[Q] gooManager and twrp - Asus Transformer TF700

I was toying with unlocking my tf700t to install cromi-x and installed gooManager, i kind of accidentally installed the openScript recovery BEFORE unlocking my device (it is rooted), now that my warranty has expired, i have unlocked the device, but when i try to use twrp i get the dead android, when i try to reinstall it from gooManager, by telling it to install the openScript recovery, it tells me "no recoveries were found for your device" how can i solve this so i can go ahead and flash cromi-x??

To use GooManager you need to have root. When you tried to use it to install TWRP before unlocking it silently failed. Unfortunately GooManager never reports a failed install.
Use the fastboot method to install TWRP - it's worth it to get fastboot working for trouble shooting purposes.
A shortcut or slightly easier way would be to use the "Minimal ADB Fastboot Tool" here from XDA. Just google it.
Edit: Sorry, overlooked that you were rooted. For some reason GooManager doesn't seem to work on our tablets right now - have read several posts about it....

thx for the input, i was working on going the adb/fastboot way, but didn't wanna go ahead before hearing from someone from here just in case, you know, just trying not to brick the thingy.
fastboot worked like a charm
had to do it on windows though as for some reason, woudlnt wanna work on linux.....(my soul died a lil booting 3 times in a month into windows )
weird thing is that gooManager did seem to work the first time.....before i was unlocked but not afterwards.
anyways, thanks for the help.

Need help rooting and/or flashing twrp

Hello everyone!
I need some help rooting my tf300t, because what I've read here and there was somewhat useless, since everyone sais different stuff. For first I'd like to ask for your help in clarifying which one is first. I have read guides in which rooting was first than pushing the recovery, and I have read ones in which fasbooting recovery was the first thing to do, and than flashing su. I have tried both methods, with no luck. When I try to fastboot twrp onto my device, it sais 'waiting for device'. I read that this means fastboot is not properly configured, but I am an administrator on my PC and I have the proper drivers, since adb reboot-bootloader works. So thats for flashing twrp first. Then rooting first. I tried with motochopper, but that does no work on 10.6.1.27.5. So I tried pushing root files manually, but when adb shell /data/local/temp, it sais failure. So if you could help me, of what did I do wrong, I'd greatly appreciate it.

First make sure that you have unlocked your bootloader (text in the upper right corner of boot screen). What I did first was flash TWRP from ADB. In your case, you would flash the stock ROM, and then flash SU.

I know I'm unlocked sorry for not mentioning that, though even that was strange, because the unlock device app should have wiped the memory, but it didn't, and still unlocked. But I don't exactly understand what you mean by flashing the stock ROM, then SU. And if you mean that do that with twrp, I can't because fastboot flash recovery twrp.blob just waits for device. Is there another method which I can flash it with? Thanks in advance

If it says "waiting for device," your PC is not communicating with the tab. What Windows version do you use? Does "fastboot device" command from fastboot mode on tab return any serial number? It should show a serial number before you can flash TWRP onto the tab. And where did you read that unlocking the device would wipe the memory?
Get fastboot to work first, then you can flash whatever. Otherwise, if you're on stock recovery, try loading the rom zip file onto your sd card and flash it using RCK option. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, read first, so you don't brick your tab just because you have no idea what the heck you're doing.

For first, I downgraded my device, so I could root it with motochopper. Then I flashed recovery with the way explained here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1845377
Now twrp seems to be working, i can start it, but it cant mount anything, so i cant flash anything from the device. Both 2.5 and 2.4.4 does this. Goo manager cant find a recovery for this device, so i cant use that either. Fastboot still cant see my tab. Im on windows 7, with proper drivers
Nevermind my stupidity, I installed the wrong recovery, not the one for the 4.2 bootloader. By now I'm a proud owner of a tf300t with cyanogenmod on it Thank you both though, for trying to help

TF300T 4.2 TWRP Error

Hi XDA,
I am a complete noob, and this is my first time posting, so bear with me.
Some time ago I rooted and unlocked my TF300 with SuperSu. Recently I wanted to upgrade to 4.4 kitkat. However, my Tablet was stuck at Andriod 4.1 because of the the unlock.
I went to manually update my TF via the Asus website. I installed the 10.6.1.8 using my TWRP 2.5, and Oem 4.1 OS. Installation worked just fine. After install, I booted up and I had 4.2 with everything working correctly.
Next step was to install TWRP 2.7.0.1. I reset my TF and went into RCK to see something went wrong when updating.
My TWRP will not load, and I get the Android on his back with the red triangle when I try to enter RCK.
Thanks in advance!!
I managed to install 10.6.1.27, but it did not change anything with my boot loader.
I downloaded motochopper, but that didn't seem to work, just told me my abt was out of date. SuperSu isn't working now either, "No Binary, There is a problem."
How do I install TWRP 2.7 with no boot loader? Please help.

