Nexus 5 wont turn on!! - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The phone won't turn on or charge every once in a while it will turn on when I put it in fast boot mode holding both up n down and the power but its a crap shoot...any advice ?
Don't know if this helps but it all started from typing reboot in the android terminal

If you get it in fastboot mode does your computer recognize it in adb?

try charging with a new cable/charger. It might just be dead. I sort of had the same issues. Using a different charger and cable solved it.
Best of luck
..if you only have one charger... unplug it for some time, reseat the usb cable too.

Get it in fastboot and restore it

I can rule out it being from the charger cause it charges just fine its only when I power it off that I have problems turning it back on ...its up n running now lol scared to turn it off again

For now. My charger / cable caused some headaches. I figured too..these are BRAND NEW...why would they fail.... yet they both were...
If it is working now and won't come on someday, make sure it has power.... this reminds me of threads saying my phone only boots to recovery..
It is a PIA but, really there probably isn't anything wrong with the hardware. Software....yes. Bummer either way! Glad its working.

my sensation dont turn ON

hello
i have drain my battery.
now it dont charge and dont turn on
i think is the CWM.
i used a 9v battery to charge my battery, but the phone dont turn on
when i connect to be charged the orange led, blinks for 11 times...
what i can do to turn on my phone ?
I had this problem. its not CWM. If u drained your battery till its fully dead. It has to be charged at a certain point for it to turn on. the blinking orange light means its charging. I left mines for 5 mins on the charger then unplugged it. Then hit the power button, then it turns on.

what recovery you have ?
i have cwm 4.1.0.5
Question... When you plugged it in in it's "completely dead" state, was the led off, flashing, solid? I drained my battery completely, when I plug it in, the led flashing 11 times last 3 flashes are slow then goes dark.
I tried doing what the ABOVE post said with connecting a bare usb wire for 20 mins to + and - red and black ...
but did not work either, maybe just going to tmobile and getting a battery switched out since it is still a new phone... may work? Its not even recognizing the phone in the computer to do the adb reboot function either... someone who fixed this issue please help us! dire need to use the phone ahhhh
theres like 4-5 people with this problem on the forums right now that havent figured out how to solve it

Does it show the charging symbol on the powered down phone when you plug the charger in? Maybe your power button is broken.
Make sure you are using the AC adaptor to charge and not a usb cable.
Nope, nothing atall :-(. The only indecation its doing anything is that the battery is getting warm.
Try this with both of your batteries, separately:
1. Remove battery from phone.
2. Wait for 5 minutes.
3. Put battery back in and connect to AC adapter (not usb)
4. Wait 5 minutes.
5. Press the power button.
6. Re-try 1-5 with the other battery.
Same thing happened to me... it seems the phone is not recognizing the power adapter.. ARGGHHHHHH
If anyone as fixed this, please let me know!!
You may want to give this tool a try, see if it does anything.

Hi, did you find a solution to this issue? my nexus S won't turn on.
It's getting warmer when plugged in, but it has no indicator of charging, nor is the power button working :S
Any help would be appreciated.
Hi
I would start a new thread since this is one year old....
But please give more information:
Are u rooted or stock?
If rooted, what recovery, what ROM, what was happening prior to issue.. etc.
The more info the better for readers to help give advice.
Good luck

Help...Dead One S will not charge

Help Please. I have been running this Trickdroid for quite some time. And thanks to such great battery life I have never seen my phone under 10%....until yesterday when it ran all the way down and powered it self off. ....now it will not take a charge tried all my different chargers even tried a rapid charger (Nex7 charger) and the charging LED never comes on. Will not even try to light up the screen when you hold the power button. I'm concerned about sending it in via TMO that they will fix it and find i unlocked and rooted it and charge me full price for my replacement. Any thoughts? Has this happened to anyone else on this ROM? Is there a way to revive it? Thanks.
Hold power button soft keys should light up then release after 3sec but it on charge and leave it there even if light doesn't come on and after awhile the light should come on
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Yes mate K1llacannon is right mate i can totally confirm that.
I read from one dude with a HOS he left it sit there a full night with the charger connected and after that he could use it again. Apparently, the light will come on eventually but it will take a while until the battery has enough juice to boot the phones charging electronics. Before that, it will take power but show no indicator.
Also, i suppose it is some sort of emergency circuit that charges in the beginning and it is only charging at some minimum rate or something like that so it takes a while...

