case, that green hue is related to light surrounding (I ain't sure what's the term for it, but it's that sun/cloudy/AW/bulb thingy in camera settings circle).

So much time past from last post but this mod works on GPE stock 4.4.3 (I'm not kidding).
Thanks a lot
I was going to post this in the Droid Kang ROM thread, but I don't have enough posts to post in the developers forum.
I finally jumped ship from stock and ended up on the Droid Kang ROM. I'm liking it quite a lot, but two issues with the camera that I didn't have before:
- Is there any way to make the volume keys take a picture?
- Face detection isn't enabled anymore (which links to focus and exposure)
Is there an option somewhere that I'm missing? Or a camera apk update that I could do?
Thanks in advance!
bump...any thoughts?
Your best option would be to use a different camera app like Camera FV-5.. ProCapture...

I've bought a ton of camera apps but never found anything I liked more than the stock camera. Most of them seemed too clunky and not actually improve the photo taking experience or quality. I'll check these out, thanks!

I have had this weird issue for a while now, between ROMs and full wipes so it seems to be hardware related. I have also tried several camera apps. This ONLY happens with the flash on.
See images attached and notice the distinct line down the middle and the colour/light change between sides.
I just want to know if anyone else has come across it and the best way to fix it (replace camera module etc.) given it only occurs with flash on, would changing camera module even help?!
Thanks in advance.

There's nothing you can do about that line. It's been an issue on CM since the Oneplus One was released. Use either Snap or CameraNext apps for taking pics. Alternatively use a ROM with different camera HAL like Sultan, Omni, Darkobas etc they use different blobs without this issue.