Most people just install TWRP via fastboot like
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery twrp.blob
You could try using other root methods, like Framaroot or Kingo. I think Kingo was reported to work on the latest stock version.

I will look into that, but I am pretty sure I was already rooted, unless losing my boot loader means I am no longer rooted.
Another thing, I can't find a twrp.blob for 2.7, just a zip. I have one for 2.5, but that is useless because I already have 4.2. I also have not been able to find a working link to fastboot.
If anyone could give me a link to the fastboot or a link to a tutorial, that would be amazing. I have done my research, but all the lingo and different methods can be mind bending.
Thanks

You can get the img (which substitutes as a blob) from extracting it from the TWRP 2.7 zip file.
1) You will need ADB and fastboot for this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42407269. I would suggest keeping the tablet at least at 50% battery.
2) Install Naked Drivers. This may be optional for you. If you can proceed to the next step without, you won't need it.
3) Enter fastboot by rebooting and holding down the power button. TF300 enters fastboot automatically since this is 4.2 BL.
4) Next we need to enter a command. In side the ADB folder, hold shift and right click. Then select Open command window here.
first check to make sure the device is connected:
Code:
fastboot devices
The device serial number should be listed.
enter command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img -i 0x0b05
Blue bar on device will fill. Be patient.
5) Reboot the Device back into Android. This is an important step.
6.) Go back into TWRP and install what you want.
You are amazing. I will give it a try tonight and report back!

Installed adb fastboot. However, my device does not automatically go into fastboot, I still have to hold down the volume key.
Once I am in fastboot usb (with the 3 icons), I fastboot successfully and get the serial number, then when I type the 'fastboot flash recovery twrp.img -i 0x0b05' command I get this error: cannot load 'twrp.img' : No error
I am attemping to use the 2.7.0.1 twrp from the 4.4.2 page. I have extracted the recovery.img (tried renaming to twrp and left it the same) and placed it in the root of both my external and internal sd.
I have now tried it with .zips .img .blob and I receive the same error everytime. Not sure what I am doing wrong now.

Awesome! Worked like a charm. twrp 2.7.0.1 installed perfectly.
Then I tried to flash the cyanogenmod. Said it installed fine, but it just gets stuck on the loading screen...
I am trying to do exactly what TallMilk is doing...put Cyanogenmod on my tablet. It is my understanding that I have to unlock my bootloader though? Which I have tried doing a million different ways with the Asus Unlock tool which always gives me an error.
If I follow the instructions posted above I will be able to flash Cyanogenmod without unlocking my bootloader?

Finally got it to work. I had to do a wipe first, read about old roms interfering with new installations.
SilentSpartan, I used SuperSU last year to root and unlock my tablet when it was still a 4.0 android to flash to 4.1. This recent update was from 2.5 TWRP on a rooted device running 4.2. When I installed 4.2, it blew away my TWRP, and I had to flash the new TWRP 2.7.0.1.
That flash from OEM fastboot to TWRP 2.7.0.1 is what I needed help with.

You're going to have to unlock no matter what. Did you try both v7 and v8 of the unlocker and calling Asus Support to tell them to put your serial number back into the database (get a manager)?

[Q] Cannot flash TWRP

Hello all,
I'm working on my tf700t, attempting to install TWRP 2.7.1.1. I'm not running into much success.
I've used fastboot, but it is giving me the error "FAILED (remote: (InvalidState))"
I've also attempted to use the TWRP Manager app on the Play store. When I try to use the "Install TWRP" option, it gives me the error "This is somewhat embarrassing, isn't it? It seems we can't find what you're looking for."
I haven't tried the manual install from img file option, because I haven't found a TWRP img file (just .blob). I have done a fair bit of searching, but I'm not ruling out that the problem exists between the chair and keyboard.
As things stand, I've already used fastboot to erase the previous bootloader so that I was working with a clean start, as recommended by Demkantor's guide. So my Infinity is still booting in stock fine, but it has no bootloader left Fastboot does still seem to work, I should note.
Any ideas? I'd be happy to provide screenshots or work to answer any questions people may have, in order to get this thing working.
Thank you in advance!

