[Q] Best Kernel for the Nexus S

Hello all,
I am planning to change my kernel. But I am confused as to with what kernel I settle down. So seeking help of you community members.
I prefer kernel which has a nice performance and great battery life and that can work with majority of Roms including MIUI.
I heard that marmite latest version 7.3 is not stable. So if you suggest marmite then also please mention which version I download.
I am running on JB stock atm.
Thank you for reading.

if you got 5 people to respond you would get 5 different answers
you would still need to use the search function
[available on every page...] to find and READ information about each one
every phone is a little different in the way the hardware responds
no two folks use their phone the same
what works perfect for me might make your device reboot continuously
the short answer is that only you can determine what works best for you and your phone
stop trying to avoid the effort needed to expand your knowledge
use the search engine
I am not avoiding. I am just new to kernels hence asking. I did study a bit about kernels available. But asking as I don't want to miss out any good kernel.
Try out marmite, matrix, and air kernel.

Marmite its always a good start, them u should try others, but it seems that for Nexus S, besides all the little differences between devices Marmite is the one to rule them all.
_thalamus kernel

By the way Every Android 4.2.2 ROM is Better then Google Stock ROM Android 4.1.2
Benchmark of Stock ROM Android 4.1.2 is Just 1500+ .. So, i am Very disappointed..
I agree that there is no best ROM, I just wish I had the problem of picking a best 4.3 ROM for the NS4G... there are like 3 choices, maybe, and they don't handle data well, if at all.

Benchmark doesn't mean anything. I mean even if the do, there more than a benchmark number to the every day use.
It's also about stability, smoothness, memory management, multi app use.
I truly think 4.2.1 stock is the most stable of all of them. Add a good kernel to it, and it's like google on steroid. Again, we are talking 512ram here, so don't expect too much. People expect different things from their phone. I don't play games at all, but I stream music via bluetooth constanly while I use navigation. Imagine these 2 memory hogs running at the same time and someone is calling you.
4.2 for me personally was a bit buggy. 4.3 is much better, still not as good as 4.1.
Does BlackBean-9 to Nexus S?
Sorry folks, best rom threads get closed, why? because history shows that almost all of them become arguments over what rom is "better" and essentially, that is something that can only be determined by individual users.
Members are expected to read the thread in development to determine what is "best" for them.

Omni ROM - hope our g3 gets some builds!

Hi there!
Hope you've read the xda portal post on Omni ROM....if not, just read it...
Many great devs similar to many of our great g3 devs have teamed up to create a new feature-rich, open source ROM.....the source code is available at github.....
I don't know if we'll get some builds of that.......maybe some in the near future or some time later....
We'll wait to see!
What do you think ??
S4 got it
Its. Based on android 4.3 so v might not get it!
Hope I'm wrong

Well, Galaxy Apollo does not have fully-functional device repo anywhere for Android 4.3, so I guess we won't get it.
BUT, did you read the Android 4.4 KitKat stuff? Some say, that it will be available for older devices

Android 4.4 Kitkat for Sensation

Well, we all know Google already published Android 4.4 Kitkat and also the source is already pushed to AOSP trees. It means Cyanogenmod and the other custom roms based on AOSP is ready for Kitkat. Let's talk about Kitkat here, calling all the devs who maintain CyanogenMod and AOSP based roms for Sensation
EDIT: Okay, now we already have 4 Kitkat Roms for Sensation. Here is the list:
1. Sultan's a.k.a @android1234567 CM11 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2530073
The most (imho) stable CM11 at this moment, the only broken things are Front facing camera and some games give you black screen, I've tested Asphalt 8 and its force close. I use this rom for my daily driver.

2. @dominos_liberty CM11 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2540521
The first, CM11 with 3.4 Kernel powered for Sensation. I don't tested this rom yet. I think almost everything is working but camera still having some issues.

3. @albinoman887 CM11 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524961
Another CM11 for Sensation, almost stable but maybe this rom little bit outdated since Albinoman said that he was having problem with his real life. So, just be patient.

4. @rathore4u Carbon ROM 4.4.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2444478
Yeaa this is Carbon ROM, my favorite one because it has tons of customization on previous JB 4.3.1. Some features not added yet on KK 4.4.2. This rom pretty stable for me.

However, since 4.2 Qualcomm do not provide libs for the Snapdragon S3, which means that some functionality will still be broken (however, it still works fine, As demonstrated on CM10.1 and 10.2). I hope it will run at least like the current CM versions on the sensation (or even better).
My hope is team carbon as they have pushed out 4.3.1 update and works fine along with Sultan Kernel.....hopefully they will work on 4.4:fingers-crossed:
Yes, we will see it, but not that soon. Cyanogen team announced that they are going to maintain and get the most of 4.3 because of all the hard work of the devs, and then start working on 4.4 (yumm)

I hope that we'll get 4.4 kitkat on our sensation

How do I do that?????
Hi everybody…. I am completely lost when trying to use a ROM (I don't even know what that stands for) to jailbreak (I know that's more of an iPhone term so I apologize in advance) my Sensation. I'd like to try to get KitKat on there but I don't even know where to begin. Is there a site or a step by step guide that anyone can lead me to? THANKS in advance!!!
There is no kitkat for sensation at the moment...
CM 10.2 from 4.3 is still under construction...
...
Hoping for Carbon or CM 11 for my Sensation

See slimroms announcement regarding this matter. So you may have to wait a bit, but i would be surprised if one of the devs would not give a try.
Yeah
And if they didn't then we will donate to them in Advance to start it:highfive:
I'd love to see it for 5110 as well
Which kernel do you prefer for now? For p3100 cyanogenmod?
Be patient guys. Google did not released the source yet, after that it will take some time until well known roms like SlimRoms,OmniROM or CM merge those changes.

Stock CM11 kernel is good enough.
I've tried almost all the kernels of this forum, an the stock is the less "clicky" on audio playback.