Thanks guys for the reply....I have tried this and the keys never flash and I left it plugged in all night last night and then again all morning on a different charger and still nothing,....ugh.
It now does do this when plugged into the PC: The PC will do the "durp drup" like its connected then do the tone again as if its not connected again. This cycle just keeps going. I tried to do some adb but keeps saying no device.

Try fastboot devices, adb only works when phone on and USB debugging enabled and in recovery sometimes. If it shows your device then maybe try fastboot reboot recovery or something.
My first One S was completely dead on arrival, no sign of life after charging it for 24 hrs straight with original charger (tested charger OK) and holding PWR for 10, 30 seconds and longer. Got a new one no questions asked. Not that this is necessarily the same problem you're having since yours have been running but then again I'd guess they at least test all phones so they start at factory...

Help please

My evita went really hot .. it was in my pocket.. i dont know how!
It switched off.
now when i turn it in., i get the starting htc logo and it switched off afrom there again.
My pc gives me a notification when i connect it.. but adb dosent show any devices..
PLEASE HELP!!
Plug it into the wall charger (not connected to computer by USB) and let it charge for several hours (overnight if you can). Then try it, and see if there is any improvement.
Any charge light come on, when you connect the charger?
There have been some cases of spontaneous battery level drop, and the phone powering off. The power has to go somewhere, so heat is not a surprising result.
It can also be you have a battery or other power fault of some sort. So I would take some caution, and monitor to some degree while charging, just in case of a short circuit, fire hazard, etc.

Hmm, that is a bit worrisome. I know somebody had a similar case (LED on, even when not connected), but it was solid red (not blinking). He never go it running and did a warranty exchange.
I'd try to charge for several hours, and try to power on. Also try to get into bootloader, or power on, when its still connected to charger. I know it sounds strange, but there was at least one guy a while back, that only got his device up and running again by doing the bootloader button combo while the charger was connected.

I think Uviz means to try to continue booting after getting into bootloader with the charger plugged in.
the phone switches off itself after 20-25 secs.
i managed to flash recovery again in that time.
i was able to access the recovery
but the phone switches off!!
its like.. i can do anything but i got only 25 secs!

The phone switches off while in recovery? Is the phone charged? Are you running a custom kernel?

The custom kernel would not load in recovery so it is of no consequence.
If it's shutting down while in recovery and the phone has a full or decent charge there's a good chance it's a hardware issue.
If you leave the phone in bootloader does it shut off also?
If it doesn't you can try to RUU and see if it's stable again but if you're phone decides to shut off in the middle, you'll most likely have an irrecoverable brick.

yes it shuts down in bootloader also.
Sounds like a hardware issue to me. I wouldn't try running an RUU, like Exad said it'll likely screw up and brick your phone. I think you'll need to send it for repair.

definitely a hardware issue. It's more than likely you need a new main board.

Plug it in and see if fastboot or adb recognizes it
I had thought I bricked once and turned out I still had fastboot access and managed to flash a 2.14 hboot and recovery and get my phone back .

Question battery ran out overnight now i charge it and it wont turn on.

ive tried holding the power and the power+vol down buttons for well over a minute i let it charge for over an hour but it wont turn on.
its got the latest lineage os on it with magisk.
Does it have any indicator at all of life? USB presence? Charging indicator? If not, the battery may have fallen so low that the charge circuit can't detect its presence and therefore you can't charge it. I once rescued a Nexus 4 from this state by hooking 5v directly to the battery for a few seconds until it had enough power to be detected and start charging.

First off Happy Holidays,
Second I am truly sorry for your situation.
Plug the device into a PC and try to power up?
I get that people like to install custom software but on a brand new device with vanilla Android I really don't understand why?
Why run the risk of voiding your warranty and running into a situation that you can't get out of? It is possible that the software you installed is part of the problem.
Maybe there is a way you can reinstall Google's android through a PC and see if it will boot up.
Google Pixel - Update and Software Repair
I get people don't love all of Google's services but you did buy a Pixel.
I hope the OP can figure out a way to get his device up and running again.

meaning the phone wont turn on at all. i plug it in with a known working cable in my computer and type in fastboot devices.

When you plug it up, do you get a chime on your computer?
no
Did you try a different charger?
yes
found out what was wrong. mobo died had to send in replacement close the thread.
R.I.P.
Happen to my P6P... RMA to Google.
Certainly a coincidence that the MOBO died when the battery is discharged...however, a little research will bring to light that it is NOT good to ever let a lithium battery go completely dead. YMMV