Lots of questions...
If you refer to this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277112
it is NOT specific for this tablet. You can follow the general instructions to set up adb/fastboot on your PC, but that's it. The rest will not work as described on this tablet.
Did you unlock the bootloader with the Asus unlock tool?
You did not erase your bootloader. The tablet would not boot without one. So what did you do?
IF your bootloader is unlocked you either do not have the correct drivers installed or you are trying this on a USB 3.0 port or you're not running the command as administrator or.... something else...
You may want to check out this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2688891
As Bernd says sounds to me like you haven't unlocked the bootloader yet.
I am having the same problem as Asymptotex in regard to TWRP Manager when clicked on install TWRP. I know my bootloader is unlocked because it says so in the upper left corner when turned on.

Need help rooting Nexus 5

hey guys, I need help rooting my Nexus 5 running the latest version of Android, 6.0.1
I can't seem to find a method which sounds safe enough ..
I'm no newcomer to rooting as I have done it with many other devices but this is my first time trying it on a device running marshmallow
You could try what I did successfully with SuperSU 2.62 - I'm on MM 6.0.1 and was completely stock. I believe newer SuperSU versions are amendments/improvements to the install method rather than to the SuperSU binary functions.
Copy SuperSU 2.65 (brand new today) to your device, boot temporarily into TWRP ("fastboot boot twrp.img" rather than "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" which will permanently overwrite the stock recovery - make sure to get the right version for your N5), then in TWRP install SuperSU and reboot. You retain stock recovery (because TWRP lasts just for that session) and you can use SuperSU's full unroot function when the next OTA rolls out, install it, and then reroot.
https://dl.twrp.me/hammerhead/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64161125
Although Chainfire does stress that this is experimental, I've had no problems with it at all, like most other people. Still, I'll repeat his warning that everybody roots at his/her own risk. You'd have to be really unlucky, careless or stupendously incompetent to do unrecoverable damage...

i am not currently running twrp.. how do i flash it from recovery ?
Download into fastboot mode and you can use fastboot commands to flash TWRP on a permanent or temporary basis to the phone, boot into twrp, flash supersu, and reboot.
I provided the link to TWRP (rename it to twrp.img after downloading) and the command you need ("fastboot boot twrp.img" without inverted commas). Which piece isn't clear?
Edit: you aren't flashing TWRP from recovery. TWRP is the recovery. All you're doing is temporarily installing TWRP to allow you to install SuperSU. I obviously have to work on my communications skills...
Edit #2: To be sure that my message is clear, the temporary TWRP installation is done via Fastboot on the PC, not within TWRP. When you've temporarily installed TWRP, which will cause your N5 to display the TWRP screen, install the SuperSU on your device (put it somewhere where you can easily find it, like Downloads), then reboot. Job done.
Questions...?
i just tried flashing and i run into an error
FAILED(remote:image is not a boot image)
i have run into this error before but i cant recall how i fixed it . any suggestions?
I have to ask - sorry...
"I'm no newcomer to rooting as I have done it with many other devices but this is my first time trying it on a device running marshmallow"
Marshmallow is admittedly slightly different from previous versions, but not show-stoppingly. I've given you the best root instructions as clearly as I can with pointers to a Marshmallow-specific root.
What exactly have you done to invoke the "FAILED" message? Did you follow my instructions to the letter?
(Edit: I do feel your pain. Sorry for appearing frustrated, since I was a total noob not long ago and am still very far short of the many people here who know the technicalities of Android infinitely better than I do, but you really have to follow the advice and provide better information if you want people to have the patience to help you.)

