Fix for Sprint Portable Wi-Fi hotspot - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I get an error code 67 and can't use this app. Is there a fix available for this yet?

No. Voicemail app is not working either

Is there a JB ROM with 4G Wifi tether using netd(master) or softap available?

All the ones I've tried wifi tether doesn't work at all and I get an error about log file not found. Some ROMs repeatedly would ask for super user access when turning tether on and off even after I granted permission. One time it acted like it was working but no SSID broadcasted. Finally native tethering turns on but I lose data connectivity. For reference I have no problems on ICS getting it to work but could not get this to work on GB.
Crespos tether fix did not work for me on GB either fwiw.

[Q] Nexus 5 Hotspot issues.

I have noticed that the hotspot in the N5 is not working like in my Gnex, I tried putting it in 3G and I still get the Tmobile webpage that my plan does not include this service. I use ultimate user switcher on chrome to hide that I am using a PC and even with that, it gets detected. Maybe it's Kitkat that is sending the report that I am using hotspot and Tmobile always knows when is active...
If anyone has this issue, let me know to see if I am the only one.

Dd-wrt VPN on stock 4.4.2

I'm running a full stock N5 and trying to tunnel to my VPN with no luck. Have other tried this setup. It worked with my SGS2 phone.

No one has tried VPN with their device?

What type of VPN? I'm using PPTP to my cisco router - works fine. I'm not using the cisco VPN client - just the native Android client
Same thing. Pptp. Just tried the client in the settings.
My concern was maybe because I'm not rooted that there is a similar flag restricting this connection just like the flag restricting tethering in the database file.
As I said these same settings worked on my old SGS2

I am rooted, but I don't think that should cause a connection problem. (I didn't have to change any setting to get it to work).
What problem are you facing?
It just doesn't connect. It doesn't give any exception or error which makes it hard to diagnose.
In the past I've had issues with VPN. They seem to get resolved depending in android versions. Meaning at one point it didn't work on say 4.0 but then was resolved with 4.1.

So now I have been unable to setup PPTP as well as OpenVPN on my N5 stock. Has anyone with a stock unrooted
N5 got either of these working on the tmo $30 plan?

After trying unsuccessfully to use OpenVPN, I got PureVPN and never looked back. It's fast, connects immediately every time, and only costs 50 bucks a year.

For as frequent as I used it PPTP worked just fine. I don't get if this limitation is from the N5 or from the service. It is hard to compare since my last device worked was a S2 on sprint.

I have problem with VPN, but not from stock.
I have S4 with 4.4.2 and I can connect to PPTP VPN on my DD-WRT, but it have packet loss, some apps do not work, and after few minutes it stops working with 100% packet loss, while still showing as connected to VPN.
It is possibly due to reported 4.4.2 bug where VPN does not take correct max packet size.
I resolved this issue by setting ip4/6 in the settings instead of just ip6 which was on by default.

[Q] add vo-lte

I was wondering if there was a way to add this functionality to the nexus 5, I figure if one of the other crummy phones that Tmobile said its enabled on then the glorious master race of nexuses can surely run it all I'll need is some sort of mod to add the functionality
Any thoughts?
I don't think you need a modification to do it. It needs the network to have it.
I'm not sure of any of the networks have volte working yet. That's why the N5 drops to 3G for calls.
Edit: After some reading it appears you'd also need an update from the carrier. T-Mobile just turned theirs on in Seattle.

Bluetooth tether?

I was wondering if anyone got bluetooth tethering to work? I have a nexus 7, and turned on bluetooth tethering on my phone, and paired with the nexus 7, set to use for internet access, but, it just keeps telling me I'm offline, even though I'm connected. anyone have similar experiences or have any solutions?
Use Foxfi. It worked for me but the speeds topped out at 2.5 mb.

I just tried FoxFi. Using wifi hotspot says that I am not subscribed to the service, and using the bluetooth tether in foxfi won't let me use it for internet access on the paired device.
Sorry I misread that. I had trouble with Bluetooth to my tablet also. It did work to my laptop though.
