I received a text/picture via hangouts which I opened to expand. Then someone else sent three pictures in the same conversation converting the message to mms however when I click on any of the second set of pictures it opens briefly and then the first message picture takes over. The only solution I found was to delete the original picture so that I can open any other picture. Is anyone else seeing that issue?
YES! I have the same problem! I do not want to delete the first picture. Hangout is broken for MMS! Yet after the last update.
How many people still use hangouts? A lot of the free sms/mms apps do everything better and more efficiently
yea is a mms bug. annoying one at that. i side loaded the original 4.3 sms just so i can view and save MMS slideshows. Google is apparently working on it. fastest send/receiving mms app i ever used tho.

i tired your way, but deleting the first pic deletes the whole set for me.

What app do you recommend? I've been reluctant to try anything else because as much as this bug annoys me, hangouts does a pretty good job at what I need it to do.
I use Hello. Beautifully minimal but not for everyone.

I posted something like this before but it didn't get much attention. I have a huge library of .gif looping pictures on my phone, and love to send them to people as reactions. Sending and receiving these .gif messages worked flawlessly in Touch Wiz, but in the aosp messaging app they are just sent as pictures. Is there any way to make this work?

When I tried handcent before, it did not work for me. I just tried it now, however, and it sends .gif messages successfully! I appreciate the help everybody!
I don't really like the handcent app so I'll only use it for gifs, but at least I can send them now.
Also I go to reddit.com/gifs or reddit.com/reactiongifs for all of my content

Well, besides Handcent, there's GoSms, and other 3rd party messaging apps that may be able to send Gifs, maybe one of them suits you better.

Ya I've tried several, but I just can't get away from that beautifully integrated aosp messaging app. I'll try to find one that works for me though.

So i got my nexus 5 yesterday which was actually amazingly fast as i ordered on the 5th and when i ordered it was due to leave warehouse by the 12th so i was more then happy
Im loving the phone it takes all the thing i loved from my N4 and improves apart .
Now down to my issues i like the UI of Hangouts for my SMS its just the Contacts it is taking my Google + contacts and adding them to my phone contacts being everyone from there is basically in my contacts anyways it is duplicating them and maybe its a bit OCD by i have to have every contact only once with a picture if they don't have pics or are duplicated i get really frustrated. I had a similar thing when i used MIUI on my N4 but they allowed you to merge contacts or delete unwanted duplicates. So far i haven't been able to find this but it may be due to my frustration so if anyone can help or advise that would be great

A Hangouts conversation is being treated differently than a "SMS" conversation.
There is currently no way to merge the conversations even if it's with the same person.

So is there anyway i can just take it off my phone i read if i download a new sms app such as chomp i can change it to the default but i have done that but when i go to change the default it only shows hangouts not chomp to make default

Until they come up with a solution to this (by they I mean Google) then you can just download another app to use for messaging until hangouts is smoothed out better. Or you could use the old messaging app and just extract it or search for it online

First thanks to both of you for such a quick reply i have sorted the issue by downloading 8sms which it then let me set as default know idea why it wouldn't do it with chomp . I hope they do sort the problem as i do like the idea of hangouts being a sms app but uses messenger very similar to Whats app i guess. Just make it so you can merge the contact from your address book to the hangout contact like i said MIUI has something similar
Anyone having issues with this? The verizon messaging app works great. except for the fact that if I want to share something I can't load up a current group chat like I can in Hangouts. and the app randomly shows a notification count on the lock screen that isn't accurate...

I think they're going to have to update the app for MMS to work properly. The same thing happened with the M7 when Hangouts originally launched.

I'm trying to migrate all my text messages including threaded group MMS from my Nexus 4 to my new Nexus 5. On my N4, I was using the stock messaging app, not hangout as my default messaging service.
I used My Backup Pro to migrate all the stuff over. It worked, sorta. All times on my threads were set to "5:02am" which is probably when the transfer finished. Therefore they're all chronologically jumbled.
Furthermore the MMS threads didn't show up properly. I would only see my response in the group thread.
PS. I downloaded the stock messaging app to use on my Nexus 5. And all these problems are shown on that app. Would you think using Hangout as default will change this?
I was wondering whether you guys had similar experiences and if you know any better ways to go about doing this again.

I use SMS Backup and Restore. Never had an issue with it. Timestamps are all what they should be.

Yup! Just make sure you check the box for MMS. I think it's free so there's no reason to not try it.

Cool, I'll give it a shot. Are you MMS group threaded or just pictures?
Okay, so I deleted the stock Android messaging app from my N5 and used Hangout as my default messaging app. And it seems like everything got transferred properly. Timestamps are all okay.
The only problem now are group MMS threads. When I open it, it just shows my responses. All the group participant responses don't show up.
Any clues?
I attached two pics to illustrate what I'm talking about. The group thread MMS only contains my response and the participant's response it buried in their SMS thread.

So I've had an odd problem for quite a long time now and I can't seem to find a fix.
So the first problem is that I can't send mms with the default message app but with the app Textra I can.. But it only works if I take the picture using the Textra app (if you press the camera in the Textra app the text area turns into the camera view so the picture is not as big as a picture taken by a normal camera app), if I try sending myself an mms it always works for some reason.
It's really bugging me I can't send pictures taken with the camera app, any help will be appreciated!
And BTW my provider is a Danish one named Bibob which uses Telenor's APN.

I am using Textra, have tried with google messenger, the default aosp one and one more which I cant recall the name of.

BTW I am able to recieve mms perfectly fine, could this have to do with how many kb the image im trying to send is?