yes it is
Are you running a Windows PC? Is the phone detected properly in fastboot mode? What command are you typing in?
yes I am running a windows pc, device is detected and I have used both :fastboot flash recovery twrp.img and fastboot boot recovery twrp.img
Now I see two mistakes in your commands, maybe mistypes.
:fastboot flash recovery twrp.img - this would install TWRP permanently in the recovery partition - if you lose the colon at the beginning.
fastboot boot recovery twrp.img - no "recovery" - just fastboot boot twrp.img - this will boot TWRP temporarily.
And have you downloaded TWRP, renamed it for ease of typing to "twrp.img" and put it in the fastboot directory? If Fastboot doesn't find twrp.img in its directory this would cause an error.
oh kk .my bad .. thanks

What is the best version of TWRP ro install on nexus 5 cata 6.0.1?
I suggest 2.8.7.0.
Just out of curiosity, why not 2.8.7.1? I think I read recently that someone had had some sort of problem with it, but I've been using it with no problems at all.

tf300t unlocked but not unlocked?

Hi and thanks for using your time to take a look at my post. I am trying to install cyanogenmod 12.1 on my TF300T.
I went to the Asus website and downloaded the unlock tool v8, installed on tablet, and ran it without any issues. Tablet reboots shows little "this device is unlocked" in top left corner. However when it boots up and I try to run an app like titanium backup pro or supersu app, the app say they cannot get root access....
Has anyone experienced this before?
Am I missing a step?
I have android ver. 4.2.1.
Any info is greatly appreciated.
Unlock unlocks the boot loader allowing you to load custom roms via additional boot loader as per rom instructions, it does not give root access. You will need to search to a process to root the tablet, I used Kingo root, some do not like using this......although I had no problems. Using custom roms and rooting is at your own risk!
So this is the process that ive Followed... I ran the unlock tool, everything completes without issue. Nexissue the command adb reboot bootload to get my tablet into correct mode. Once the tablet is ready I flash a recovery image (TeamWin TWRP) to the device and boot the recovery. From here, it seems that recovery does not permission to mount any of the drives/folders. I look at the log file and see errors sayin unable to find partitions and unable to mount folders/drives. Below is a link to an image of the errors.
I am not sure if this link will get posted correctly to this thread: https:// drive.google.com/file/d/0B-bmj1Mkq-xzMkQyMHVPU0poSjQ/view?usp=sharing
BTW, thanks for your quick reply.
FYI, for the link above, there is a space between the HTTPS:// and the word drive which start the web address. The forum would not allow me to post a link since I am new.
Sorry, I'm no expert. When I installed Kang TWRP for KatKiss Lollipop, I did lots of research before diving in. Carefully followed instructions and all went well. When you flashed TWRP did you then reboot into bootloader?
fastboot reboot-bootloader
I think you will have to give all the steps you took, then perhaps someone will come along with more guidance.
Just to add some clarity to my situation, in hopes that someone can help shine a light:
1) Installed and ran Unlock device app V8 on the Asus webiste. It claims this is compatible with android version 4.2, i have version 4.2.1. Unlock ran then needed to reboot device. Upon reboot I saw the message "This device is unlocked" in the top right of the screen.
2) Once device rebooted, I installed adb/fastboot on my pc and ran it using CMD.
3) Connect tablet to PC using usb cable.
4) Ran the command "adb reboot bootloader" to get the device into required mode.
5) Next I run the command "fastboot devices" to verify the PC can see the tablet.
6) Run the command "fastboot -i 0xb05 flash recovery Recovery.img" to flash over the Recovery image file I have. Flashing goes through without any errors.
7) Once flash completes, I press up volume button to go into recovery.
8) Recovery boots and I am at the screen with the various options to install, backup, restore, wipe, etc.... I have Team win recovery project v2.8.7.0
9) If i try to use the backup option, it shows my internal storage as (0MB). I look at the log file (https:// drive.google.com/file/d/0B-bmj1Mkq-xzMkQyMHVPU0poSjQ/view?usp=sharing) and see that it cant find or mount various drives. If you want to view link, copy url and remove the space between https:// and the word drive.
**** ALSO, if you have a better or proven method, please feel free to suggest.*****

This issue has been resolved. It looks like the version of TWRP I was using (2.8.7.0) was not getting access to the file systems to be able to make changes or install.
I downloaded version 2.8.7.2 and everyone went flawlessly after that.
Special thanks to bonzoe for telling me that he was using Kang TWRP which led me to google that and get a new version.
